We came to Canberra for the Geobash Event and couldn't resist booking some of the great tours on offer. Today, the science nerd of the team took part in the very interesting Deep Space Tour. After the tour of the complex, a few caches had to be found. The first on the list was the Spindoc Bob Tribute Cache. Unfortunately, we never met Darren in person, but we happily supported a fundraiser in his honour by purchasing a Spindoc Bob Geocoin. Today, this coin just had to come along to visit the facility and the cache. Thanks to The S's for placing this tribute cache!
Geobash Easter Mega - Day #5 (Easter Monday 1/4)For day five of my trip, I decided on power trailing my way to and from my third and final (pre-booked) tour at the Deep Space Tracking Station. This makes my four tours total. The power was a mixture of two joined into one. The two main PTs were, Beautiful View PT and the Drive Trip PT. There were also a couple of others along the way which needed to be added to the mix to break it up a little. It was great fun but very hard going as not all of them were at GZ given on the cache page or were in prickly bushes. Many battle scars were earned but it certainly was fun though. Once at the Deep Space Tracking Station it was a great tour. I learnt lots and got to the radio telescopes up close. I also got to find the caches around the area before heading off. After leaving, I power tailed my way back via the other way to get back to Canberra and then had a very late lunch. After that, I headed off to the CITO to finish the day off. TB visit. If the cache wasnt signed as JohnoMawbs, it was signed as JM or as the tour group name. A big thanks to the CO for adding this cache to game for the Geocaching community to enjoy. TFTEs & TFTCs After the tour, a group of us decided on heading up the hill to find this one. We managed to find a way that didn't make us walk through trees and bushes. Once at GZ a quick find was had. It is always nice to find a memorial cache. I never knew spindocbob but I know others definitely did. Thanks for placing this tribute cache for one of Australia's Pioneer Geocacher's. FP given.
Found with small group after attending the Deep Space Station Guided Tour. The tour was a highlight of the Canberra Geobash Mega but could not miss this tribute cache. Thanks The_S for maintaining

Found with ReverseG, Alucard_Lacroix and Cheese_Pizza13. Beautiful walk and nicely hidden.
1st finder for the year a lovely tribute and an honour to randomly mark this cache as my official unofficial 7000 cache find what an epic journey it's been.. looking forward to today's walk... onwards and upwards..and downwards and sideways and ....
This was my final cache of the day. As a relative newcomer to the world of geocaching, I never had the fortune to meet SDB. I bet he has set up some absolute doozy geocaches on the other side. RIP and thanks for all the work you did to build up the geocaching community in Canberra!

Wonderful memorial for a fellow cacher.
We are new to the community but we paid our respects and heard wonderful stories about him before.
This cache is adorable and well tucked away
Fav point for me

What a beautiful cache and tribute to a fantastic individual. Found this today with Baristayan and Contesta (signed BR3) and took a few moments to honour Darren and his legacy.
Myself and Baristayan are still fairly new to the game but have already met many a local cacher who knew Darren well and who have so many incredible things to say about him.
It’s thanks to pioneers like him that geocaching continues to be such a wonderful pursuit in Canberra. Thanks for the privilege of finding this one ??

Making the most of the opportunity to duck out for a few hours of caching fun. Seeking out the occasional challenge or two, or trying to mop up as many solves as I can to keep that long list under control. Seems to increase faster than it decreases

Good to finally go out here and find this cache. In the early days of caching here in the ACT, I went with Darren on several High Country caching trips and several other trips around the ACT with him and some of the early ACT cachers. Thanks Darren for your efforts and commitments to this new sport back in the early days. So sad to see him go, attended his funeral in Sydney. It was packed.
PS - The name "Spindoc Bob" comes from the fact he worked here at Tidbinbilla and was involved with maintenance? and other things that ensured the dishes rotated as they should, Hence, Spin Doctor Bob stuck.

