TFTC! Cloudy day and hard to see the mighty Waikato at its best, but a information earthcache day
On my way to New Plymouth, I broke my journey here, to collect an Earthcache for International Earthcache Day. An interesting spot, and pleasant place to have a wander. TFTEC.
A sunny winter afternoon with rattll. I'd had my eye on this cache for some time, as I needed a Y cache in July for a spelling challenge. After answering the questions and sending to the CO, rattll informed me that I must show the respect due to the Mighty Waikato. See the attached photo... An FP for a gorgeous day in the Mighty Tron!
A short, little caching trip after running a few errands on this side of town.A visit to another part of the river for the first time. It was quite majestic today in the autumn sunshine.I took the opportunity to take a little look around and a wander as I contemplated the answers required, which I have sent to the CO.Thanks MillsandLills for bringing me here.#5214
I set myself a mini goal today of getting as many different cache types as I could, so naturally this earth cache was on the to do list. It was nice to learn about the area a little bit and spend some time in nature as I typed up my answers. Tftc
Came and had a look at this Earthcache on a recent trip to Hamilton. Lots of walkers about and even some jet-skis out on the water. Gathered our information and have sent it in to the CO. Thanks for showing us this spot.
Helped gather the info for this one on a family trip away. Answers send via tracy.g. Thanks for the EC
Were on a short holiday with Wilbert67, grabbing caches along the way, seeing sites that we havent been to before. Thanks to all the COs for their placements.Greeting from Australia
Second day in New Zealand and it's a wet one. Only having 5 days means we have to go caching hail rain or shine. Quick find here.TFTC Wilbert67

An interesting Earthcache, one that we were surprised we hadn't completed earlier. Thanks to the CO's for setting this up and bringing us to this spot. Logged with permission, photo of Mr Geckoh at GZ attached.

Out enjoying a nice bike ride along the river and noticed this nice Earthcache here, answers sent, picture attached, TFTC
We came along this Earthcache on our way from North to South and we enjoyed the break. Thank you for leading us to this place.
Day 14 on our holiday in New Zealand. Today we are in the area and surrounding area of Rotorua, and then we are going in direction Whitianga. We also visited this Earth Cache, took a photo, and of course we sent the answers to the CO.

I'm visiting the 'mighty Tron' for a couple of weeks, and enjoying lots of walks along the riverbank, so it was great to stop and take a closer look at this awesome river.
Thanks for setting this up

Prior to getting into geocaching, I used to ride my bike past here, following the Te Awa River Ride trail. Now coming here has an added meaning for me. Happy International Earth Cache Day! Thank you for the cache.
Was out with Team SEAC on another adventure. Riding this route was in the making for a while but due to weather conditions, we had to put it off another month, till today!

Left Daddypig's Assistant in the car whilst I made my way down the slightly slippery path to the riverbank. The Waikato wasn't looking its most beautiful or majestic today, and with the water level being potentially higher than normal and the ground soft and slippery I didn't want to hang around too long, I have a bit of a habit of slipping into rivers.
A mighty river indeed in winter flood level.
I spent quite a bit of time wandering along the banks during my 5 days in Hamilton.

Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at Te Aroha but were visiting Hamilton for the day … decided to check out the Earthcache & the Virtual along the banks of the Waikato … took the obligatory photos … answers have been sent to Cache Owner & we are logging this in anticipation of receiving the ‘all clear’ … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN except photos:LN:didn’t Sign Log ... #2,866 for us.
A bit steep and slippery coming down from the road but well worth it afterwards, this is such a great walkway and we really enjoyed a nice peaceful and picturesque 12km walk today through the autumn leaves. Not a lot of muggles around either.
Answers sent, thanks for a very interesting Earthcache.

Always on the lookout for earthcaches so this was a must whilst in Hamilton. Thanks Millsand Lills for setting this one. Waited to get over the Christmas break before finalising the answers.
Took a detour to make this discovery. Definitely enjoy the earth cache concept.
Parked up on the side road and headed down the path to GZ. A good view of the river passing by here and after some careful observation I gathered some answers which have been passed to the CO. The link on the cache page was interesting about the soak points for properties. Thanks for the info on this Earthcache.
It being the long weekend of Easter it was decided that a trip down the road to Hamilton would be the plan. We wanted to visit the Hamilton Gardens as we hadn't been there for quite a few years, and then it was with tired children. Plenty of time on our hands today and an early start - 'thanks' to Daylight saving adjustments this morning. A good day out and a loop walk around Lake Rotoroa/Hamilton Lake and 2 complete Adventure lab cache series done - nice.

