Theres an ancient proverb from around these parts that goes something like: Where you find train tracks, youll find Tankengine. Or, at least, there bloody well should be! Originally, I started to make my way up the mountain today with the gameplan of pursuing a multi further up the path and leaving all the trads for another day. It wasnt until I got to the paths junction nearby and discovered the train tracks that I thought the aforementioned proverb to myself and opened up the app to check. Lo and behold, there was one right there. I like the high track its on, and a look in a likely spot made it a quick find.Tracing along the train tracks on the map, I see that its hardly the only one hes left for me to find - to be honest, I never even knew there was an old railway station out this way. Thankfully Im dog sitting nearby and will have heaps of time to come exploring out here Thanks for the cache!!
Found on my walk on these old train tracks after tracking down some ftfs. I planned to get this cache on my way back after a long exhausting walk along these tracks and was very disheartened when I realised it was up there - The hint of ground level is very taunting. I thought, surely there is a track up there, and sure enough there was! Always a bonus to pick up a pathtag as well! Thank you Tankengine for this great adventure along these tracks!
I stopped on the track when I was adjacent to GZ.I looked to my right and saw what was between me and the geocache.I actually said out loud, to myself, "Yeah, nope".If I'd had a headlamp torch on me, I might have considered it.But discretion is the better part of valour; this one can wait until daylight. It looks like a great adventure! I look forward to it
Ill take the high road, and you take the low road, and Ill be . at the cache afore yeTried along the tracks and found that didnt work - so went up to see the old Tuggeranong Railway Siding, then came to this along the high road.
I happened to be in the area and this cache was only a short detour on the way back to the car.
I am glad I had a look at the satellite map before going too far along the tracks and found the trail up to this gorgeous view.

Going for a walk of the railway line today and figured some caching was in order. TFTC
Out with Tankengine and Aquilus1 to do a little cache maintenance and pick up a few unfound caches and place a couple too.
We used two cars at either end and walked about 10 or so kms from the paintball end to the last cache. It was a long, hot, hard walk and I felt it by the end.
But it was also lovely and interesting and I think this section would make a great rail trail one day.
This cache: Nice quick find and replaced the log sheet. Tftc!!!

Out with dty73 and Tankengine for a walk out along the tracks. Beautiful day to be out and loved the paraphernalia spotted as we walked along. The flat terrain along the tracks was a relief from the hills we walked to get up to them... clearly my Christmas break was less than active!
Lovely scenery along the way helped distract that the walking became more challenging the further we walked along the tracks. Although not the hottest of days it warmed up, and the stones underfoot slowed things up a little.
The last two culvert caches added to the fun, challenging to scramble down to with the moving sliding rocks on the slope, add in a few barbs, nettles and thorns and the DT was well earnt!
Relief to turn off the tracks and head across the reserves under the shade of the trees, so many butterflies and dragonflies everywhere. Fantastic day out and a great place to walk, although I was so pleased to have crawled under that last fence and be back to the car! Thanks for the cache and the day.
So much up to this point but shady and still cool too not be so bad. Followed the track up from the tracks and rewarded with nice views.

I was out on the disused railway with a work colleague (working on the proposed rail trail). He walked on while I made the climb up to the top. Magnificent view. Thanks for placing a cache here Tankengine.
There has been plenty of rain recently, and it made some of the creek crossings in the first part of the days walk a challenge. The day was a group of Sol de Lune, Smitten Granny, Joolay, Barb2e and Kitty Katch. Our aim were the puzzles south of the Paintball and the Tankengine caches along the railway line. It was a very successful day with some difficult puzzles and some difficult terrain. All in all a great day.
Thanks for the cache Tankengine

Last cache for the day and nice to get a view of the storm clouds still circling us - glad to have avoided the rain today. Found on a walk with the Capital Crunchers. Logbook is full
Thanks for hiding this cache Tankengine

