**05/11/2023, 07:44:00****Find #5545****Traditional Find #3292**Day number two of our third trip to St. Arnaud. This morning's task was to finish the Eucy drive series but first a few other local caches. The weather was fine but the wind was perishingly cold early on.**Thank-you to strange quark1 for placing this geocache**
*Found on the 5 Nov 2023 @ 7:46am.**Cache find # 15279.* Out and about with biggles1024 for the weekend in St Arnaud. We were needing a few more finds in the LGA of Buloke, so this morning before heading back to the Eucy Drive, we headed for Mount Gowar to check out this area. The track in is a bit overgrown and a couple of sections are a bit dicey for a 2WD vehicle as mentioned in the description but it was fine for the Outback. This one was another challenge to find with so many places to hide a cache, dont what to overlook anywhere and have a good look, once we did that the cache was found.**Thanks to strange quark1 for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
Some trepidation BUT BINGO in first place! 2+ years UNLOVE 30/3/2020 Home-base is way out east at higher altitudes so its possibly the first time travelling through here but when youre on a multi mission all roads lead to caching! Taking the long road to Mildura to meet up with geobuddies chasing a few LGAs too and apart from that its been interesting too. TFTC and the FUN
Missed this one. I’d like to think it was public spiritedness that made us leave the 2 years of unlove on offer after harvesting 12 years from the others here. More likely it was just shortsightedness. Good view though
Welcome back from Covid. If there are issues with the cache after the length of time in situ please message me.
Due to a rise in Covid-19 I have made a conscious decision not to undertake cache maintenance as I feel that it doesn’t fit one of the reasons for being out during this pandemic. As I work in Melbourne in an emergency service but live regional I will not be putting myself or my community at risk.
I therefore am disabling all of my physical caches for the time being. The caches them self will be left in situ.
I won’t be deleting logs or anything like that and I intend to enable them again once I feel that my safety or that of my community won’t be put at risk.
I apologise for the inconvenience.

Here me stroll took me to the summit
Fabulous 360° views
Even better views of the whirly-gigs too from here.
I expected the Telly Tubbies to march over the hill any second
A wander around the top soon rewarded me with another cache find.
Rocks replaced the correct way up now

#4089 We were wondering what it is like on top o the world and today we experienced it! Awesome views in most directions, its flat below! The wind was blowing hard today so the nearby turbines were whirring away generating some more volts for the grid. Speccy spot, that clearly isn’t visited often! But when there isn’t a muggle for miles we will never complain! Thanks for sharing strange quark1.
Found on the trails.
Twelve months ago as we finished the Parkville Mega we were advised by someone that the next Victorian Mega event would be held in Saint Arnold. Somebody else told us that the Mega event would be held in Saint Arnood. And then another said that Saint Arned was the Mega event venue. Who should I believe? Struggling to understand the English language at the best of time. Freddo speaks two languages, Australian and Bad English.
Move forward a year. There is a cluster of events, including a MEGA event, at this town called St Arnaud burning a hole in my GPSr. The big white Pay Hero is loaded with GPSr, TOTT and camping gear and we headed east with a collaboration of like minded South Australian colleagues. DavidWazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, freddo and Gridge98 make team DEFF98.
Thursday: 5am event at a bakery in North Adelaide. The bed wetter team meets and says that this is way too early. Travel 500km east for the Thursday evening event. Freddo gets a prize. I am no mug. Camping in the bush under the stars.
Friday: Up early and headed out on the trails. And then back to our campground for a CITO! I am sure we did not make that much mess last night. More trails and 200 caches find for the day including a cluster of caches where freddo left DNA. More bush camping after a great meal in the Sporting Club.
Saturday: Up early for an event. Who puts an event on at 8am. Damn South Australians that’s who. After the event it was back on the trails and the Pay Hero is getting dustier and dustier. Found some awesome caches. Freddo the metallurgist was very impressed with the welding. Quality fabrication. And then another CITO. This time at the dump. Plenty of rubbish here. Some of it good stuff. Can I take some home? And finally a giant queue for a free meal. Nothing attracts a crowd like a free meal. The moment of the evening was receiving a Hall of Fame nomination. That prize is going straight to the pool room.
Sunday: Another night camping in the bush. Some fabulous night caches walks were undertaken. Night caching is a special form of entertainment. We spent the day cruising around picking up the left over unfound caches and meeting heaps of new friends. Boycotted the GIFF event since it did not show the freddo film “Cache Confusion” https://vimeo.com/372568752. One minute and forty four seconds of your life you won’t get back. A quick speech and it was back on the road for home. Well Horsham. More camping. This time by a river.
Monday: Caches around Horsham and following the Duke’s Highway back to Adelaide. Time for a shower for this smelly geocacher. An exhausted chocolate frog slept well.
We came, we cached, we ate, we slept; repeat for five days of fun and dust.
Easter 2020 sees South Australia hosting the next Easter big MEGA event, GeoVenture 2020 at Millicent. GC82DAN. Check it out. We would love to see you there.

