**05/11/2023, 07:28:00****Find #5543****Traditional Find #3290**Day number two of our third trip to St. Arnaud. This morning's task was to finish the Eucy drive series but first a few other local caches. The weather was fine but the wind was perishingly cold early on. No problems finding this one and then onto the next.**Thank-you to strange quark1 for placing this geocache**
*Found on the 5 Nov 2023 @ 7:27am.**Cache find # 15277.*Out and about with biggles1024 for the weekend in St Arnaud. We were needing a few more finds in the LGA of Buloke, so this morning before heading back to the Eucy Drive, we headed for Mount Gowar to check out this area. The track in is a bit overgrown and a couple of sections are a bit dicey for a 2WD vehicle as mentioned in the description but it was fine for the Outback.Well this was certainly a task on hand, a bison hidden in amongst all of this is certainly a challenge not to take lightly, after a bit of a look here and there, the cache was eventually found once Mark found the right location.**Thanks to strange quark1 for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
Not sure how this missed being logged...but definitely a memorable trip. What a fab surprise and I got to use 4WD! Totally love the rocky landscape and amazing weathered shapes carved into the rocks. Enroute to meet geo-buddies in Mildura so just a wee detour from homebase far out east as I'd targeted Mt. Gowar and its clutch of caches as amongst others I'm on an LGA mission. A good variety of caches found in good nic. TFTC and the fun.
I live nearby & decided I'd have a look from the Mount. This one was almost next to the track so I decided to grab it. It was sitting on rock in plain site. I have put it in the same spot but out of site.
Thanks for the cache
Thanks for the cache
It’s Good Friday, and a good Friday to wander up Mt Gowar. This one was about where I was insisting we could have driven the Odyssey up, ignoring the tricky stuff before the Eagle’s beak, my lack of 4WD driving skills and 4WD. Thanks strange quark
Welcome back from Covid. If there are issues with the cache after the length of time in situ please message me.
Due to a rise in Covid-19 I have made a conscious decision not to undertake cache maintenance as I feel that it doesn’t fit one of the reasons for being out during this pandemic. As I work in Melbourne in an emergency service but live regional I will not be putting myself or my community at risk.
I therefore am disabling all of my physical caches for the time being. The caches them self will be left in situ.
I won’t be deleting logs or anything like that and I intend to enable them again once I feel that my safety or that of my community won’t be put at risk.
I apologise for the inconvenience.

Continuing me stroll with the flies up the hill,
I stopped here to find the next cache in me sights
Ooh !!
Where is it ?? [:o]
After 10 minutes I read the cache notes
I find that sometimes helps
This time it didn't help !! [:o]
All me brain saw was the words "micro cache" !!
Well that revelation had me giving up already
So many hiding places !! [:o]
OH wait a second ... what's that obvious clue I didn't notice ??
Once the grey cells had digested that bit of info on the cache page,
finding the cache was simples as
And fun too [^]

