We are a tourist group from Austria and travelling through the outback. The bus driver stopped here and gave us 20 minutes. Enough for me to get to the lake. I have sent answers to owner. Photo is attached. Thanks for showing this beautiful spot.
Im so pleased we camped hereladt night to see the lake first thing in good light. After the eathcache was completed it was great to explore and great to sea the water and new crystal.Last night we were travelling late, pulled into Lake Hart to stop for the night. It was a busy rest stop, we circled to look at our options then out. Returning back in, a nice pull in well out of the way on the road in. Camp set up, a number of trains went past through the night, had spotted The Ghan, based on timetables, but another passenger train also. Really pleased to wake here, it's a stunning salt lake. Full of water and the edges of salt crystal. Had a great time exploring and even a freight train through as we stood btmy the tracks. Another stunning blue sky and warm weather made for great scenery.Packed up and heading south, it was a return to NASA'S first space centre in Australia, all cleared now but roads, deap eroded roads, but stunning with salt lakes of islands and outback landscape.Got in and out okay, off down the road a bit to see where zone 39 was filmed, apoplectic film and just the right location! A ruined bunker from the movie still there and relics over a crazy fascinating landscape. It took a but to get too. Took the van in a bit too far but found a turn spot without incident. Unhitched and carried on. Needed the 4X4 and low gear but worth it.A top up shop in Port Augusta, then through the bottom of the Flinders.so green and lush given the outback baren of yesterday and set up late in Manning Hill to set up camp and cook dinner. Thanks for your cache to enjoy!
Day four of the road trip to Coober PedyLeft Coober Pedy for the longest driving day of the trip, to Whyalla. Picked up a few caches missed on the way to Coober Pedy and didn't arrive in Whyalla until almost five. After checking in, there wasn't a lot of light left so cached the longest past dark for the trip to get the two AdLabs and quite a few others as well. Another good day with lotsa miles and lotsa caches. As we were caching together and she almost volunteered am hoping that SA Sewer Rats's answers will be accepted for me as well Thanks to Darth Briji for adding to the playing field with this cache.Smilie #15154.*This log composed and published using GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife).*
Day 4 of our 5 day trip to Coober Pedy.Today found us travelling to Whyalla. This is a fun trip for SA Sewer Rats and ttrogg. We stopped here to gather our answers.Answers sent to CO.Tftc
frmen1 and I are exploring outback SA at the moment. What a great spot! Answers sent into CO. The salt lake near us is a pond compared to this. A train rattled past as we were working on our answers. TFTC
Great to be here, on our way up here for a big 10 week adventure around the side of the world and up to Birdsville, then Cape York
TFTC Thank you for creating this cache. You have shown us a new place and have helped make geocaching an enjoyable activity.
Stopped in here on way back from CP. Walked down to the lake. Saw 2 trains but not the Ghan. Unfortunately. Fascinating area. Thanks for bringing us here. Tftc
While planning the itinerary for our next big roadtrip that bypasses this area, I noticed that we hadnt logged this find from when we went from Adelaide to Coober Pedy one Xmas. Must have been too absorbed in the moment because I remember it was disgustingly hot and the flies were swarming so bad that we rushed the 1km to the lakes edge through the rail tunnel and were dehydrated by the time we got back to the carpark. But it was totally worth it!! Shortly after that we stopped in at Woomera and bought fly nets for our hats
