After this morning's CITO, I teamed up with McLookers to finally finish the BSRT series. During each visit to Ballarat environs, I took the opportunity to walk more of the trail and slowly reduce the numbers left. We also grabbed a few other caches nearby. When we found this one, the container was missing a top and bottom, but the log was dry (somehow). Thanks to GemmaSistema for the cache.

20-Dec-23
A few spare days to fill before Christmas so I made the decision to hit the road and go on a road trip from Adelaide to Ballarat. The main purpose of the trip is to tackle the Ballarat Geo Tour before they get archived in February 2024. Day four was spent in the heart of Ballarat tackling some caches and Adventure Labs on the main drag. Then to onto the Eastern side of the lake. In the afternoon I went for an excursion out to Skipton to bag a new LGA. Sadly no time to complete the trail but managed to get three done on foot. Ill have to return with my bike to finish off the trail. Thanks for the cache GemmaSistema.# # SmileSmile #13855 SmileSmile # #

After leaving Rutherglen and attending a wedding in Taradale we headed across to the 'rat to spend some time before Lady Morris had her mouth surgery.

We camped at Smythesdale and today we jumped on the bikes to head towards Linton and put a bit of a dent in that stretch of caches.

We did manage to get there - approx 40 kms of riding that is going to hurt tomorrow. I think that leaves us with about 4 left to find including one DNF today.
Thanks for contributing to the fun GemmaSistema

22-Mar-23
Another day out on the rail trail, this time from the Linton end. A foggy start to the day however that was mostly cleared by the time I hopped on the bike. A couple of DNF's again, but all up a good day with a few good finds.

Thanks again GS....all good here.

Staying in Linton for a wedding tomorrow near Beaufort and is too hot being 38 degrees for a bike ride we set off to do vehicle access caches on the BSRT and tomorrow when the weather is cooler do the others between Linton and Nimmons Bridge.
This one was a bit cheeky and we'll camoflaged. Tftc

A short wander along the BSRT to find another cache by GemmaSistema. Cache container is rusty but still holding the log sheet safely. SL at 2.33pm. Back to the GeoCruiser to start the AdLab now. Thanks for the leg stretch.

Found while on a trip to Ballarat and beyond from Adelaide. The monkey was invited to the GF by her goal umpire brother who flew over. Her tix were going to be in excess of $800 so i offered to drive her over. As things do with 19yo, the car filled up with excited friends along for the ride. Hoping to grab a heap of LGAs, virtuals and letterboxes for challenges I’m working on.

Gave up on the nearest to car nano and headed here. Stayed dry footed on the way to gz but not so smart on the way back. Yea it’s rusted out but bag and log is dry. Signed as SMM on pencil.

Thank you for placing this for us to find. Thank you for contributing to the geo map and maintaining when required. TFTC

On a road trip to Portland, picking up random caches along the way. We made a quick stop in Linton on this beautiful morning to find this cache. Unfortunately the container has seen better days, however, the logbook was ok.

Thanks GemmaSistema for the opportunity to explore part of this area. We need to return to complete the Rail-trail.

When I got to this cache the little drain near the post had a bit of water in it. I looked for a way to get across, deciding if it was worth potentially getting my feet wet. It was. The area was beautiful and while I spent ages looking here I couldn’t find the cache. I’m sure there are plenty of pipes and things under all the pine needles and leaves but everything was so wet. I realised how sheltered it is here under all the trees when I looked up and it was raining quite heavily. I was hardly getting wet. I decided to call it a DNF and headed back to the car, enjoying my walk back in the rain. Linton will have to await a little longer. I shall return.

Big weekend done, time to go home. That's not to say we need to *rush* home, of course.
Although I was technically meant to be zipping off, a quick run down the path wasn't *too* out-of-line...
Thanks heaps for the cache, GemmaSistema!

Day #13 of the Birthday Bush Bonanza. I arrived in at Smythesdale late last night, rolled out the swag and settled in for a well earned rest. The plan today is for a slow journey back to Melbourne. The series of challenge caches and maybe some rail trail is all that is on the list so far.

The cache blends in well with its host. A quick find at GZ.

Thanks GemmaSistema for the cache and for contributing to the game.

A freedom day (at last) to enjoy some sunshine. Been wanting to finish the Linton section of this trail for a long time so with looking for an excuse to take the new e- bike out for a spin, today was the day.
Me thinks the irony of a rusty tin camouflaged inside a rusty pipe might have been lost on some recent finders. Don't worry GemmaS, the container is perfect for the spot. In fact, I'll give it a fave point! Log still in good condition too. Had a great day out here today, appreciate all your hides, thx for the fun!

It was a perfect morning for getting on a bike and Geocaching on the Ballarat Skipton Rail Trail. Ausfox; and Mr Dromaniax set off to turn as many dots into smileys as possible. There was barely a breeze and only a few clouds making riding really enjoyable. The Trail itself is in fantastic condition with a well-compacted surface making the riding pretty easy. The hint is a great hint. It is just a matter of which pipe. The white post is a beacon. The cache was in great condition. Thank you for this cache GemmaSistema.

13-Jun-21
Out riding the BSRT with Dromaniax on a prefect winters day, locating all hides along the way.
We came in two cars leaving them at each end of the section we completed today.
The cache container is slowly vanishing like it’s hide , but the Log is dry.
Log signed and replaced as found.