Took a little bit of work to convince all present to search for this one as there was still the ever present threat of more grass seeds. Luckily, we could drive very close and the cache was much easier to locate. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.
Having a great time up here although the light is fading. The rocks are great, one of my favourite landscapes. Thanks for bringing us up here.
Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the 2019 Victorian Mega event. The weekend was spent primarily with e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98 as we geocached around the vicinity of St Arnaud. All of the events and CITOs were attended, we completed the available adventure labs and lab caches available at the showgrounds, many of the creative trails were gasped at their construction, and interesting puzzles were solved and collected during the weekend.
We all left on Thursday in two separate cars, and met up at the evening event, before finding a camp spot for the night in a very CITO location. On Friday, we targeted the StARS (St Arnaud Ramble Series) and the higher quality, well-constructed geocaches that were famous here in St Arnaud, and got lucky with the 2019 published series that we managed to snag FTFs on. Sunday had us continuing to find the other sets of high-quality caches around the neighbouring town parks, the challenge series, before spending a few hours at geocaching HQ participating in the labs that had been published. The event was also great to see some of the South Australians honoured with geocaching life awards (in amongst everyone on the list). Our final day, Sunday, had us do a big loop finishing off our geocache collection, driving all the way out to Kooreh and around via Stuart Mill, walking the conservation park at Mount Gowar, and finishing off at the GIFF event. A massive weekend that turned out to be a great mega! Thanks to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. The variety between the local high-quality caches, the new series placed by the mega team, and those who needed to be around for the labs and main centre fielding questions was appreciated immensely.
Today with our final day in St Arnaud, we went east and south focusing on some of the *Original Road* series, and the various geocaches that were placed along these routes. Once we did a loop through Stuart Mill, we did a final drive around the town vicinity finding caches. Just prior to the final GIFF event, we thought we would come here to Mount Gowar to do a hike and collect this cluster of caches. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks strange quark1 for placing and maintaining this cache. The logbook was signed as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98).

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the Mega event.
FeatherWaite, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday, taking a circuitous, but scenic route to St Arnaud to pick up a few caches in some other Victorian LGAs. We met up with Freddo and Davidwazza at the event that evening and teamed up to complete a couple more caches that night together before camping out of town.
Over the next three days we cached very solidly in and around St Arnaud, finding a diverse range of Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Virtual, Letterbox, Wherigo and Earthcaches as well as attending all the events associated with the Mega. We also managed to complete all the Lab caches over the weekend. Logbooks were signed D.E.F.F.98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo and gridge98).
On the Sunday afternoon, after the final GIFF event, FeatherWaite and I began making our way back to Adelaide, picking up a couple of caches before camping in the Little Desert NP. The following day we continued towards home with a side visit to Mount Rescue to pick up a few caches along the tracks there.
Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches. They included a huge variety of containers, hides and puzzles, many of which were very clever and/or amusing and had obviously taken considerable time and effort to construct. Thanks also to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. I’ll be looking forward to the Mega at Millicent in South Australia next Easter!

