Coaxed out to the western border by an event at the Bendora Arboretum, I navigated some of the ACT's (and, very briefly, NSW's) finest gravel roads in pursuit of a few caches in an area I'd never before considered visiting, but ended up becoming quite enamoured by in this crisp autumn weather. With enough phone reception out here for satview to kick in, I figured I could drive pretty close to the cache (very close, even, as it turned out) and decided to stop by.The coordinates wanted to lead me to one landmark that I was pretty sure had the cache and, after a brief glance, a familiar attachment method was sighted.Currently, this is behind some temporary fencing presumably in place to preserve the historical site here.Fortunately, as a "trained" ""professional"" in fence-jumping, I was able to make a quick retrieval well away from the ruins themselves. However, a relocation may serve this one well in the long run. Thanks to Tankengine for the placement!
Sometimes I think Im too blind to geocache. Took longer to find than we should have theres a fence around it nowTFTC!
Happy to report we were the only ones at these interesting ruins this morning. Log signed without any revhead muggle dodging required, and we were on our way further into the bush. Thanks!
Found during the geobash tour. Great 4wd activity and very knowledgeable guide. TFTC.
found with Cosmonaut97 and Firebatman88 and Convoy 1 as part of the 4wd tour
First stop on the Geobash 4WD tour , stopped and found after a search, area was roped off so had to reach in, signed as "Convoy 1"
Tagging along on the organised Brindabella Tour as part of the Capital Geobash Mega. Thanks to our team leaders who lead us to some wonderful places throughout the day. We had a mixture of finds and everyone had a go at finding one. The forestry tracks were dusty but that didnt seem to put a damper on the fun we all had. Thanks to all for organising. Log book signed as convoy 2.
Teamed up with Crack'n'LeeLee and 2beez for todays 4WD tour organised as part of the Canberra Mega. We had an awesome day out grabbing a few caches as we went (Tiz13 hold on tight in the back)..we were part of Convoy 1 ...Car 7 . Charlie was our call sign and we had the task of bringing up the rear...so I dubbed us to be Charlie's angles while Bosley the driver aka Crack mysteriously developed a NZ accent...Bro .....
We were heading off on an organised 4 wheel drive tour as part of the fun at the Capital Geobash mega. This was our second cache attempt while filling in some time to let the other group get a bit ahead. It is a real shame when things like this get burnt down.At least there is a cache here to remind us of what once was. With this many eyes looking the cache was found quickly and the log signed as convoy 2 to save room. Many thanks Tankengine for bringing us here.
Well its finally time for the Canberra Geobash Mega. After a big day yesterday of travelling and of course caching ( i didnt now it took over 12hrs to get to Canberra from Melbourne ) it is now my first full day here.I teamed up with Roaming Howie, OzHockeyChick and Kristysadventures and we became team Pork for the day.We all piled into the GeoRanger for a fun day out and the 2 big kids had the back seat and we were off on the 4WD trip around the hills. This was the first stop while we waited for the first group to get a head.Sadly this old cabin was lost in the fires but we did find the cache signed in as convoy 2.Thanks Tankengine TFTC.
Canberra Geobash Road Trip 2024. Day Four: 4x4 Tour with RoamingHowie, posums & Kristysadventures. Logs signed as "PORK" or "Convoy 2".After the previous dnf, we headed here to what was left of this cabin. Others had notes of the hide, which were nothing like where I eventually spotted it.Thanks for bringing us here by placing this cache, Tankengine ??~????????~
Today on Good Friday, Team PORK (Posums, OzHockeyChick, RoamingHowie and I) joined Convoy 2 on a four wheel geo driving tour as part of the Canberra mega events. After a short drive, we were at our first stop and OzHockeyChick quickly spotted the cache and we were off.
A few of us had walked ahead whilst others ventured into the bush but we stopped on the way up the hill anyway. Now off to the 4x4 tour that the GeoBash kindly organised. Thanks for the cache.
Out on an incredible adventure with the Aussie cachers from around the region. I had an amazing time driving around, caching, and hitting all the bumps on the road. We ended up seeing a helicopter up close and personal, while it grabbed some water to put out the nearby fire... and to think our legs after a T5 cache was the only thing on fire. Thank you for hiding and maintaining this cache - it contributed to an incredible day out there in the park!
Here with a bunch of cachers as part of the Mega. Its a beautiful day to be out 4x4 caching! Fun to meet new cachers and see some pretty countryside. Really excited to be exploring a new part of Australia for me. Signed under the group name of Convoy 1. Thanks for the cache!
Caching from WA west coast to ACT for 2 megas. TFTC. Place is fenced off but cache is still there. Signed as Convoy 1
TFTC found whilst on the mega 4wd tour with Crack n Lee Lee & Tiz13. Signed as Convoy 1. Interesting old ruins, Lee Lee spotted this one. ????
Out and about in Canberra with the view to collect Multies, challenges and suburban cachesWe headed to Brindabellas for some 4WDing and picking up some cachs as we went. Our first cache for the day.Caching with and signing as the group 'crew 2' and having a great day.TFTCache Tankengine
I'm out on the Brindabella 4WD Tour, another great tour on during the [Capital GeoBash](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9PNFB_capital-geobash). This was another of the great caches we found in between great views and exciting driving. Thanks for arranging this excursion.Signed as Convoy #2Thanks for find #5939TNLN
Day #4 Geobashing It was 4WD tour day. Somehow I ended up with a band of misfits in the car which included OzHockeyChick, posums and Kristysadventures. Whether they all return back to Mega HQ is another story! All caches were signed as PORK or Convoy 2.It was time to get the show on the road and this was a quick stop for a cache at this one.A big thanks goes to Tankengine for taking the time to add Condor Cabin to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Looking for caches to find when visiting Victoria? Why not check out the geocaching lists available on the [Geocaching Victoria Website](https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists/). There are plenty to choose from including all of the previous nominees and winners of the Victorian Cache of the Year Awards.
We came to Canberra for the Geobash Event and couldn't resist booking some of the great tours on offer. Today, one of the team took the "suss vulture's wings" on the 4WD tour in convoy 2. We were treated to lots of dust, some rough tracks and great views. Of course we had to find some caches along the way, which were signed as convoy 2.Thanks to the cache owners for providing and maintaining these caches.

