I have the week off work so have come up to Taranaki for a couple of days or so for caching, tackling the Forgotten Highway and hopefully finally knocking off the E174 challenge that I signed some years ago.Had to look in a few spots before finally spotting it. And now my E174 challenge is complete! All good here and TFTC.Find #6591 at 21 March 2024 2:06 pm

Good sneaky spot

17-Apr-23
A fairly quick find, with the reference to the camera helping us to position ourselves correctly, as for us the cache was 14 metres northeast of the coordinates. Now for the long drive back out. TFTC

19-Mar-23
While in the Taranaki area this week, we are trying to find the last few caches we need to qualify for the 174 East challenge. After visiting the nearby Stargate cache, we decided to drive a little further to the dam. This cache was found quickly, in good condition, and hopefully without looking too suspicious to the security camera. We watched several young guys on jetskis racing each other on the lake, in what seemed to us a dangerous game, before taking the road back out. Maybe we'll return to find the other caches here sometime in the future. TFTC Phronimos.

What a cool spot!

19-Feb-22
Up in the area on my regular weekend trip to Wanganui (from Wellington), and with some time to spare today, it was time to get some caches. So I looked on the map, and saw a smallish cluster of caches out this way that appeared to have not been found for some time, and had had recent maintenance from the CO. Perfect.

I arrived at the dam location and after sorting out some of the other caches in the area I came down here for a look. No problem with the find as described. I'd hate to be standing down ere if the open the sluice gates.

I calculate 1236 days (40 months) since the last find here.

Cache was all good, log was all dry. TFTC.

Yep this one is all good.
Came out today on a glorious fine, calm, 33° day to sort out all the geocaches out here. Replaced the full log with a fresh RITR log. All good to go.

What a treck for this one but an amazing adventure. Took the kids for an adventure to somewhere none of us had ever been, Lambing season meant lots of cute lambs to see. An easy find made.

29-Dec-18
There were people camping in the car park by the entrance so we drove as far from them as we could and had a picnic of crackers and cheese while watching jetskiers do wipeouts below us.

After which I walked down to the power station for a look while the rest of them drove around looking for the amenities, meeting me afterwards.

Middle child made the find, giving her two for the day and a feeling of superirity for a while. Log sheet is full, but I managed to squeeze our name in between near the bottom.

Thanks for the cache.

07-Jul-17
I noticed a few heads in a room in the power station so I had a good look at the dam and its accessories like power station, penstocks, spillway and a raingauge that should have been emptied earlier in the morning.

Eventually all the heads moved out of sight so I was able to locate and sign off the cache.

Cheers for the cache.

Out and about on a great mid winter morning, not a breath of wind and the sun is shining, so lets go geocaching! A nice long drive in here, been meaning to get out here for years. Got to GZ and noted the camera, then searched round as my GPSr had me aways from where I found the cache. Signed the log and left as found. Thanks for brining me to this great spot Phronimos.

Out and about today with Scoria and Kbutterflynz , with the plan of finding the caches at Rotokare Scenic Reserve (Patea Dam) plus finding a few caches along the way.

The great thing about geocaching is that you find these great parks and reverse that you never new existed

20-Feb-16
Was down in Wellington for a few days, and decided that I'd make an extra long weekend of it and transfer a rental car back to Auckland and cache along the way. Unfortunately for the rental agency that ment nearly tripling the km's they thought I'd put on it!Smile

With the rental car company only giving me 48 hours to get the car to Auckland a little bit of planing was needed to maximise what I wanted to accomplish, and with only a few DNF's it turned out to be a very successful trip. So a big thanks to everyone who had placed caches along the way, and for showing me some great sight's along the way.

Day 2: Wanganui to Hawera and home via the Forgotten Highway.

Wow what a neat place. Had the area to myself so I could hunt for the cache without any hassles. This one took a lot longer than it should have. I think all the metal around here was playing with the GPS. Thanks for bringing me here.

13-Feb-16
Awesome day out at the lake and made more exciting by looking for this, great fun running down the road to try find it first and picking which side it will be on! Thanks!

16-Jan-16
TFTC nice little walk while staying at the dam a few nights.

15-Jan-16
Got an odd day out checking council roads and of course doing a few caches at the same time. Last time I was in this area was after the June floods and we were flown in and out by helicopter, this time it's a bit longer drive. Did not do any of the walk caches due to time constraints, but had to check this one out after the dumping they released on the lower valley to save pressure on the dam. All in good order the carvings are all still there, did not remember the camera so there is a film of me sneaking around.... Cache is good order nice and dry. This one is a wrap. Mission accomplished TFTC! Blenheim Bear