EC visited 8.4.24We were back in Australia for a family visit and some outback exploring, a most interesting trip which started in Quorn, Leigh Creek, then 3 nights in Arkaroola and 6 ECs. Fantastic area.Arriving in Marree, we thought we would be stuck there, as all the tracks were red/closed when we arrived for the night. We changed all our plans and an hour later we had to reinstate them as the dit.sa.gov.au site showed the track open again. We were then able to complete the Oodnadatta Track without being stranded after a lot of rain and the track stayed open all the way. Great fun passing a lot of flooded creeks on the way to Marla with a convoy of 5 other cars, we kept meeting at night or passing on the Track. From Marla, we headed on towards Coober Pedy and made a detour to the Breakaways, then along the Dog Fence. We arrived at Out of this world EC before reaching Coober Pedy, where we stayed a couple of days. We met a lot of different people, got talking about life of all sorts, met The Noodler in their home, chatted to golf players, and to lots of itinerant workers, French, Argentine, Italian, Chilean, met grey nomads, all very interesting encounters. We even crossed Curly running on the Stuart Highway, 110kms north of Cooper Pedy. He was harnessed to his trailer and waved cheerfully. We got to know who he was later, all because of geocaching and a log by Morgo the geo, his supporting team. Curly is running the whole length of Australia to Darwin after running the length of New Zealand. What an enterprise, fantastic and crazy, all while smiling. We had selected a few ECs on the way, our favourite pastime , in stunning colourful landscapes. Such a beautiful country! We made our way back after 2 weeks of fun & discovery, with the last night in Melrose, a nice oldish town. This was the 13th day of our adventure.Thank you Darth Briji for creating this EC in an amazing landscape. So much to discover on that trip, which well remember well! A FP.Greetings pilot03 EC # 977 of 4571 caches
Love this place and so glad to be finally able to camp here. Took a good walk to get all three caches placed here in the surrounds. Very crunchy underfoot. Glows white in the moknlight.
Together with Travelser I'm going Down Under. We are driving around with a motorhome. Started on the 17th September in Cairns. Our plan is driving.along the eastcoast down. Then in the south on to Adelaide and from there ending the 31th October in Alice Springs.During our trip we of course search for several caches. Most of them brought us to very nice spots, like this one.All the CO's, and in this case Darth Briji, thanks for bringing us here and give our trip a special accent.
On my roundtrip along Australia with Oopie we are douing always some caches.Today we ware on the way from Adelaide to Alice Springs and we did a few nice caches. So we make the answers together and with yor permission Oopie wil sent the answers.CO thanks for bringing us on this nice place and make this cache.
Such a beautiful spot never seen anything like this before thanks so much for bringing us here. Cheers, cobber
Found by The Empire + HThe journey from Port Augusta to Coober Pedy was an adventure like no other. As we left the coastal town behind, we ventured deep into the heart of the Australian outback. The landscape unfolded before us, a vast canvas of red earth and desert scenery. The road ahead was a marvel of straightness, disappearing into the distance as far as the eye could see. These long, straight stretches seemed to symbolize the boundless expanse of the outback, where the horizon met the sky in a seamless blend of colors. As we approached Lake Hart, the landscape transformed before our eyes. The vibrant hues of red earth and golden grasses gradually gave way to an otherworldly expanse of white. Lake Hart stretched out before us, its vast salt flats shimmering in the intense outback sun.The first thing that struck us was the sheer whiteness of it all. The salt crust covering the lake was blindingly bright, creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere. It was as if we had stumbled upon a hidden realm of pure, untouched whiteness in the middle of the desert. We ventured out onto the lake, cautiously stepping onto the crunchy salt crust. It felt solid beneath our feet, providing a surreal contrast to the soft, shifting sands of the surrounding desert. The sensation of walking on salt was both strange and exhilarating.Answers sent. Thanks for the earthcache Darth Briji.- MEarthcache #400
The lake was pretty much all dried up when we saw it, but all the salt was still beautiful in the brown landscape
Nice walk to the salt lake we were here 15 years ago and there was a lot more evidence of industrial activity
This is a great cache. What a beautiful place to stop. Thankfully there’s a caravan stop right by here too so we get to see it at sunset and sunrise too. We hadn’t seen a salt lake on this trip before and the kids were very excited! Messaged answers for approval
Another stop to indulge my weird fascination with salt lakes. After lunch we wandered around out on the relatively dry surface at the edge of the lake. According to an article I found on Trove, Lake Hart has the highest quality salt in Australia!