A beautiful location and a poignant tribute to somebody who obviously has made a mark on many people’s lives and on science here in this area. We are also grateful for the Geocaching contribution.
A lovely hide here, and great to see this old logbook.
Thanks Ro5ella and The S’s

Found with pantspeople after tackling some of the UFO caches nearby. Quick find, nicely sized and in a beautiful location. I really wanted to make sure I visited this tribute cache to Darren. I met him a couple of times early into my caching career, notably at the ACT Geocaching 10th birthday and ACT Cache of the Year event at El Dorado's (now closed) in Dickson. He and his involvement with Geo-Talk was part of what first made geocaching so engaging and exciting for me as a child. Rest in peace, Darren. Thank you to the CO for a lovely tribute cache.
Nice big cache and a fitting tribute. All good with the cache and its contents. Signed this one as pantspeople rather than FAI (February Alien Invasion), with ToyHunters in company, given the other elements of our traipsing team had been here before.
Took CSIRO lanyard, left an antique looking can opener. Hopefully someone enjoys that and can make good use of it. A great container in an excellent location, with great views. Thanks Ro5ella for the superb hide.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Chasing a few UFO's and stopped by. Great tribute location to a great bloke. Happy to sign. One of my spindoc coins went missing shortly after released. Hope it found a good home. Thanks Darren.
Found in a group as a member of the December Alien Invasion.
Thanks Tealby for this tribute cache. I did not meet spindoc, but I do enjoy his caches.

Out caching with fitzy_1965, albida33, Tankengine, FurfacesLL, Kittykatch, Joolay, Smittengranny, Nibletricecakes, GLISS!, Flintstones, Sebass19, MightyMinions and myself as part of December Alien Invasion (DAI).
All caches found quickly and easily (can't say the same about the journey getting to some but we got there in the end). I may have ended up with heat stroke.....
A quick detour up to this one for the people who hadn't already found it.

Great to be back out on the UFO trail. A hot walk with a lot of bush bashing but thankfully we found everything we were after. As always it is the awesome company that makes the day a huge thanks to MinnieK, Fitzy_1965, Smittengranny, Kittykatch, Joolay, Mightyminions, Flintstones, Tankengine, Sebass, FurfaceLL, Albida & Gliss! for all the fun. Signed today as DAI (December Alien Invasion). Thanks for the cache.
I travelled down from the Central Coast to join a great group of cachers to tackle some of the UFO series and a few others today. The weather was perfect and we had a brilliant day . This is a fitting tribute cache . signed as DAI... Thanks for the cache tnln replaced as found sl
Another trip to the ranges with fitzy_1965, minniek, albida33, Tankengine, Kittykatch, Joolay, Smittengranny, Nibletricecakes, GLISS!, Flintstones, Sebass19 and MightyMinions to tackle some more of the UFO series, and others that were nearby. We kicked off around 9am and finished off around 3pm. The weather was perfect and all logs were signed as DAI, or December Alien Invasion.
Thanks to the CO's for the placements, and thanks to the group for a great day, looking forward to the next in this series.

Sunday was a long planned revisit to the western side of the UFO series in the Bullen range. The group formed up in the car park of the Tracking station at 9am. We were quite a party, if not quite as many as last time. MinnieK, Fitzy_1965, Smitten Granny, Kitty Katch, Joolay, Mighty Minions, Flint stones, Tankengine, Sebass, FurfaceLL, Nibletricecakes & Gliss! We followed the main track up to the ridge line, with a few detours for some trads and passing the virtual that was actually places when we were here last time. In the main the terrain was not as dramatically up and down along the cross country track we had chosen. The caches were found without any extreme difficulty, just the need to look carefully after the amount of time that has passed since previous finds. We trekked back along a fence, but still ended up well up the ridge before heading back to the car park to clean up some old caches that some had already done. I cannot say much about the details of the puzzles today, the work for these was mostly put in a long time ago, and I needed a lot of help. All in all it was a fun day and there are still many caches to get to on s few future visits.
This was sperate from the ufo puzzles and is quite a reminder of who spindoc was and what can happen in our lives. RIP Darren

Another one down as DAI (December Alien Invasion) attacked more of the UFO Series. A pity I didn't have a spaceship to whizz me around from cache to cache.
Thanks for the Series DSD.

