Found with Pat and John on a Sunday explore of this very pleasant area. Loved the cache - thank you. It is in good order but it was difficult trying to seal the door to ensure it stayed dry. Did the best I could. TFTC
A lovely area to cache in and a reserve I had never visited before. Had a great walk through the reserve finding a lot of different caches along the way. I loved this cache, very cute. There are some cobwebs inside which was a bit spooky, so didn't really look inside apart from quickly retrieving the logbook. I added a little blue horse to the garden. Adding a favourite point, it's nice to find caches that are unique like this one, and it's in a beautiful location. TFTC
Wow, never seen anything quite like this before. It's great. However it seems Bilbo has let it out for the season to a large tunnelweb spider. He's a bit grumpy though, so I didn't disturb him too much. TFTC.
What an awesome cache. It was lovely to check out Bilbo's home. Another FP from me for this innovative cache. TFTC
Visited Bilbo's holiday home on a damp and muddy day. The cache location was a breath of fresh air! Left my contribution to the ongoing story in the log and admired the detail the COs have put into it. I'd give you more FPs if I could! Thanks for a fantastic cache, jojo&dobby.
Another crazy surprise of a cache - thanks for your efforts! Enjoyed this one, I hope it lasts here Thanks jojo&dobby
That is so cool. Thank you. I will have to have a look at any other caches you have done
I was looking on the geocache map this morning and saw that I had not logged a visit to this cache. I have been up here a few times before and have seen where it is. I still can't figure out why I left this one... But anyway I had a nice walk to GZ and wrote my details in the log book today.
I really like this park and appreciate the caches that are here. I don't think I would have ever have even noticed there were tracks in here without them.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

Super creative cache, really enjoyed finding this one. Spent quite some time admiring the handiwork and looking at the bits and pieces that Bilbo has accumulated in his holiday home. Took 2 TBs with us, getting quite a collection today, think we are picking it all the ones SAROC left! Loved adding to the story in the logbook and no surprise that we are adding to the FP count too. "Bilbo It's time for another adventure, put on some bacon so we can have second breakfast and decide where we should go, I think we should start by......"
.... putting our feet up and just enjoying the wind in the trees while we wait for the bacon to be just right. You know it's so lovely here in your crib, in such a wonderful bush, that its just an adventure being here.
Came around the knoll to see the cache and it brought a neat smile to the face. This is one of the best geocaches around, nicely themed and put together. It was definitely the highlight of the walk in the bush.
Thanks for being so creative and making the game so enjoyable. FP easily given.

With a group of fellow west Aucklanders Merlot58, Aiden29 and Bertie Blowfish To attend the MEGA and for a fun long Labour weekend’s caching. Thanks to all the cache owners for setting up and maintaining the caches. Sorry for cut and paste logs. Such a cool cache. Well deserving of a fp
I think we should start by having a strong coffee!I’m in the Windy City to attend the Wellington Mega with a few fellow Westies from Auckland. We’re having a great time as we explore the area collecting smileys as we go. Thanks for bringing us here, sorry for the copy and paste logs but am using a Cachly template to log as I go.
Loved this cache and the. Effort you put in to creating it. FP from me

