Ouch.Who would think a nice river bed would put up a fight for its cache. Thanks bumandworker
Found with MummyPenny this evening. A bit of a battle with the scratchy thorny stuf but we got there. Looks like something has tried to eat the cache in the past. Thanks bumandworker.
A summertime trip to the South Island, what could be better. Day five, and having flown to Christchurch and then driven to Timaru on day one, and cached around Timaru on day two, and back up to Christchurch to see a band play on day three, and then up to Kaikoura to see the same band play again on day four, it was time to chill out and check out the town. Along the way I'll be looking for Geocaches, and here's one I found. Bone dry here at the moment, due to the million degree temperature days. But that did make it slightly easier to get to where I needed to be, and all good once there. --- Thanks to bumandworker for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues. On our trip thru New Zealand we always look for nice places. We visited the seal colony and on our way back we picked up some caches, this was one of them. The hint makes perfectly sense once arrived at GC.Greetings from team Camperfietser
Avoid the mud people. Its deep and sticky! Cant believe I actually made my way straight to this one./ How did you ever locate this spot?
Need to pick your way across, then fight the scrub. Don't recommend when its wet.

It was a miserable day after alot of rain. Dry spell this afternoon and we are staying at Donegal house in motorhome. Let's go for an adventure to this geocache. Wow what fun and complete wilderness to negotiate. Friendly fantail keeping an eye on us. Found the hint object and the cache. How do you find these amazing spots, it's great fun. Thanks for this cache bumandworker.
Time for a wee family summers holiday; Kaikoura, Picton and Nelson.
A wee detour to grab a cache or two. What a random spot; boys enjoyed the bush bash...and having made the find and sign MrsTG wondered how you ever found this spot in the first place to hide the cache?!

Another road that was closed and is now open and two caches along here to grab. Headed for this one after overshooting the other one and drove down into the river bed for parking. Wandered upstream and eventually bashed our way through to the GZ where the cache was waiting for us. tftc
I had parked my snail shell up in the nearby NZMCA park and zoomed back in my cachemobile as all the parking areas for the caches were a tad small for my complete rig.
Watch out for the blackberry here.
Cheers for the cache.

Somehow this was easy to find today. Wasn't the story last time I tried, some months ago. Going away happy today! TFTC.
Mmmm.... river bed quite muddy but wandered up the road then across. Found with the help of the hint after a bit of bush bashing! TFTC
LEST WE FORGET..

Found with NZDi. We had a long weekend booked for last weekend, but Mrs Kiwimykl (aka NZDi) didn't feel that flash so we postponed it until this weekend. So Friday morning we packed the caravan (including MTBs) and headed south arriving at the campground about 10.45am. After spending yesterday doing the Kawhai Cycle Trail, a few caches south of town and a few around town, todays effort is to the Mt Fyffe Forest Walk and then drive around the area to see how many roadside park and grabs we can get.
Over the two days caching we manage to find 44 caches with only two DNFs, although we did manage to avenge three DNFs from a previous visit. Of the 44 finds, bumandworker was responsible for hiding 28 of them. Our logs were generally dated and signed with Kiwimykl and NZDi or KM + ND, or variations there of.
We spent most of this morning in town trying to find the images for the Kaikoura Town Walk puzzle cache with a negative result. More about that later. That took a big bite out of our caching day for no result, so we decided to cut our loses and head to the Mt Fyffe Forest Walk. Having finished that we then started to pick off a few park and grabs around the district.
This was one which we had driven past before but decided it could wait for another time. That time had come and I took the CO's advice and parked in the river bed, much to NZDi's consternation. Her energy levels were low so she stayed in the car while I headed up the river bed almost 100m to look for the cache. I turned off and climbed the bank where c:geo told me it was prudent to do so and soon came across the hinted feature. It never ceases to amaze me how the CO finds these locations. Just what was he doing to come across this in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!
SL **tm/ww NZ** (may just be a black smudge on wet or plastic logs)
*Quite thick scrub / bush after the scramble, took a bit to find the hint item, but when we did cache was soon in hand.*