Thanks for the Traditional Cache GemmaSistema

While sending my way slowly towards a weekend of caching around Avoca, I had time to find quite a few caches and this rail trail was very tempting. I was able to drive to many of them and those that were a bit further from the road I either hiked or got out my trusty scooter and scooted my way along. The weather was ideal for this activity and I found all the caches as I progressed along the line. I will have to come back sometime to find more. Enjoyed the thought and variety of the hides. Thanks for the series GemmaSistema

Today I thought I would cycle towards skipping to grab the smilies that I haven’t gotten yet. The smilies I needed were in linton, but with my great navigational skills I ended up near skipton. No where near where the ones I needed were so had to back track a few km to get the ones I needed. Great day for a ride today, no wind but was starting to get a bit hot. I nearly have all the ones along the trail now.

On a road trip to Western Victoria, picking up random caches as we check out the area. This was day 14 of the 16 day trip and we are now camping at Clarkesdale Bird Sanctuary. Today we ventured up to the local town for a look and ended up picking up a couple of nearby caches while we were there. After completing the nearby BSRT - Lovely Linton we took the short walk here. It took us a little longer than it should have but Mr Pooky eventually made the find. The container certainly blended in with the surroundings TFTC and bringing us to this walking track.

TFTC. We had been to the nearby Mt Bute to search for the new traditional placed there recently. We decided to stop in Linton to attempt some of the BSRT. We were walking so only managed the caches that were close to a road intersection or a reasonably short walk.
I thought the hide here matched the surrounds very well. Lid was not joined to the container but everything was still functional.

Oh well that was quite eventful. Found it, but that was the first call I’ve ever had with a prosthetic leg. Cut myself on my left wrist when I landed. Going down isn’t the issue, it’s getting back up with a prosthetic leg. Had great difficulty but with Mrs Iamapom’s assistance I was able to clamber up the white post. Has I been by myself I would have had to call 000.
Oh yeah thanks for the cache

Found by iamapom at 15:14 on 28/9/19. Thanks to GemmaSistema for the Traditional. This is Iamapom’s find number 2466. Greetings from Melbourne Australia.

We both happened to have a rostered day off together today, so we got up at stupid o'clock this morning so that we would be arriving at five newly published caches along the Skipton section of the rail trail just as it was getting light. It was forecast to be very very hot today and it turned out to be the best decision as it was just beautiful being out here at this time. After finding the new caches, we turned out sights to this section of the trail that we hadn't explored yet. Found a few along here before heading back to Beaufort for brunch. Found this one with little trouble. TFTC GemmaSistema

Our apologies for the generic logs, they do not mean that we think any less of the caches or the placement of them.
We have decided to camp here at Smythesdale for a few days and go cache hunting in the area plus head into Ballarat to have a look around. We enjoyed the walk along the trail, we met with an interesting man walking two dogs who told us that about 100 meters ahead a snake had had a go at his dog. He also mentioned that the trail is known for there being quite a few snakes along it, so we picked up a nice sized stick to hopefully protect ourselves if needed and there was no need we did not see any snakes. All caches that we found today are in condition but one which we have put a maintenance log on. SL TFTC

*14 Jul 2018, Found @ 11:52 am, Find # 8080.*

After another early morning mission, it was now time to meet up with Jacko83 so the we could tackle the BSRT from Scarsdale to Linton.
It turned out to be a great day for a ride but boy it was an icy start on the trail.
We had now arrived at the end but had to wait for a couple of bike riders to clear off so we went and packed our bikes and stuff away into the car, eventually they left and we were able to have a look for this one, eventually it was found.

**Thanks to GemmaSistema for placing this cache.**

Whilst the plan was to arrive in Ballarat much earlier than the CITO and find a goodly number I arrived a little later than was ideal. That didn't stop I, BoatieTim and AlphaDeltaIndigo from visiting a section of the BSRT and finding a few caches before the CITO.
Thanks to the COs for placing and maintaining these caches and drawing the attention of the community to this lovely rail trail. I thought the proximity of the picnic facilities near the car park was really designed to encourage families of walkers and cyclists to use the rail. A very nice touch by those responsible for creating the trail in the first place.

Found It.......On the last day of holidays it was decided to head up this way and pick up some more caches. After tea it was decided to head home this way to pick up a few more caches. Once we pulled up at GZ the rain started and the wind blew even harder and with only a small torch i set to trying to find the container but after a couple of minutes i had success. So with the rain pelting we signed the log and headed for home. ThanksGemmasistema for the cache

Have pedaled this path before in company with various family members most of whom didn't or don't cache so only got a fraction of the caches at the time. This time we were serious. Thus begins our treck!

It has been ages since we (BettyBoo3747 and I) came to Ballarat and completed the BSRT. Since then it has grown somewhat, but we hadn't returned. This weekend we have teamed up with Chewin (Howard from Howjen567) to correct this oversight.
We started with a DNF at Linton, but after that our luck improved and we collected most of the caches available.
A love ride along the tree lined route. We managed to avoided the weather until the very last cache, and even then only got a bit damp.
Thanks, Robmc.

24-Feb-18
#14000. Our first full day of caching in the area. We met Howard of Howjen567 at Smythesdale and headed to Linton to ride the BSRT back to Smythesdale. We picked up a neat 50 on the trail with 2 DNF's. We logged our first find at 9.30am and the last find at 12.50pm. The weather was perfect for riding and we managed to stay ahead of the rain until about the last 500 metres into Smythesdale. The temperature also plummeted to a chilly 17 degrees in a matter of minutes.

It was an absolutely fantastic ride and the first find of the morning brought my total cache finds to 14,000 so that was a great start to the day. It is a pity it wasn't the one at the start of the trail at the station but alas that seems to be missing in action with a string of DNF's to its name.

Whoo Hoo - 14,000 finds. Happy dance time and a pretty part of the trail to start our day. I just know we are going to have a good ride today, especially as we will be mostly riding gently downhill.

Thanks GemmaSistema