Quick find and all good with cache. Fav point for the wonderful views from up here. I am so tired and my feet are killing me but worth the walk up.
Another adventure out and about with Albida33, Kittykatch, SoldeLune, Smittengranny and Barb2e.
Thanks For getting me out and about Tankengine

Out with a group today to collect some puzzles we have solved. A bit of water to negotiate and a lot of track to walk. Tftc
After all the rain we had during the week, I wasn't sure if Capital Crunchers would be able to get out for our planned walk today, but we made it!
And we have made it to the end of our plan for the day. Crazily sore feet and back but a great sense of achievement. Thanks for the find Albida and the cache TE.

Found with geo-hack @1355. I went the hard way - up the rock face from the railway line. But it appears there's a track that's more gentle. Yes, good views to the west.
I clambered up to the wrong spot, whereas GH Junior went to the right area. It was fun all the same
As per usual, made things a lot more difficult for myself than needed. Cache was where it was always likely to be.
Lovely views. TFTC!

Had the afternoon to myself so headed off for what had originally planned to be a fairly short sojourn. But as it transpired, I was having fun, the weather was holding, and although I did have things to do I was completely prepared to not do them. I was pleased (or worried - not sure which) that on approach I chose the easiest and quickest route to GZ. This is mostly worrying because it is uncommon. Quick find once I was there and noted that the log is pretty full, but just enough space on the edges for a few more.
Headed out for a bit of a wander along the disused railway line in the vicinity of Old Tuggeranong Road today, aiming to collect a few caches. In the end I went much further than I had originally intended and ended up returning in the dark!
This was my first find for the day. I initially found myself at the wrong altitude but once that was corrected I soon had the cache in hand.

Bit rusty on the uneven terrain and climbing up inclines, it’s nice to be rewarded with a find, and a beautiful view. Was interesting to see all the bike trails and ramps on the way up. TFTC.
A nice afternoon walk with an added quick climb up here to grab the cache. Fantastic views from here, thanks for getting us up it Tankengine!
Out for a walk to regain fitness after knee replacement surgery. Hard work but rewarding.

What great views from here. Out for a day of geocaching exercise with MRS jmanjezza away from people.
I took a little walk on Sunday morning, finding another hill I've never walked before. I love the scenery the old railway makes here.
Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for the cache!
For my late-afternoon constitutional I sought out several of the geocaches on and around Melrose Hill in a three hour, 10.1km walk from Henry Melville Crescent in Gilmore. I found 12 out of the 13 geocaches on my list. This cache was a straightforward find, being in an obvious spot on the coordinates, and the view over Tuggeranong is indeed a good one. Thank you Tankengine for installing and maintaining this cache.
Didnt have my caching eyes on for this one. Had a quick look around, but conscious of time, I had to leave without the find.
Enjoyed the views though

Nice quick find by the geokids while out for a walk. Such an interesting place to explore. Thanks for bringing us out this way.
TFTC - a great day for a great walk along a single trail and great view too. With Darkmadviking, training before our hiking holiday to Nepal in Nov & Dec 2018.
Late log apologies - catching up from last year.

Walked across from the mine to this one. Luckily I didn't have to descent too far to find the cache. Yes, nice views.
Thanks,

Out with Marmaduke Rothschild and Betty Rothschild for a couple of hour's caching fix. We had an objective in mind but after failing to find it, had to be satisfied with some other nearby caches. Great view from here. TFTC.
Like StrangeTrousers, I was also at the wrong altitude on approach to this cache. I am enjoying walking along the train tracks too much and don't really care for the path! However this didn't stop me, I guess I changed this cache from a T3 to a T3.5!
I climbed straight up the cutting only 13m from the cache below. Wasn't too hard, but wouldn't want to climb down... climbing up is always much easier....
A quick find at the obvious object and signed the logs before continuing on!
Thanks Tankengine

