Heading up the hill today specifically for this Challenge cache I do qualify for. A great walk up the hill, on a sunny, cold, dry, windy day. Have been waiting for the rain to stop and these tracks to dry out. I timed it perfectly. No problems finding the cache, which was in a great location with a nice breeze. Cache in perfect order. It constantly amazes me how often caches are left lonely for many months/years. I can understand if they're on a mountain peak, but most aren't and are easily accessible. ,';*={thanks}-*;', ,;:*(thanks}:*;*:{thanks}*:;, ,;{thanks}:;:*{thanks}:;:{thanks);, `;:{thanks};:{thanks}:;{thanks}:;' `*&;:{thanks}:;:{thanks},:;&*' `-+;:*{thanks}*:;+-` `-\\\||///-' __ \\||// __ / `------' \ | }-(______)-{ | \___/ |||| \___/ /_, |||| ,_\ \| |/(This is Ramble #6, counting towards GC2XBA7 Rambler's Reward Challenge).

Didn't realise I had two to qualify for this! Had only lined up Okonomoyaki Party as my qualifier. I've been quite caught up in the last 6 months with seeking out lonely caches, inspired by the sister cache to this one (the 1000 day challenge). In qualifying for that one I have of course also qualified comfortably for this one. I have attached a screenshot of this. Thanks very much GSEL for these challenges which have got me out and about on the tracks in several areas that were new to me and reminded me of how very much I enjoy that type of geocaching. The cache was a quick find and all in good order. Thanks very much for the cache. FP added.

Early in my caching career I came across a "lonely challenge", asking to find a number of caches at least six months lonely totally 15 years, I think it was. Since then I wrote a script to track my lonely finds and as at March 10 2024 I have 488 of them (I haven't run the script since that date, and I call a cache lonely if it has been at least a year since it was last found). Resorting the spreadsheet... I have 308 at least 500 days, the oldest being at the 8.5 year mark. Rnd() picked 298, so today's cache is...[GC5GE0C](https://coord.info/GC5GE0C)Seaward View Junction (Nelson/Marlborough)found 2018-02-03last found 2016-09-10Days 511.A nice walk in the hills above the cemetery. We are so lucky to have this so close to urban areas.

I qualify for this cache several times over. For example I found the following cache 660 days after the previous finder: GC1AYWW Walkways of Otago: Yellow Ridge (Commemorative) Traditional Geocache, which I found on 11/2/2024.I hope to come to Wellington within the year to collect this and some other challenge caches.

I noticed this challenge a couple of days ago, and as I have found a few lonely caches lately, I thought I should grab this one too. The loneliest cache I have found this week was GC3APHC The Pilgrimage - The Holy Land (Wellington), which had last been found on 26/4/2021 before I found it on 5/1/2024 - a whopping 985 days. Was a very pretty setting today, with the usual field of rabbits all abloom with yellow flowers and bumblebees.

19-Nov-23
We're coming down to Wellington later in the week and as I have fulfilled this challenge, I will pick it up then hopefully. I found GC1186X - Te Kauri-Manuka Track (Waikato) on 3/2/23 and that was the first find for 621 days according to Google - so the criteria is met. Update later...

Couldn't believe we had the requirements for this. Once we knew we could do it just had to reach it. Big hike up the hill then looked like we had a field of gorse to negotiate. After a couple of false starts saw it was just a screen of gorse with wide open space behind. Just a field of rabbits. Would never get muggled in here we thought... but wait, what? A big dog comes loping in snooping around followed by its owners. Oh well. Smile and say hi while looking very suspicious. TFTC

Headed up hill this afternoon to check the cache. Access is still OK in the tracks via the cemetery and area near the cache is open thanks to lots of rabbits keeping the grass well grazed. Replaced the container with wet log with a new container and logbook. Happy hiking.

FINALLY!!!
Almost five years (25 August 2018) since I wrote a note that I qualified for this challenge! I remember writing the note and for some reason just completely forgot about coming here to get this cache (I think this was the first challenge cache that I had seen).

