I love these The Road Used To Go Through Here caches. Mainly because its part of my favourite cache topics - forgotten history.
So anyway - bugger driving to the posted parking place - the track is quite muddy, and I thought the car might get stuck. So I got out my feet out, put them on and set off. It was interesting getting to the cache, climbing over that fallen tree.I noticed the one on the corner is also dead, but it seems quite stable for now.
And that's as far as my Manawatu radius goes - I'm caching offline. Okay, that's probably obvious! Anyway I hav no idea if there are more caches up this road or not - I am turning back to Wanganui now.

Was hard seeing the overgrown turnoff in the dark, then it was a rather adventurous drive to the ‘parking area’. A short scramble over/under trees and the cache was quickly in hand. Then a careful turnaround in the dark and on my way. Thanks supasi!
My gps had me looking in another corner to start with but there was nothing but rubbish there. After a while it changed its mind and send me in another direction, a scramble over the fallen trees and there was the cache. Only a few cms to the left and that tree would have taken out the hide. Thanks for placing supasi

Was driving through to Wanganui today so stopped by to check out this cache. Several trees fallen down near GZ, but after checking the likely suspect I soon spotted the hide, cheers

A super early morning find as we meander our way towards Whanganui for a caching weekend away. The hint on this one made sense after we located the cache LOL TFTC

Heading along SH4 on the way to Rattl's BBQ, I decided I needed to stop and sign off this one. Noe I will take hire cars many places, but even I reckoned trying to drive to the suggested parking was insanity! Left it by the side of the road, and walked in. A quick find ensued, and the hint made sense when I got there! TFTC.
After a bit of a break from caching I am catching up on my logging that I hadn't finished due to various reasons, mainly procrastinating.
Heading North with redants for a few days away to attend a wedding near Cambridge.

The weekend was long and we had to get to Hamilton by Sunday. Road was easier, so we packed up the car and headed north with a spot of caching to break the monotony of the scenery rushing by.
Sun was too high in the sky to see the eponymous wildlife but we could see a lot of sparkling lights from moisture on the grass. None of this glowing orange business however. Quick find with a lot of water gifted to my torso and legs by the jungle around GZ. TFTC

Was a nice surprise to find a tb in a cache for once! I didn’t have one to swap out as we parked the car up near the road as we weren’t keen to drive to GZ. Hubby helped me find this one. Luckily we had gumboots on as the grass is real long.
Logged this TB when I got home and it was listed as missing so was glad to rescue it. One of the most beautiful TB’s I’ve seen. TFTC

Heading up to Rotorua for work from Whanganui, doing some geocaching to break the journey. First of the day. Lovely spot. TFTC
Day 1 of my week long road trip of geocaching, camping and seeing a few bands. Today I left Wellington mid morning and battled the SH1 traffic most of the way, caching as I headed for Wanganui. For the fist time I am using the cachetur.no website and app to plan out my caching, and so far I am liking it.
I had originally planned to get this one tomorrow morning on my way out of town, but as Id made good time today I decided to get a head start and find it today. All quiet here, and no problem finding. TFTC

At the beginning of a very unexpected trip travelling to central North Inland on some unusual roads and staying at a small oy of the way 'township" . we left early and after having morning tea with friends in whanganui we set off up the paraparas stopping at the caches as we went
Thank you for this cache

My GPSr didn't zero in on a particular spot but the hint helped get me over the line. Thanks for the interesting information about koura; I hope their numbers soon increase to the extent that the threatened status can be lifted.
We hadn’t realised how close to home this cache actually is.
Came out for a quick Sunday drive and after a quick search at GZ we soon located the cache.
TFTC supasai!