A long planned midweek trip to Canberra with the Rats, Hoojar and Steeba. Main goal finishing the UFO series. We did very well, but had to leave a few as crossing the river was absolutely impossible at the moment, the water looks spectacular. Parked at deep space and the weather gods made for perfect caching. Overnight at Woods reserve and a long drive home next evening, but very satisfied. Found all caches well, containers were ok, some logbooks were wet.

A plan was hatched, the cars were packed, and we were off for a bit of a jaunt around the Bullen Range Nature Reserve chasing UFOs, or caches? It was one of them! Without Mulder and Scully, I was instead accompanied by The Rats, Steeba and Wilbert67.
The usual banter ensued as we walked many, many (many!) kilometres, mostly off track, mostly along ridgelines, chasing those smiles. Why would you put a cache there, well, just because... That seemed to be the theme of most of the trip.
We saw more kangaroos than you can poke a stick at (if you are interested in poking sticks at kangaroos), a plethora of local birdlife (cockatoos, galahs, choughs, a wedge-tailed eagle, a number of different parrots to name but a few), a red-bellied black snake, a few wild pigs (and a lot of evidence of their destruction), and a few deer. There was a lot of evidence of a lot of water (mud, puddles), and there were a lot of caches that were sadly quite damp... but we persevered!
Up hill, down hill, through scrub, across rocks. The wild flowers were out, and still quite magnificent. Our legs felt the kilometres, but the comradery kept us going.
A most excellent adventure, and far better than being in my office. Thanks to the cache hiders, and my walking companions.
Cheers

What a great way to spend a couple of days in the bush. I teamed up with my fellow Gong Gangsters with a focus on finding the UFO series of caches in the Bullen Range. Recent rains had thankfully eased enough to allow water levels to drop at Point Hut crossing, but there was no way we’d be crossing the river on foot further downstream.
Our adventure of countless km’s of off-track walking felt like an old fashion Rogaine as we trekked through the bush from cache to cache. The area was teaming with wildlife with hundreds of Kangaroos, a few deer, a couple of pigs, some not so nice reptiles and an abundance of birds. The raging river, rolling plains, to mountainous gullies, spurs and ridgeline made for a spectacular vista.
We found all but 1 of our intended caches. Lots of the containers had water in the them but double bagging had saved those logs while others need some attention. Thanks for placing this great D/T series.
It was nice to take a moment to reflect on a good friend. RIP Darren.

Well this series (and other nearby caches) were certainly a grand adventure. Sorting out all the final co-ordinates was just the start of things- which took some time in itself.
Then a trip was planned for a midweek assault on Canberra- myself, The Rats, Hoojar and Wilbert67.
Over many hours we went up hill, down dale and across the range finding the finals- without any particular problems. At least 3 pigs, one snake, half a dozen deer, many birds and a thousand kangaroos were spotted on our travels.
Plenty of off track walking too with some 10s of kilometres traversed before all was said and done.
In parts head high scrub, other parts on the fire trail, then the swampy bits, the open plains- some great variety.
Some caches were new containers, plenty waterlogged, some bisons in trees, some half buried, but on the whole close to where GZ had us for each one.
Thanks for placing all the hides and to our team for the great company. TFTC!
Darren was a great bloke so pleased we could find this one today.

The fortieth cache of the day in Bullen Range Nature Reserve with purplepeopleater, Bella at Wagga and Crash2079.
This was the reason I came back from the car, to find this cache and to honour the man who did so much to improve geocaching in the ACT and NSW.
Vale, Darren Osborne! You are missed!!!

#368 Heading up towards the Bullen Beautification CITO today with Turtle, we may have been taking the long way, but it was nice to come by this cache. I haven't been caching for long enough to have met Spindoc Bob, but I have heard good things, may he rest in peace. Thanks for putting out this cache The S's
#2253 Heading up to the Bullen CITO, apparently the long way as we found out later, DeadThief and myself ducked off the track to collect this wonderful tribute cache. Vale Spindoc Bob, a cacher I unfortunately never had the honour to meet but certainly seems well respected. Thanks The S’s for the cache.
Nice to get this Spindoc tribute cache today.
A visit to Tidbibbilla and surrounds. Fabulous day. Signed as Capital Crunchers.

