We have visited quite a few memorials and the centre dedicated to this man who deserves our respect. TFTC
Found at 3:02 PM GAFF3.Such an out of the way location for a hospital that was serviced by medical staff. So Flynn didn't actually come out here, but was the one who designed the hospital. A bit like Mary Mackillop in what she achieved in setting up schools - she wasn't physically there to all of them!A nice hide that is a bit exposed, but a very good indicator for us geocachers Thanks to gingernut_chestnutsFeedback: Why aren't these caches safe to do at night? Is there wildlife that attacks you at night?

WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 121 - Derby to Fitzroy Crossing. After a hot stay in Derby, it was time to start moving again. It was not a long day, just a steady day of driving with two stops along the way and some caching in Fitzroy Crossing as I had a look around this community. It was nice to catch up with a local cacher gingernut_chestnuts. The new Bridge is very impressive, but they are still working on the highway and secondary bridges. I sampled the pool at the caravan park in the evening and then cooked dinner before trying to sleep in the warm still night.I failed to find this back in 2018, and I am not sure if it was missing, or I just did not go inside the gate. Today spoke to gingernut_chestnuts who had confirmed it was not there and came up with a new hide. I hope this one survives the next flood. Nice to meet a local. Thanks for the cache gingernut_chestnuts48919.4 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & Leaping into 2020 A#414**Albida**
This cache has gone missing. Owner will attempt to get this up and going again soon.
Woo hoo - I found 'Flynn of the Inland' today but writing on the log sheet was tricky. I'm on a 14 day tour of the Kimberley area with Kimberley Wild and 19 Muggles. today we went down to the old crossing to here Jane talk about her culture and the history of our First Nation's people in and around Fitzroy Crossing
No luck for us today. I really wanted to get one at Fitzroy Crossing. The only thing I did get was the shit frightened out of me by a spider that came out from behind the Plaque okay
When GreyHams discovered a great deal to relocate a motor home from Broome to Darwin, things quickly slotted into place to head out for another adventure together. Three planes and a full day of travelling later we arrived in Broome, with the most amazing orange sunset out the windows of the plane.
Plenty of time to discover a few of Broomes caches and places before collecting our wheels the following morning. It slept 6 and had all the luxuries, it was huge, climbing up into it there was no going back and off we set!
The drive was full of changing scenery. Loved the Boab trees in all their different shapes and mass numbers, termite mounds and the red earth. Wildlife lined the roads, always cattle but birds, wild horses, snakes, dingo's, pigs and even buffalo! Stunning rock formations, waterways and even many little fires it was a great drive stopping for the caches as we passed... but no crocs (sad face!)
Leaving Broome we had overnight stays in Fitzroy Crossing, Kununarra and Timber Creek, great places but the highlight being the Lazy Lizard in Timber Creek. Passing through Halls Creek, Katherine and even Kakadu among many other little towns and stops along the way added to a great trip. The van was comfortable and a novel way to travel, the caches spread out over big distances a chance to stretch the legs.
Arriving into Darwin and the van returned it was into town for a few must find caches, and to explore the town, a tad warmer than we were used to at 33C!
Many thanks to all the COs of the caches we stopped at along the way and that added to the enjoyment of the trip.

Aquilus1 & I decided at short notice to add another 'crazy' trip to our growing list of adventures. Flying from Canberra to Broome and driving a 'war rig' huge campervan from Broome to Darwin. It could sleep 6! The hire itself cost almost nothing as it was on a 'relocation' deal.
We arrived too late to pick up the bus on our first day....not surprising really as it took 3 flights to get there. The hotel we stayed at in Broome at had a "competition" on the night we arrived and several barmaids in odd clothing.... "Welcome to WA" it would seem.
After picking up the battleship, we proceeded easterly on our adventure. In three days we would see Fitzroy's Crossing, Hall's Creek, Kununurra, Timber Creek, Katherine, Pine Creek, Kakadu & Darwin, as well as a lot of road.
No crocs spotted, but we did see dingo's, water buffalo, horses, lots of birds & cows.
Favourite stop by a mile was in Pine Creek, at the Lazy Lizard. Very cool and also the cheapest!
Thanks to all the CO's for placing.

