Having spotted these geocaches on the map a little while ago, I decided this afternoon was a good time to come out and try and find some. I originally had plans to find caches in another location today, but with the heavy recent rain, I figured the track I would need to be on to find them would be too muddy and slippery. With these caches being hidden along a rail trail, and with a bit of sun today, I figured the trail would be in a decent enough condition to walk along. My time geocaching out here this afternoon was pretty successful. I found a total of twenty one caches, with only one DNF. A nice, simple, quick and easy find here Cache and log in good condition.TFTC
With an afternoon CITO and a dinner event around Ballarat, I headed to the BSRT series for a great day for walking. The caches were accessed on foot with some driving between roads. Interesting sign and a quick find. Many thanks to GemmaSistema for the cache.
With milder weather this week, Chook and Wozzle68 teamed up again for another walk on the BSRT. Love reading these signs on the rail trail about the stations that used to exist here. Rams it home just how extensive our rail network was back in the day (compared to the very restrictive services offered these days). TFTC GemmaSistema.
With dot 558 on a great day collecting a few smiles as we head to cobdenThanks for the trail
O. Our travel we found ourselves at Smythdale and took the opportunity to grab a few caches, this was a nice quick find in an interesting place, thanks for placing it
Found at 2:06 PM GAFF1.Well these sort of micros I don't mind - more like a good sized "Small" Thanks to GemmaSistema
Took a stroll today with my toddler comfortably seated in the stroller. The BSRT trail always proves to be a great choice for stroller walks. Our mission was to acquire 4 of GemmaSistema's caches, contributing to my progress in the Victorian Cache hider challenge. We parked at Scarsdale Community Park and proceeded either on foot or with the stroller, as my toddler insists. Approaching this location, I spotted a promising area that seemed like a potential cache hiding spot, and my instincts were spot on. The cache container was in excellent condition, and the dry log had plenty of room for entries. An interesting spot for a pause and a read. TFTC!
To nice a day to stay home so I went for a wonder along this track to find a few more TFTC
Another GZ, another easy find on our walk. Log signed and replaced, no problems. Thanks for the cache, GemmaSistema!
After leaving Rutherglen and attending a wedding in Taradale we headed across to the 'rat to spend some time before Lady Morris had her mouth surgery.
We camped at Smythesdale and today we jumped on the bikes to head towards Linton and put a bit of a dent in that stretch of caches.
We did manage to get there - approx 40 kms of riding that is going to hurt tomorrow. I think that leaves us with about 4 left to find including one DNF today.
Thanks for contributing to the fun GemmaSistema

Headed out for a ride along this part of the rail trail to grab a few for the day. I completed about 75% of the series way back in 2015 when down here on a solo caching run. Good to actually live here now so I can take my time and finish it all. Todays tally was 11, before heading back to the car and getting out of the wind.
Thanks GS. Cache here all good

Find #2968 for me. Found at 9.07am with my dog Bonnie while visiting the area from Bendigo. This was another quick find for me along the rail trail before the heat set in. All was in good condition. Thanks for highlighting this location to the geocaching community Gemma, and thanks for the cache!
Fourth full day in Ballarat and with the kids still asleep, we continued our holiday tradition of Huntress off on a long run, while I went off geocaching. This morning I was focusing on the Goldern Plains LGA. As such we drove to Smythesdale and while I started geocaching heading South, Huntress started her 20 kilometre run back to Ballarat.
Most caches found in good condition and pretty quick for myself who often takes forever to find a basic hide. Think the total for this morning was 19 finds with only 2 DNF, and that should take my Goldern Plains LGA to over 20.
Not a lot of evidence of the station so the sign and photos were cool.
Thanks for the cache Gemma Sistema

SueHut and I have finally made it to the Rail Trail, are on bikes and finding caches! Go us!
A nice, easy cache to start us off. Not at all a harbinger of what's to come.
Thanks heaps, GemmaSistema!

Accompanied with pwala and found your cache GemmaSistema, thank you so much for placing it.
Out with crank1, we attended a CITO at Napoleons, then came here to this area with our e-bikes. Thanks GemmaSistema.
The last day of Xmas/New Year break so we decided to take out the treadlies and complete part of the BSRT - Smythesdale to Linton section.
A lovely day to spend outdoors and find some tupperware before we are stuck indoors and back to working from home.

