Got back today and checked again. Have decided to archive this as the area is a lot more scrubby and untidy than I remember from the time I hid it. Some gorse has become established near the cache and it seems people are searching near that and, once pricked, they then write unpleasant logs. Oh well. Container removed.

Hard to credit there would be a quarry up here and until this placement it had never ocurred to me. You live and learn.
Took a bit of searching with two sets of eyes and then the pens were out.
Thanks

Overnight trip to dunnas but first a morning paua dive at kakanui.
After dropping my gear at kjrs I continued south on a mission.

Only read the cos note when I got to gz had a good scratch around but came up empty probably is still there I just can't see it this time

It's coming to something when you can't find your own hide! Finally got out to check the hide after some log references to gorse (some in some fairly terse terms). I have a good recollection (at least I think I do) of where I hid this and it wasn't there. I had a bit of a search around but couldn't find it. I guess that means one of three possibilities: 1) Significant cache creep has occurred; 2) The cache is gone; 3) My memory isn't as good as I thought it was. On the basis that it could be the third option I won't archive just yet as the cache may still be there. There are some gorse bushes several metres from where I recall hiding the box. Perhaps the cache has crept closer to those. Interesting that none of the logs prior to the last few have mentioned the gorse then there is a run of them. When I have more time and are more suitably dressed (and armed with the co-ords and hint, which I didn't have this morning) I will have another look.

10-Nov-17
Have noticed the reference to gorse at GZ. I wouldn't hide a cache under a gorse bush so either the cache has crept or gorse has recently become established. Either way, I will try to get out this way to check asap.

07-Nov-17
Found the cache and SL. Box was returned under to the hide. TFTC

06-Nov-17
Last one up this side of the hill and parked at the gateway hoping they're not quarrying aggregates today. The hint turned out to be an older unfriendly gorse log which left a little present to remind me to wear my gloves more often. Clear box had a new poly baggy change and SL. TFTC
*Next year will look at the other caches from the coast side.*

Tftc, we initially looked too far from the road. We found an old rusty piece of equipment which looked like it could be an interesting place for hiding something, but eventually we went back to the road, looked again on the GPS and found the cache quite quickly. Grabbed the trackable to take it for a spin!

03-Jan-16
A fairly quick find with markhnz, as we approach the last of the quarries. TFTC

Yay found it!

I came by here a few months ago before purchasing my garmin and had a bit of a poke around but was put off by the prolific grass growth. Now with a Garmin and the grass having been knocked back over winter it was a quick find. A nice snug place for the hide.

30-May-15
A quick stop in the rain, lucky for us there is some shelter under the trees at GZ. Found with Aoraki Sheep.

30-May-15
It is quite a large hole and worthy of a cache. Enjoying the series. Found with debsnz

Interesting background. Had assumed they'd prefer something hard like basalt to use for roading, but the GNS geology map shows the area to be textural zone 2B semischis.

TFTC! Smile This quarry was start for the sealing of the road by Road South. It saved me a lot of time on my work journey. #1231 2/100.

A quick stop and our first cache on a Good Friday caching trip down south. Having spent a fair amount of my childhood staying on the nearby farm, I know this area well and can vouch for how happy the locals were to finally have their road sealed. Thanks U.N.C.L.E.

03-Apr-15
Metal from this quarry was used to complete the sealing of the Southern Scenic Route, much to the delight of tourists and car rental firms.

A bit of a longer drive for me this morning, but plenty of time to get there and back even before normal people wake up Razz! I can't believe I have not noticed the quarry here at my previous visits to the area, the huge hole next to the road so obvious today even in the faint light... Nice quick find on a pretty deserted road. TFTC!!

This is the penultimate cache in the series. The final cache will be published in a week or so. You will need the numbers from the nine caches in the series to be able to do the calculations necessary to find the co-ords of the final. The final is (hopefully) going to be a 10 litre pail (shock! horror!) with a FTF prize.