Found as part of our trip to the St Arnaud Mega event. On Day 1, e.gregory1, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday morning, straight after the Earlybirds event in North Adelaide. We travelled a long and circuitous route via Bordertown, Nhil and Warracknabeal to find caches in 5 additional Victorian LGAs that I had yet to visit (namely Buloke, Loddon, [Greater Bendigo - I’d previously visited], Mt Alexander, Hepburn and Central Goldfields). On Days 2-4 we met up with Freddo and Davidwazza. As a group we systematically completed each of the many series around St Arnaud and found all other caches along the way, signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, Featherwaite and gridge98), as well as attending the events and completing the Lab caches. After the Mega, e.gregory1 and I headed back to Adelaide camping out in Little Desert NP overnight. On Day 5 we had intended picking up caches around Mundulla and Mount Monster but a last minute change of plans saw us head into Ngarkat CP instead, for a solid drive and a few extra rewarding cache finds. Many thanks to all the cache owners for placing the huge variety of caches around St Arnaud and to all those who organised the Mega and the fantastic weekend away. Thanks for the cache strange quark1!
We thought this was going to be a walking track but with trails all around a nice drive was had collecting the caches in Mt Gowar all the caches are in good condition
What a big trip this was! I headed over to St Arnaud for the 2019 Victorian mega with e.gregory1, Davidwazza, Featherwaite and Freddo for the long weekend.
The weekend was filled with a lot of finds ranging in puzzles, a few events and some very well constructed hides around the area.
Day 1: I headed over with e.gregory1 and featherwaite, with the aim to collect some unfound LGAs for the guys, with only a 500km drive to the mega from home we added an extra 450km to the trip by going over to Bendigo and further south exploring some regional towns, overall we added an extra 6 LGAs with only 18 finds for the day. Was great to see some of the interesting little towns and what they had to offer for future visits.
Day 2: As a group we hit the trails in St Arnaud as a group signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, featherwaite and gridge98) to save a lot of room in the logbook. We started off with the geoart Stars and thought it would take most of the day, as we finished it in 2.5 hours we were a bit surprised so hit the well constructed caches in the south of the town in the bush throwing a CITO in the mix. All the caches were amazing and something you don’t see anywhere else. Adding in 15 FTFs along the way with: everlasting, crank1 and Pwola. The evening settled in and we headed into town for a buffet dinner and a catch up with some familiar faces.
Day 3:
After attending the GV2020 event for the morning we set off to hit the last of the trails left in town of the metal containers, followed by the challenges for the mega as well as quite a few trads around the back roads. We ended the day by having a go at the lab caches at the mega then off to the CITO. I don't think I have ever seen so mant people at a tip before. Topped off the day with an evening event.
Day 4: By today the town was almost cleaned out and only a few caches to find, so we did the last few caches within a rough 15km radius driving around finding the odd cache here and there. The GIFF was finished off the mega so we decided to head to Horsham for the evening.
Day 5: After leaving our camp site for the morning, we cached for the morning around Horsham collecting a few grads and a well earned swim. Then made the long drive back home to Adelaide.
Thanks to all the COs for their cache placements and the Geocaching Victoria crew for organising a fantastic weekend away.

Staying in St Arnaud for the week for the mega.
A few last-minute caches to make more smilies in the area, before heading home tomorrow.
Still battling with grass seeds, thankfully this nice sized cache was easier to spot.
Thanks for bringing us here by placing and maintaining this cache, strange quark1

Day 3 of the Mega trip with Dr Owl and there was the aim of getting my 12,000th find. Again so many options around here. A plan of sorts was hatched and we were off.
I came around the corner to a fantastic scene (see pic) and made some appreciative noises which Owl took to mean I'd found the cache. I think I'd found something better.
Thanks for the cache strange quark.

