A beautiful sunny day for messing about on the river. We found it, though its very wet!!
Out with Kiwi Does Stuff making our way back down the mountain, thought it would be rude not to stop in and collect this cache. Reading through previous logs we quickly figured out what had to be done. The red bands were in full effect crossing the river, quickly located the cache once I put my phone away. Coordinates were off a tad and log was well damp. TFTC
Start of July, that means first day for visiting snow for myself and Reschedule. This year we decided to go all the way around the the southern slopes. It would be rude not to stop and grab this one, which was quickly found by Reschedule after crossing the river and looking closer to coordinates (and not the obvious cave that I suspect others have focussed on). Log paper a bit damp and could be with a bit of TLC. TFTC
Found some large mushrooms first, but that did not seem right ... found it eventually. TFTC
Looked around in many little caverns for quite a while as it started pouring we stopped our search and went onwards. We did not cross the river. True bummer
Log was damp and hard to sign. But I found a spot, and scrambled my username.TFTC.

Hopped across the river with a few extra pairs of eyes. A few small caves to look through but managed to come away with a find. Unfortunately the cache was a bit under the weather- contents were quite wet. TFTH

Not too busy here today. A bit of persistence paid off. Mountain looking beautiful at the moment.
Tried to get this one a couple of days ago but too much snow in car park to even get in it. So nice to be able to grab this one today. Took a bit of searching. Lovely spot. Tftc
Mountain cache missions, log full. This place brings me childhood memories. Tftc
Looked and looked but a DNF today. I see its been found since I was here, better go to Specsavers!. TFTC
On our New Zealand Trip we are of course also visiting the Tongariro Nationalpark. We looked for and found quite a few caches, doing some shorter walks here and there. This was one if them Tftc!
Our journey continues north. Here we spend a few days in the Tongariro National Park. Got first impressions today and found a few geocaches. Beautiful places.
Have looked for this a few times on different visits. Today the coords has us in a slightly different spot so we zeroed in, and it was soon spotted by jillopy. Nice to change to a smilie. TFTC!
We arrived yesterday evening in Ohakune and had a look on the weather forecast for today. It wasn’t that good but left some hope in the morning.
So first thing this morning, take the route up mt Ruapehu, which was visible from below. On the way back from the Waitonga Falls we tried to find this cache. Took some time, but hint and coordinates are ok. It’s just a bit surprising, there would be other hides more compatible with a national park.
Thank you for the cache, and merry Christmas

It’s either just to well hidden and we suck, or it’s gone! Or we suck. Hunted high and low and stuck out hands in some interesting places but no joy. Any tips would be much appreciated!
Gps finally calmed down and after negating the swarm of mozzies apleseed2 let out the triumphant words: "Got it!"
Luck was on our side to day as we decided to head up the mountain with EyespyBen
Mr ABCDF4 got this one

Mr Cacher finally found the little bugger after we both spent ages searching in places that matched the hint. Great hide, TFTC
No luck for me here today. Looks like I'm in good company with DNF too. Another time
We missed this one on our way in but stopped again on our way out as I twisted my ankle and needed to put it in cold water. I ended up asking the wifey to check her and there and there it was. TFTC
Had a good look around, but there’s a lot of caves, decided after a few minutes to move on.
Thanks anyway!

On Tippy Top cache trip with DavidsonClan, having done the summit cache in the morning there was time and energy left to find some more caches before it's time to head home.
No probs with this one, took a few minutes of searching but soon found the right mini cave.

Spent a ages looking no luck. No bear in the obvious cave. Tried to use previous logs for help but still no luck. Better luck next time.
Had a wee hunt after doing a recce for the Goat. Took us a bit of hunting! Lovely spot though
Today I travelled up to Horopito to replace my missing PWGT geocache at Smash Palace, with the added incentive of a new Reach the Peak mountain to climb.
Having completed that assignment, I’ve returned to geocache my way up the mountain road.
This old cache is my fourteenth find today of sixteen, at 14:00.
I missed it on the way up as the carpark was ‘choka’ full. Not so on the way back down the road.
In the seventies I came up this road regularly to stay at the Massey University Alpine Club hut. The road was metalled all the way and only occasionally graded of snow in Winter. Fun was had just getting to MUAC. I remember about 1976 (?) when the first chairlifts and buildings were erected upgrading the Broadbent’s rope-tow ski run to the facilities at Turoa now.
We used to drive up on Friday night irrespective of the conditions or depth of snow on the road, just driving on top of the icy crust of the snow drifts. Hairy fun driving downhill. More fun driving it after a couple of hours at the pub in Ohakune. **NOTHING like that nowadays.**
Beauty cache. Tethered is good. Deserves another FP. TFTC
Oh, and I added a fresh RITR log to the cache as the existing one was full (and really difficult to right on.)