With both kids at Scout Jamboree we had a holiday in Ballarat. I decided we should attempt a distance along the BSRT. We borrowed the kids bikes as they are so much better than our rickety bikes. We skipped this one the say toward Ballarat but as we rode past, I knew what type of hide it was. Nice quick find.
Out for another day with the lovely echidna44 for a day of caching. This involved a very early start as our plan was to attend the CITO in Smythesdale, then cache our way home via Linton and a couple in Geelong to complete the day. After attending the nearby CITO the rail trail section from Scarsdale to Nimon's Bridge was our next target An easy find but incredibly difficult to open. TFTC GemmaSistema
Out with au.fait, we attended a CITO at Scarsdale, then cached our way home doing Adventure Labs and trads. Easy to find, difficult to open. Thanks GemmaSistema.
Newton or new swamp? Very wet around the sign. Sent the young UN in to get this.. tftc
Out with two friends, one a first timer. Ticking off a few more of the rail trail...like a little mouse, we just keep nibbling at it...another one closer to completing it
If you’re not too good with spiders and creepy crawly bugs, do not turn this geocache over lol. The sign is quite interesting and has lots of information. I never would have known this was here otherwise, TFTC
Day five of the Geo Tour adventure. The others had to head home so I’m travelling solo today to gather some adventure labs and other caches around the area.
A quicker cache to find than the last.
Thanks GemmaSistema for the cache.

TFTC. After a morning on the bike and lunch, Linda and I took the Geo-vehicle to the Linton end of the BSRT. We drove to points where the trail and a road crossed and went walking to attempt the caches. Certainly got the excercise today. Only 1 dnf and 22 finds for the afternoon.
After a crazy year, it’s time to get away for a bit of R&R, and of course a cache or two.
Day five: BSRT - Smythesdale to Linton.
Watch out for the cache guardian!
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, GemmaSistema

We drove up to this one rather than approach from rail trail due to the rain. Made it a really easy find
Logging a few which we forgot to log. This was our last weekend out before Covid sunk it's teeth in. Was a lovely day, getting another 5km of BSRT covered. Tftc
The day was spent caching in Enfield state park along back roads enjoying the solitude.
Now i was back on made roads gathering a few more.
I'm slowly ticking caches off along the trail, this time on foot. I was able to make an uncomplicated find along the trail.
Log signed and replaced as found.

Heading to St. Arnaud for the mega event. Day 68 of our trip. Caching along the way. A total of 8 for the day and 1894 for the trip. TFTC
A redback was here at the station waiting for the train. Found on a cold windy day. Not many on the rail trail today TFTC

Our apologies for the generic logs, they do not mean that we think any less of the caches or the placement of them.
Today we have decided to camp here at Smythesdale for a few days and go cache hunting in the area plus head into Ballarat to have a look around. We enjoyed the walk along the trail, we met with an interesting man walking two dogs who told us that about 100 meters ahead a snake had had a go at his dog. He also mentioned that the trail is known for there being quite a few snakes along it, so we picked up a nice sized stick to hopefully protect ourselves if needed and there was no need we did not see any snakes. All caches that we found today are in condition but one which we have put a maintenance log on. SL TFTC

BSRT - "Newtown" our final section to connect all the current stopping points along the trail. We jumped on the trusty treadlies and rode into the freezing wind from Scarsdale to "The Other End"! The end for us yes, in the middle of the trail for some
Fascinating to take in the history and visualise buildings and tracks here.
Thanks to 'GemmaSistema' for the Newtown Section of the trail.

In Ballarat for the upcoming festivities I decided to walk a section of the BSRT. I parked the car in the middle of the target area (in case the first leg proved too time consuming) and began the walk and kept walking and walking and walking all 19.5km or so my Garmin informed me.
Most caches were quick and easy finds. A couple had either been subject to cache creep or were just devious (Pine Bend). Thanks to all the cache owners who have both put them out and continue to maintain them for everyone's enjoyment.