The log is in very bad condition, signed as "IB"

Copy from my note below:

I found this challenge and completed the challenge earlier this year. I was not intending to be up this way today, but ended up on a longer walk than planned. The cache itself was a quick find. The log is very damp, mostly in tatters, and in need of some new and/or waterproof paper, but I did not have any supplies with me today. I did manage to sign the log. Thanks very much for setting the challenge.

Out for an AdLab walk in Otari when I spotted this cache up the hill presenting a sad face to me on my map. Up I walked to arrive at a familiar GZ to find the cache in just about the first place I looked. How did I miss that last time?
I have dithered for a while to decide which resuscitated cache to claim and then subsequently I visited Rangitoto so I will claim GLCS19 - GC3QY7Z which gives me 2051 days since the last find log. Ironically, this CO was the last finder back in 2017!
Thanks GSEL for the Challenge.

I live not far from here so heading up to this cache was a good excuse for a walk up the hill. Very pleased to find that I qualified for the find, from a cache I found in January this year in the Tararua Ranges.

I scattered several bunnies as I approached. Quick find. The log is quite wet and difficult to write on so I signed as JLT.

Qualifying cache: GC4Z94W Bridges of the Atiwhakatu (Wairarapa). Found on 23/01/22, previous find 25/7/20 (547 days apart).

I was fearing the worst as I slowly climbed up the hill from the cemetery. A wall of gorse. But like Moses it parted in front of me for a clear run to the final with just a few bunnies for company. Thanks. Another one ticked off.

I live in the UK so no idea if I'll ever get here to collect this. I'd love to visit though. After the first lockdown on the UK (very jealous of the way you guys handled it all), I only found resurrection caches as they were guaranteed to be COVID free. As such I have 24 qualifiers for this but only 1 for the 1000 days. Take your pick.

07-Feb-21
A quick find here, approached from the Skyline.

This could almost be renamed the 500 rabbit challenge, the area is infested with them!

Qualified more than once but the one i will use is one with the longest gap between finds, GC29WMQ with 784 days from 21.5.16 to 14.7.18. Next longest was GC2DQ0M Feed the Ducks at 699 days.

TFTC and a new one for the D/T grid.

Ended up being a bit longer walk than I thought after work but keen to keep going on 20 puzzles within 30 days and had set my mind on this tonight. Gorgeous day and beautiful walk. Ready for a cold beer now!

Qualified over xmas holidays with cache GC5PYK1 Journeys End (Northland). Found on 26/12/20. Last prior find 4/11/18. 783 days.

25-Jan-21
I qualify for this challenge several times but I have chosen GC4PP3K “And then there were none” at 699 days between finds as the others that I have found that have had longer intervals between finds have had issues such as being disabled for a while or have been replacements for missing caches. I found the lonely cache on 19/09/20 with the previous find being on 21/10/2018.

We walked right past GZ without realising it, so backtracked after finding another relatively near solved puzzle cache to collect this one. It was early evening by now and approaching GZ we caused many rabbits to scatter along with a family of quail, the chicks no bigger than our thumbs. The cache was quickly found and we retreated to let the wildlife settle down. I hope the quail babies found their mum again. TFTC

Went for a walk around the hills tonight, and came across this one. I was pretty sure I qualified, so found and signed the log. Once I got back home I checked a few bookmark lists and found that sure enough, I had qualified multiple times.

I enjoy finding lonely caches so liked the look of this challenge. My qualifying cache is GC3E77J The Bunyip (Kapiti) which I found with my family on 22 April 2018 (shortly after we first started caching) and it was previously found on 7 October 2016 - 562 days between finds. Enjoyed my walk up to GZ. There were lots of rabbits in the clearing. When I arrived at GZ one of the first things I noticed was a chain with nothing attached to it; I was hoping that it wasn't supposed to have the cache attached so I was relieved to find the cache further downhill. My phone wasn't being particularly helpful, said I was about 12m away when I found it but I got there with a process of elimination and easily spied it when I was looking in the right place! Thanks for the challenge and TFTC

#1127. I was on a mission over the last few days to get a bunch of virtuals, letterbox hybrids, challenge caches and any traditionals that happened to get in the way during my trip to Wellington. This cache right here was one such challenge cache.