The Akl L3 happened while I was away. I would have stayed away longer, but had something I needed to get back to. I stopped here on my way through Hamilton to get this EC which seems to always get skipped in other trips this way. TFTeC.
We needed to head down to Hamilton to look at a quality mattress that Mrs. Liver Bird had spotted on the internet for real cheap compared to other offerings in the stores. So, today was the day that we took a day trip to try out the mattress and place an order. Anyway, we couldn't come all this way and just turn around to head on home again, we just had to spend some time in a different town, have a look around, and grab a few caches while we were here.
With it being the weekend for collecting earth caches for Earth Cache Day, we needed to grab this one while we were here. So we walked on down to the river from the road and came to GZ. Once there, we started finding the answers to the questions in the description. These have been sent onto the COs and this log is in anticipation of getting the okay from them.

The geological history of the river is cool. Having it diverted from its ancient course at Horahora down through the Waikato instead of Hauraki is quite fascinating. I regularly walk the blanks in various places with geopooch. Today is a good day to finally log the cache.
I am using the excuse of friends of mine getting married in Northland this weekend to finally get to do what I have wanted to do for over 30 years now, visit 90 Mile Beach and Cape Reinga.
And of course whilst doing that I'm also making the most of a rare opportunity to grab a whole bunch of caches that either help me with my Jasmer grid, my Hidden Dates grid, or else are part of the TMGT, or lastly because they are an Earthcache or a Virtual which I like doing.
Cape Reinga roadtrip day 6, my last day - the drive back home from Auckland.
It was going to be a very tiring day, trying to get as much caching done as I made the long winding way from my overnight stay in Auckland back home to the hustle and bustle of normal life and work! This would be the last day on the road, of a journey that ended up being a 2300km round trip.
I pass through Hamilton a few times a year, but haven't actually stopped here much since before discovering Geocaching so thought it was about time to set that right. So having parked up alongside the footpath leading to GZ, I was able to casually stroll down to where I needed to be to make my observations. It was around lunchtime, but there was no-one else around to wonder why I was taking such an interest in a storm drain lol!
I was able to make my notes, take some photos, and generally relax for a few minutes as the mighty Waikato river swept past me. It's a lot more serene here than at the Huka Falls!
Thanks for the Earthcache.

Although we stayed the night in Hamilton, we first drove west to the Bridal Veil falls and only saw the river again at around lunch time, when we headed back towards Rotorua and looked for a place to stop and eat our sandwich. This place provided a nice opportunity for a walk. TFTC!
A good spot to stip and stretch the legs as we headed towards Auckland.

Found this with a friend after a full day of geocaching. Last one for the day to complete a challenge series. Answers sent to CO. Thanks
This was one of those must get around to caches. I used to live in this area so it was good to get back to the old hood. It was good to learn about the river tftc
A mighty river, but not one we're really familiar with. The Clutha is the mighty river where we come from. TFTC
**This was 1 of 24 caches that was found by me on the 17th of 19 days in New Zealand.**
**Which also was the 70th of 75 days that my travels thru southeast Asia and Oceania would last.**
It took a few minutes before I started to remember anything from the visit here. And the first thing that come to my mind was that did bring an package of yoghurt down with me and sat down on an bench eating it. Then I started to gather the needed information.
The answers did I send via Message center on December 16th.
*During 19 days I traveled from Christchurch to Auckland in an SUV, that i also slept in during most of the nights. 5.956 km of driving did it take to visit the 351 caches that I have marked as found in c:geo.*
*Earthcaches was my main focus during the stay. And I manage to visit 106 of them. So New Zealand is right now the only country where earthcaches are my most found cache type .*

