Logs
Found but very wet so couldnt sign. Great hide - the kids had fun crawling through the bushes
Decided to check if there was something here before leaving, and I was only 20 meter away from a cache! Unfortunately, the logbook is soaked and cannot be used, and there was no pencil anymore. TFTC!
First time in a long while since I had been on this side of the mountain. GPS location was bouncing all over the place so it made finding this one a little trickier. Once found, though, the logsheet is very wet and almost unsignable, so it will need some owner attention.
With Kiwi Does Stuff making our way up the mountain, took a few walks around before spotting the obvious, log was wet but managed a scribble! TFTC!
Start of July, that means first day for visiting snow for myself and Reschedule. This year we decided to go all the way around the the southern slopes, and proceeded via Ohakune to Turoa. A successful find here by Reschedule. TFTC
Good find by Mr PorknPuha, on our way up the mountain.A nice, quick, easy, find, grab, sign, and flee.TFTC
The ladies in the camper must be wondering why people keep disappearing into the bushes today Took me & CrystalFairy a few minutes to locate this one. Helpful to read it wasnt in the harekeke. Thanks Hawirawhanau!
We are spending the night here.. and there is a cache! Sought for a while and found it. Not too wet. Logging was possible. Tftc
10 February 2024 17:03 TFTC Hawirawhanau for placing this cache, number 13355 for me. Well, I have had several attempts at this one, but muggled out. Today when I arrived, the area was empty, so I could search undisturbed. And search I did ... But eventually abandoned the attempt as I wanted to make sure I found some caches further up the mountain. Mission accomplished there, so I returned to give this yet another try. No luck, so PAF (just enough reception). That wasn't a lot of help, but must have jiggled something in my cortex, as when I headed back for one final sweep I spotted something where I hadn't really looked before and there it was!
Caching the weekend of The Wandering Dragons 60th. Did with BFG in the afternoon. Got to GZ and there were lots of people in their camper vans. Luckily the cache is out of sight. Took us quite a while to spot this one and thanks to the previous cacher who said it's not a flax cache. That saved us countless hours Thanks for the cache.
It took a while to spot it, but didnt give up and got rewarded at last Cache in poor condition, quite moist inside. Tried to dry it and the log a bit in the sun before leaving, hopefully it helped. TFTC!
A bit tricky at first but previous logs definitely helped especially capperz. Interesting spot, TFTC
Found it with Ted. Crawling is required.Tgijk outside the box and don't rely on the navigation. The map is off a bit
A great ride up from Orlando township. No one camping so we could have a good search. Spotted it straight away, signed the log and took the TB. TFTC
We were about to give up after quite some time searching flax but my mum pointed out some unusual ##### (not telling) we found it! TFTC
We arrived yesterday evening in Ohakune and had a look on the weather forecast for today. It wasn’t that good but left some hope in the morning.
So first thing this morning, take the route up mt Ruapehu, which was visible from below. After the Waitonga and Mangawhero Falls we did some caches on the way down. Beautiful camping place here. We were nearly to give up, when I discovered the box at a logical location, matching the hint.
Thank you for the cache, and merry Christmas

Couldn't find it. Will have to come back and have another look another time. Good thing I'm a local
Phone was showing a slightly different location, but after a very quick response from the CO, cache was signed. Very cold and drizzly here, 0.5degC this morning. Off to levin today. TFTC
After FTFing a nearby cache this rainy Saturday morning, FMZ suggested we drop by and find this as well. Handy location, noted a spot for future camping plans. Nice and easy find. TFTC!
After getting an FTF a little further up the valley, Jagersmum and I decided to stop by this cache on the way out. Parked up right next to it as the campsite was empty. At first I thought it was going to be a flax search and I was about to give up but Jagersmum encouraged me to have another look based on previous logs so I got in there and it was a nice quick find. Log sheet was interesting compared to online logs... are there multiple containters here? Anyway, TFTC!!!
Having a weekend away skiing. Staying nearby so quickly had this in hand. Tftc
Away for the weekend skiing, so thought it about time to grab this one, especially as we were staying nearby. A beautiful day today. Tftc
A long overdue trip to Ohakune and Mount Ruapehu area was just the ticket for today and careful watching of the weather meant this would be the day. I have a new Ad Lab series to place and we decided Ohakune would be a good site. Also keen to get the Virtual on the waterfall walkway and track and lunch in the pub was a winter warmer too. Only 6 cache finds but good to blow the winter cobwebs off the 'GPS' and get the boots on my feet again. Thanks all COs.
First stop off here on a small side diversion and soon at the camping area parking spot. A quick sidle and circle of the flax led me to be eye to eye with the prize at the rear and all was good here.

