11/7/21 Find #4909
Road trip day three, our final day.
Today was the day to make tracks for home, of course with a number of stops along the way.
We had arrived in Yarraman with a few nearby caches on our list, this archived one being one of them. Parking the car nearby, we wandered over and made a nice quick find here, adding a little more dry logpaper to the container.
Thanks for the cache PalsLove.

Nice to find this cache still waiting to be found.

Crew 153 and I had big plans to try and get 100 caches in a day today.
However, Crew 153's Ford Falcon had other ideas and brought us to a screeching halt at cache number 50 by blowing its fuel pump.
We were both calm and collected about it. We still got 50 caches. Car got safely towed to Kilcoy. Mr Slow Puncture came and rescued us.. and there are still more than enough caches out there for us to try again. There ends my "cut and paste" part of the log
Crew 153 and I made our way to this one and I soon found the cache in the second place I looked. A nice little area to visit. I always appreciate a bit of history. TFTC PalsLove

Fangsoki and I had picked this area for a day of caching to find caches for the Hidden Creatures Souvenirs and after an early start I finally finished the day with a total of 53 finds when we struck engine trouble and had to abort the mission.
This cache was find number 5 for the day.
We were looking forward to exploring the history in this area and were surprised by the extent of the "restoration" of the area.
The cache was quickly located.

Off for a wander, cache hunt and lunch with Rani of Ranibaskale today. We decided Yarraman was a good place to choose today - not too far and not too close, plus I've purposely left the caches here for a day such as this.
We chatted our way to this location and soon found this cache. Signed the log and returned as found. Thanks for the cache, PalsLove!

Rail trip today. Ruzzelz, T-Tech. IolantheK. Brother Colin. If and I had all camped overnight at Yarraman. Today was the north end of the trail. A few were just along for the ride.
We collected another cacher/rider at the Yarraman station - half of stealth seekers.
Ruzzelz was on to this one quickly and the required names were added.

Yesterday we started riding the rail trail in Toogoolawah on a caching mission but today our backsides were raw with envy and we opted for the safe seats of the car to ride in.
We struggled to find the way into GZ because our map was showing roads that didn't exist. I would get the note to turn left onto a road but all there was were plenty of trees and a gully that would have ended our phat day. I sometimes wonder whether these fake streets are planted by locals so they can have a laugh at all the tourists getting lost. I certainly hope so.
In the end we fluked the way in and I was lucky to park right next to GZ. The first rock I flipped over led to nothing but corruption. There was an explosion of large ants with big-bulb-buttocks that were yellow and white. I had never seen anything like them before. The second rock was hiding something way more enjoyable. tftc

92Km from home.
Our first outing in our (New to us) caravan, a sudden change of plan when Mrs R-F found out her Victorian based brother was on the coast for the weekend so instead of night one at the base of the Bunya Mountains we found ourselves spending it in Mooloolaba.
We’ve now headed West to Yarraman and have unhitched “The Mystery Machine” (The Van) from ScoobyDo (Our Subaru Outback) at the Yarraman Caravan Park and are doing a bit of a run around some of the local caches.
A quick find to Mrs R-F on our alternating find roster.
The hide is excellent, the container is in good nick and the log is ready for the next finder.
We took nothing but memories, we left nothing but footprints and our tag.
Thanks for the cache Pals Love

What a great bit of hidden history [^]
Seems that it isn't advertised to the passing touristas who pass through the towne every day [:o]
But us geocachers get to visit
There's a new picinic shelter being built,
which is probably part of the rail trail development.
And lots of information about the olde railway line to be absorbed

Travelling around Australia and now super excited to be finally starting our trek to the Easter Geocaching Event at Alice Springs.
Staying longer than initially planned in Nanago as the GeoCruiser has been at the Toyota Doctors.
With the Cruiser back on the road we decided to make today about testing it out to the extremes before we tow our house further North. Pleased to report all seems good.
Had a great day touring and mostly visiting Yarraman and surrounds, using Geocaching as a guide. Only 2 DNF's and 1 was definitely muggled so is that only 1 dnf [?] [:o)] lol.