Down in the Capital for an extra long weekend before exams start, with Jag50, Merlot58 & Bertie Blowfish. We were staying just down the road and thought this would be a good brisk walk for the morning to warm up. Didn't quite realise how many steps there would be. Located Bilbo's retreat and stopped by for some tea. Well constructed and fav cache.
Took way longer to find this than it should of! When we eventually spotted it, we had a "how on earth did we miss that!" moment. Very cool. Well done.
Somehow, contrary to the hint, we DID miss it by circumnavigating gz. It made the eventual find all the more rewarding. What an awesome cache! A definite favourite! Took a photo to show the family. Very cool . Tftc
After MEGA registration, a morning walk in the Forest and Bird Ecclesfield Reserve and Wi Tako scenic reserve. Gorgeous beech forest, a lovely track and delightful caches - a highlight of our visit. This one is not far off the track but obviously anyone who finds it knows not to disturb a sleeping hobbit. Even my non-caching friends were impressed by the photos!
In Wellington for WENZ 2018 Mega Event. Short entry .... Hats off... Instant FP! Thanks!
Just the sort of fairy tale forest where you would expect to find elves if not hobbits. FP
Easy to see why this cache has so many favourites - and I'll add one to the collection as well. Lovely walk, quick find, great cache.
Oh my gosh!! What a great cache!! My husband even took photos. Such a novel idea, lots of fun and makes Geocaching even more enjoyable TFTC
What a great cache - thanks for setting it up. And in such a lovely beech forest too. Well worth a FP.
Thanks enjoying the finds. Good the trees have marks easy to follow on the way back out.
Bilbo smiled as he spotted the beautiful beech trees and moss-lined path. He knew home must be near. After a long journey from the Silver Streame, through mud and up steep hills, he couldn't wait to get home and eat third breakfast. As he approached, he noticed that his front door was ajar. "Hmmm...must have some visitors", he thought. Sure enough, his house was chock-full of trolls and their treasure! He even spied a spider hidden in the corner. "I must get that door fixed....there's a nasty draft..." Bilbo muttered to himself as he closed the door and fared his visitors well.

I'm stuck in Trentham for three days and two nights doing some training with the NZDF and nothing to do in the evenings... apart from some geocaching. By the time I had finished dinner, darkness had well and truly set in, so what was I to do... apart from geocaching. So after getting changed into some appropriate attire and grabbing a torch and a couple of GPS enabled devices, I headed into the hills behind Trentham and Silverstream for some night time caching. Boy that darkness certainly adds an extra dimension when you are caching in the bush.
I headed out at 6.30pm (or 1830 hours as it is known around here) Starting near the Rimutaka prison and came off the track three hours later in Silvestream. In that time I managed to get eight caches in the bush and another two urban caches, totalling ten in all with only one DNF.
After having supper at Maccas, I then took the short train trip back to camp returning just before 2300 hours, all-in-all a pleasant and sometimes terrifying way to spend an evening, especially when getting disorientated trying to find the trail after grabbing those off-track caches in the dark.
It didn't take too long to find the cache here. It is amazing how artificial light at night picks up things that natural light during the day doesn't, and this was the case with most of the finds I made tonight.
Upon discovering this cache I initially thought it hadn't been returned properly, but I soon realised this was where it was supposed to be, although I'm not sure about the security of the front door of Bilbo's holiday home, it might need some maintenance.
It also didn't take long to discover where the log was hidden. The only thing that did take long was getting back to the track in the dark as I had lost my bearings and for what seemed ages, I was in a state of mild panic that I was lost in the park, in the dark. Then I realised I had a couple of GPS devices and soon found my way back to the track.
Another FP for this creative cache.

Again, another favourite in the TeamBridgen household- the kids loved this one too. Very cute.
THE STORY BEGINS...
Bilbo It's time for another adventure, put on some bacon so we can have second breakfast and decide where we should go, I think we should start by...... packing up the car with all our walking gear and then buckling in all the kids, ready for another adventure. We all love a good adventure" - said young Frodo, "so lets head off and see where the day takes us!"
Bilbo lept from his chair, dreaming of days of past- with trolls and orcs and mysterious rings "What a fine idea Frodo, I shall grab my stick at once! And that was the start of the new adventure.
The car was ready and they set off, Kids excited for the new geocach finds they were about to embark upon. It was a fine and mild day with energy levels high, and mountains of snacks to keep the momentum going. With every step, they progressed higher and higher into the hills, grabbing cache after cache, distance upon distance. Toadstools were spotted, views were gazed upon, an amazing pirate ship was discovered, as well as BBQ'for toasting glorious foods and left over feathers from a savage hunt- imagination was an incredible tool for the day and the family bonds within created laughter and fun as gradually they came back down the hillside, another adventure done and dusted. Who knew you could find a pirate ship in the middle of the Silverstream bush!