Great find in a very rainy day. Got us out the bach and moving. Walked up to the campsite. Despite visiting ohakune at least once a year for the past 15 years this is the first time we have done this walk and visited the campsite. Thanks
Teamed up with Geckoh this weekend to climb to the top of Ruapehu to get the Tippy Top cache. After climbing Ruapehu we decided we had enough energy to carry on geocaching and concentrated on clearing Ohakune and then cache our way home. We weren’t to hopeful of this cache with the DNF but were lucky it was a reasonably quick find coordinates were good and hint helped. Cache in good condition.

On Tippy Top cache trip with DavidsonClan, having done the summit cache in the morning there was time and energy left to find some more caches before it's time to head home.
This one had a few DNF's on it, but we were confident as there are usually a few sprinkled in amongst the finds, luckily we were on the plus side of the ledger!
I went into the growth a bit too far down and ended up crawling further than I needed to!!

Too many things growing. Not a great location. Maybe better to hide at the toilets.
Today the plan was to replace my missing PWGT geocache at Smash Palace at Horopito with the added incentive of a new Reach the Peak mountain to climb.
Having completed that assignment, I’ve returned to geocache my way up the mountain road from Ohakune.
Parked close to GZ, then noticed two other campers hidden among the bush opposite.
Hidden by my car I attempted a find, but the hint is a bit too random for me. Cut my hand on the toitoi / cutty grass. Another time I guess. Unfortunately this was my only DNF with sixteen successful finds
I’ve camped here twice, before this cache was placed. It is a lovely spot when the weather is good. Once was in mid-winter. That was a cold night!

Yay after a year lockd dwn we made it back to find this cache. Real hot day time 4 a dip in the Mangawhero. Love being h0me.x0x
We attempted this last night but a campervan was parked right beside GZ. Returned to the mountain today and on the way up it was pouring with rain so left it for on the way back. Only one car in the campsite when we returned down the mountain but unfortunately the drizzle stayed with us. Spent 15 minutes searching & even found the pile of georocks referred to in earlier logs but no success with the cache for us today.
The GPS was jumping all over the place here but with a few of us looking it did not take too Oops long to locate this guy

A weekend trip was planned awhile ago to venture up to national park with watcache and xsaveya and hopefully up the mountain to have a play in the snow. Having such a fun weekend and caching as well tops the weekend. nice tidy campsite only 2 vehicles here.

Got the day off work so heading up to National Park. Collecting some caches on the way. This looks a great campsite. Completely empty today. Found the cache without having to dive in too deep. Log starting to disintegrate. Could do with some TLC. Thanks for the smiley.
Took a trip from Taranaki to National Park for the long weekend to walk the Tongariro crossing again but the weather wasn't playing the same game as us so instead I got some more caches around the area that I missed out on last month while over here.
Took a trip around the mountain revisiting places we haven't been for some time and getting a few caches along the way, forgot how long and step the road up to Turoa was
Thanks to the CO'S for the placement and maintenance up in this area.
Apologies for the generic logs

March has been such a busy month, but not so much with getting out and about to indulge in finding some caches for myself. So what better way to remedy this than have a few days away in an area not previously cached out?
Cue a weekend of touring around the Tongariro National Park in good company. Exactly what I needed, and a weekend that would see me find over a hundred caches, including getting my 4000th.
It was a 2 hour drive after work today to get to Ohakune, which was to be our base for 2 nights. I didn't worry about caching much on the way up until after I have unpacked my car at the campground, when I decided to grab a few before the light failed me.
In spite of it being a Friday evening, the whole area was very quiet so I was able to search without having to worry much about Muggles. The main issue here for me was the cutty grass, which managed to get some DNA out of me a couple of times before I switched my focus to the back after which the cache was a reasonably quick find, and I was able to sign and replace the log without issue.
Thanks for setting up and maintaining this cache.

