We have been contacted by DOC asking us to remove our Tiritiri caches from the website.
DOC will be replacing public placed caches with ones that they place themselves, so as to better manage caching on the island. Hope they manage to get better co-ords than on some previous DOC caches.

Woke up on Sunday earlier than usual and decided to go on a ferry ride to release some stress. Which one to pick, mmhh?? Tiritiri got the go with 10 unfound geocaches .
Enjoyed a great sunny day out on the water and around the island. The walk and watching the birds took my stress level quickly down and I was able to relax. Easy find due to the hint as coordinates were out for me. TFTC

Found it today after a cheeky ride out in boat after work. It's still in great condition and placed back carefully
Went to where clue indicated which differed to phone location but no joy at either. Muggles had all gone so had a good look.
It was stunning weather for a weekend on Tiri to take in the wildlife and pick up all the caches along the way. After having a swim to cool off on this scorcher of a day, and with no one else on the platform it was time to put my name on the log. It was well buried in the natural cam so I missed it the first time round. Luckily a more thorough search yielded the cache and the formalities were soon done.
Was almost passed GZ before I realized it. Lucky with a quick find as I had to catch up with my friends. Tftc
Hint very helpful. We went straight to it and muggles didn't seem to notice. tftc
I am staying overnight, and have just had a swim. Its nearly 6 pm, the ferry has long gone. But the Bay is filled with boats, with kayaks and inflatables pulled up along the shore. Because of the time, they are starting to pack up, so in between the muggles, I have a quick search.
The GPS I discover did not have the co-ords loaded? probably human error, luckily I vaguely remembered the hint, and so looked in a few areas, before I got to the right one.
A nearby area is still marked off for the Dotterel (Tuturiwhatu), and a pair of Oyster Catcher also breed nearby. If the Dotterel return next year, it might be an episode of "Neighbours at War" as to who gets the best site.
Thanks for the hide, and sharing the history of your time on the Island

Well for my 9000th I had to do something special, and what better way than to head out to one of my favourite places, especially since it had expanded in cache numbers since I was last here. The boat was full despite it being a Friday, but it was a lovely sunny day, and after the DOC talk I made a bolt for the beach knowing that the volunteers usually headed up the Wattle track, so quick smart walk to Hobbs beach it was.
Got to GZ and there was just one group further down the beach, so made the quick find, had replaced and was taking photos when the next group turned up.
The GPS was 20m out but the hint made it an easy find, the 20m away was in a closed off area of the beach for Dotril nests and there were several Dotrils darting around the beach.

On the beach watching New Zealand dotterels and their chick. Near the end of a great two days on the island.
Sounds like it is possible to find this cache without going into any restricted areas, so we are re-enabling it.
As part of conservation week I thought I'd make the most of the discounted ferry fares for a day of bird watching and geocaching
Unable to get to GZ as the area is cordoned off. A pair of endangered New Zealand Dotterels are nesting on the beach. Visitors are asked to keep clear of the area.
Our GPS was showing 22m. Thankfully the hint meant only one place it could be. We got here 10 minutes before the ferry left. Felt very lucky to be staying in the bunkhouse. No muggles at all but plenty of bird activity. An oyster catcher nesting nearby and a pair of dotterel. NINO TFTC
Had got to the wharf very early and remembered this cache and reading all about it.
Dad and I wandered off and happily again had the cache in hand very quickly.
We have had an awesome day, was happy with one cache find on the island but to come away with 4 was fantastic. Would happily return again.

Our first find of a day of caching on this beautiful island. The birds and their calls are amazing not to mention some of the fascinating fauna. Probably wouldn't have made the trip out here if it weren't for these caches! The gps was a little off on this one but was a quick find thanks to the golden hint. Tftc
Good camouflage under lots of sticks though. GPS coordinates a bit off (25 meters away).
Meet up with Kiwicouple on day of placement, they gave us the co-ordinates and sent us on our way, was waiting for the official first to finder to log. Thanks for the history lesson, this Island has such a long history, an absolute treasure now a big thanks to everyone in the past who's efforts have made it all possible.
Meet up with Kiwicouple on day of placement, as we were staying overnight they gave us the co-ordinates and sent us on our way and now logging as its gone live and been found by another cacher. TFTC.
First time on Tiritiri for many years and amazing to see how much the trees have grown in that time. When we planted the trees all those decades ago that they would grow so big. Lovely walk along the path way here and beautiful views from this little spot. Many thanks for this cache and its timely publication.