Risked life and limb in the pursuit of this cache, ignoring the track closed with danger signs and with wreckless abandon I continued up the track. Well worth the risk though when I came across this well constructed hide. Another FP from me.

Very cool cache, nice and easy find while out walking with family. Earns a favourite point from me.
Well this was a DNF for us. The initial problem was the elusive Ecclesfield Reserve, after driving round and round for 20 minutes we ended up at Pinehaven reserve and sought a cache there instead. Then we stopped for There's Nothing Better. On our way to Shortcut I spotted an entry to Ecclesfield Reserve out of the corner of my eye and manouevered a swift u-turn.
The next dilemna ensued...trying to work out which track to follow (we ended up selecting Rangi's track) and then finding it poorly signposted we went around in circles so being short on time we had to give up the search none the wiser as to how to reach this and other caches in this reserve.
Highly recommend a map of the reserves tracks, downloadable from the Upper Hutt council and loading the caches to a GPS unit. Good luck to future seekers TFTC we will attempt this another day when better equipped and with more time to spare.
FYI very up and down bush walk scattered with painted rocks

Most fave cache ever. What a great series. Glad I got to bump into you - wish I had seen these first as I would have loved to say how much I enjoyed these. Our little man (16m) adored exploring the hide-away. We placed some treasures and some toys inside!
A bit of a challenge to find at 130am but finally got there! To future finders don't forget to carry on the story!
Out for a walk with tramping club ramblers.
Easy find. And great hide - entertained the muggles with us.

"but being Wellington in the spring, it looked like there was a strong southerly on the horizon. They should just have time to....."
A well made cache, I remember finding another one the same on the way to Wanganui a while back. Cheers and TFTC
I was in the area for the weekend and the nearby trail was on my radar as I needed some different D/T ratings to complete a challenge.
I kind of guessed what i was looking for but was presently surprised when I rounded the knoll. It's so easy to spot once you're a few meters of the track. Awesome looking cache, it could be a haven for spiders and other crawly things but that doesn't bother me.
Thanks for the cache and the smiley.

Had to laugh out loud when I saw this. That's some imagination right there. Definately gets a FP. TFTC.
Can't stand the LOTR movies (fell asleep in the first one and couldn't face seeing the others) but the cache itself was pretty cool and made us smile so gets a FP.
Cycled up from Melling with an overcast and threatening sky. We had not visited Ecclesfield Reserve previously and what a joy it is. Wonderful beech trees and regenerating rimu. While not being greatly impressed with all the Hobbit hype we did enjoy this cache. As mentioned for the nearby caches it its a shame that they are not found more frequently. Really clever. TFTC
Cache # 3,291 - Another fantastic cache - in fact one of my all-time favourites. Would award it multiple favourite points if I could. A great day! And to top it off we were greeted by several paekakarikis in the nearby tree.

A whistle stop tour of the North Island on a work trip with a ferry sailing in, an afternoon on the ground, overnight nearby followed by an hour of caching Tuesday arvo, then a ferry back to the Mainland in the evening. So a plan was hatched, the maps were checked and a likely looking route was mapped out to head up into the 'hills' overlooking Silverstream and walk a loop of geocaches! Had pre-solved a couple of Puzzle caches prior (with some assistance in some cases), though in the end only managed to find one of the tickets please ones. A combination of poor looking, not-thereness, and dodgy solutions had me missing out on a few. Still easily managed to grab around 20 caches, with some absolute pearlers up on the ridge well deserving of some of my F Ps. Thanks to all the C O s who placed.
I'm a great fan of Tolkien and have found a few Bilbo/Hobbit caches over the last couple of years since L O T R films, then The Hobbit trilogy, and am glad to see another decently thought out hide. Great hide and replaced as found. No smoke in the chimney today, I guess no one at home then.

Wow, another amazing-looking cache! Thanks jojo&dobby, must've taken hours. Note door is broken in half and propped closed with stick.
Bilbo would have been warm and dry when the rain arrived later in the day. He had broken his door and was using some sticks to keep it closed.