A nice quick find thanks. I thought that the cache was gone as there was a zip lock bag nearby. But no, all is good.
Time for another trip to the North Island for Ms_KR and me. Wellington and beyond here we come. Today we cruised around Ohakune, until the engine cooked that is. It would have to be New Years Eve.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Thanks KiwiRambo for the cache. It’s #1552 for us. We found your cache on 29 December 2021. Nice hide in a very cool place. Love that write in the rain paper!! Log mostly full. FP from us
Beautiful drive, awesome scenery, very peaceful and relaxing. Hadn't realised just how much water i would have to cross. Maybe not the best idea to try alone. But as it is a nice muggy 17° evening i thought why not. After a bit of scouting i ditched my shoes and sucessfully made my way across. I was a relatively quick find and sign. Slightly damp but ok. Feeling very proud of my self...now to make it back without getting too immersed in nature. Thank you so much for this beautiful hide, feels like real treasure hunting
P.S. Mission successful!!

After a drive up to Turoa for some possible photos (not today, the cloud was too low) we cached our way back down the mountain. Initially searching on the wrong side of the river before trusting the GPS more and using the bridge (no rock jumping for us today!) Mr B set off to claim the rewards and returned victorious! He loved the "old fashioned cache hunting through the bush" - a great place for a cache. Many thanks for bringing us here!
Found with the help of a friendly family of geocachers
It deserves its T-rating as the easiest access is to boulder-hop across the stream which could easily involve cold wet feet or worse.

A weekend trip was planned awhile ago to venture up to national park with watcache and xsaveya and hopefully up the mountain to have a play in the snow. Having such a fun weekend and caching as well tops the weekend.

Found this one on the way back from Waitonga falls, such a fun find! I didn’t have a pen so took a photo of the log book

Had a lovely walk to the waterfall on a beautiful clear day. Picked up this cache on the way back and it proved to be a bit of a challenge. Thankfully one of us looked over to a new spot to search and on the second sweep cache was finally spotted. TFTC
It was miserable weather when I stopped here but didn't proceed... not because of the Closed sign (as the fine print said that RoundThe Mountain walkers could proceed with caution) but I think I'll come back on a sunny day.
After having beautiful weather for several days whilst we stayed at National Park, today the weather changed and we were unable to do any more hiking. Instead we came down to Ohakune, and picked up a few caches as well as heading up the Mountain Road. This one took us quite a while until I checked previous logs and had an 'aha' moment regarding which side of the stream we should be on! Didn't take too long after that and I loved the spot - a favourite from me, TFTC
Took a little detour to find this on the way back to the car from the waterfall. Had a look in some bigger caves before finding it. Interesting to see the plaque on the rock under the bridge.
Reading previous logs helps alright! Also GPS coordinates quite bang on when steady device.
Nice hide!
BTW
Yes you have to cross the stream....

quick find before getting back to the car. water very fresh even though it was a hot day. tftc
#8884. I spent the night in Ohakune before driving north to Auckland later today. Had a nice early start with a frosty morning (yep there was ice on the windscreen of the car on the last day of December). The mountain looked lovely this morning with some snow still present on the upper slopes. Decided with the fine, sunny and fairly calm weather it was perfect conditions to ascend the mountain and do a few geocaches. Parked in the carpark and headed over to the the bridge. I did walk around in circles here before deciding I needed to cross the river. Managed to boulder hop and keep my feet dry. A short search on the opposite bank soon revealed the brightly coloured cache. All good here. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks KiwiRambo for hiding it here. A wading attribute is probably required.
We finally found this one after a bit of boulder hopping and wet feet etc although it is a small walk the actual cache requires a bit more effort and as i said WET feet .
the track was officially closed when we got to the start of the track - we spoke to the Do c workers here who let us go up to this bridge, - as they were replacing the 40 year old planks further up the track and we watched the helicopter bring in the planks to the work site.
it is a tricky hide and requires patience to retrieve it .
At the beginning of a very unexpected trip travelling to central North Inland on some unusual roads and staying at a small oy of the way 'township" . we left early, travelled through Whanganui where we had morning tea, and the up to rangitau where we were staying.
thank you for this cache and info. i took quite a few photos here .