A few things almost stopped me getting this cache today. First, the light rain. Second, the fact I wasn't feeling well (and a steep walk was mentioned in the description). Third, the locked gates to the cemetery. Fourth, the fact that when I parked I realised I lost my pen, so I had to drive up to Karori New World to buy another one.

Finally, once I got over all these things, I managed to walk and find the cache! A nice pleasant walk in a part of Wellington I hadn't walked through before. I found it to be not at all steep like the description says. The 1000 day challenge however... now *that one* was steep.

My qualifying cache: GC451WA (PSone). I found it on 8/06/2019 and it was previously found on 13/12/2017 - according to Microsoft Excel that is 542 days of loneliness. If you're ever up in Whangarei I would highly recommend going to look for this cache, it's an amazing location.

Thanks very much for the challenge and cache!

A shoein at 522 days for Daywalk's [Ag-rarian](https://coord.info/GC30GF2) Amble from a long list of unloved caches, the longest at 1,143 days Commissioners track in Roxy not including original Slopepoint virtual (archived) short 4 days of 4000 unlogged but now locked to archived logging and one of the last few peeps to log. Was it the 1.4km return stroll along the stop bank walkway from the closest park'n'grab or the Angus burgers on hooves leaving their chips and porridge everywhere? No, we are not taking you to new crop, shooo! Funnily enough the last to sign cache were back in Nov 2017, add another 30 days ±. Wellington's a bit far away with the rest of the South Island to cache so it can wait for another life. Thanks for creating this challenge GSEL, [OSII](https://coord.info/GC1W320) is still waiting for the next finder, the coke tin was so close!

We looked long for this cache, finaly we found it. At the way back to our car we saw three keas, that was great!
To log the "sister-challenge" with 1000 lonely days, I visited a cache in germany bevor our holydays in nz began. Now we found a cache here, what was not logged since eight and a half year. So I can log this cache with my german lonely cache.

GC1cng9 I logged at 25-10-2019; last log 30-09-2016

Up on the skyline walkway getting blasted by the wind so popped down on the sheltered side to grab this one. I had actually qualified for this one way back in 28th March 2014 in my third month of geocaching. I had found GC16505 The Devil's Treadmill on a day I walked the south coast out to Karori Rock. The actual cache find was awesome fun with plenty of scree to clambour across and slide up and down on. When I found it the previous find was 562 days earlier. No problems finding the cache and signed and replaced. All in great condition. Now to figure out when I am going to get the 1000 day challenge which I also qualify for. Thanks for the cache.

Out with my latest piece of Geocaching kit, my trusty e-bike.
I thought I'd see how much of the Skyline walkway I could complete.

Absolutely gutted. I don't believe that the bunnies have run away with it so it must be here somewhere. I even jumped the fence to search from the other side.

This was a cache I had spotted, and qualified for, quite some time ago along with it's bigger brother The 1000 Day Challenge GC5QM5F.

I had thought that I might get a chance to try to search for this one during the WENZ Mega weekend, but it just never happened as there simply was never enough time to get everything done that I had wanted to.

Today I had been invited down to Welly to meet some people I had only every spoken to online, and seeing that I had a bit of extra time up my sleeve I thought it would be a great opportunity to go for this cache too.

Walking through the old cemetery was interesting. I've never been here before and hadn't realised that the deceased had been afforded views real estate developers would give their right arm for these days! The weather was stunning, and I was so grateful that the majority of the ascent towards the final location was under cover of trees. But it was a straightforward climb, and the co-ords were good enough to find the cache after just a minute or two of searching through prickly growth. All is well with this cache, so the log was quickly signed and returned as found. I only wish I had more time to carry on up to the skyline, but will have to come back again to enjoy those views.

For my qualifying cache, I'll pick the one that I found when I had only been caching less than 2 months;
GC5NG21 Danny's Crossroads of Doom! (Horowhenua)
Previously found on 2/01/2016, I found it on 5/08/2017 which is an interval of 582 days.

Thank you for the challenge, and the cache.