I am spending today caching in and around Kaikoura. Finding a bunch of caches, old and new. This is my first visit to Kaikoura since the earthquake and it looks like it's been nearly 10 years since I found any caches here. That's a long time between drinks! The weather was stunning today. Blue skies and warm, my car said it got up to around 20C today. Very warm for the middle of June I think. Anyway, I had a great day so thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining their caches. I nearly did this cache yesterday but decided to leave it. Found myself nearby today so decided to go for it. A fun short walk and (yes) scramble for the last few metres. Cache found as per hint. TFTC, Biggles.
Definitely a scramble, have added a geocache guardian his name is Turts.
We didn't dare park down in the river bed as we are a bit famous for getting our campervan stuck in gravel. So we found a solid road piece of driveway to park on and went for a walk.
We got to the end of the flat part and GK scampered up the bank and disappeared into the scrub.
A very short time later he calls out that he has found it. He signed the log and returned it as he found it.
We do wonder why you were wandering around here when you placed it. You come up with some interesting spots for us to visit.
Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley

Getting a few caches before leaving Kaikoura. Found in the first place I looked
Day3 of our Kaikoura motor caravan rally and time to go visit those caches that I've never had time to visit previously. Back in Dec. 2017 I abandoned my attempt to find this cache as I was somewhat inappropriately dressed for bush bashing. Today, I followed taybeedragon's recent advice on the best way to reach GZ and it worked a charm.[^] I'm glad to have this one out of my Kaikoura unfounds list. TFTC B&W. How did you know that object was there?
Its earth Cache weekend so Im off to Kaikoura to visit the Museum today. Had a great 2 hours there but still early. So time to mop up a few other caches in the area.
Times getting on so Im heading home but enough time to check this one out. Parked Toby up the road a bit to return here. Scrambling all around the place. Finally got to GZ. Dug out the rubble but still no cache. So arranged a replacement here to keep this one rolling along.
I suggest you walk along the gravel ridge on the right hand side for about 30 meters past cache until you see stones going up to the ridge. This gets you into the wilderness without incident, then walk back to here. Cheers

Popped in here on the off chance... but the terrain here was not good for the still slightly dodgy knee. Looks like plenty of excavation work going on too - so a DNF for me today.
Found a less scratchy route to GZ than the direct path, found the hint object, but couldn't find anything in or around it. Will check again next time I'm up this way now I know where it is
Finally made it to Kaikoura after being delayed by an enforced overnight at Parnassus due to a recent slip closing the road just north of Parnassus. After checking in at Donegal House's caravan park it was time to begin some geocaching. This was the first stop as we headed north to check out the surfing spots and geocaches north of Kaikoura. Stopped briefly and walked to 14m of GZ and didn't bother to attempt to get closer. I wasn't protectively dressed for the bush bashing that would be required.
I made a wee detour here after dropping a workmate off at the heliport. I scrambled through the greenery and started my search. I wasn't really sure where to begin and sort of drifted around a bit before I decided to follow the elephant tracks. That's when I spotted the hint object. How'd the CO stumble upon that? A quick grab and sign after that and I was on my way. Tftc.
A bit of scrub crashing to and from this, pretty glad that there was no blackberry! Cheers.
A weekend away in Kaikoura, it's been a while, and it has changed a wee bit since last November.
Thanks to all of the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

Lets do a quick cache on the way home said Miss 10. Ok. Oh bugger - both wearing jandels and bush bashing with some blackberry, not the best combo! Who listens to 10 year olds anyway! Nice little fun one in the evening.
After a bit of bush bashing through broom & bramble we soon had the log signed. TFTC
After an impromptu night stay in Kaikoura, I spent today finding as many caches as I could and doing a bit of exploring, before continuing on to Christchurch. After spotting this cache on the map and seeing it was near a ford, I was eager to give it a go. Disappointed (but not really) to find the area really quite dry. Almost got the car stuck in the loose gravel, so decided I could handle walking just that little bit further . It's uncanny how this CO can sometimes find the most obscure things to put caches in - keeps it interesting, I like that. TFTC (3060)
Quick stop on my way to Blenheim. Signed log and returned as found. Thanks for the cache.
With a few more days of holidays left we decided to head south again and find some caches we didn't have time to look for last week, plus some more off the beaten track. This was one of 51 found today.
Thank you to all CO's who made this possible.
Thank you to all CO's who made this possible.
Our recent multi day Canterbury cache raid was so successful we decided to have another one before the holidays finished. Again we got stabbed, prodded, pricked and scraped by the variety of hedges the region is so famous for. And of course we can now hold our breath a lot longer. A skill well worth developing to avoid breathing in part of the road surface every time a vehicle passes. Just over 200 finds were logged this time and a great time was had finding the caches with a variety of shapes, sizes and placements. A big thank you to all COs who made this possible.
Second day of Chelzea and I doing a weekend cache run through Hanmer to Blenheim through Molesworth Station, an overnight camp and then return along the main highway back to ChCh. A pretty intense weekend with over 120 caches found that most seem to blend together so reluctantly cut and paste logging. Had a great time finding many wonderful caches in a fair few cool spots worthy of the visit. Very few DNF's but will note anything interesting or wrong with individual caches. Thanks to all the cache owners.
I consider ourselves lucky to have found this one as quickly as we did as it could have been a long search.

