Thanks to all those who have stopped in Waipawa over the last 6 years to find this cache.
After numerous replacements over the years from the cache being muggled, its time to archive this gun cache.

#1365. Lest we forget.
This is the first time I have stopped here, despite many trips to Hawke’s Bay over the years. A bit sad to see the slightly dilapidated state of the war memorial, with some of the names becoming illegible. As 21 July 2022 will mark the centenary of the memorial, perhaps someone in Waipawa can institute a clean up of the inscriptions.
Cache an easy find. Thanks for bringing GB Leader and I here, avoyager.

I decided to use the opportunity of having a quiet few days off work over Xmas to drive over to the Hawkes Bay in order to be a cacher in that region for the first time.
There were only a few people around today so I was able to conduct my search in relative ease. It only took a moment of hunting around before I made the find as the cache was nicely hidden away in accordance with the Hint. On opening the container, there was nothing untoward found with the log, which was signed before the whole lot was replaced back where I found it.
Thanks for setting this cache up, and I wish you a happy and prosperous 2021

Nice find here in an interesting place, thanks
It's that time of year again when we try and get out there to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and my birthday the next day. This time we matched it up with a trip to Whanganui to see our daughter and the ever changing/developing granddaughter Kaiah. After the weekend with them we headed to Hawkes Bay for a 4 day stay in Havelock North which started off with rain but fined up nicely and finished the week well. A good break from home and plenty done and seen (as usual). Not huge numbers of finds but 22 adventure labs, the 4 TMGTs in Napier, a couple more CANZ caches and a few Virtuals as well as some other treats, T F T C to all COs.

Three years ago we looked for this cache but it had gone missing. This time it was a quick find. The magnetic power was not used so found lying on "floor". Macwatt replaced as intended. Thanks for replacing this cache.
First holiday in the North Island, why not do some caching while we are at.it. first North Island find TFTC
Nice quick find. Loving the trip bk to the bay with a few of these quick finds along the way
While I like seeing objects such as this, I am not keen about searching for caches on them. One good factor here was that the is a reasonable distance away from the road. I also think the cache owner has done a good job of choosing a sensible hiding place and providing a good hint. I was also glad it wasn't a nano. TFTC, avoyager.
Found with little blue hen. We decided that travel overseas as planned this year was now a distant memory and as we hadn't been to Napier for over 10 years a short break was in order. Woodville was our stop for breakfast and coffee and a few caches locally were on our to do list. From there we selected a few caches between Woodville and Napier and managed to nab a few despite wet weather that came and went. Thanks for the opportunity to stop and cache. Tftcsl
The lockdown has lifted, but with our International wings clipped, a domestic road trip is in full swing.
Thanks for bringing us here

Checked cache and all ok. Magnet is not separated from the cache so Im not sure what cachers are describing about the cache being 1m away from the magnet.
The cache is in the same place it has always been.
The cache is in the same place it has always been.
We found the magnet on its own and the cache a metre or so away. We reattached the magnet, put the log into a ziplock bag and replaced the cache where we had found the magnet which matches the clue
Second time I've looked for this one. Granddaughter found it, but not where hint mentioned. Log signed and placed bake in a place like hint mentioned. Magnet is missing. Cheers
We stoped in town for a cuppa and took the opportunity to find this cache. It was so easy I almost missed it!? Thanks ....
With half of the family north of Napier and the other half in the Manawatu this Christmas, today we decided to meet halfway at the river near here for a sausage sizzle and to exchange gifts. The rain foiled those plans, so we ended up at the park near this cache. Once lunch was done we came for a quick wander, signed the cache and back in time for a game of bat down.
27 December 2019 12:47 PM. Trying to do a cache each place we stop with cell coverage on our backroads convertible road trip. TFTC avoyager
Tftc. Tried to find this yesterday without luck, returned on Christmas night , with the whole family, in the drizzle, and armed with the hint, et voila!
Visiting my dad’s grave in Waipawa cemetery decided to look for a cache as well
We are off the cruise ship from Australia and hired a car to get here

Sorry forgot to fill this out. I looked for it on the 13th October but could,t find it.
Searched with friends for some time and still didn’t find it. Perhaps another time.
First find of the day for our trip back to Taranaki was a little challenging at first but when I stopped and thought outside of the box found it easily thanks
Nice one! Log too wet to sign this time but really enjoyed visiting the clock tower.
My family and I went to Napier for the day which was a great opportunity to find a couple of geocaches.
We were heading back from our day in Napier and my dad stopped for coffee so I shot off to quickly find this geocache.
I read the hint, got to the GZ and began searching. With the hint there was a much smaller search area and so the geocache was found nearly instantly. TFTC!!

Find #3110. Enjoying an overnight stop in Waipawa on my way to Hastings and Napier to enjoy a long weekend doing some cycling of the trails and geocaching.
Arrived here just on sunset to camp at Rivers Edge Holiday Park, and with some light still showing, hopped on the bike for a quick reccy of the town and to find it’s one trad cache.
Today being ANZAC Day, there were wreaths and poppies at the memorial, and four flags flying under the clock tower. It looked really nice.
I’d just located the cache when a council ute arrived and a man got out to take the flags down. He wasn’t interested in what I was doing so I was able to sign the log and return the cache without bother.
But we got chatting and he told me the memorial and clock tower were recently painted which is why it is all looking so good. And the grandson of the man who built the clock still looks after it. As I was about to leave the tower bell rang out six o’clock.
Waipawa has become my new favourite rural village. I’m looking forward to trying out one of the cafes in the morning.

Nice quick find. Good spot as off to anzac service in foxton in the morning. Filled in the log and left a smile. Thanks for the cache.
Enjoying our drive north after a weekend visiting the Wairarapa. Quick stop here. All good. By chance found the foundation stone on the towns old post office which was opened by a person with the same last name as us and now we are wondering if he is in fact a relation. Will need to ask a relative with a little more knowledge. TFTC
Container is gone, paper is there would have bought a container but couldnt as we done it at night and all shops were closed.
Re-placed to some where water proof.

All good here today. signed and returned back into square hole
We are away in our campervan just cruising the manawatu to Waiarapa then on to Hawkes Bay and return. During our tour we enjoyed travelling the quiet roads away from the main state highways. we enjoyed the bike trails around the Napier to Clifton and the inland trails up to Hastings and beyond, many of these trails of course were extra special because they had geocaches placed along them. Many thanks to all those who look after the caches. We hope you enjoy the same when you come into our area.
Sorry about the cut and paste if you have more than one geocache that we had found

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!
Today we have found the cache "In the Gun (Central Hawkes Bay)".
avoyager, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

On our road trip we found ourselves passing through here. We managed to park down the road and walked up to this memorial. Cache quickly found and log signed.
We then went off and had a nice drink in a local cafe

Stopped in on our way to Hastings. Picked up UK TB and dropped off Zombie TB. Great cache, thank you!
13.15: On the way from Napier to Cape Turnaround. What a surprise to find a german gun as a monument in rural NZ. Reading the hint we were quite unsure about our chances of finding the little box. But as we arrived at GZ it turned into an easy job. With the first grab we held it in our hands.
Weather: overcast, drizzle, 20°C;
Wheelchair: on the road/sidewalk only, close enough to watch;
State: all good, replaced as found.
Thank you!