Keen to find a couple of Hidden Creatures today, we headed for Linton to walk some of the BSRT.
Another station, it's always a good opportunity to imagine the people and goods that came and went here.
Quick find in the obvious spot. TFTC

After another early morning mission, it was now time to meet up with Jacko83 so the we could tackle the BSRT from Scarsdale to Linton.
It turned out to be a great day for a ride but boy it was an icy start on the trail.
A quick find here in an obvious spot and we were on our way.

A thoroughly enjoyable ride along the tree lined route. A car at each end made it somewhat easier but an electric bike would be better

It has been ages since we (BettyBoo3747 and I) came to Ballarat and completed the BSRT. Since then it has grown somewhat, but we hadn't returned. This weekend we have teamed up with Chewin (Howard from Howjen567) to correct this oversight.
We started with a DNF at Linton, but after that our luck improved and we collected most of the caches available.
A love ride along the tree lined route. We managed to avoided the weather until the very last cache, and even then only got a bit damp.
Thanks, Robmc.

#14035. Our first full day of caching in the area. We met Howard of Howjen567 at Smythesdale and headed to Linton to ride the BSRT back to Smythesdale. We picked up a neat 50 on the trail with 2 DNF's. We logged our first find at 9.30am and the last find at 12.50pm. The weather was perfect for riding and we managed to stay ahead of the rain until about the last 500 metres into Smythesdale. The temperature also plummeted to a chilly 17 degrees in a matter of minutes.
It was an absolutely fantastic ride and the first find of the morning brought my total cache finds to 14,000 so that was a great start to the day. It is a pity it wasn't the one at the start of the trail at the station but alas that seems to be missing in action with a string of DNF's to its name.
Nice hide, such a shame the old stations are no longer here. Names added and off we go.
Thanks GemmaSistema

Great day to go for a walk. Sunny and warm, as long as you have the sunscreen on. Strolling from Newton to Linton.
Finally found some time to have a go at this trail today... something I've always wanted to do even before i discovered geocaching but now have a bigger reason to do it. Jumped on the deadly-treadly and made it from Alfredton to Nimmons Bridge in Scarsdale. Over 40 caches found which is one of my highest find days so far and 3 DNF'S. Thx to all the CO's for putting caches along here for us to find.
As easy as it gets at this one! Thx Gemma CIGCSL. Cheers again

A nice coolish day so went out and picked up a couple of caches on the BSRT Trail. This cache was a nice easy one to locate, thanks.
Decided that the day was too good to waste so went out to pick up a few BSRT Caches. Many thanks toall those maintaining this fine strip of caches.
Found at 1.00pm on our way back to camp after travelling the rail trail to Linton.

Moneydork and Mrs Moneydork had very kindly invited me, last November, for a caching trip to Victoria over the Australia Day weekend [:X]
A massive trip with 13 DNFS and 318 finds over 7 days and many kilometers of travel
My knees don't want to bend anymore after a massive ride on the Ballarat Skipton Rail Trail and then about 145 finds the next day while finishing the Dad's Mt. Disappointment Driving Lesson series [xx(] Seems my driving lesson was about me keeping both feet on the ground as I broke my own record by doing the autumn leaf thing 4 times in one day [xx(]
Still a fantastic trip with great sights and lots of cache finds [^]
Having met up with GoodLook, we had 3 bikes and a hot day of riding where most of the caches were found
Thanks for placing the caches on this rail trail [^] and giving me some exercise.... I think [xx(]

HOT HOT HOT in the sun! But certainly an interesting spot.
Out and about with Moneydork and Locus Cache. We stayed in the same accommodation with the idea that we would tackle some of the local caches in Ballarat including the rail trail and challenge caches. This is one of the caches we targeted.

After finishing the PPPT rail trail in Bendigo yesterday , we decided it was high time we finished the Ballarat to Skipton trail. Well one of us anyway. While MrT borrowed a bike locally and set out to conquer the final 24 left here in this series, I went driving the countryside picking up all the drive bys. Sounds like a good compromise Apologies for the generic logs

We found your cache BSRT - Newtown Station on a bike ride to finish off the BSRT caches. We started with lunch at the Scarsdale Park. It was ok riding along finding caches along the way down, but it sure was windy! Coming back was all up hill and very hard work for me- my bike has no gears!!
Nice easy find on a sunny day.