Out on an early stroll with Barb2e, Kittykatch, Joolay and a muggle friend, before the day heats up.
We did this as last cache for the day. I can't recall if I have met Bob or not. However I have heard about him over the years and can remember geocaching friends being devastated when he died.

The third of my walks in the Tidbinbilla regions thismorning.
This was the first cache after leaving the car next to the gate and jumping over the fence. A short, easy walk over to GZ where I made a straightforward find of the beautiful tribute cache.
Thanks, The S's.

This was a very wonderful cache to find and a great tribute to an amazing member of the community. Thank you very much for the cache!
Jenny led the Wednesday bushwalk on the Bullen Range from Tidbinbilla space tracking station today which provided the opportunity to seek out a few geocaches at the end of the walk. This cache was a straightforward find, being in an obvious spot on the coordinates. I didn’t know Spindoc Bob, but this is a great celebration of his contribution to geocaching. Thank you to The S’s for installing and maintaining this cache.
Out with PPE as part of GOM's Grumpy ACT Day 3 and the second day in UFO land. Heading to UFO land over the hill and this was on the way out. Pity the centre is currently closed to visitors as it would be a fascinating tour. A quick find at the end of a big day covering around 30km. No problems with the find.
I meant Darren in Sydney early on in my geocaching days and he gave us the idea for old school caches among other things. Sadly missed and we are all poorer for it.
We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Andrewbt and I tackled the last of the UFO series today. We opted for bikes with the proper shoes to go off track and find the caches. Overall a very good choice for this part of the series, although you better be fit as andrewbt or have an electric bike like me to cope with the number of large ups and downs. Nevertheless by the end of it we were both having cramps coming on. A very enjoyable and rewarding day with all the finds, no DNFs and and a number of other non UFO series caches found along the way. A sunny winter day is a good choice for this long trip, 20km and 1200 altitute gain, it took us about 7 hours. Looking at these numbers, no wonder we were completely buggered at the end of this.
Quick find, all in good order.Thank you for telling the story and placing this cache!

40 Found out of 40 with Flinstones on an overly ambitious Day through the Bullen Ranges
Many on our target were the UFO series, but we picked up some at the start, and at the end, of that run.
Many a few interesting D/T ratings were noted, and we discussed them relative to each other.
A fair while spent out here today, my legs aren't what they used to (rather, should be), so rolling around on the MTB again was great fun, but really drove the point home that I should ride it a bit more.
All in all, a solid day out, and hopefully another run out here, and I will have the UFO series completed - the other Trads we picked up here were a great diversion too.

Nice walk on the trails today with no one around .
Got to know Darren at the first Wagga Mega and then we did an interview for the upcoming Albury Mega . Was a true gentleman.

Day eight in Queanbeyan. BettyBoo3747 and I decided to go visit the Tidbinbilla Deep Space Complex. Strangely enough, we found a few cache before we got there, while we were there, and after we left. We followed the Tourist Drive No.5.
A great spot for a tribute to a great guy.
Nice to read all the comment in the log book.
Can't believe it was four years ago!
Thanks, Robmc.

#15617. Day 8 of our 2 weeks holiday in the ACT and surrounds. We are staying at Carwoola.
Robmc was keen to visit The Tidbinbilla Deep Space Centre today and what a glorious day it was to be out in this lovely Autumn-coloured countryside. The poplars are so golden at present and such a lovely feature of the landscape. A bit of a different day to yesterday - clear blue skies and a mild temperature. It was certainly the most scenic day we have had so far. Total smilies for the day - 36.
After a long time admiring the largest telescope sweeping the skies as we lunched we left the centre and made our way to this cache. I never met and have never listened to the spindoctors podcasts but this seems an appropriate place for his tribute cache. I remember when he passed away and find it hard to believe it was over 4 years ago.
I picked up a 'scargoes pathtag today and left one of my Avatar Pathtags and 2 TBs to continue their travels from here.
Thanks The S's

We'd listen to "Spindoc Bob" a lot in our early days (started in 2004 ????) and especially when his show was part of SA Geocaches! "(XoE) Geotalk, Walk and Listen" https://coord.info/GC1CM5Z and then "(XoE) Geotalk - Australia United" https://coord.info/GC1CR0N ??
We didn't meet Darren personally and miss his podcast, RIP and our thoughts to his family.