Great location for a cache, thank you for maintaining it. A good idea to have this monument in recognition of Flynn's great work.
Stopped here for a quick stop - and a cache. Found it with goingplaces2 and added our names to the log. Thank you to gingernut_chestnuts; flim&flick for placing this cache.
We are still heading west with ilook4geo and picking up some caches along the way. This one didn't stay hidden for very long and we are happy to claim the find after signing the log. This is a part of our history well worth celebrating. All was replaced as it had been found. Thanks for placing this cache go to gingernut_chestnuts; flim&flick.
Day 21 of the long road trip from Perth to the Townsville Mega via the southern states and then back to Perth again via the northern part of Australia.
Today was basically from south of Kununurra to a late at night viisit into Derby with another big stopover Halls Creek to wait for a tire puncture to be repaired. Lucky that the only repair place available was still open.
This cache found without problems. Log signed and the cache returned as it was found.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for cachers to find.

A quick find although the tin was pushed in so far it took ages to manoeuvre it out. The rocks were boiling hot as well so take care in the sun. TFTC
Nice quick find after a walk in Geike Gorge.

Tftc interesting history. Visited Fitzroy Crossing in 1997 & I’m happy to say the township has come along way. I popped more log in a plastic bag & placed in the new container with swaps. Have given this one a favourite
We are spending a few weeks travelling to some of Western Australia's warmer regions and grabbing a couple of the LGAs that I need.
I went out for a morning run today. We were staying at the caravan park in town and I did not know if there was a track through to this one so I really didn't expect to make a find so I didn't take my pen with me.
It turns out there is a footbridge across the river that I used to get to the cache but had nothing to sign it with.
So after we had packed up and left the caravan park we called back in here on our way to the gorge to sign the log. All good now.
This was find number 1 for the day.

Out for a drive today, noticed a few comments in past logs mentioning the container had been missing.
We have put a replacement container at gz, I hope that’s ok to keep the cache active in such a special spot.
Thanks for sharing this interesting location, great artwork in the makings just down the track to see as well.

Easy find but as others have noted, the container is missing. No pen but here's a photo of the log.
Found it after some driving to get there ... was out of range so it took some guess work!
Thank you! I headed off on a two week group tour of the Kimberley, from Broome to Kununurra via the Gibb River Road, then back via the Great Northern Highway. Being an organised trip, all caching was opportunistic rather than planned.
We stopped to see the old bridge, so after a quick look myself, I headed off to find this cache. Happy to make the find.

Did circles for a while before we used logic and found cache log book, thought missing its container. Thanks for bringing us here. Good bituminous road other than the last little bit.
Had three weeks holiday so decided on a massive road trip to the most northern part of the state - the Kimberley. An area we have never explored, but had always been on the to do list. We travelled through the towns of Mount Magnet, Newman, Port Hedland, Broome, Halls Creek, Kununurra, back to Broome, Karratha, Exmouth, Denham, Geraldton and back home to Perth. It certainly was a very quick trip for the distance covered, over 8,000 kilometres in total, we saw a lot in such a short space of time, but barely scratched the surface of what’s out in these parts.
We would like to thank the individual COs for hiding the caches throughout these parts, from the towns to the highways and byways. Thank you for choosing to share these locations with us and we appreciate the effort you have gone to. Thanks for the fun.

Today our tour - which began in Perth, WA , and led us thru Western, Northern and Southern Australia back to Perth, was simply driving from Broome to Fitzroy Crossing.
On the way we came to some interesting locations. Here we searched, found and logged this Tradi-Cache.
Weather was good in the morning and it should even get better during the day.
Thanks to 'gingernut_chestnuts; flim&flick' for showing us this location, for the fun we had with 'Flynn of the Inland' and the smiley. The search here and today didn't take too much time, fortunately.
Greetings from Germany and we hope to see you soon in the forest, prairie, desert or outback .

Called in here after organising my accomodation and checking out the old crossing which would have been a bit tricky in its day.
I have done a few caches dedicated to this great man.
He did a lot for the outback organising all of the medical needs back then.
Thanks gingernut-chestnuts; TFTC.

Went down to look at the old crossing. Bit dusty down there. On the way back made the stop and had a look. Sneaky hide. Thanks for the cache.
Thank you. I’m a nurse and found this particular hide exceptionally informative.
First cache found on trip from to Broome to Bungle Bungle Ranges. A very interesting area. TFTC

couple of caches. This was the first one. We were excited
to also come across the old crossing which we had to use
way back in 1971. Great memories for us. We also remember
the Hospital which was here as well. Thanks to John Flynn for
all he did for the people in remote areas.
Found, signed and replaced as found.

This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 9832. We found this as part of our 2018 Round Australia trip.
We found this one on the way back from the gorge this morning. What a great history that we would have missed otherwise.
Thanks gingernut_chestnuts for the cache.