(# 4713). Went for a walk in Wilton Bush starting at Karori Cemetery. I wanted to clear my outstanding caches in the bush and get solved puzzles. A nice morning to go for a walk. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC

My qualifying cache is GC2J2Z4 Open Bay Heights which I found on 15/02/18 and was previously found on 26/03/16. This meant it was unfound for 691 days.

I didn't know about challenge caches until I read the description for this one last night...
Checked Project-GC for caches close by that would suit the criteria, and headed off to the Birchville Dam today to meet the challenge conditions - much success.

I'm from Norway, escaping the cold winter and travelling around New Zealand for 7 weeks, using geocaching as my tourguide. Today I had to drive from Wellington to Ohakune, via the challengetrail near Martinborough. Therefore I started geocaching at 6 am to try to get as much done as possible. My main focus today was challenge-caches.

About this cache:
The gate was closed in the weekend, so I had to park a few hundred meters away from the parking-coordinates, but that was no problem, then I also got to find the multi at the cemetary. It was such a nice trail here, so I decided to start jogging on my way to and from this cache, not to steep. Nice to get some excersise done before I was going driving all day. I'm glad it was an easy find once I got to gz, luckily the gorse hadn't spread to the hiding-spot.

I've found lots of caches longer than 500 days since they were last found, here is one excample:
GC52DPJ Mastebakken. Last found 08/10/15 and I found it 19/08/17, that is 681 days.

Thank you for the challenge and for showing me the nice area.

I found a 500 day cache last weekend while out mountain biking. It was GCYK0H Takapari View.
It hadn't been found since December 2014, so it was well over 500 days, but not enough for the 1000 day challenge.
I ran a loop of about 12km this morning to visit this cache and a couple of others.
A quick find in the final location.
Thanks.

My qualifying cache for this is [GC1TXYE - Sniper 10 gauge](https://coord.info/GC1TXYE) which I found on 26/01/2017, 629 days after the last find on 15/06/2015. I also solved an apparently difficult puzzle cache which has gone 543 days without a find but unfortunately I DNFd the cache itself and am waiting for a CO check. However, no extra marks for 2 super-lonely caches!

Today I planned a route that would take me past this cache. The GPS pretty much took me directly to it making for an easy find. It would have been quite some effort to get here specifically for this cache but luckily I have a bunch of unfound caches further up from where which is where I'm headed next. I did want to make sure I qualified for this one before coming up this way.

TFTC (C for challenge or cache, take your pick!)

500 days *and* 500 metres! Nice concept, though took a while for candidate around Wellington to come up. Fast find at GZ. TFTC GSEL. GC1WM3W The Wellington - Manawatu Railway Co.; last found 2014-08-19, found 2016-06-17 (Pacific dates), lonely for 668 days.

I had been on the lookout for lonely caches soon after this one was published. I had qualified and collected boxhill's Lonely Cache Challenge, but didn't have any finds that were lonely enough to qualify for this one. I had spotted a potential qualifier that had recently been re-instated and even took the trouble to "pre-find" for a midnight excursion (as there were several people watching it). Unfortunately for me, another cacher got to it before the 500 days were up, so that took that one out of the running.

I eventually found another potential nearby, which I ended up getting a hint or two from the previous finder for solving the puzzle. I headed out on that day and had to take a detour to get fresh batteries for my GPS (which gave a nice bit of symmetry to the experience, as I had to do the same thing this morning).

I had headed up to the Skyline, picking up the Geocaching in the 1990s and the Fairies letterbox on the way up, before looping around and collecting this one on the way down. An easy find, with the cache a little out in the open. I tucked it back behind the hint object and carried on down.

My qualifying find details:
* Cache: [GC1WT84](https://coord.info/GC1WT84): Birds of Prey
* Previous find: 25/06/2014 by SAROC
* My find: 19/12/2015
* Lonely days: 542

Out today and found GLMPC3PT 'Glendhu Reef (Wairarapa)', last found 2 years ago to the day - that's 731 days. I have been watching the Glendhu Reef cache for a while, hoping no-one else will find it so I could claim this challenge. I'll be out finding the 500 Day cache soon to sign and log it.