Travelling with iluvtrekking from WA up the coast to NT and down through the Centre to SA and back home over the Nullabor. After spending a couple of nights in Coober Pedy, we headed twds Woomera picking hides along the route. Made our observations which have been sent to the CO.
Travelling with richlink from Perth to Darwin up along the west coast and home again through the centre and the Nullarbor, picking up caches along the way. Moving day. Today, we are off to Roxby Downs. This is one of the caches we found on our route. We wandered around looking for the required information, a most impressive lake. Thanks Darth Briji
Day 22 of our greynomad trip up north and after a the JLWEvents, a tour of Maralinga and caching to claim LGAs in the Eyre Peninsula, we are attempting to escape the southern weather that has been wet and windy.
Today was cold but dry, so needing a break from driving we stopped and walked to this area. Kids that were in a caravan next to us in Woomera climbed to the top of the mound, but they didn't want to put that salt on there chips.
TF Earth Cache TB's visited.

Great area to explore! We arrived after a couple of days rain so there was plenty of water in the lake. A week earlier and it was dry as.

WOW….. what an interesting piece of history. I did a bit of research and learnt some more things about this salt lake.
Almost 100 years ago more than 50 men worked on this lake harvesting salt. That is hard to get your head around, especially the fact of how isolated and far away from Port Augusta they were, no bitumen roads in them days. They depended on a weekly food train to bring their stores to them! And I’m guessing a good shot with a rifle Such harsh conditions, no air con back then either! And we think we have it hard.
Thank you for bringing me here. Such an interesting history lesson.
I have sent my answers.

Amazing, took a sneaky stroll on the lake, ankle deep water. Tasted it... it was salty

Together with my favorite geocacher Milonguera we traveled to Australia We went to Melbourne via Singapore and from there we explore the south, the center and the east coast.
We walked around Melbourne and had a nice meet & greet event. Than we visited Philip Island with the pinguins and the Great Ocean Road. We fed and petted kangaroos visited the koalas and continued north to Coober Pedy.
**Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for showing the location and for hiding the cache. You should come to Berlin in Germany to find a lot of interesting geocaches, visit lost places in the surrounding Brandenburg and meet nice people at many events.
I wish you a lot of fun and great adventures while searching for the next geocache!**
Ich bedanke mich bei Darth Briji für den Cache, das Zeigen dieses Ortes, das Legen und Pflegen der Dose und den Spaß beim Finden! Thanks for the cache!

We travelled 8,500km through 5 states for a 60th birthday party over approx. 6 weeks. We endured many days over 35C and then saw a lot of water in the eastern states. We enjoyed travelling east with family and then they travelled back to Alice and we made our way home to SA, trying to dodge the rain and wet weather.
Caching is a great way to see the many wonderful sights and learn about the places we are travelling through.
Thank you to those who take the time to hide caches

Continuing our trip from Melbourne to Darwin and back, we are now on our way back home and traveling from Alice Springs to Port Augusta for a day or two’s R&R there. We grabbed a few caches on the road as we travelled by but sadly heading to a much cooler climate with each kilometer
What an amazing location, even had a train go through today.

A 2 month/11,000km road trip up north to Darwin, where it’s a lot warmer than here after Mrs Boomajarril & I packed up the caravan, geo-dogs, and left the 9°C cold weather behind. A walk down to the lake was refreshing on the way home now.
Firstly, apologies. We have been to this location again and was surprised to see that I hadn't logged it the first time. As that is when I sent the answers, I have logged it on the date of the first visit.
I have just realised that there are a number of earthcaches that have had the answers sent but haven't been logged by myself. This is another one. Please let me know if you would like the answers re-sent. Apologies and thank you for the cache.

I visited Lake Hart when returning home from our trip up to Kununurra. I was really taken with the pink salt around the edge of the lake. I noticed the lake on the trip up but we didn't have time to stop in so I was glad we could stop on the way home. Thanks Darth Briji for placing this earthcache in such a lovely spot.

On our way home after 4 weeks exploring southern NT with friends, we originally were going to free camp in the car park but it was already filling up at 14:30 in the afternoon! This cache was on our must stop and do on the way home list ????. Wonderful contrasts of landscapes in a short walk and we also got treated to a huge freight train passing while we were out near the lake.Typical for us, ?? slow caching & logging, the EC questions were answered via msg on 20-Jul-2023 ??TFT-EC & Cheers P+F ????

What a spectacular feature! We stopped in here out of curiosity and quickly realised it was worth getting out of the car for a walk. Thanks for bringing us here and for the earthcache.
Sir_spectre and I went on a long overdue holiday to the Northern Territory. We had some great experiences and saw some amazing natural wonders. Not all went to plan - covid closures, flood effected roads, renovations, hot weather, some car troubles and not forgetting the huge jump in fuel costs
Any caches that needed repairs were fixed and numeous logs were replaced or added too.