...... No old chap, ot is not a flying ford anglia approaching. I suspect you have been eating far too many of those lovely coloured mushrooms. The flying thing approaching is one of new crazy........
************************************
I was surprised at how few recent cachers had played the game and added to the story. I had to look back as far as November 2015 - six months back to find some story to add to.
Anyhow...... I have become accustomed to very creative caches b this CO. Regrettably I have now found them all - I do hope that jojo&dobby can find time to place another great cache.
The front door was broken, held of by a Y shaped stick. Isaw some velcro but couldnt see where that needed to be connected. The inners are dry, the logbook has plenty of space
I dropped a Penguin TB for further travels.
Thanks CO. Really enjoyed my night time walk in the rain and dark under torchlight. I only slipped down one of the wet clay slopes on my return journey
This cache gets a Favourite Point. Can't wait for the next one to be placed and published.

TFTC I went for a walk from here through Witako Reserve to Ecclesfield reserve. Quite a challenge for my old knees.I did enjoy the walk and the caches on the way.
Completing a hike circuit near home. A nice fun find and well done cache in the bush. TFTC
Had to think for about 10 seconds and dig into the memory banks, log signed. Enjoyed the walk and the effort of the cache creation.
While having a walk through the reserve the respectable thing to do was to call on Bilbo's holiday home. But alas I was too late for a second breakfast of bacon and I think he must of started out on an early wandering as there was no sign of Bilbo or any of his elves. Bilbo's holiday home is a master of construction and well worth a visit. Signed and left as found also left Key TB 1AH90W for the next visitor to move on.
... cast a spell to erase their memories. Hagrid says he learnt such a spell of a young friend called Harry. Is that a flying Ford Anglia approaching? ...

This was another enjoyable cache find although it did take me longer than expected for a cache that "couldn't be missed".

Another great cache! Really enjoying the walk as well, such different scenery from usual TFTC +FP

Bilbo was finding these adventures very stressful, there was only one thing for it back to the retreat for a nice cuppa and maybe invite a friend over. And so it was he headed back to the retreat and in transit txted his dear friend Hagrig to come over, after all Hagrid hadn't seen his little hobbit retreat. They could sit and exchange adventures and drink tea!
Loved it, just like the one at Hobbiton.
Loved it, just like the one at Hobbiton.
What, Muggles! cried Bilbo.
I'm afraid so said Hagrid.
But I was sure we would be safe in Ecclesfield. What ever they do in the Beehive and its West Wing - surely we'll be safe here?
Hagrid was less sure. His head lowered as he pondered Bilbo's words before he pronounced . . .

Great fun! Not the first of these I've had the pleasure to find and log, but they're always great fun, and this was no exception. Had painted myself into a bit of a corner for having to go find this cache on a morning that began with torrential rain at home . I knew the exact route I needed to take as I've been up here a few times over the last year or so - pulled my boots and jacket on and headed for the hills. By the time I got there the rain had stopped and temperatures were reasonably mild, While slippery the trail was great fun, and I was travelling along at a good rate. Arrived approximate GZ and quickly spotted the cache location. And just as equally quickly had the logbook to hand. Really enjoyed the cache hunt, but even more reading the combined previous logs. Many thanks for this clever addition to the local caches JoJo - gets a fav point from me.
{just a note that the last one of these I logged I was a bit late to log, and another cacher had found it and added their log, so I had to carefully word my own to fit between the preceding AND following logs!!! Now THAT was an interesting challenge!}

{just a note that the last one of these I logged I was a bit late to log, and another cacher had found it and added their log, so I had to carefully word my own to fit between the preceding AND following logs!!! Now THAT was an interesting challenge!}

Very cool. My Little chicks loved this. Emptied out water in tin. Log dry. Left tb in chest. Another fav point.
#1085. FWF. Headed up to Witako Reserve today specifically to find this cache. Headed off the track and soon spied a creative hiding spot. What a great cache set-up. The kids loved it. Both had a good look over it and soon found the hidden logbook. The log is still dry. A lovely setting for Bilbo and his friends in the mixed beech forests of Middle Earth.
"Indeed the skies of Middle Earth were growing very dark and an ominous silence had fallen across the land. From high in the black tower, cold grey hands were stroking a palantir searching out hobbits and their companions. The all seeing eye had spied their movements in the forest below and knew that deep in the cave was a creature of the ancient world, a dark wraith lacking a soul and driven by the pure evil force that dwelt in the black tower. Closer and closer it crept to our heroes as they tossed and turned in a fitful sleep inside the cave..."