This was our first cache on our Mega 4WD tour, and we signed the log as a team, Convoy 1.It was a beautiful scenic day out with like-minded friends and acquaintances and big thanks to Greg for sharing your vehicle with patrol14 and myself.Thank you, Tankengine, for placing a cache in this area that has a little piece of history attached.
Caching our way around Canberra taking in the sights with 2beez and attending Mega. Today we are on a 4wd tour organised as part of the Mega weekend. Our first stop for the day. The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave us a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown us so many new and interesting places as weve chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached together and sometimes alone but always had a great time.Today we joined the mega Brindabella 4wd tour and explored this fabulous part of the country. A most enjoyable way to spend the day. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for us and adding to our enjoyment.
When on a maintenance run with dty73 today. Replaced the logsheet in this cache. Old log attached.GOOD TO GO!!!
Find#5547Nice hiding place What a awesome day to be out in the Brindabellas Thanks for the cache
I was out this way with the 4WDT testing the trip for the geobash next year. I would not normally get the chance to do something like this and I am glad i put my hand up to go. The log was signed 4WDT instead of writing a huge number of names including Nibletricecakes, MinnieK, isopeda, Flintstones, Toy Hunter, and a number of other cachers. Thanks for the adventure.
Found with and signed as 4WD Team (4WDT) convoy which was a trial run before the Capital Geobash, a big thanks to jusojara for leading such an awesome tour around the Brindabellas! This was a quick find on our drive toward Flea Creek. Amazing history here but yet another reminder of 2003. TFTC TE!
Signed the log here with the 4WDT, to save space. Some nice remnants of the old forestry hut, and good knowledge of it provided by jusojara. Cheers Tankengine --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
Made the late decision to go on the 4WD sample tour organised by jusajara and The Farmers 5 ahead of the upcoming Canberra Mega.So glad that I did because it was a great day out. Great day, great company, great tour! All caches that we aimed for were found and signed as 4WDT.
Our first cache once after actually starting our 4WD Tour, just a short drive on from our meeting point. Always good to have others to do all the hard work while I watch on, not that it was terribly tricky! TFTC.
We decided, since it was such a beautiful day, to take a drive and head into Blue Range again. We are enjoying exploring this area.
Before heading into blue range, we took a short detour to this one and were surprised to see the remnants of history here. What a pity the hut was destroyed in the fires. Some beautiful stonework.
It was very quiet at GZ today.
Thanks Tankengine

We decided to take the scenic route to Canberra and make a couple of stops on the way to find some caches. It took us a while to locate this well hidden cache. There was nobody around today, so we could search unhindered. TFTC!

Thanks to Aquilus1 the old container was retrieved! So I have attached the old log! GOOD TO GO!
Exploring Brindabella Rd on a caching adventure with GLISS! A very fun afternoon battling nature as we tracked down all the caches. Thanks for all the fun. Thanks for the cache.
A quick find with Nibletricecakes on our afternoon adventure on Brindabella Road. Thanks for highlighting the remains of the cabin. TFTC.
While GreyHams searched and signed the replacement log I had a little look in the wall for the original. Popped it out and will pass on to the CO next I see him.
We were looking for somewhere to go caching today, and seeing a new chache still unfound made me look a little closer, and it was in an area full of unfound caches...and it was in a county that neither of us have a FTF in....so early start was had, and with McMuffin in hand we set off for Mt Franklin.
Still a little ice on the ground when we got out of the car but the slope of the hill warmed us up. All info gathered easily, passing all the trads on the way up and some nice looking coords were had. OK, FTF out of the way we set about trying to at least start multi's, solve puzzles, admire earthcaches, grab trads and even a Wherigo.
A sidetrip down to Bendorra dam was made, on a road that was a little scary at times. Very impressive dam and nice little set of caches to find there too.
After that it was mostly park and grabs on the way back...saw GLISS! and nibletricecakes pass in the other directions after the briefest on-the-road chat.
All in all, a great day with some great variety. To all the CO's, thank you for placing.
This seems to have moved since my DNF, but happy for that!