What a perfect Spring geocaching day so we enjoyed a little expedition to the north of Whanganui, and up towards Raetihi. We aimed to complete eight caches and succeeded with seven. Most of the caches were quite straightforward and we drove through some great scenery and a few roadworks especially along that unstable Parapara Rd - but it is very interesting to see what is being done to maintain the road. We got back to Upukongaro in time for a late yummy lunch which we ate sitting in the very pleasant garden of the cafe - a lovely finish to our day.
We saved this cache for our return journey as we'd be on the correct side of the road. There was great parking space here and then we walked to the cache site. The hint was helpful at narrowing in on the location. The only problem was the cache being wedged so tight we could not lift it out. We needed something to help prise it and resorted to using a pen. This worked but also broke the pen! Fortunately we had another and so the log was signed. TFTC and the information on koura - brings back childhood memories of the 'crawlies' in a local stream.

I looked in several places and almost gave up since I was only finding about half of the hint. I finally put it all together and found the cache (or maybe vice versa). TFTC.
Back in Whanganui for a few days of work. Arrived early and had time to tick off some local caches. This was as far up SH4 as we went before turning back. Well worded hint. Thanks
My ;ast cache up this side of the road before turning round and heading back into town. A nice park up and walk cache and the cache was found exactly as per the hint. T F T C supasi
Now that the festivities are over we have just a couple of days before heading South again so I determined to find as many of the remaining caches in the area as I could. I headed up bioth sides of the river in the local area, and got a speeding ticket for my troubles (my own fault obviously!). Still, a few more finds and another nice day of weather in the area.
In Whanganui for a week over Christmas, visiting and staying with our daughter and her partner and letting the news that she's expecting her first child, which will make 12 grandchildren for us! We squeezed in a cheeky trip to New Plymouth during the week and I advanced my TMGT cache finds to over 30, as well as grabbing a few more 'new' Virtual caches as well as my 180th Earth cache. Grabbed a cache on xmas day morning too meaning my 5-days will be complete on Leap-day next year - yay! Thanks to all COs whose caches I found and individual logs wherever possible.

Time to head for home after a 12 day break. We stayed last night with family in Bulls, and chose to travel to Auckland via Wanganui and SH4. We had a couple of puzzle caches to pick up along the way, and quite a few trads including #2 Koura. There was a farm vehicle parked up in the carpark and a man was chopping firewood. We said hi, and walked down to GZ. The cache was found in its nice hiding spot pretty quickly, and then back to the car. Not sure what the guy would have thought we were up to. TFTC.
Down with Tara ted walked right passed the cache then read the discription that made it an easier find thanks supasi TFTC
This was the only cache left to find near and north of Wanganui so we headed out to claim it. Walked across to the cache in very waterlogged conditions after it had rained heavily overnight. A short search using the hint and it was soon discovered in its cleverly placed hide. Thanks supasi for the placement.

Wahoo!!! This was our 300th find!!! Bit of a trek through long grass and prickles with the GPS spinning and changing constantly, but Mr Berries found the cache. Swapped a car for a peg, and a starfish. TFTC
I'm off to Ohakune today so decided to sneak this cache in along my travels. I parked up beside the road and walked the short distance to this cache. I read the hint slightly wrongly (morning coffee hadn't kicked in yet!) so looked in the wrong location initially before quickly spying the cache. No fishy encounters on my visit today.

Work commitments have kept us from going away so far this Xmas-New Year period, and we really wanted to say we had a trip, so after work we headed out on a Whanganui Waiouru Taupo Te Kuiti Stratford loop to see some places we hadn't seen.
The coordinates were good and the correct corner was located, although the container took some work to extract. All good inside, log signed and a small trinket dropped off.
Thanks for the placement.