Out and about with Megawat60 and MY4B on our northern adventure to conquer the mighty Gibb River Road and claim caches as we go.
We stopped to grabbed this one after walking across the old crossing. Couldn't find it but placed a new one after consulting with M4YB and Megawat60 who had found it previously.
Thanks for the cache

The Big Western Australia trip in 2018. Day 16. After a leisurely start from El Questro I headed back to the bitumen and SW along the Northern Highway to Halls Creek.
After having been foiled at the old crossing I reached the monument and had a look around. I did not manage to locate a cache here today.
Thanks.

We expanded our search just to double check but still nothing.
One for next time maybe.

After stopping at Gnumban Rest Area last night and had howling winds that woke me at 2.30am we were off to a very early start this morning
This was our first stop but unfortunately no luck. Had a good look but maybe we were just too tired to see
I'm sure we'll be up this way again in years to come
Thanks anyway

Tagging along with the "Rats" on holidays has it's advantages, not only do we get to see our cool country but we also get to do a heap of caching as Dad just can't help himself and has to stop at every cache he can.
Heading across Australia on nearly every dirt road possible we stopped and found your cache as part of our adventure and for that, I thank you! Sorry about the log being a "cut n paste" but tthats just because we stopped at so many caches.

Apologises for the late log in some cases but we are only just catching up on our logging now that we have arrived back home. Your cache makes up many of the great memories we now have from the adventure. The faceplate style log doesn't detract from the experience we had finding the cache.
Thanks

TFTC. Sl. Found after doing the boat tour at Geikie gauge then checking out the old river crossing now blocked with sand.
We stayed at Warmum roadhouse last night and are making our way towards Broome and of course stopping for any cache that might pop up along the way.
The Reverend John Flynn certainly had a great dream and worked very hard to make it come true. He changed the lives of many people living in the outback, especially in the early days when vehicles and even roads were unreliable as a mode of transport so it is great that he is being remembered for what he achieved and his idea's are still in place today but over a much larger area. We spotted an easy way into this one but unfortunately it didn't work out as planned as the crossing was closed so we had to do a u-turn and come in from a different direction.
The well hidden cache was a nice easy find and a bit bigger than what we were expecting to see and our name has now been added to the log.
Thanks for the cache and for bring us here.

On the second stage of our year long caching holiday around Australia - after a visit back home to Darwin we are heading west ... Found after setting up camp and checking out the local caches - interesting piece of history ... Thanks gingernut chestnuts ... 4TC:)

We had left home in Adelaide five weeks ago and traveled to Darwin and now on our way west.

Our current visit to Australia had been in the planning for over a year with the very significant help and advice from friends who live in Melbourne. The original plan was for a 2 month visit, but as things progressed we just couldn't help extending our trip to the full 90 days allowed on our visas - after all it's a big country and so much to see and do, especially with our favourite pastimes being birding, hiking and of course geocaching! Our journey started with our arrival at Perth airport followed by a day cycling around Rottnest Island before travelling on to Adelaide where we met up with our friends. We then continued on to spend some time on Kangaroo Island, before heading to Melbourne via Goolwa, Strathalbyn, Coorong, Mount Gambier, Cape Bridgewater, the Grampians National Park, Port Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne, cramming in as much as possible on route. The second leg of our journey was a fabulous 9 days in Tasmania. Having then returned to Melbourne we set off on the third leg of our journey, which was to Sydney via Wilson’s Promontory, Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota, Pambula Beach, Thredbo, Canberra and Fitzroy Falls. We then spent a few days in Sydney with geocaching friends before flying on to the Gold Coast for the fourth leg of our travels, that included visits to Lamington National Park, Noosa and an overnight trip out to Fraser Island. We then flew from Brisbane to Cairns, where we spent a couple of nights before heading out to the birding hotspots of Yungaburra and Daintree. Following on from a visit to Cape Tribulation we turned to Port Douglas. After a day out on the Great Barrier Reef we returned to Cairns for the flight to Alice Springs and the fifth leg of our travels, which was a wonderful week driving the circuit to and from Ayers Rock in our 4x4 camper. On returning to Alice Springs we then flew on to Darwin, where we picked up another 4x4 camper. We are currently making our way towards Broome via Kakadu, Cooinda, Pine Creek, Edith Falls, Katherine, Nitmiluk, Timber Creek, Lake Argyle, Kununurra, Emma Gorge, El Questro, the Bungle Bungle’s, Fitzroy Crossing, Geikie Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge and Derby. Our last two nights in Australia will be spent in Broome before we fly back to Perth, from where we will connect with the flight all the way back home to Zimbabwe via South Africa. We already know we can't wait to return!
This was a nice quick find at Ground Zero on our way to Geike Gorge. Thanks so much for the cache and for having bought us to this interesting spot.
