I wanted a cache to fill one of the last two gaps in my D/T grid and another geocacher suggested this puzzle as he had managed to solve it. I really enjoyed doing it although I did need Troodles assistance at one point and I was really grateful for my fellow geocachers checks of my clues. We found the cache today, coming back from a kelp monitoring trip to Tumbledown Bay. Thank goodness there was a place to pullover and park the car. With two of us looking, and using the information in past logs, we found the wee cache in a few moments with only a bit of clambering around the steep bank. I was very grateful because I could well imagine the search taking ages.TFTC and the help solving it.
Nights of puzzling found the answers with Baktrak.Thought we'd have days of scrambling over the impressive erosion and roots here, but finally saw the light at the back of the tunnel. Thanks TheWanglers
This puzzle took us several days of looking at it and putting it down until ideas dropped one by one. Our friends just shook their heads when we tempted them to help. Bit by bit we got more used to the style and the topic. Fast forward to our post-mega trip and we spent a long time precariously holding on to not much at all and poking and prodding. Finally, an approach from another side exposed a tell-tale that hid what we sought. Ticks the boxes for a fave. Thanks TheWanglers.
This was our second stop at this spot. PM ed a previous finder to help with where we should be looking. Thanks for the help and now we made the find pretty quickly - although somewhat ackwardly. Thanks to muggle Kevy for the help. I would probably still be there looking.
Cache 1649 WOW what a mission both the puzzle and the hide.. I really struggled with the puzzle but got a couple of heads together with some better puzzlers than me and we nutted it out together So this cache was one of the main reasons I decided to have a mini caching holiday in Christchurch this cache was one of the last I needed to sign so I can COMPLETE my DT grid on Feb 29th (so excited) I made my first attempt yesterday morning to find the cache no luck after 30 mins of searching I decided to give up and try again in the evening, came back in the evening and again after 30 mins I was still coming up empty handed. By now I was getting worried I did not want to DNF this cache! So I sent out an SOS to the previous finders and luckily they got back to me really quickly with a better clue to the final hiding spot so after a geo event this morning back I came full of determination!!!! I was still coming up empty handed and was about to reach out to the previous finders again when I spotted something that just might be.. and YES THANK HEAVENS there it was extremely well hidden what a challenge (that I thoroughly enjoyed so giving a point) now Im off for more Chch adventures and maybe a bit more caching Im soooooo happy T4TP
I had solved many of these D/T series of caches back when they came out for the Christchurch Mega and it's sad to see them starting to disappear. This was one that I hadn't previously solved, but I really wanted it for the D/T rating, so I set about solving it a few months ago, knowing that I'd be in Christchurch over the summer.
When I first looked at the puzzle I immediately figured out what was going on, as it's a type of puzzle that I enjoy doing. I then slowly worked my way through the completion of the crossword. I got as far as solving 16/22 answers, before hitting a wall. I revisited it a few weeks before setting off for Christchurch and reached out to Troodles for some hints on the clues I couldn't answer. With her hints, I was then able to compete the rest of the crossword and soon had the final co-ordinates worked out!
AliGle and I were traveling around the middle and upper South Island, with the main focus being the completion of the PWGT3 and PWGT4 GeoTours, but we found a few other caches along the way. As we were heading out to Akaroa, we stopped at GZ for this cache and went about trying to find it. After a good 30mins of searching and getting filthy, we left empty handed to get to our accommodation on time. I then reached out to the most recent finder to get some tips on how the cache was hidden. With his advice, we returned the next day and found the cache within a few minutes of searching... it turns out that we weren't quite on the correct level yesterday and that I'd most likely stood on the cache yesterday! Compared notes with the previous finder and we believe that there might be actually be 2 caches on site, as we think he found the original cache and we found the replacement. Either way, I'm really glad to have this cache ticked off!
Really enjoyed this one for the puzzle and it was quite a mission finding the cache in the end too! TFTC, favourite point added!