Owl is not of a reasonable fitness, so she was getting rather puffed by this point. And distracted by the views, so a job for a Fish.
**# 26175** Found on a fine Mega Spring day while at St Arnaud
with Rebel Acts and The Green Geckos.
Many cachers and muggles around today and mostly good safe hides.
Thanks for the cache strange quark1,

Found staying in St Arnaud for a week to attend the Mega Event, had a great time finding some quality caches around the area, this was one of them. I teamed up with My good Mate Rosstaman and Green Gecko from Brisbane.
Thanks strange quark1 for the cache.

Found this and a couple of others on Mt Gower after completing some challenge caches down near St Arnaud. I some how mist a couple but pick them up when I return. Nice scenic area if wasn't for the wind. Another quick find and the Cache was as expected in good order. I nearly got blown of the rocks and yet the nearby wind generators were hardly moving. TFTC.
Lunchtime!
Say and enjoyed the view after finding the cache, which is a quick and easy find.

CCOntinuing up Mt Gowar and its hard to get any higher here! Parked where the road ended and first tried the direct route but the climb involved is a bit high for my liking so headed around to the other side which was MUCH easier, just some rock hopping to get to the highest point Enjoyed the view for a while then started hunting. The cache was in hand after a short search, thanks to strange quark1 for this one, great spot
After parking we walked to the cache only to find that if we had chosen to we could have parked much closer. The walk was much nicer. SL TFTC
This afternoon my daughter and I went touring Mt. Gowar, checking caches as we went. This was there in good nick, ready to find.
This one certainly took some time. With so many clever little places to hide it was eventually persistence that paid of. That and xsurfergirlx who looked where i looked but found it This is an amazing location that is worthy of a lot more visitors.
We found this cache on our way home from a great weekend of caching in Little Desert. The truckasaurus made light work of this area, and we were able to park quite close to all the caches. Phew. Otherwise it would have taken considerably longer to walk to them all We spent quite a bit of time looking for this elusive cache, and I was definitely feeling 'on top o' the world' when I finally spied it in its little hidey hole The views up here are fantastic, more people should come and visit this place! I am quite glad we visited in winter as, I agree, it would be snake heaven in the summer months. Thanks for the cache
After brekky and the infamous green string to finish off a Wonderful Wedderburn Weekend, we teamed up with Wazza (minus his Wenches today) to find some caches around Mount GoWar before heading home.
Awesome views from the top of the world here. TFTC and for bringing us right up here Strange Quark 1.

The annual Wedderburn weekend and it's always a highlight of the calendar...
We're still working our way toward the top of the hill, stopping at a few caches along the way. This one was just a short walk around the end of the outcrop then a few minutes of searching.
Thank you, strange quark1, for this cache.

After enjoying the lunch time BBQ Event it was now time to venture out of town in a 4WD convoy to tackle the Mount Gower series plus any others in that area. What magnificent views to be admired up here , blue skies, green paddocks , fantastic rock formations and not to mention the grand turbines towering over the landscape , what more could you ask for ? Thats right , great company as well, with 7 other caching teams we had a ball driving over the mountain collecting each cache and adding our names to the logs.
**Thanks strange quark1 for placing this series in a great location.**

Found in the afternoons convoy consisting of The Tritonz, The Empire, mischief18, Phetlern, au.fait, highrod, TR! and yours truly. A fantastic drive up round the area and beyond chasing smilies with the 4WD's. Got some great views today from up here, we were blessed with a clear day, and the views went for miles. Thanks for the hide.
Found with seven other caching teams after the lunchtime event in Wedderburn. Yes, it felt like I was on top of the world! Superb views of the surrounding countryside. TFTC
Found as part of the annual trek to Wedderburn for an awesome weekend, of caching, friends and laughter.
Travelling with TheTritonz, The Empire, Sully1, HighRod, Misscheif18 and Phetlern at this stage, although this changed numerous times over the weekend.
WOW what a view, you certainly do feel like you are on top of the world here. Had to drag ourselves away from the view to find the cache.
Found, signed and replaced.