Cache # 3,122 - After finally nabbing a 500-day old cache about three weeks ago, I knew I would be up here to grab this one soon. Decided to approach through Otari-Wilton, and I suspect that is bit more strenuous than coming up the Skyline from the south. Great morning for a walk, and cache was an instant find at GZ. All is well there. TNLNSL. TFTCache and TFTChallenge, although I do have to admit my disappointment when this was first published. The title led me to think I had already qualified, as having well in excess of 500 straight days at that point. Instead it took me a long time to find a qualifying cache.

My qualifying cache is Last Tango in Paris (GC1R10D), last found before me on 10 November 2014, found and logged by me on 24 March 2016 - exactly 500 days gap. I had solved the puzzle a couple months earlier but saw how close it was to 500 so waited. Also saw a number of people watching the cache, so didn't dare wait any more than the exact day to grab it!

Consecutive caching day # 1,070

Finally nabbed a 500 day old cache this morning, with Last Tango in Paris (GC1R10D) completed. Wanted to put my claim in for using that cache in case anyone else finds it today. Will be by soon to sign and log this challenge!

I passed near here a couple of weeks ago but didn't qualify. I found a suitable 500 day cache in Paraparaumu ([GC1TVY6 Coastlands Comtemplation](http://coord.info/GC1TVY6), 517 days from 8th October 2014 to 8th March 2016), completed that and returned. This must be one of the easiest finds I've ever had. GPS got me close, I sat down to check the description and hint and immediately saw the cache not two feet away! 10 minutes to get my breath back then up to the Skyline Walkway. TFTC!

Found as part of my Leap Day, find 7 caches of different type, geocaching activity. This one counted as the mystery, of course.
I've been targeting some 500+ days unfound caches and finally managed to pull one over the weekend just gone.
Thanks for the challenge.

My eligible cache find is: GC3PKDV, 2 @@@ Barra Track. Found by me on 28 February 2016. Last finder was taranakiguy on 10 March 2014. Days elapsed between finds = 720.

Epic, I wondered if I should hang out for another 280 days and see if I could get it over the line for 1000 days. But as they say, a bird in the hand!

Enjoyed a brisk walk to GZ and soon had the cache in hand. Another part of the region that I have scoured for cache finds.

TFTC and the challenge. Found with team cacher Sweet P too Big Grin, but of course the rules prevent more than one claimant. And so that is. But we've got another one in our sights that might help deal to that.

The Turtle strikes again!

Having some spare time and wanting a bit of a walk in unfamiliar surroundings in the quest to explore my region a bit more I decided this would be good to get sorted given I've qualified a couple of time. Really enjoyed the walk here, ended up doing a bit of a circuit while collecting another cache on the way. Great views at the top, and a wonderful location at GZ.

My qualifying cache is 'Night time Challenge (West Coast)' which I found on 31 Dec 13, not having been found since 17 March 12, a total of 654 days. Placed a trackable.

I had already qualified for this challenge when it was published; by finding Green Tops Cache (GC1J135) on 4 August 2013, 565 days after the previous find on 17 January 2012.

This evening's caching adventure was in complete contrast to my most recent one that had eight of us spending at least ten minutes trying to find a very cleverly concealed micro. This one was a solo effort with a hike that was very much to my liking. Although I have some familiarity with the general location, I was taken to a site I had not been to before and was rewarded with a great view. My GPSr was in complete agreement with the coordinates and my total search time was practically zero.

I could choose several reasons for justifying my decision to award a favourite point to this ache. Thanks, GSEL.

Thanks for the Challange! Enjoyed the walk up the hill starting from Karori cemetery, very misty and windy today! Didn't take long to find the cache and its all in good condition.

My qualifying cache is Wild Whangaehu (Central Plateau) GC3NMER which was found on 09/03/2013. I found it on 27/12/2014 making it 659 days lonely! (1 year, 9 months, 19 days) What a great journey climbing up Mt Ruapehu that was! TFTC

Managed to finally locate GC4VAVX Tane Mahuta and the Purple Colonial yesterday Found 8/9/15, last found 21/3/14 - a gap of 536 days. Although Taybee spotted it first, he already has a number of qualifying finds for this challenge, so is graciously allowing me to use this one as my 'long lost friend!'