After a few hours on the mountain managed to convince family to stop on the way to Ohakune to find this geocache. Log is a bit damp but able to be signed. Tftc
stopped here after our day walk to blyth hut . parked near gz. found a likely rock but no cach. went around to the other side of the bushes and was rewarded. mind you don't get cut on the toitoi but do look here. tftc. only 2 groups in the camp this afternoon.
No joy here today. Parked close to GZ and spent a good 10-15 minutes hunting around under the flax and toitoi bushes and other trees and shrubs near the campsite. Found a couple of rocks under the flax but no cache with them. Not sure if they were the georocks mentioned by previous geocachers. Looked everywhere but no cache showed itself. Either its muggled or I need to invest in some new glasses.
had our lunch here on this day of our touring
At the beginning of a very unexpected trip travelling to central North Inland on some unusual roads and staying at a small oy of the way 'township" . we left early, travelled through Whanganui where we had morning tea, and the up to rangitau where we were staying.
thank you for this cache and info.

I had a quick look for this a couple of weeks ago but was raining so left for another day. Made sure I got the right camp spot last night to get first thing. Quick find in the dry. Wrapped some duct tape over the holes but not sure if will last. At least seems to be self draining
Found by Blenheim Bear on a wee trip for a weekend in Ohakune. Thanks for the cache all good today. Blenheim Bear agreed with last catcher, looks like rats have had a go.
We are on a ten day road trip to Taranaki, The Forgotten Highway, Taumaranui, Ohakune and back home to Palmy. Along the way will be sightseeing, short mountain walks, museum visits, a rail cart journey and, of course, geocaching.
Now it’s Day 8 and we travelled down to Ohakune from Taumaranui, enjoying a lovely drive and the day becoming sunny and warm.
Once we reached Ohakune we had a little time to spare before going to our AirBNB, so what better to do than a geocache?!
This was the nearest. It looks a nice campsite, but it was empty today. We found the cache quite quickly as the coordinates brought us very close, but it was a bit of a scrabble around to reach. The container is cracking around the bottom (just from the plastic getting brittle we think) and may fall out soon. It will need replacing. Thanks for bringing us here Hawirawhanau.

This geocacher reported that the container is damaged.
Bottom of container is breaking.

Have been checking finds on my aging Montana 650 and have discovered finds from 18 months ago that I hadnt logged before. Found with Boogie-O. GPS struggled to settle so scrambled among the scrub for a while.
Staying with friends on a weekend of feasting and wine, out caching with Mapper Ted. This one took a bit of searching, coordinates weren't very far out but the hint was a bit vague. Eventually spotted it using a hint in a previous log entry. TFTC.
We had a picnic here on our wedding day twelve years ago. While driving through Ohakune today, we brought the kids here for a picnic lunch and I spotted there was a cache here. Thanks!
Found with our 4 and 7 y.o. about 20m from GPS coordinates, right in the middle of the path. There is evidence of rat chewing the container. We returned it back to where our gps was pointing at, amongst the georocks.
We have just replaced with a fresh cache. It is now good to go! Happy caching!!!
Had a go0d lil lo0k.
Signs of high activity in the area! Feels like muggles been lo0t'n.lol.

Tftc. What a neat little camping spot. Kids are keen to camp here now. Log a little wet, hopefully it dried out some in this beautiful sun.
Second find ever!!! Easy find and found it right away! Wet-ish container and it’s not really green anymore, more white with green paint spots. Still really fun!
A quick find, and did it as a driveby today while exploring the area. Great campsite, and nobody else here today. TFTC
The frontal approach did it. The pencil is missing and it’s very wet. Might need to be replaced soon
Had great day up here. Did a walk to the Waitonga Falls in the snow. Winter wonderland up there today. Grab this on the way back down. Tftc