Vistra and I were travelling around the middle and upper South Island, focusing on finding the the PWGT3 and PWGT4 GeoTour caches in the area, but also finding a few other caches along the way. A challenging cache indeed! Vistra had solved the crossword a while ago but the greater challenge was locating the cache at GZ. We had to reach out to a couple of other finders for help, but got there in the end- second time lucky!
After getting the nearby 5/5, it was off to revisit these previous solved caches. The weather wasn't the best but I had to debunk the "Mr Cuddly Brick doesn't cache in the rain thing" that was floating around the community. This took a bit but got there in the end.

After a couple of frustrating attempts finally got this cache. Filled in a spot on my D/T chart.
Thanks for the support of LaVista on this cache. Now where's the next one?

We solved this puzzle during lockdown late last year as it was high on the list to grab another loop on the DT grid. It is not the type of puzzle that we are familiar with so asked for a little help on where to get started. With some basics explained we set about solving it and managed to get most of the required words over the next few weeks but a couple eluded us with several options available. After confirming they were incorrect went back to the research and finally hit on a site that gave us a few different answers that proved correct - really great to have this challenging puzzle solved and we learned a lot along the way.
We were expecting that this cache may be missing with a couple of DNF's and it not being found in 4 years. After a 5km walk to DT5.0/5.0 we headed to it. We were aware of the general area it would be in and had a conversation with a local cacher to confirm if it would be okay to replace if needed, even took along a TOTT to dig it out as we were told it would be buried. Tried a few spots and did a bit of digging around with out luck and then came down to size it up again. After having another look took a shot at somewhere slightly different and out popped the cache. So glad to be able find this one without replacing it, cache is still in great condition.
This is an excellent puzzle and challenging hide after so long. TFTC

Went back for another look, spent another hour looking, no joy wondering if its still there?
Spent an hour with LaVista searching. Approached from the top and the bottom, no joy
Out on a Sunday Mission with Shannonp1 specifically to find some long solved puzzles including some D/T's. This was a quick easy find thanks to the dry track, would not be fun in wet! Thanks for the effort that goes into placing and maintaining the cache.
Got a day pass so went out and about with Surevybase for another crack at some caches out around the bays. Had a few laughs and more than a few scrambles and generally a good time. Thanks to all the CO's for their time in placing these caches. Sorry about the cut and paste. TFTC.
Came at this from the wrong direction so headed to the bottom of the hill to turn around. Once I'd sorted that and parked I headed straight to the obvious spot. Nope. Second most obvious? Nope. Tried right along without joy. Retreated across the road to read old logs. Noticed Tim's comment when he checked on it so tried again... with a stick! Still nothing. I was inching my way along when I looked up and something caught my eye. As I was doing all this in jandals I decided to use the stick to extend my reach and... success! Really glad to get this done.

Felt confident that with a dry track, weather on our side that we would possibly find this cache. RoVista went over the same territory as 19 months ago and very sad to say no worms disturbed nor cache found - again.
From the title I had figured out the method to solve, but it took a long and winding road to get there. Speaking of winding roads, I took one to reach the GZ. I stood there with the phone getting an idea of the likely locations, then crossed the road and accessed a few of them. Tricky. Deserving of the T rating I think. Had to be rather circumspect.
Anyone coming after me will see footprints all over the place, so that will be no help to them. So I backed off. Reassessed. Examined from across the road again. Then spotted one thing likely to be out of place. Went back again and bingo, that was it. More of a "phew" than a "yahoo", but pleased to tick another box on the D/T grid. Thanks to the DTguru team for another great puzzle and cache.

On a caching mission with AngelG27, Fox in Jox and IVSS_XX to find as many of the D/T81 caches as possible in a day. I was in NZ for my daughter's wedding, and my other daughter's graduation and planned to visit Christchurch to maintain caches and find as many of these as possible. AngelG27 and Fox in Jox decided to take the opportunity to have a holiday in NZ and join me, so over the last few months we have been beavering away at solving these. After some hints last night we (mainly Fox in Jox) were still solving today as we enjoyed a beautiful day's caching around Lyttleton harbour. Unfortunately we didn't get them all solved, or find all the ones we had solved so maybe another visit in the future. IVSS_XX took the opportunity to join us for the day.
A quick find here by Fox in Jox. TFTC.

Easiest T4,5 ever!
Thanks goes to Fox in the Jox for doing all the hard solving! My head hurts from only looking at these disturbed fleeing word crossworms.