It is certainly a mighty river which touches lives of many New Zealanders Like Mount Maunganui is to us the Waikato River is to many Hamiltonians - it is home But we do need to look after it and to do that we need to be aware of things that affect it. Thanks for this Earthcache and creating the time to check on this mighty one. Answers emailed TFTEC
Answers sent with sueparr2 we had a great day coming to this cache and checking out Hamilton’s gardens what a fantastic place to visit TFTC gets a fave
I sent the answers for JutyBug and myself a couple of weeks ago, before the Wellington Mega - wanted to tidy up my cache list. Hamiltonians are so lucky to have this great walkway beside the Waikato! We enjoyed a bit of a stroll and leg-stretch before checking out the cache site. A fair load of silt, but still such an impressive river. TFTC
On a long trip down to the mega with Lis's crew. So for me it good for numbers and favorites caches. With several stops and a lot of caches and several souvenirs up for grabs the trip was the perfect opportunity to get my numbers up and get some challenges that I have qualified for. Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining the caches.
I've just sent my answers away to the co. I'm off to the Mega in Wellington and exploring the country as I go. Thanks for the earthcache
The kids and I did this cache on our way back from tauranga to auckland. A lovely spot, I wish we'd had more time to enjoy the walk. Tftc
Have been holding off on this one until earth cache day & so today it was all go! Have been here a couple of times in the past, most recently when biking from one side of the mighty Waikato to the other. A great spot. It was coming up to dark, so my photo is not the best, but still looks pretty cool to me!

Came here on our way down to Palmerston North with kiwisteve2. Answers have been sent. Great area. I would like to note that isnt Wheelchair accessible if you approach from the closest end of the path unless accompanied. Its a very steep hill. Thanks for the geology lesson!
TFT Earthcache Thanks for highlighting the importance and history of the Waikato River. Visiting on a 6-day trip to the North Island and gathering quite a few earthcaches. Answers sent today.
Wandered down this way to GZ. Love getting close to the vegetation. There is such a variation depending upon where one is wandering. I was mostly inland in drier areas. Thank you for taking me to this earthcache.
Passing through Hamilton, on a whirlwind tour of the North Island. Wish there was more time to see everything, but we couldn't pass up the chance for an earthcache when we were right in the area anyway. Thanks for placing one here for us to find! Answers have been sent. Hello from Duluth, Minnesota!
It was a very hot day and the river looked a picture, also to add to the excitement a helicopter was hovering around and A boat on the river were carrying out some sort of maneuver could not quite see what it was all about ....but fun anyway ....thanks Mills& Lills for taking the time to set up this cache.....it’s amazing what you find out when you research topics and astonishing the amount of run off that enters the river thanks for the cache
Forty odd years ago I was intimate with the workings of the Waikato River with my Hydrology and Water Quality at the Ministry of Works (now NIWA). We spent hours trolling up the river with fluorecein dyes mapping flows and currents and water quality. Forward another lifetime and now enjoying it's recreational qualities. As I was assessing the information required at gz and motor boat came past checking around as it went past. Next minute a small helicoptor came over-head and buzzed up and down the river adjuacent to gz. I wonder what they were looking for or researching?? It seemed very appropriate that they should arrive at the same time as me. Thanks MillsandLills for setting up this earth cache and the positive feedback.
A group consisting of LiverKiwi, Dragon Griffin, NZTravellers, HeMaLuDy, Purply, Darthcacher1, EIR-0T, Keylev, and NewlynFam headed down this way to collect as many of the Eyes have it series as possible after having a solving session at the end of last year....
We had managed to locate the Eyes have it series so continued on with local caches which took us to this cache.
Have submitted answers via email to CO.

We were in the area with a group of us after completing the eyes have it series, we took the ling way back to auckland via a number if hamilton caches. The answers for this cache have been emailed to the CO, and the cache has been logged in anticipation of acceptance. Thanks for the Earth Cache.
After completing the eyes have it series we stopped for lunch and then decided to find some other caches in the wider area.
Nice walk under tree cover which was a bit cooler. Saw the local search and rescue and volunteers searching the river for the missing person. We did keep an eye out all day as well.
Answers on the way to you. One of the other crew team members has the photo of all of us and will upload. Thanks for the cache.

Having just completed 'The Eyes Have It' series with Team SEAC we decided to carry on and pick up some more caches around Hamilton.
It was a very hot day so it was almost tempting to take a dip in the Mighty Waikato... but more caches were calling. It was a nice shaded walk to GZ where we worked out the answers which I have emailed to the CO, TFTC!

Had finished the Eye Have It series and had cached our way back I to Hamilton.
Saw this Earthcache and all of us thought it would be a great stop.
We all wandered to GZ and found the correct information which has been confirmed by the CO as correct.
Check the HeMaLuDys log for our group photo.
Log signed as SEAC11 as there were 11 of us on this trip today.