After a morning event in Canberra, we set off on a lovely tourist drive out to the mountains. This was a very special cache for us as we would listen to Darren's podcasts when we first started caching, and he totally inspired us to get out there and explore the world via caching. Chunk hasn't been all that well lately but he wasn't going to miss getting to this cache. We sat on a nearby log with logbook in hand, and reminisced about Darren's influence on caching. We are sure he was there with us.TFTC The Ss.

A day out down Canberra way today to pick up some caches, this was in the to do list. Cache and contents are in good condition, lots of wild life about this morning. TFTC

So appropriate this cache was cached today and at this Astro location.
KI had spoken to him a fair bit on the phone and over email. I was one of his partners and put out a couple of XoE caches in that series. He really did bring the caching community together.
I recall featuring on one of his videos. See the story by Spindoc (youtube link) here. He just did it so well....

Joining forces with endeavour3 made this cache find a lot of fun. The cache was cached and we move on with a big smile!
Thanks to The S's and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

Watawieh from Norfolk Island South Pacific. As young school boy I had visited Honeysuckle Creek for a Year 6 school tour in 1971. Since then I have wanted to visit Canberra Deep Space Facility. Today I had great day exploring the visitor centre, pretending to be an Astronaut and finding caches. Thanks for such a great tribute cache

One of the finds made on the post event walk... in the dark... with two Darth Vaders, complete with light sabres. I had done half of these before but I had missed this one. Very sad to hear the details of Spindoctor Bob, may his caches live on!
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache

Found today with a group that had attended the nearby evening event. We made our way up to this cache - about 11 of us to sign the logs plus some smaller kids. I never met Spindoc Bob but did listen to a couple of his last podcasts and was saddened when I heard about his illness and eventual death. I think he would have enjoyed seeing us pick up the cache tonight, a mixed group of cachers coming together in the dark, with two dressed as Darth Vader, having fun and joking around with the kids. Froggycacher had one of the tribute coins, which he passed around and we talked about Darren and his contribution to Canberra caching. RIP Spindoc

During the Revenge of the Sixth event we wandered around the area picking up a few other caches.
These were all rather easy finds, being in a group. Especially when some of the group had found them before...
I think this was the cache where I dropped a travel bug, which has been "grabbed" off me in the meantime while I've been slack on my logging.
Sorry about the lateness of my log, I have been a bit slack.
Edit: fixing the date.

After parking at the Space centre around 12:45pm I was off on foot to come and do some of the UFO series. This cache was only placed here not long after my last visit to the space centre so hadn't found it when I last went walking out the back here.
I didn't meet Spindoc Bob but I have read about him and even watched the Youtube video you linked which was very sad but interesting.
I have found a few of his caches I believe over the past few years, always very good caches in great locations by memory!
Thanks for this amazing tribute cache, the container was a pleasure to find and the logs inside were good to read, I love caches where people decide to write more than just their name and date.

After a day doing stuff for one of my other crazy Hobbies ("white glove" duty at the quilt display, which had some of my quilts in, at the Craft show) I then excused myself from the last part of the packing up, and left a few minutes later than intended, and came out here for the Revenge of the 6th event ... the cache I came out early for was a nice quick find, so I got to eat my "dinner" (2 mandarins, a banana, about 1/4 of a packet of chips and a small bit of chocolate - lol) while I waited for the others to start arriving ...
I then donned my weird attempt at a costume, and a group of us wandered over to grab the multi, and chatted a bit, then the (even Bigger by then) group went and got the mystery (the cache that I had solved a couple days before, and come early for ... and did some more chatting/etc. while a few late arrivals joined us ... then off we - an odd looking group that included 2 Darth Vaders - went for the planned after the event walk in the dark, to find 4 of the 5 traditionals ... then we did the 5th one as a drive-by before heading back to town ... and somehow, despite being the last to leave, just behind a few other cars - I ended up having to stop not once, but twice - for wombats in the middle of the road ... and the first one (just after turning out of Discovery drive) was a huge wombat, and a very sudden stop ... I ended up skidding to a halt about 1m from said wombat! - lol
TFTC - this was the first one of the 4 we came walking for ... not sure that I ever met Spindoc Bob ... but after watching the video, I wish I had ... was also nice that someone brought their Spindoc Bob coin to visit