I always wanted to stop for these two caches but never really had the oportunity to, usually I had someone with me in the car or was running late. Today, being out here early and with no other plans, I made a quick stop to grab this cache.
Thank you Tankengine for putting the cache out and maintaining it.

We managed a time with noone else around and after the GPSr led us on a merry dance we eventually used our caching senses to find the cache. Would have loved to have seen this pre 03-fires. TFTC
A drive to the Brindabella’s, a quick stop here to get the cache. We had to wait until the trail bikers geared up and left before we could make the find.

Found during a drive to complete a Wherigo and an AL. Unfortunately there was no mobile service and I had forgotten to download cache listings. Luckily, we were able to use our cache senses for the find. TFTH
TFTC Quick easy find today, thanks
Grateful thanks to CO for placing and maintaining the caches to entertain me on my journey.

On the way up to the Mt Franklin Rd, this was a quick find in the obvious spot. Nice and quiet here on a Monday. Thanks, Tankengine.
Out at Blue Range for an afternoon training session on how to put together a good emergency survival kit and decided to finally stop by Condor Hut to find this cache. The last time I was out here, there was a lot more to this hut, but that's a sign of the times I suppose. Would be good to have some heritage signage, even if it is being left to natural ruination processes. TFTC
I decided not to do today's walk rather to attend the end of walk event. This was a good excuse to grab some more caches that I had previously passed without attempting to find. This was one of them and it was a good quick find. TFTC TE SL
Thanks for replacing the cache and log. I got there today after having done the Back of the Cotter Scenic Trail and some more. Definitely no Bikers or 4X4 enthusiasts around on a Monday arvo.
Haven't been in this part of the ACT for a while and this little side trip gave me a good reminder of what is where.

Found today but the cache needs some maintenance. We could spy it and I even had my fingers on it but I think a rock inside was dislodged and the cache has gone in too far to retrieve.
Cache condition:. Silver bison has disappeared

Huzzah! Cracked it! Not sure how the cunningly hidden cache was not spotted on the previous attempt. The last cache on our return trip from an extra long weekend at Yarrangobilly Caves. Sadly did not attempt a number of caches on our return via Brindabella Rd as my device, and the Garmin, had all run out of juice. This one on the second attempt by memory, so well chuffed to find. TFTC TankEngine
Headed out today to finish off this trail with Rapidlywild as our plans changed due to one of the FF's pair being sick.
After finishing the ALL7 trail we picked up some other caches along the road.
Nice old area would have been good in its day.
Bit of a search for this one before finally coming up with the goods.
Thanks for the placement Tankengine.

Original plans were modified for today being we had an unwell FFLL member, so FFLL#1 and myself decided to head out Uriarra way to finish off a trail we had started another time and collect a couple other randoms along the way.
After knocking off the last of the Uriarra Drive series, we checked out the map and noticed this one nearby. Cool location, shame it was taken in the fires however it adds to its story. Did a couple laps before zoning in on a particular location and eventually the little bugger was spotted. Signed and replaced.
Thanks for the hide Tankengine and thanks again for the fun day out FFLL

Poked and looked and brought out the torch, and looked some more, but unable to locate. Was going to persevere, but a big 4WD pulled up deciding to let their dog out for a while. And so we departed to the Cotter to cook up some bacon for a BLT sanger lunch... it was delicious, but very windy and cold. TFTC opportunity TankEngine
A quick find today thanks for the cache and the adventure signed dsd or DARKSIDEDAN depending on the size of the cache.

This is a cool little spot! Shame it was burnt down in the fires however would of loved to see it before it was just a small part of the walls left!
Parked right next to GZ and had the place to myself, checked out one corner before deciding to move onto the next possible corner and after doing a systematic check I soon spied the cache! Used a stick to help with retrieval, signed the log and returned it as found!
Awesome little cache and location, thanks!