This Day in History
Sunday, July 20, 1969. : Australia's radio telescope at Parkes transmits the first pictures of the Apollo 11 moon walk.
Parkes, in central western New South Wales, was the site of the first radio telescope to be built in Australia. Its completion in 1961 was the result of ten years of of negotiation between CSIRO Radiophysics Laboratory staff, the Australian Government and significant American Scientific institutions, Carnegie Corporation and the Rockefeller Foundation. Affectionately dubbed "The Dish", the telescope comprised a disc some 210 feet (64 m) in diameter, constructed of mesh woven from high-tensile strength steel designed to withstand a range of pressures. The total cost of construction was 800,000 Australian pounds.
NASA first proposed that the Parkes radio telescope be incorporated into its worldwide tracking network in 1966, and in 1968 requested Parkes's involvement in the Apollo 11 mission. On 16 July 1969, Apollo 11 was launched from Cape Kennedy, Florida. The Parkes telescope was crucial in transmitting the first pictures of the Moon landing, although it almost didn't happen. At the time the astronauts were to leave the landing module, the moon was only in the view of the southern hemisphere. However, mission commander Neil Armstrong elected to forgo the astronauts' scheduled six-hour rest period, and make the moon walk earlier, meaning the moon would not yet have risen over Parkes to get clear enough pictures. Fortunately, the astronauts took so long to prepare for the Moon walk that the Moon was just rising over Parkes.
The controllers at Parkes then faced another crisis. One of the reasons Parkes was chosen was that it had the weather conditions most conducive to gaining the best signal: ironically, as the Moon rose over Parkes, wind gusts of 110 km per hour gusts hit the radio telescope, threatening the integrity of the telescope structure as the dish was hammered back against its zenith axis gears. Nonetheless, tracking was able to begin just as the Moon rose into the Parkes radio telescope's field of view. Being a larger telescope, it captured more signal and so produced better pictures. The command centre at Houston switched to the Parkes feed, staying with that transmission for the remainder of the 21.5-hour broadcast.
In this way, the Parkes radio telescope, which still sits in the middle of a sheep paddock, became an integral part of the history of space exploration.

Having come to Crows Nest for the Rural Challenge Event and staying overnight, we planned on caching today from Crows Nest to Yarraman and then as time allowed a few on the way home to Brisbane. Today was in the company of Nadine1989.
Didn't read this cache's description properly: Nuvi took us to ca closed-off bridge. So we made the decision to walk the trail for the three caches we had selected to do. Turned out to be a good idea: got some exercise and found the caches without any trouble.

RoddyC and me started on this morning very early to find some caches on our way. Most of them there traditional ones and not very complicated. The two special ones, one multi and one mystery were great! I enjoyed the tour, the landscape and the caches.
The navigation system was leading us to a bridge which we couldn't cross by car so we decided to walk to all of the three caches. This one was a nice one.

What a great history lesson can be learned about our old railway systems at locations like this. Loved the Station Masters house and so pleased they still have the sign up. Nice quick find and then witnessed a couple of bike riders being harassed by a magpie. This was enough to have the kids hightailing it back to the car even though we were far from the action .
Nice quick find after we left the weir after lunch and one of the geokids got up to their thighs wet after slipping into the water with shoes and all on even after geomum said "Don't get wet"
This was the next on the list and geopartner put the coordinates in the Navman and we headed off and soon were close to where we should be. I had neglected to change mine from the last cache and as we drove around the corner geopartner goes I think I have been here before and we laughed as it was the last cache we had been to. I put in the right coordinates and we were soon at GZ for another quick find.

After yet another fffreeezing night the day turned out to be fine and warm. Just the sort of day for a sight seeing tour around some of the local back roads. In our travels we found 16 caches ranging in size from micro to large.
Our GPS took some convincing that this was actually the place. It wanted to take us along a couple of non existant roads.
[/Blue]
Coordinate Accuracy: We found the cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
Cache Condition: The container and log book are in good shape.
Took: Nothing.
Left: Smiley Badge.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.[font=Verdana]

What do I do on my days off. Guess? Left home at 0730 and back home by 0900 and 5 FTF. Thanks. I knew where to go. Drove past this one on my way to the weir. I saw two cars and two people. Came back and I knew one of the two and they thought I was early for their function. Good co ordinates and a quick find. I signed log YOF as that is what I use on small log sheets to save space on the paper.
