#46 A little bit of nostalgia being in this part of the world with my grandfather being a member of the Lakey family from Shelbourne of which this road is named after. Pretty cool to walk in the footsteps of my ancestors whilst on this adventure. A great hide with the GPS signal sending us in all directions. Put the coordinates into Google Maps and it took us directly there. My 12 year old eventually picked up the well camouflaged hide. TFTC
An unusual situation for us instead of being in lovely warm Queensland we are hiding around cold old Victoria. Medical reasons and caravan repairs have us staying here and we will be looking forward to finding as many caches as possible while we are here. SL TFTC
Out and about in the Maldon area again and it was time to finish this series. Next stop along the way and again the cache was found without issue and the log signed. Good day to be our driving these roads.
Thanks again Team Ninja....cache all good.

On my way from Laanecoorie Res (10km training paddle) to Kangaroo Flat to meet a friend for coffee. Couldn't resist squeezing a few more of this series in.
This is an area I've never been into previously. I'm going backwards on the series today, but this is my last one today! Coffee & lunch are calling........ This took a wee bit of scavenging. Mainly because my GPS was a fair bit out. A very clever hide & camo.
Many thanks

After spending the long weekend on the banks of the Loddon River it was time to head home again. On the way to join the Calder I spotted this cache and after a short search the sneaky hide was discovered.
Thanks AussieTrainDriver for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

The evening light across the pastures is beautiful at the moment, thanks for getting me here
When I read the hint, I was looking for a brown fake . After looking around I managed to think of something more obvious. Tftc.
We headed out for a day trip and decided this area was a great quiet location.
The winter day we got was just amazing, sunny and a delight to be geocaching in.
Thank you for placing this geocache for us to find.

Caching in the area we were able to finish off the SL series after running out of time on our last visit here. Starting backwards we worked our way down to Floodway, enjoying the remnants of the old abandoned railway that each cache had to show us.
Found the well crafted hide sitting nicely waiting patiently for the next cacher.
Thanks AussieTrainDriver for highlighting this historic railway line.

The day dawned a bit cooler today in Saint Arnaud.
We started out doing some of the StArs geo art, but then headed of to Bendigo for a baby sitting day tomorrow.
On the way we deviated to get Forte's Ground, and then some very enjoyable caches nearer Bendigo,

Heading south for the St. Arnaud event next month after leaving QOGM in Blackall. Day 60 of our trip. Caching along the way. A total of 5 caches for the day and 1696 for the trip. TFTC
This cache was a tough stone to crack with beautiful views and friendly locals asking if I needed help whilst pulled over on the side of the road. Thanks!
Maryborough to Maldon staying at Butts Reserve
After setting up camp we decided to begin the SL trail starting from the end.
We glimpsed many sections of the abandoned railway line. Enjoyed our day travelling the country side.

Thankyou for the fun find, husband is a historical railway guy so he has been enjoying the view as well.
A nice quick and easy find on a beautiful afternoon in the country.
Had a stop for afternoon tea at the site.

On a well earned break in Castlemaine and I’m spending the time just touring the whole area, enjoying the sites and picking up caches as I go.
Loved the camo on this one, the country is pretty dry up around here.
Thanks Team_Ninja TFTC TFTS.

TFTC and for sharing the history of this particular Rail Line. Er had completed some of the SL series caches from the Maldon end a week or so ago. Being a nice day for a drive we decide to complete the series , starting form this end . We could then circle from Maryborough to Maldon and then back to Maryborough without having to do any back tracking.=For the most part we found the caches without too much drama. One of the multis gave us a bit of trouble, more of that in the log for that particular cache. A great series and worthy of a favorite from us.
Another great cache. You don't realise how quickly nature reclaims construction we have done in the past
Another quick find here. Re the cache container, we have seen a few of these in our travels and yours are holding up pretty good. But the shape is too manufacturered. The shape needs to be more irregular and maybe scatter some leaves on it during the setting process.