#3955 5th for today
My new Garmin Oregon 750t has arrived and I was keen to take it out for a spin, in particular to try out some of the new functionality. I used the GCLive feature to load caches in the field, and took a few pics. So I was down at the bottom of Hume to grab a few along the rail trail. There were a few storms threatening and I did get a bit wet, but it was pleasant enough.
I missed this one on the way in as I was at the wrong altitude. Grabbed this one before heading over to the "mine" which is actually a quarry.
Thanks to the COs: Tankengine

The views.... breathtaking. For such a narrow and scratchy track, it offered some of the best views I have seen over this small scetion of Canberra.
Glad I sussed out the correct path to take from Tuggeranong Trains, I almost followed the railway line

A decent hike up with a quick find at GZ. Seems there's a little white dog that has been reported wondering around up here, people now out to try and recapture. The cage left set up and left nearby the crossing seems legit, as on my return from a few more finds, bumped into another guy who confirmed the story. He was also up here with his dog, looking for said missing dog. Busy afternoon for dogs...and caching. TNLNSL TFTC

I managed to bribe my youngest son to come for a bike ride with me, to collect the caches along the old railway line. We parked close to Quincunx and cached our way south to Melrose High, before enjoying the non-stop ride back again. We stopped at the closest point, on the opposite side of the railway line and then realised we couldn't go in a straight line to the cache. After a short back track we found the way to GZ for a quick find. TFTC.

Needed a morning hill climb to start the week. This one would do. Parked near the paint ball and walked to GZ. Soon found the cache and enjoyed the view, before a jog back to the car. TFTC TE
Just couldn't figure out this one at all. From where I was standing, about 20m from the cache, I figured I would need more than a hip replacement if I attempted it! So I gave it a miss.
We left The Woofer at home today (we've picked enough grass seeds out of her fur lately!) and headed out to grab a bunch of caches that have been staring us in the face for a while. We found 11 from 11 (over 11km!!), and had a great walk along the train tracks, saw some awesome views, dodged a snake, and left goodies behind wherever possible.
We approached this one from the wrong elevation, so Chris did the honours while Saf stayed behind. TFTC TE!

Sunday 20 November 2016 - a hot 30 degree + Spring afternoon riding my bike, and walking 7.4kms in approx 2.25hrs to find 7 from 7 caches. Enjoyed the light sprinkle of rain as the thunder and lightening rumbled in the distance along with torrential rain. Great walk along the old railway line and worth a favourite point for the group of caches found today. Thx p2p. TFTC Tankengine.
It was a pleasant day for a walk in the bush, but after the weather forecast I hadn't expected this. I thought it was going to be rain and more rain, but it appears today's rain passed over last night. I had 21 mm in my rain gauge. After checking the sky and not seeing a rain cloud in sight, Decrypter and I set out to get a couple of caches here. We parked at the gate of a road off the Monaro Highway and walked in. There was a good view from here of southern Canberra. Lots of wildflowers were blooming too. This cache was quickly found. TFTC Tankengine.
You're right, Tankengine. Top views!! Down to my fourteenth-last zero day in my days of the year calendar. And today, it's down to thirteen, thanks to this cache. It's late in the day, and my good self, my two geoschnauzers, my mate's two geocavoodles, and a further alleged geocavoodle are off for a walk in the pine forest and scrub, to find this cache. It's quite chilly, I should have brought a coat for the downhill bits, but I'll live. We all walked slowly up the hill, as I'm a bit ill today, found the cache easily, looked at the views, and returned to the car, where I warmed up a bit ad the dogs were saying "Is that all the walk we get?" Nice cache, thanks, Tankengine. Four more zero days before I retire, and another nine next month, and I've got rid off all the zero days in my calendar. Next challenge? Get rid of all the single-digit days, probably.
Another one done. Woo Hoo! I love the challenge of the geocache hunt - read the notes, decipher the cache requirements, and go searching for the hide. This is an amazing world-wide game of hide and seek. I love it! I also enjoy caching with my family, and meeting fellow cachers. It really is a small world when I read over cache logs. **Thanks go to Tankengine** for placing this cache and maintaining it. It's a great contribution to the Geocaching community and much appreciated.
I enjoyed finding this one at 12:24:44 PM with Jackson Lightning, geo-spouse and geo-kid. There is a great view.