It's Leap weekend, whatever that is, and a chance for a couple of souvenirs if I manage to achieve certain (easy) caching feats so all is good in the world. A surprise email yesterday from Nelson's K_E asking if I wanted a (mini) road-trip to Kaikoura for a bit of mountain biking and a bit of caching replaced what I had got planned, nothing.
Up and off at 0730 this morning we headed down the road, bikes all aboard for what turned out to be 30 caches each and a thoroughly good days caching, different scenery and a good chat about all sorts of things. Headed steadily towards the Kowhai Cycle/power trail to grab all of those recent placements and enjoy the tracks on the bikes.
After heading along the poorly formed council version of the cycle trail we came and found the proper cycle track, a pleasant cycle back to the car grabbing caches at regular intervals, and even a bonus FTF.
Back caching as a team again and a quick walk up the creek bed before I climbed up to the hide, nicely hidden. Got a bit scratched up and emerged better than the T5 way I went in/down.

A short walk and careful scramble up to gz with capperz today. Eventually he managed to lock on to gz and see the hint object and then the cache.

This was one of the caches we found on our South Island homeward journey from Picton after 3 weeks touring around the North Island in our camper van. Our thanks to the many CO's for the many great caches and placements which diverted us to many great locations. Sorry for the generic log, but so many caches to log. TFTC
Plenty of summer growth on the "scramble". Unfortunately I may have disturbed some in contravention of the sign. [:0]
Took me quite a time to find the hint object but once I got to the right spot it was an easy find.
Last random cache for the day.

A big heap of gravel in the middle of the riverbed at the moment, a scramble around that then up the slope to fine the cache.
[green] At Last I am on my way to the Mega. Two weeks of insane caching in Christchurch. Looking at 7 Badgegen upgrades, a 200+ cache day and, of course, the Mega. But first I have to get there. It took me 9 hours to drive to Christchurch, pretty much what I expected, found 55 caches along the way.
Hey! It's Blenheim! No it's not - there is a difference. In the north island they have water in their streams. In Marlborough they grow Californian poppies in theirs. Here it's just sand. No water, no flowers. Sad.

Was a bit worried till I read the clue and thought that has to help narrow it down and once I saw it all was reveled
Another dry as a bone river bed, would be interesting to see it after a decent rainfall. Another quick find for StreetWalker while I was still scrambling up the gravel bank. TFTC.
#10118. A shorter walk up this river bed, but then GZ was further from the river. I spotted an interesting object in the bush, and once I found a route to it the cache was an easy find. TFTC.
There were Workmen and Earthmoving Machines the other side of the Road, down the Riverbed, but don't think that they took any notice of us, Me&Pedro and the Warbut's hiking up the other way.
Thank goodness their GPS's were on target,as ours decided to play silly beggers, and had us 180ks away!!.Pedro found it and we just signed it.TFTC

The elephant tracks led the way!!! Curious creeks;--perhaps they have very very quick flows during floods. Plenty of bulldozer type activity. Thanks.
My main plan for today was to complete the walks above through the Forest loop but as usual the phone kept ringing and other things needed completing which meant I left the office well over an hour later than intended. As a result it was nearing dark here so too late for me to even start the walk. However this cache is another of those how on earth did you find this place ones. TFTC #6715
Stopped here on the way to Marlborough today. I'm amazed at how people find these artifacts in the middle of nowhere, it wasn't visible until I was within quite a short distance of it. A distinct geotrail helped lead me to it as well. A quick find once at GZ - signed log, TFTC
FTF at 2.05 p.m. We quickly found the hiding place, but it took a while for eyes and glasses to adjust to the dark, before we managed to find the cache. Sorry logbook wrongly dated 20th. TFTC