Hopefully will get up here in the next couple of days, and will update this note when the formalities have been completed...

Thanks for the challenge - the 1000 days one will be much more difficult!

I have found a few lonely caches and even owned one until recently. However only two qualify for this challenge. Gone Fishing GC1T15G is typical of the (very few) Wellington lonely caches. An older puzzle cache that all the experienced puzzle solvers have already found. This cache was found 6 Oct 13 and I found it 21 Mar 15 making 531 days. A favourite point for getting people looking at less popular caches.

After completing the 1000 day challenge last month we needed to take a visit to this little sister cache! we have a few 500+ caches but we have chosen one of our favorite multi for the formalities Smile

GC10YD6 - In Plane Sight (Wellington) - Multi - Last find=10/8/2012 - My Find=6/09/2014 - Lonely days=748

Nice weather today as we walked along the skyline track. ducked down off the ridge to pick this one up. cache in great condition. Thanks for the challenge cache! Smile

When this cache was published I thought sure no worries. Then the horrible truth hit me, the best I could muster was only 436 days for “Across the Water”. Even my most favourite find of all times “Para Para Noia” which still only has 12 finds in 15 years only came in at 364 days. So after a bit of research I noticed that GC43FYF “BE4/ U/Ap” in the Wairarapa had notched up 520 days. I hit the road on Wednesday afternoon (06/05/15) to go and find it. Straight there and back, 4 hours driving, 240 kms all for one cache which doesn’t do much for my carbon footprint does it.

I was much relieved upon opening the container and unfolding the logbook to find that it matched the online finds.

So I went for a pleasant stroll up to GZ after work today to complete the Challenge. 06/20. Cheers and TFTC

This is a favourite area of mine - I would have been a keen participate in the race to find this first, but I was out of town when it was published.

I have four lonely cache finds that qualify. The first was South Coast Views #2 (Wellington). It was within easy walking/running distance of Wellington, but for the ruggedness and remoteness of the terrain it could have been a million miles from civilisation. It was drizzling when I found it, but the views were absolutely incredible. I found it on 13 September 2014, and its previous find was 23 March 2013 - 539 days lonely.

TFTC!

Anzac day caching - found this after a quick walk up from the cemetery.

My qualifying cache is GC21Y2T-Harbour View? which I found on 26th January 2014, and had been unfound for 504 days by the time I got to it.

Found this morning after taking advantage of a break in the rain and a very enjoyable walk up from the Karori cemetery. I managed to find a macro for GSAK (it's called PreviousFind.gsk) that could identify my lonely cache finds and rank them nicely in order for me, this showed that I had 9 caches found with lonely times between 500 and 1000 days. For this cache I'm presenting GC2E1B "Para Para Noia (Tasman)" which is inland from Takaka in the Golden Bay region. It's one of my favourite caches of all time, a 21km walk day through native forest with an ascent of over 1100 metres to get to it and views to die for at the top. It's also a very old cache, it was published in December 2001 and I was only the 10th finder in a bit over 12 years. I found it on 16-Jan-2014 and the previous find was on 08-Mar-2012 giving a "lonely time" of 679 days. Today's cache was an easy find, the coordinates were excellent and I walked straight to it without needing to use the hint. Signed log, thanks for an excellent cache and it's worth a favourite point.

#6430. FTF @ 08:30 and first day find. We found GC33Z4E Firth Towers (Waikato) by mitchlin, (which was previously found on 2013-04-27), on 2014-12-23, after 605 elapsed days. Went for a little walk in Karori before work this morning. Parked in the cemetery, and took the Cemetery Skyline Link. Noted at a couple of junctions that there were other closed tracks along the way. The track soon turned into Skyline Cemetery Link before reaching GZ not long afterwards. The tracks were quiet this morning, seeing only just one other runner bracing the weather this morning. GZ itself was all quiet. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Thanks for the challenge and cache.