Decided to go for this one today as the weather was pretty dore to be out in. Went out between the downpours and got away being damp from the wet grass only. Quick find TFTC
Great spot for freedom camping . Found while doing relocation from Christchurch to Auckland by Mad Campers. All good at GZ m TFTC.
Heading to Rotorua today and was getting some caches along our travels we were not sure where to park up o this one but found the correct spot to park then it was a short walk to the cache. Ground zero was a bit up and down underfoot a bit damp but found the cache grabbed the t.v signed the log and placed the cache back where I found it then it was back to the car. Thank you for placing a cache here. A spot I would never of stopped to see if it wasn't for the cache. TfTC
Stopped off on the way to Wanganui to seek out this hide. Thanks for all the information about Koura. A good hide. We dropped off Mikey the Zebra TB as he wants to meet other animals. SL. TFTC.
In Whanganui for the afternoon to find some more caches. Soon had cache in hand and returned as found. Thanks supasi for the cache.
hhhhmmmm will my car go there.. nope better to be safe than sorry, hubby has been here a few times now looking for this cache in the very early hours (around 3-6am) but gave up as it was too hard so he told me to come grab this one, kaleb had it in hand which followed a photo to send to hubby to show we had it. thanks for the placement time to turn around and head back
Took me longer than it should have with the GPS bouncing around. Still got there. T4tc
Couldn't take the little Vitz to the suggested parking spot so left the car near the road and ventured off to find the cache with Pagenz. Got there in the end. TFTC
Lots of long grass to fight today. Got to GZ and made a quick find. Cheers.
A day to get from Whanganui up to National Park. Time to find a few little boxes....
Thanks to the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

Found thus quicker than I expected. I didn't realize there was such a large culvert going under the road.
Logged with GCDroid. After an earlier episode with soft ground I wasn't prepared to drive down further to gz so walked instead. Glad to stretch the legs somewhat and glad to find with aid of the elephant tracks as area is surrounded by quite tall grass in places.
Failing to read the hint accurately initially had us searching in the wrong locations, before a correct rereading lead us to a quick easy find. TFTC
GPS difference of about 100 between DDTs device and mine. This wasn't a problem however as the clue was clear enough to home in on.
Taranaki Anniversary weekend and made the most of a fine weather weekend to climb Ruapehu for Santa's Secret cache. Now making my way home but first grab a few geocaches and being a working day for most I can geocache mostly without muggles around.
Lovely little spot, worth exploring more, but not today with misty rain, wet undergrowth and failing light. TFTC, enjoyed it.

Heading home after a week long solo camping and geocaching trip to Taupo. I took advantage of the track and drove down it and parked in the shade to help cool the car down - the air con gave out early on in the trip! A nice quick find. TFTC
The Parapara - a roadway that holds many memories for me. So, happy to be cruising southward on SH 4 once again. Mostly I've found the caches on this road so this was the first unfound cache I encountered since leaving Raetihi.
Pleased to be able to make a straightforward find.
And enjoyed the story and information at the Koura too. Thanks for that.
Cache in order; log signed, safely re-hidden just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Dot Day... A day trip to Wanganui. When Gap (of Fap and Gap) told me he was going to the powerboat races, I knew today's dot would be history...
Koura are still fairly plentiful in my home region, if you know where to look... We were surprised to find that we could almost drive to the cache. So this was a quick find with a good hint. TFTC.

Was going to leave this cache for another day but had some time to spare so headed up to take a look. No problem at the road closure so was soon at the parking spot. GPSr was wandering a bit but soon settled although I did not really need it to find the cache. TNLNSL.
Have seen crawlies in Lake Taupo and back in time have caught them in streams using toi toi fronds. Won't be seeing them for a while in this stream I guess, not until that mud clears a bit. Must have been quite a sight through this gully when it was in full flood.
Thanks for the placement and info supasi, very interesting.

As suggested in the note we gave the "gate keeper" the required password & he happily allowed us to continue on our quest.
We parked up at the secret location & tracked down the treasure chest. Left a pet rock - a mermaid. TFTC supasi & for the opportunity to take part in this {FTF} quest.

Attention all Cachers, Due to the recent storm and flooding State Highway 4 (Wanganui - Raetihi) is closed. Dont panic though as you are able to get to GZ. At the cordon you will be stopped and asked how far you are going and if you inform them you will not be going past Parihauhau Road they will let you through. ( the road repairs are further north) The GZ is several hundred metres before Parihauhau Road turn off. If you start going up a large hill you have gone too far.