In 2015 I attended my first geocaching event, the Geocaching NSW AGM. I had no idea what events were about - up until that point geocaching was a purely solo endeavour for us - but I was in the area and I had nothing to lose.
The Association has geocoins available for purchase, and one of them was a tribute coin to Spindoc Bob. I had no idea who he was, but I heard he's battled and succumbed to brain cancer. At the time a friend of ours had brain cancer, and we had embarked on fund raising ourselves; the coin was not only beautiful, but also poignant. I had to have one.
Over time I read about Spindoc Bob, but I'd not visited any of his caches. I knew of this cache in particular as being special, as it represented the nexus of all the things he was. Tonight I was able to visit with the crew from the Revenge of the Sixth event, coin in hand.
Bob came home to rest, albeit briefly, before moving on to yet another cache.

This was one of the cache find of the night. The cache was, found as part of the event on 6th may 2018. Thanks for the cache. It was fun finding it in the dark.
Found on the 'Revenge of the Sith (Sixth)' evening event. A good bunch having a bit of fun.....as it should be. A night out with the boys too, The Matetrix, geokids 2 and 3 tagging along. Do. Or do not. There is no try. TNLNSL TFTC
Found 19:11 6/5/18 at the revenge of the sixth event. Unfortunately I never got to meet Spindoc Bob. Thank you The S's for the cache and bringing me to this location.

After visiting the Deep Space Centre, I found a few other nearby caches. A quick find here. A fitting tribute. I met Spindoc Bob, during the NZ 2012 Mega, on the hills above Dunedin. After that I listened to his podcasts. Then in early 2015 I moved to anberra and have found many of his caches here. I appreciate his contribution to geocaching. TFTC.

It has been a long time since we have been out this way, and several caches have sprung up in the vicinity. This was an easy find on a lovely autumn day, in a really lovely location entirely fitting for Spindoc Bob. We remember watching him go through the illness at such a young age - very sad. Thanks The S's.
Sunday 22 October 2017 - an overcast pleasant Spring afternoon in the low twenties finding 7 from 7 caches after a bike ride and a 3.5km walk over a couple of hours. Loved seeing the rain clouds approaching from the Brindabellas and enjoyed the misty rain over the beautiful green hills.
Was hoping to drop off the Jupiter trackable as the container is large enough however it is not frequently visited - still looking to move it on within Canberra.
Quick and easy find in this beautiful peaceful location and good views over the station/dishes. We had lunch in this spot and reflected on this memorial and people like this who provide wonderful cache experiences for the rest of us in Canberra. Worth a favourite point. Thx p2p. TFTC The S's.

Earlier this year I tackled my first mystery cache, it was called Stargazer's Delight. This was the first I had heard of Spindoc Bob but a little research lead me to begin to understand his standing within the Geocaching community and introduced me to a little of his work.
Brought the family out to the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex today and after a great time in the visitor's centre, it was time to tackle this cache. The fence had me a little worried, but years of field work helped me to find a spot to get over it quickly. Made my way up to the cache, a lovely memorial in a lovely spot. SL, TFTC.