It would be helpful if the cache description or an attribute indicated that a stream crossing is required here as some logs certainly say. That is not exactly “ a small walk...on the track” as the description states.
ound by Blenheim Bear on a wee trip to Ohakune, all quite in the cave today. Thanks for the cache all good today. Blenheim Bear
Have been checking finds on my aging Montana 650 and have discovered finds from 18 months ago that I hadnt logged before. Found with Boogie-O. Nice place for a cache.
Staying with friends on a weekend of feasting and wine, out caching with Mapper Ted. A bit of a balancing act as we boulder-hopped over the stream and a quick find right where the coordinates said we would. A beautiful are, thanks for bringing us here!
Brilliant time looking with some wet feet to show our commitment, unfortunately not the rewards! Might come back tomorrow and try again.
Due to Covid, our planned UK holiday to attend the MEGA could not proceed so plan B was a timeshare stay in Paihia so we could cache around Northland. Once again this could not proceed as we could not travel through Auckland due to the Level 3 lockdown.
A last minute plan C was put into action and our timeshare week was transferred to Turangi.
Off we went on a sunny but chilly 4 deg morning and its been quite a while since we have seen any frost on the ground so a bit of a novelty for us.
Day 3 on a loop trip around the mountains, perfect weather and very little traffic today, tricky one but eventually located TFTC.

Found with our 4 and 7 y.o. Thank you KiwiRambo for making us stop here. Took us a few minutes, but it was on logical place in the end. Lovely spot.
Spent 1/2hr with miss 10 building stone towers on the river bed, so loved this location.
After a little walk to the Virtual I stepped down in the dry creek and found the little box.
Thanks for the cache says js333 from germany

Not much water to cross in the nearby stream so we were soon on the other side looking for the cache. Didn’t take long to spot the cache. The waterproof log paper was damp so we took it with us up to the virtual to dry it out. On our return down the mountain we replaced the dry log.
Found it quickly. Needs maintenance, sorry, did not carry any fresh logbook with me... TFTC
This weekend I was part of a party of 10 taking a Tramp to Blyth Hut on Ruapehu, with a view to spending the night in the Hut. This was a trip we had planned to do 2 weeks earlier but bad weather then had made us postpone it to today.
Yesterday we made our way to the hut, and I stopped to have a quick look for this cache but failed to find it initially as I was hunting in a very obvious location (as per the hint) which I found out in hindsight was the wrong place, and as I didn't want to hold the party up I knew I would have more time to search for it today.
So having spent a brilliant day and night up at Blyth, today we made our way to the car and I was able to have a proper look for this cache, and found it after a few minutes thanks to spotting its bright colour. The container seems to be in ok condition, but clearly is letting in water as the log sheets were soaking wet. But as they are waterproof paper I was able to dry them off well enough to be able to add my log entry before returning everything as found.
Thanks for placing this cache, and helping to make this a memorable weekend for me.

Had a great walk to the falls today. A winter wonderland. Snow everywhere. Love walks in the snow. Adds a something bit extra. Grab this on way back. Bit hard to sign due to it being a bit wet. But made my mark. Tftc
Down in Ohakune for the Easter Weekend.
Had driven up here to see the waterfall and had then driven up to the Ski Field. On the way back down had noted that there was a cache here. Stopped and wandered to GZ.
Mr NZT made the find but played a game with the nephews who form KapatiKids so they were also able to make the find.
Signed the log and we wandered to the bridge to take some selfies.

After two DNF next to lake Taupo we are back on the track... But I have to confess: Without looking at some fotos we would not have found the cache. The little river was completely dried out, so it was quite easy to scan the shore without getting wet feet. Just a little hint: The bridge will not make you happy.
Not sure we would find this after the last 2 DNF's but came came up.with the goods. TFTC.
We went up Mount Ruapehu by car to enjoy the view, and on our way down we stopped for a few caches. In spite of a good search, we could not find this cache.

Found after doing part of the round the mountain track the other way. A quick find after locating the correct cave. TFTC
Found after a quick jump across the stream and searched a few of the hint items.
After crossing the creek without getting wet feet it took a while before we spotted the cache. We followed the track to the next cache and then further to the water falls. TFTC