found/solved after finding the nearby 2003 cache. Nice views and location. Mogni will/has sent the answers for us both. fav point.
Mogni and myself went to the Northern Territory for a 10 day holiday. We drove 5478 km's in those 10 days. The plan was to go up the Sturt highway and then go via Ayers Rock, King's Canyon and then through to Alice Springs stopping at the gorges/chasm/gaps along the way. As you can expect nothing goes to plan. Day 1 Adelaide to Cooper Pedy, made it just before the Roxby Downs turn off and blow the side wall on the tire of the 4x4, 193 km detour just to get a tire and even then it was the second tire place that had the tire the correct size. We had camels come in to the campsite in Erldunda Roadhouse, they even left hoof prints 1/2 a foot from the tent, at King's Canyon we had dingo's come through the camp ground both nights we where there and at Alice springs we had a mouse move in under the tent in their campground. Some of the aboriginal towns we passed where in lock down because of covid 19 so no going in to get fuel there, that changed some plans. The floods where way worse up in Northern Territory than i realized. Some creeks/rivers i could see the debris over 2 meters from the river bed and down one 4x4 track it washed the road away completely, the hole was 3/4 the length of the 4x4 and over 6 foot deep. The temp was 33 to 36 for 9 of the 10 days and finally cooled down for the drive home. We got 7 different caches types in the N.T. plus every different cache size. It was a good trip but not the one we planned. To many of the roads in the N.T. where damaged and not repaired ( still closed ) so that cancelled plan A but that's just a excuse to come back isn't it. Come back and see what you missed last time when the roads are fixed. We came with 19 regular " geocaching size " containers and a milk crate of small containers by day 7 all the regulars where used as replaced caches and by day 8 the smalls where gone. It was the UV rays a lot more than the floods that killed the caches and almost all the log books where saved, the micro containers seemed to have constantly full log sheets so they where replaced too.

Day Four: Coober Pedy to Woomera via Roxby Downs
The roads are quiet.
The weather is strange.
And Woomera is slightly creepy.
An Earthcache to be had here, and an interesting spot too. I googled some of the history to fill in the gaps. I thought it would be awesome if The Ghan came through while I was there, I guess a goods train will have to do.
Now about that honeycomb pattern in the path leading down … that looks like another Earthcache waiting in the wings.
Thanks Darth Briji.

Decided to take the walk down to the edge of the lake. That was not what I was expecting! Miss 9 believes it looked like a dried dead whale! Thank goodness it was not, imagine the smell! Answers sent in, now logging the find.
Travelling from Coober Pedy to Pimba, we decided to stop off at this salt lake. We wandered down to GZ and were amazed at what we found. This mound is made from strong stuff. We also saw a very big blue tongue lizard sunning itself near GZ. I have sent my answers and hope they are OK.
This cache was our last stop before we heard the lock down news and pulled a u turn driving straight home rotating drivers all the way back to the south of Adelaide
Great stop on the way south. Walked out onto the lake in a howling wind. Answers sent.

Out and about up north with Purrfect Di and Jack...
This was quite the spectacular place to stop for a walk.
Despite being warm, several other touristy types were wandering down to get a look at the lake.
We still may have missed its beauty if it wasn't for the caches.
All we need now is the chips to go with the salt!
Answers attempt sent to the CO.
Thank you Darth Briji for another nice salty smiley on our state geomap

Heading from Coober Pedy to Port Augusta via Woomera, we took this opportunity to stretch the legs and check out the lake, I thought the mountain of salt was a rock until I got close.
Thanks Darth Briji

Three weeks on the road for a family holiday to Alice Springs, Ayers Rock and Kings Canyon amongst other cool destinations had us traveling all over the place. We had a great time and the weather was extremely hot with bushfires that actually prevented us from going to some destinations.
We stopped here to go for a walk and stretch the legs. Amazing views across the salt lake.
Thanks for the Earthcache.

Stopped and went for a walk in this lovely area on our way to Adelaide. Talk the geopup for a walk to the bottom to have a good look. Plenty of flies around and muggles stopping to look at the view.

Found this earth Cache while in the area where it and a traditional cache reside. Found both then went on to take a closer look at the strange item this cache is about. Very interesting place. TFTC.
Today we had a long drive form Coober Pedy to Port Augusta. But we took the time to stop at the beautiful Lake Hart and make a walk down to the lake and enjoy the views. It's a great experience to walk on such a saltlike....