Over Lannecoorie way today and I decided on a few caches on the way home. What a great little series. Beautiful country roads, colour birds everywhere and a bright blue sky. Many thanks for the caches
I thought I'd make the most of my one day off and this beautiful weather to go out and find the SL Series, starting from The End and working my way back. I loved the history and the amount of work gone into creating this series.
Found at 11.30am. Great views and sneaky cache! Thank you for the cache Team Ninja

Suscoe headed north very early this morning for a day of caching around the Maldon and Newstead area.
We left home in steady drizzle but by the time we crossed the divide the sky eased up a bit. For the remainder of the day we had sunny skies with the occasional cloud and a generous southerly wind blowing which kept temperatures in the high teens and low twenties.
The country is pretty dry around here but we were pleased to report that grass seeds are not as bad here compared to the North East and even Castlemaine.
We enjoyed this Maldon - Shelbourne railway trail and had a terrific morning making our way from The End to The Beginning.
A big thank you to Team Ninja for a very well researched set of Cache notes and for sharing this knowledge with us.
We saw a pretty big mob of small ponies nearby, an unusual sight for us.
All good at GZ.

Southern Cross Caching
A 4 day trip from Adelaide to Everton, Beechworth and surrounds.
8 of South Australia's finest caching teams came across the border Freddo, Team Astro, The White Dog Gang, Four Fun, Unicycle, Southern Cross Caching, Shonkloic, and Team Waldron hit the bike trails and country back roads.
It wasn't nice the the mozzies were sent to defend the ceches against us but we persisted.
On the way home we visited Bendigo, St Arnaud and many towns in between.
Many thanks to all the cache owners who put out caches for us to find.
A great time was had and we left enough to make another trip worthwhile.

Came along and found this with SAWSTUFF - Astro, Waldron, SxC, White Dog Gang, Uni, Four Fun and Freddo. Thanks Team Ninja
Found on an awesome trip with the SAW STUFF boys (Shonky, Astro[me], Waldron, Southern Cross, Whitedog, Unicycle, Freddo & Four-Fun). The trip had it all including this awesome cache. There were pots and schooners (no pints) , mazzive mozzies the size of small elephants we hitched rides on , realistic lizards, real live [xx(] kangaroos that got too close and uphills. Then there were bikes and pumps. There was sweat and dust but no tears. My thanks to the group and the coordination that enabled an amazing fun filled few days that will go down in caching-lore. [^]
Thanks to Team_Ninja and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!
We CAME. We CACHED. We SAW STUFF. Eight South Australian caching teams on the prowl in Lake Victoria. We were attacked by vampire mosquitoes. We were attacked by rogue magpies. We were attacked by brown snakes. We were attacked by running kangaroos. We were attacked by publicans and cooks. In the end we got the message and went home, but not before finding lots of hidden cachey things using billions of dollars of satellites and cheap hand-held devices.

Bendigo Cup Day and the Sisterhood of the Cargo Pants were off on a day out. We had lots of fun except for the damn mosquitoes everywhere.
Because we all live in Bendigo we started from The End and worked our way towards Maldon. I managed to increase the difficulty on this one by taking a tumble and spraining my ankle.

Find #1078 for me. I recognized the camo straight away as I'd found a similar one before. Nice hide, and thanks for the cache Team_Ninja!
A great day out caching nice and sunny and not cold for a change.
Easy find, good hide. Signed and replaced. TFTC.