AngelG27, TikvaNZ and I have travelled from Canberra to find caches from the D/T 81 Series that we had managed to solve by ourselves, or as a team (some with nudges along the way from COs or previous finders). We were joined by IVSS_XX, so we decided to log as team F.A.I.T. for brevity.
Now this puzzle was right up my alley. It didn't take long to get the idea from the theme. Then it was a matter of carefully working my way through the information to extract all the details. Then it was a matter of placing things in the right spot. I did a few check-ins with Troodles, to see if I was heading in the right direction - I was. She was very supportive. A bit of a nudge for the final method to develop the coordinates and I had a green light. A fist bI will admit, there may have been a small fist pump in celebration.
I had noticed that the cache may have gone missing, so I checked in with Troodles on the night of the Christchurch event - all was good. In fact, she had collected it that day. Sure enough, at GZ, the cache was found in a likely looking spot for a most enjoyable find.
This was well worth a favourite point. It has inspired me to consider a similar puzzle back in Canberra - I will, of course, seek permission to steal the idea!!!!

This trip to NZ was long planned, with the DT 81 series the main focus. TikvaNZ, Fox and I did lots of puzzle solving in preparation, many solved individually, but others solved cooperatively and some with a little push. Today was the day to make good on our solves and we headed out with Ivss_xx (signed as FAIT) to collect a stack of them. It was a long day, but we grabbed around 50 of them, with a few others thrown in for good measure. Unless otherwise indicated, caches were found in good order and in accordance with the hint.
Fox did the hard yards on this one - his mind works this way! He also made the find! over-achieving on this one I would say
Thanks for the cache and the fun!

StreetWalker and I took advantage of the fine but coolish weather to head for the hills to find a few caches but took the scenic route via a few previous DNFs to see if we could change them into smiles.
This was the second stop. We had noticed the CO had recently replaced the cache, so we were very keen to look for it before it disappeared again. SW scurried up the bank and spotted something that need further investigation - yes, the cache. Phew, pleased to get this at last. As I was the PO, I had to rely on SW solving the puzzle, which he did, though I think he had to first compare notes with Lo Vista.
Thanks for replacing. Still a few more in this series to find (and solve :-/) TFTC.

#14513. We needed 7 or 8 finds for the day (to get up to 20 for Sep 30). A few days ago this cache was replaced, and that is how we decided where to head for today's caches. Our third visit, and I was pleased that this time the cache hiding place was easy to spot (and I managed to stay reasonably clean; unlike the last visit). TFTC.
Nope no luck at all - there were quite a few places, and we ended up very very dirty! Lol...
With the GPSr wandering, there was quite an area of tricky terrain to search, but no luck. Should have headed out soon after the CO unearthed it last year.
Checked today, it's there. It was buried in the silt/clay a bit due to water run off.
Hadn't been in geocache mode for awhile but this was to be my special birthday geocake treat. GZ looked more dangerous than anticipated, I scrambled on the opposite lower areas, even with GZ obviously showing opposite direction while RoVista and tokentess both tried at all levels at GZ - no worms disturbed nor geocache unearthed [;(} [;(} [;(}
Today we set out to find as many of the D/T series as we could.
We parked near the GZ of 5.0/4.5 and began to search. Our GPS would not settle on any particular point, often jumping from as little as 3m to as much as 12m from GZ without actually moving. Began as close to a grid search as is possible here, and after several minutes one of us literally unearthed the cache. Opened it up and were surprised to see the blank logbook - we had forgotten that this one was still up for grabs.

Thanks, we really enjoy this type of puzzle, and FTFs so between the 2 this one definitely earns a Favourite point.

Took a look at this puzzle for the first time yesterday, and something clicked. Managed to work steadily through the grid until we only had 5 more to fill in, but had run out of ideas. Today we kept coming back to this puzzle on our breaks, but it wasn't until the end of the day that we made the first breakthrough, and then another couple fell, followed by the last two some time later. Very satisfying to get that green tick of approval from geochecker. We thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle and the brain work-out it gave us. Thank you!
Oops, spelling mistake rectified . "Strangley" should be "Strangely". Thanks to Mrs SoBad for pointing it out.