Found with Aquilus1, dty73 and addictedgamer when we came out to see the space centre. Great cache.
After a bit of a climb over the gate a nice walk along the track. Have often heard of SpinDoc Bob and the fact he is still know within the community, even by us that are new, speaks volumes of the influence he had here, by all accounts a highly held person and a well placed cache as a tribute. Thanks for the cache The S's and for sharing this memory.
Out with Aquilus1, Shadowstorm1, AddictedGamer and the Youngest Geokid. A straightforward find after a short walk from the road along the fire trail. It is a little sad when we see cacher's names in logs and mentioned by others and then find something like this. I forget we are all human sometimes. TFTC the S's!!!
Found with Dty73 , Aquilus1 we had found this in a couple of seconds read dty73's log for more TFTC!!!
A nice memorial to Bob after returning from a day's caching with Speedymotors in Tidbinbilla. A quick find as the cache was uncovered so, after signing the log, we covered the container a little better. TFTC The S's
Lovely spot with views of the dishes. Found with Binliner on lovely caching outing. TFTC
A great and very appropriate cache in a nice location. I used to listen to the podcast and met Darren at an event once. Well done.
Cache found all OK. Thanks,

#2156 This was my 5th from 11 finds today on this sunny winters day. I entered the track some 100m on the right before the carpark then kind of followed the track. Quick find. Great memorable cache. TFBMH The S's.
Caching on queens birthday around the most visited tourist attraction in Canberra. Great cache and from the description of cache Darren would be very glad to know a cache was placed in his honour. Tftc
my gps wanted me to go 80m beyond a fence for this cache so not sure if the fence boundaries have changed or my gps was playing up, no phone back up as per signage so will just have to try again next time I'm here.
We found this cache today and read the tributes written in his honour. It was great to see such a wonderful memorial to someone who was obviously respected and loved very much. We also added our name to the log before placing all back where it came from. Thank you to The S's for placing this cache
and keeping his memory alive and teaching other cachers about his contribution to the community in so many ways.

My last find for the day.....and just a day before Darren's Birth date.......
I had meet Darren a few times over the years. He arranged a couple ABC radio interviews for me to participate in in relation to all things geocaching in the ACT. He had moved to Sydney and wanted someone else to 'have a go'. Being the pro that he was, he contacted me after the first one to say he had listen to the interview and that all was good with it. He obviously didn't listen that closely!!!!
In April 2011, Darren made the trip down from Sydney for the ACT Geocaching Birthday and Awards event, (he did still care about the ACT caching scene, even though he was now in Sydney) and the next day he and I hiked up to the first ACT Geocache on Mt Painter where we recorded a session for his famous Geotalk Podcast. An experience with him I remember well to this day.
I only knew him through caching, but that was enough to see how he thought about the things he enjoyed doing. To me, and through this, you could see the sought of person he was......
Thanks S's for the cache, the chance to remember a fellow cacher.....and a good guy.

found with HypoHippo on an early morning jaunt to Tidbinbilla. Second cache of the morning and one we really were keen to collect after finding Long Distance Call just down the road. Even though we were here before 9am, it was still quite warm, and the grass seeds did not please HH. But cache found quickly - nice to see a godo sized container and log book in which we made our marks. Thanks The S's for this special memorial cache and helping us to remember SpindocBob.
Found with Angel this morning. Quick find once at GZ - but grass seeds are not my favourite sort of decoration! nice to remember someone who gave so much to geocaching in Australia, thanks The S's.
A Canberra Bushwalking Club trip from the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station over the Bullen Range to the Murrumbidgee River. An excellent razor spur down to the river. 30ºC. Returned along the range in thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail. A varied day. Trip report at http://www.johnevans.id.au/wp/10-november-2015-bullen-range/ . TFTC.

Well after yesterday's washout where I noticed I could not see any of the caches I'd loaded into my Garmin, I returned to claim what I could not yesterday. It was not as nice a day today, but it was still spring-like & pleasant to be out.
A nice big cache with some odd contents. I never met Spindoc Bob as I've only been caching just over a year, but clearly he was an influential figure in Canberra caching community.
Thanks for the cache The S's

Off for a walk in the Bullen Ranges today. I parked in the Deep Space Centre carpark and picked up a few nearby caches before the walk proper.
I am new to geocaching and did not know of Darren. I like caches that take me somewhere different or teach me something - so appreciated this and it felt like an honour to be visiting it. I left a Dora the Explorer, which seemed kind of appropriate. TFTC