Another beautiful country vista, as the rain holds off an the sun peeks out from behind a cloud. We are enjoying trying to chase to remaining visible outlines of the railway as we drive along. Thanks again for the hide.
Found with emthegem, wickedfizz and goamigo. Tftc. Cute shetland ponies nearbye. Tftc.
Journeying home from the Wedderburn Weekend, the SL series "popped" up on the Montana. I looked at the time, and decided, I should manage 5-6 on the way, so took the necessary detour, and started at "The End". Working backwards towards Maldon rather than from it, I ended up doing the whole series, rather than my initial plan of 5 or 6. Great job on the camo here, adding a fave, cause I can. Thanks to Team Ninja for a great series, full of history, lots of quiet roads, and great positioning of hides, where the car could get off the road.
My sister had to be picked up in Castlemaine so we (neisha07, chan02 & becca85) continued on to cache the looong way home. We took roads we never would have before, visited cool places and found some great caches. A great arvo. TFTC
Took the scenic route home from Castlemaine to Maryborough and grabbed most of the SL series in Maldon with a few others on our way. Found with becca865, boo09 & neisha07. Lots of fun. TFTC!
Cached the long way home from Castlemaine this arvo via Maldon. Some cool places visited. TFTC
I have an aim to hit 999 cache finds this week to make the Skipton Cave Event my 1000th.
This is easier said than done when I have found all within 40 minutes of home.
Today we needed to be in Castlemaine so figured we would take a detour home... With neisha07, chan02 & boo09 in tow, the 45 minute trip took us 4 hours...
We grabbed a few on the back road to Maldon before stopping for some afternoon tea then taking the SL trail to Laane then home.
A nice dent made in the numbers and unexplored roads discovered. TFTC

This is very rural around here! A nice hide too, easy for cachers but not for others.
Found at 4.40pm. I loved the cutting. Also loved the container. A favourite point.

I was hoping for a quick find here with the farmhouse not so far away but it took me ages as the container was covered, probably by the wind.
Anyway it is all well and safe and snug in its hide.
Thanks

Following the line from Shelbourne to Maldon - what an intriguing story, which the detailed cache notes really brought to life! In a previous life P-P worked with the "Lakey" of the said road, making the location even more significant. A favourite for location and construction - great placement.
Our thanks to Team_Ninja for bringing us to this location.

Catching up on some late, very late and extremely late logs (400 in all)
I would like to thank Team_Ninja for placing this cache. I always enjoy getting out and about to view this great country of ours and caching allows me to do that. Once at GZ, I sometimes find the cache quickly but sometimes it takes awhile to sus out the well camouflaged hide. Once found, log is signed and the cache is rehidden as found.
Once again thanks Team_Ninja.

We decided to find a few more caches with The Coffee's, maccamob and micaparamedic before heading home.
We really enjoyed this series and especially the information and photos on the cache pages as well as the hides.
The scenery was fantastic and changing but unfortunately we have lost our notes for this series and we are doing a generic log.
We do appologise for this as it was a great series but we can not remember them individually after so long.
Many thanks for the history and the hides Team_Ninja

Found by Mary & David, with Crackers, the Coffees and micaparamadic, at 1220. God to get away from the bitumen, but those poor sheep look pretty hot. Nice cache camo. Our thanks to Team_Ninja.
With a muggle mutt yipping in the background it was a little hard to stay stealthy here. After watching a few faces in the mobs we found this easily. TFTC.

Went to Maldon to the Swap Meet, have a look around the shops, went and seen the steam train leaving, then we started to head home, the long way of course, going along the SL trail grabbing caches on the way.
On the way to this one we were amazed at all the little horses in the paddocks.
Another quick find as we are now getting closer to the end.
Took figure - Left white cat.

Took a day off to wander the countryside in search of caches. Started out rainy, but then turned into a lovely day!
The was the seventh of 17 seeks for the day. What a great history lesson - throughly enjoyed this series (even if one of them was a DNF - I will be back for that one!)

Dropped by this morning to upgrade the cache container. It's the same size but is now camouflaged. First time I've made something of this type so it'll be interesting to see how it lasts 'in the wild'.
GZ is out of view of the nearby houses/farms but I did feel like I was the only vehicle to pass by. TFTC
Find # 2187 @ 1212 H
I like the previous finder have done this the wrong way but I suppose back in its hay day this rail went both ways too, alas it is still a great history trail. It was quite interesting driving the back roads watching out for the mounds in the paddocks to show as to where the next cache may be and where the old rail cut along the ground.
a well hidden container, I think it was the only one that I had to use the hint on, but I do blame my blindness to the amount of history around the area.