2nd cache today. Was following the railroad until we realised it was up above it and had to take a steep climb up from hill. On we continue. Tftc
Found ourselves at the bottom of a small cliff standing on a railway line. Thought we were going to have to go around until next minute the more adventurous half of our team decided to rock climb, much to Jim1213's dismay. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Nice little find eventually. Thanks for the cache!
I just now realised who the CO is - I'm not surprised as the container I have seen before (used by you along the Cycle path series). Great view from GZ - Thanks TE - you do a great job in places caches in many places from which we can see things that we otherwise would never see.
#1294 Another fairly quick find while making my way along the railway line. Thanks Tankengine.
Lovely afternoon for a Mountain bike ride! Went for a 19.5km loop chasing 3 easy caches – rode the MTB up to all 3 of them, rode all the way, and nudged the hiding spot with the front wheel!
Rode ALL the way to this cache – I know the area, obviously, and simply rode along that trail to the cache, from Melrose train station! Easy – but scary in some places where I was 15m vertically above the train line! I reckon the hardest part of this cache was turning the bike around to ride back to the station and then to the Melrose Mine cache. All good, great afternoon views, Thanks.
(PS – I think I recall a former geocaching game piece was temporarily very close to here???)

Found with mcmooster. Great views made the climb well worth it for us. TNLN. TFTC.
After hiking to the top, took the wrong elevation initially but, after correcting my mistake soon came to GZ for a quick find and a stunning view. TFTC Tankengine.
What a lovely view! Our 3 yr old was earning his geocaching stripes getting up here! Thanks for another lovely walk and view!
We went out with for an early cache trip along with some company. After a detour around the paintball place, we followed the all too familiar path up towards GZ. I thought the train track was a little closer than it turned out to be, but we got there in the end... Wandering up (and keeping an eye on the geotoddler) we made our way up to GZ for the quick find and great view! Surprising how high we got so quickly. Thanks for the nice morning walk!
[Green]A lovely Saturday morning in Tuggeranong, gentle rattle of paintball pellets in the background, and we had our mission locked in. With the [blue][I] Wasptor & Fraggles [/I][green] clan as company we all trecked up the trail to the railway track - in search of a view. Some ways along the track the view appeared, and yep, 'twas a beauty! Sure enough the cache was right there, and leave our mark we did [^] [blue]Thanks for the cache Tankengine
The last time I came up this way was about 15 years ago. The road used to be open then and I drove up to an open garden at one of the local farms.
Today was so different.
The smell of the pine sap, the sounds of the cars on the Monaro free-way. The warm sunny day and the dusty dry hill side. It felt like I was hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains to the north of L.A. very weird. Next I was expecting to see a deer being eaten by a mountain lion. Well maybe that's a small exaggeration.
Only a short walk up the hill for great views. Almost the whole valley. What a gem. And there's an old train line.
That's true Canberra caching heritage. Views and trains..... You've nailed it TS. A favourite point for me!
Thanks for a great little spot.

Thanks again TE

We were feeling a bit restless and decided a walk would help burn off some energy. We parked at the gate and made the walk up towards the old train lines and quickly spotted the way to go. Loved the trail up over the escarpment and the views were very impressive. The old telegraph poles are always interesting and such a communication relic of the past.
We soon made it to GZ were we found the cache pretty exposed, we quickly signed the log as the wind had picked up and it was getting pretty cold up here, but not before peaking over the edge. We pushed the cache behind and left it a bit more hidden and off we went to visit the "mine".
Gem of a cache Tankengine and a good warm up for today's walk, thanks for the cache!