Geocaching with Nighthawk238 with our penultimate goal being Mt gingera. After seeing that GreyHams DNF I thought that we'd also not find this cache. However with 2 sets of keen eyes the cache was quickly discovered well hidden. The hint did help. Tftc
I circled this structure for ages, looked on the inside four corners, looked on the outside four corners, probed all the cracks I could see, but no banana!!! Maybe next time. Oh well, I had lost my pen at the last one anyway

Find #9350
This one was signed on day 11 of my mega road trip to Morisset and back. After a big day yesterday with GT37 and P4506, we decided a hotel for the night may be a great idea.
Now it was time to stop for the first ACT cache of the trip. This I would say was much harder than expected, mainly due to fat fingers. Eventually using a TOTT, I managed to retrieve.
Many thanks to Tankengine for the cache.

Sunday 15 October 2017 - a superb sunny Spring afternoon with a brilliant blue sky in the mid 20s spending 4 hrs enjoying outback Uriarra. Found 8 from 9 caches (1 multi & 7 trads) including the fun retrieval of 2 Tankengine's weird weir caches that were adventures in themselves. Loved Blue Range Hut and the surrounds including the 1km return steep walk straight up the hill. We forgot the secatures that would have saved us from the prickles and scratches while searching for the weir caches.
The hint assisted as much as to identify that the cache was in one of the four corners however the GPS was jumping all over the place making it difficult to concentrate our efforts on one corner. Knowing that the cache had been found that morning we persisted in our search. After 15min of searching we had no choice but to bring out trusty bike torch and it was only then just visible with the strong light. It took more than 5 minutes to construct a couple of retrieval implements to push from behind and pull from in front. Have returned the cache so that it is well hidden but it should not fall down the hole again. Thx p2p. TFTC Tankengine.

Out with dty73 today for few caches opting for some closer to the road and the car and there sure are quite a few. Thanks to the hint we were able to have this found ok and returned just before a car of trail bikers came in. Thanks for the cache TE.
Out for an afternoon cache run with Aquilus1.
We had planned to go elsewhere, but with rain coming we thought we would try more drive time than walk times.
Nice quick park and grab thanks to the hint. Got in and out before the rain came. Tftc Tankengine!!!

Once at the gz I hunt and hunt to no avail until I took a step back and grumbled. Went to kick a Rick in frustration and nearly kicked the cache. I was so focused on potential hides I did not expect to see it in the middle of the road in the open. Cache was quickly signed and replaced in what seemed to be the hiding spot based on hint. Fingers crossed I put it in the right spot. Tftc

2nd last for the day and a good day it had been. drizzle was just beginning but we were homeward bound. Well hidden little critter - must say - wouldn't shed a tear for the loss of that hut - pretty ugly. Sol had already found it.
Yes, I well and truly remember the hut before the fire, yep, as jumbled and ramshackle as TE's photo. I first saw it in the 80's. Hide was tricky, coordinates put me at the correct location, but it was well hidden, took about 5 mins to locate it, replaced as found, can be seen easily if looking AT IT. Thanks.
Found it after about 15 mins! One muggle car parked nearby but luckily it was empty. Good hiding spot and the hint had us looking in all 4 different areas but eventually got it right. SL, TFTC
Time for another geomission with Specimen X. She wanted to test out her new GeoJeep, and I wanted a couple of higher T rated caches, so our interests coincided perfectly! We headed off the bitumen on a perfect Canberra autumn morning and had an awesome time, finding 18/18 caches attempted. back by dark - just - we had to stop ourselves from finding "just one more". Thanks to all the cache owners for their caches, and to Specimen X for her fab company today!
2/18 - this one was just up the road from the last one and almost a drive-by. A quick find and we were on our way. Thanks Tankengine - #102 of yours.

We so enjoyed the organised expedition to Mt Franklin's four caches on Sunday that we decided (at 11am this morning) to come back and do some more of these high altitude geocaches today. So we drove GeoFalcon to the locked gate at Mt Ginini and cached back down the road from there.
I took a little while here - partly because it was raining, and partly because it was a sneaky hide. But a bit of strong torchlight does wonders. All good with this cache.

10483. One of several finds on a nice Easter Sunday caching run down the Cotter area.
After the event SDL and I aimed for a few TE caches up in the forests. This was the first one, and as we arrived we saw Mister JD already searching. Splitting the GZ up we soon found the neat hide. Signed, returned, and we were on the way to the next one.
Thanks again Tankengine !! Second of several of yours today !
TNLN - TFTC !!

Headed out this way with fitzy after the event for a couple of finds that we thought mightn't take long......which turned out to be spot on. Once at GZ for this one, where we found Mister JD already looking, we searched a couple of spots and soon had the cache in hand.
No problems...thanks TE.....

Third attend/find for the day. Since the last find, I've been put off six more caches by gates and 1080 baits. I'll have to come up with a bike next time. It will be interesting and energetic. This is an interesting location, and I've tried looking up a bit of the history. Good hide, Tankengine. I ended up poking around in the brambles, before Sol de Lune and Fitzy showed up, and located the cache. Thanks, TE.