"...soon the hobbits' sleep turned to waking horror, as they became all too aware of the slurping, gulping, squelching noise of the approaching...."

Sunday trip up the valley. Our eye on a series of caches in and around Silverstream and environs.
Tip toed our way around GSEL clan as we encountered them at an earlier stage on the track. But later we met up and there were geocaching introductions. Alway good to meet geocachers in the field.
Now here was the highlight of the day. A hobbit hole in all its glory.
We thought Jack's place was pretty damn fine, but the hobbit home outshone everything else we encountered today.
The cache was a straightforward find, working out access to the log a little trickier though. All in order; log signed, then re-hidden safely, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

...The weather was getting worst as the night eased in, the journey was starting to take a dramatic change there was a storm coming from the South, times were starting to change and Bilbo's life was going to change as well, strange things were starting to happen out there, things beyond their weirdness dreams, a twin tower hard appeared in the South...

Managed to finally get out to Silverstream to have a look at this latest cache that JoJo and Dobby had put out and knew that it was going to be up to her usual standards, very high,[^][^].
Decided to go for this cache as per usual route via Eccelsfield Reserve, arrived at the usual parking area, having now being here a few times I kind of knew where to park so it wasnt going to hard to find the correct tracks to take.
Making my way on to the track heading to the cache was quite surprise how good the track was, but this was quite short lived as soon as I got on to the track going to Wikato Scenic Reseve the track was a lot slipper than I thought it was going to be and I had to slow my progress down as I really didnt want top break a limb. Slipping and sliding my way around the track I finally managed to make my way to the more level part of track and was able to get better footing here and managed to increase my speed back to my normal walking speed.
Arriving near GZ, I soon realised that I managed to over shot the path that lead to GZ without realising and had to do a bit of a back track, as I was nearing GZ I soon spotted another very cleverly design cache by JoJo and Dobby, very well done indeed. Managed to find the logbook in th most unexpected spot, very clever indeed as I initially checked the most obvious spot to find that no-one was home , kind of made sense when you really think about it literally.
Signed and returned the cache as found, and then it was time to make my way back the way I came, hopefully I will get back to the car without falling over [8)]. Thanks for placing another clever cache out there and for bring me back to this lovely spot, TFTC TNLNSL (9470), well a fravourite point for another well deserving cache.

"After another hour or so of walking in good weather and a pleasant stop for lunch, they entered a more heavily forested area with higher hills up ahead, so they knew they were going to have to do some climbing shortly. However as they were walking they heard the rumble of thunder in the distance, and the skies started getting greyer by the minute. "I know a cave ahead where we can shelter" said Legolas. Even though it was a bit off the path, they both agreed that it would be a good idea to head for it, so they quickened their pace with lightning flashes and thunderclaps becoming ever more frequent. They arrived at the cave without incident but only in the nick of time - as they entered the skies opened up with torrential rain, and the thunder and lightning were almost continuous. It was a very deep cave and the two companions stayed close to the entrance to keep out of the rain. "I hope it's safe in here and there's nothing evil further in" said Bilbo. "I hope so too" said Legolas. However their peace was short-lived."

Came for a walk this afternoon to find this one. Met up with Infoferret along the way (nice to catch up, second time in two weeks!) but headed on past while they stopped to find the "Dicky Birds" cache. No problems finding this cache, and another really great imaginative Jojo creation. Well done! Signed log, TFTC and another favourite point goes