A very wet day in Hamilton today so decided to grab the information at the published co-ordinates and then log later in the dry at home. Not that picturesque, but nevertheless interesting. TFTC.
Out cycling the river trail today. River has been really high lately and up to the track and over in places. Drizzly day for riding but at least there are less walkers and cyclists out on the track. Quite impressive action at GZ today.
Having a flight home from Auckland this evening I took my mum out for a nice lunch, said my farewell and slowly cached my way north along the river! Answers have been messaged to you. TFTC MillsandLills

Took a lovely walk down to GZ and was amazed with the quick flow of the river - something we are not used to in Australia. Thanks for showing us your wonderful natural beauty.
This one was the first for our Mega trip to NZ. We managed to follow the Waikato for much of the weekend, starting right back up at Huka falls. This was an interesting little spot as we learnt a bit more about the river. Answers sent off. TFTEC!
#604 - needed to find a Earthcache today 4 Earthcache day! Messaged u the answers. Tftc.
Lot's of water down the river today. Very interested in the installation there. Was working at full capacity. Thanks from Auckland for the water you send us !!!! Great EC.
Found it on our mission to Hamilton! Needed an earth cache and this was the one!
Cool find on a lovely walk along the path. A few muggles around though
### Happy International Geocaching Day! ###
Message sent to CO with answers for confirmation.
I came to Hamilton for the event today and my mission was to attempt to find at least 7 different cache types for a challenge cache I plan to visit sometime in the future. I easily achieved this task and it only took a couple of hours all up.
This earth cache was quite different to others I have found. They usually bring me to nice park-like and picturesque places and this brought me to an outlet on the banks of the Waikato River.
As I had limited time today, this earthcache was all I needed to fill in one of my cache types and with the company of Squirrel Nutcase, I made notes on the required details so I could complete the requirements later in the eve..
Thanks for the cache and the lesson of geology of the Waikato River.

Our last cache of the day before heading home. It's also the last cache type we needed to find to qualify for our 7 in a day challenge. We worked our way through the questions and Pazza has sent answers on behalf of the team. A nice spot here.
I came here with urbangypsynz and supernanny and Aiden29 Team Westies from West Auckland, with the purpose of getting a 7 cache type challenge. I have done the challenge before but after this weekend I have done it again! It was great getting answers here, especially with good company and ones who like earth caches too. Together we worked out some reasonable answers to the questions and have e-mailed the C.O. Thanks for setting this one up MillsandLills.
This was our last but not least of our caches we visited in the Waikato. Luckily for us, the weather was kind to us while we surveyed the area and sadly, we went on to join the queue of traffic to head back up to the rat race we call home. Thanks for this earthcache
I left Rotorua early this morning for an event by the lake with that in mind I decided that I need to complete the 7 cache types in one day challenge so this was my first stop of the day nice and early for a nice walk down to GZ.

After a whole weekend in Hamilton doing mysteries, trads, letterbox, events, night caches, multi and wherigo, now we were able to finish off with this earth cache before heading for home. After a really wet weekend it was now reasonably clear and sunny visiting this spot with Pazabella, Geocchi, and Merlot58. Had fun answering the questions and will post a photo when we find it on our camera/phone.
Was here to do this Waikato earthcache for the members of our Westies team doing the 7 plus a day challenge !
Nearly the last cache of our busy weekend ; thankyou for this chance MillsandLills .

Last cache for the day in Hamilton. Google maps initially took us to a new gated community, but we soon located a more sensible approach. Ducked down between the rain. Answers sent to CO, photo following. I love earthcaches, thanks for putting one out there.
I enjoy doing Earthcaches. It was a stunning day to be near the river today.

Our last full day in Hamilton and so about time we looked for a few more solved puzzles (not a very long list) plus whatever trads we happened to pass
Noticed this earth cache while planning today's caches, so it was added to our list too. We have had quite a bit to do with the Waikato River during our stay as we completed the Bridge too Far wherigo on bike. it is quite a feature of the city. Logged with permission. TFTC.

We had fun with caching few weeks here in New Zealand. Lots of geocaches and many sort of them too. We saw awesome places, weather was pretty good all the time and people were friendly and polite. Caches were pretty similar like in our home country. Of course there were some exeptions. Nice and really scenary country!

Second day on our geo-roadtrip in New Zealand, and caching our way towards south. Logged using our group nickname FIN with janahola, laalaa and kapeka.
This day we started to head towards south and to Christchurch Mega event. After some power trailing from Auckland to Hamilton, we found ourselves from this Earth cache! Had to do some homework back home to fully understand what this was about. Nice Earth cache!