Last night I slept at a road side view point of a lake, just south of here. It was a calm night when I went to bed, but then half way through the night, the wind picked up and was blowing up through the valley so hard, that I honestly thought it might blow my bike over! I didn't get any sleep last night and this morning the wind was still blowing hard.
I came to the pull off for Hart lake. There were a few camper vans parked there cleaning up before heading out on the road. The lake was further away than I thought it would be, but I didn't mind the walk. The flies were terrible here. Close to a hundred swarmed around me and were unrelenting, even with the hard winds still blowing. I just kept moving and waited for the wind to blow them away for a short time.
Up ahead was a railroad line running directly across the path, but the hillside was falling further down to the lake and there was a short tunnel under the tracks. I saw graffiti painted on the back of the signs that read "No White Man". This really was out in Abbo country. Inside the concrete tunnel more graffiti read "No garbage dump, No war base, On Aboriginal Land". These were debates familiar to those of the native Americans back in New York State.
On the other side of the tracks, I could see the lake, or rather a lack there of. It was bone dry and covered as far as I could see in a layer of pure white salt. trailing off into the salt beds were remnants of unusual tracks, like a rail system had been set up through the salt flats at one time. What ever it was, it was long gone now and only faint traces of wooden pegs or something, remained.
I walked out onto the hard packed salt plain and ran my gloved hand over the salt. Crystals of salt clung to the fingers of my glove. I licked one off with my tongue. It tasted salty . You could have put this into a salt grinder at home and known no difference. It was an amazing sight, unlike anything I've ever seen before.
I answered the questions on the cache page and then walked back the way I came wondering how many people stop up above, and never make it down here to experience the salt lake up close?
Thanks for the find.

Today our tour - which began in Perth, WA , and led us thru Western, Northern and Southern Australia back to Perth, was simply driving from Coober Pedy to Kimba.
On the way we came to some interesting locations. Here we searched, found and logged this Earth-Cache.
Weather was good in the morning and it should even get better during the day.
Thanks to 'Darth Briji' for showing us this location, for the fun we had with 'Lake Hart - EarthCache' and for the smiley. The search here and today didn't take too much time, fortunately.
Greetings from Germany and we hope to see you soon in the forest, prairie, desert or outback .

Something about the cache:
**================================================================================
I have never seen such a big saltlake. Very impressive.

Something about the day:
*================================================================================
From october 16 to november 6 2019, my wife (lp.dk) and I visited Australia for the first time.
After a flight of more than 20 hours, we landed in Darwin. After 2 nights in the city we continued in a rented car first towards Kakadu National Park and later towards Alice Springs.
In Alice Springs we were picked up in an off-road bus and went on a 3-day trip into the wilderness, with overnight stays in a tent close to Uluru.
Back in Alice Springs we drove all the way to Adelaide, from where we flew to Sydney, where we visited our son who has settled there.
After 5 days in the city, we flew back to Singapore, which we visited for 2 days before the final flight back to Copenhagen.
In total, the trip lasted just over 3 weeks.
On the trip we would like to find / visit as many Earth caches, Virtual and Webcams as possible, but also the other kinds of caches when possible.
================================================================================*
No trade.

I really enjoyed doing this earth cache, simple, but required us to stop and pay more attention to the scene.

I called in here on my way to Woomera after my awesome trip up through the Kimberly’s.
The weather is definitely changing and I can see long pants being worn in the not so seeable future.
I have visited here before and it was good to walk out to the salt lake past the do not enter sign and climb the mound.
After crossing the train tracks I heard a noise coming down the rails and I could tell it was not a train.
I was soon passed by a land cruiser that was motoring along down the rails doing an inspection of some type.
The lake is so vast and changes different colours.
A fav goes out to you for this great Earth Cache.
Thanks DarthBriji TFTEC.

Hi there Darth Briji. We are on holiday and currently in South Australia on our way home to the west (Perth). While travelling we came across this Earthcache but it was quite cold and with an icy wind blowing at gale force - we didn't attempt the walk to the mound. Perhaps next time. Thanks to Darth Briji for this cache
As a geologist visiting from the US to study halokinetic deformation salt tectonics, I was absolutely thrilled to log my 699 and 700 cache in a salt flat.

We had headed off on an outback adventure but unfortunately it was cut short with Mrs Just a Trifle having to return home to attend to her elderly mother. We were quite rushed and only managed a few quick stops here and there to stretch the legs and search for a cache or two.
This was one of the caches we decided to stop at to try our luck. Answers have been forwarded to the CO.
As we were about to approach ground zero, military police arrived. Ground zero is in a prohibited zone (with a $2,200 fine) and there is another $3,500 fine for crossing the railway line (including if going through the pipe under the railway). Fortunately, we were let off with just a warning!
Thank you Darth Briji for creating the earth cache and for maintaining it for everyone to enjoy