Ccccccaching Capers…….
Certain city & country characters combined to conquer caches in convoy. Commencing at Charlton Views, to the top of the world;
Curious cachers, climbing, calculating, clambering, concentrating on cunningly concealed containers.
Continual chattering, consultation, camaraderie & confusion, carefully completing calling credentials then……..
Continuing on - Crop a view of this, Coonooer Bridge Community Centre,
Culminating in Choose the Right One… or else Yawong. Images added.
Our thanks to strange quark1 for placing this cache.

Once again continuing my quest to visit as many 2015 Victorian Geocache of the Year Award nominees as possible before the event on 27 February, find out more at the [event page](http://coord.info/GC679HV). Also gathered a few bonus caches along the way.
Couldn't find the access route but approached from the east through several gates, we finally got to a location where we parked and walked up from but as we left to the west we drove past what we believe was probably the access track just 200 meters from where we parked. It might be a good idea for the CO to publish a trail head waypoint as we could not find a logical start point using our friend, Mr G. Still it was a comfortable short walk with some magnificent views.
**Thanks for placing this cache strange quark1**
Congratulations on another worthy nomination.

Congratulations on another worthy nomination.
I was in St Arnaud for the weekend visiting friends. I found this cache while out and about with FUF009 and Tyred n Cranky. An interesting area. You could hide heaps more up here. Tftc
Had a bit of trouble finding this one GPS was all over the place. Good hide TFTC
Congratulations!

Find No. 1139. Found at 7.31pm
A late afternoons drive in the geo ute with geodog Penny on board. Had decided to go and have a look at the wind turbines area to see what was happening out that way and then on the way home to visit Mount Gowar to grab a cache or two.
What a great area with fantastic views. Penny however was one unhappy geodog as she was not allowed off her lead to run around due to wriggly things that are around this time of the year. We will have to bring her back when its cooler so she can run around.
Being very careful of where we go poking around. Just hate those wriggly things. Another one down and off we go again.
Took red car - Left yellow duck eraser.

Catching up on some late, very late and extremely late logs (400 in all)
I would like to thank strange quark1 for placing this cache. I always enjoy getting out and about to view this great country of ours and caching allows me to do that. Once at GZ, I sometimes find the cache quickly but sometimes it takes awhile to sus out the well camouflaged hide. Once found, log is signed and the cache is rehidden as found.
Once again thanks strange quark1.

Had a wonderful weekend away with The McLookers, Tomstache, Motndarg, Glanville Girls finding lots of caches and having lots of fun! Was lovely to visit and explore the area…TFTC
Certainly did feel as if we were on top of the world, great views all round. Added bonus was finding the cache, thanks.
This one took a little while to locate as there was so many places for it to be. Finally we spotted the hide. Thanks for placing strangquark1.
Yes! this feels like the top of the world!
We managed most of the caches in this area on this lovely spring afternoon in a high clearance 2wd. The views were amazing and the geology very interesting. Thanks for bringing us here strange quark1. Caching this afternoon with The Lookabouts, Motndarg and Glanville Girls.

Find # 2394
I decided to head up (on my motorbike) to have a look off the top of this mountain. I was only looking at grabbing one cache today as it is International Geocaching Day, and also just to leave the others so I can fill my calendar up.
Getting up the mountain I came across a couple of familiar cars. it was only when I spied Rustymac and wildnic that they told me that there was a couple of new caches that were just published. That one disadvantage when out enjoying a blast up the road on a motorbike, you don't always hear your phone go off.
Well as they were already up here I and the FTFs were gone, I decided to stay to my plans of only getting one cache at the top and leaving the rest.
This cache took me some time to find, I looked in the obvious locations but came up empty. It was only when I stood back to look for a cunning hide location that I found the little blighter.
TFTC strange quark 1 and thanks for one hell of a view. (I am going to enjoy my revisits to this area)

More hopping on rocks. SWM was closer to the mark, although the camo was atypical of SQ1. Compromised by ptevious cacher, hard call to make. Thanks for the cache.
Found by Roma and Max.
We made another driveby here and once again we found your little container right where our receiver was indicating.
Although we didn't scramble to the top most observation point we did get an excellent view out to the south and west from GZ.
Thank you again strange quark1 for bringing us to this lovely scenic spot.