#4087 Continuing our journey up the slope, we parked and engaged hand brake, next to gz . We wandered around some more interesting formations and if it wasn’t for the more nimble Mrs BGF we may have walked away empty handed. Who knew you could get in there!?! Absolutely loved this one, amazing find here strange quark1, another fave location for us. TFTC.
Found on my second trip to the Mountain. to pick up the few caches I missed on the first trip. TFTC.
We thought we would venture up here and see if we could find some of the caches. There are some amazing rock formation. Not sure that that was a good idea. This one had us looking and looking and looking some more. Even with a PAF we did not good. Just one last look is like just one last cache and has to happen which is just as well as we managed to leave here with our names in the log book and a smiley to record our visit. Thanks for placing this cache here for us to find.
Very pleased that we came up here as the rocks are stunning. They are so huge and are in some awesome shapes. Thanks for placing the caches up here so we could share the area and the views.
Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the 2019 Victorian Mega event. The weekend was spent primarily with e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98 as we geocached around the vicinity of St Arnaud. All of the events and CITOs were attended, we completed the available adventure labs and lab caches available at the showgrounds, many of the creative trails were gasped at their construction, and interesting puzzles were solved and collected during the weekend.
We all left on Thursday in two separate cars, and met up at the evening event, before finding a camp spot for the night in a very CITO location. On Friday, we targeted the StARS (St Arnaud Ramble Series) and the higher quality, well-constructed geocaches that were famous here in St Arnaud, and got lucky with the 2019 published series that we managed to snag FTFs on. Sunday had us continuing to find the other sets of high-quality caches around the neighbouring town parks, the challenge series, before spending a few hours at geocaching HQ participating in the labs that had been published. The event was also great to see some of the South Australians honoured with geocaching life awards (in amongst everyone on the list). Our final day, Sunday, had us do a big loop finishing off our geocache collection, driving all the way out to Kooreh and around via Stuart Mill, walking the conservation park at Mount Gowar, and finishing off at the GIFF event. A massive weekend that turned out to be a great mega! Thanks to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. The variety between the local high-quality caches, the new series placed by the mega team, and those who needed to be around for the labs and main centre fielding questions was appreciated immensely.
Today with our final day in St Arnaud, we went east and south focusing on some of the *Original Road* series, and the various geocaches that were placed along these routes. Once we did a loop through Stuart Mill, we did a final drive around the town vicinity finding caches. Just prior to the final GIFF event, we thought we would come here to Mount Gowar to do a hike and collect this cluster of caches. Some cool rock formations around here, and after 5-10 min of searching, I found it in a hidden location. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks strange quark1 for placing and maintaining this cache. The logbook was signed as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98).

Found on the trails.
Twelve months ago as we finished the Parkville Mega we were advised by someone that the next Victorian Mega event would be held in Saint Arnold. Somebody else told us that the Mega event would be held in Saint Arnood. And then another said that Saint Arned was the Mega event venue. Who should I believe? Struggling to understand the English language at the best of time. Freddo speaks two languages, Australian and Bad English.
Move forward a year. There is a cluster of events, including a MEGA event, at this town called St Arnaud burning a hole in my GPSr. The big white Pay Hero is loaded with GPSr, TOTT and camping gear and we headed east with a collaboration of like minded South Australian colleagues. DavidWazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, freddo and Gridge98 make team DEFF98.
Thursday: 5am event at a bakery in North Adelaide. The bed wetter team meets and says that this is way too early. Travel 500km east for the Thursday evening event. Freddo gets a prize. I am no mug. Camping in the bush under the stars.
Friday: Up early and headed out on the trails. And then back to our campground for a CITO! I am sure we did not make that much mess last night. More trails and 200 caches find for the day including a cluster of caches where freddo left DNA. More bush camping after a great meal in the Sporting Club.
Saturday: Up early for an event. Who puts an event on at 8am. Damn South Australians that’s who. After the event it was back on the trails and the Pay Hero is getting dustier and dustier. Found some awesome caches. Freddo the metallurgist was very impressed with the welding. Quality fabrication. And then another CITO. This time at the dump. Plenty of rubbish here. Some of it good stuff. Can I take some home? And finally a giant queue for a free meal. Nothing attracts a crowd like a free meal. The moment of the evening was receiving a Hall of Fame nomination. That prize is going straight to the pool room.
Sunday: Another night camping in the bush. Some fabulous night caches walks were undertaken. Night caching is a special form of entertainment. We spent the day cruising around picking up the left over unfound caches and meeting heaps of new friends. Boycotted the GIFF event since it did not show the freddo film “Cache Confusion” https://vimeo.com/372568752. One minute and forty four seconds of your life you won’t get back. A quick speech and it was back on the road for home. Well Horsham. More camping. This time by a river.
Monday: Caches around Horsham and following the Duke’s Highway back to Adelaide. Time for a shower for this smelly geocacher. An exhausted chocolate frog slept well.
We came, we cached, we ate, we slept; repeat for five days of fun and dust.
Easter 2020 sees South Australia hosting the next Easter big MEGA event, GeoVenture 2020 at Millicent. GC82DAN. Check it out. We would love to see you there.

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the Mega event.
FeatherWaite, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday, taking a circuitous, but scenic route to St Arnaud to pick up a few caches in some other Victorian LGAs. We met up with Freddo and Davidwazza at the event that evening and teamed up to complete a couple more caches that night together before camping out of town.
Over the next three days we cached very solidly in and around St Arnaud, finding a diverse range of Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Virtual, Letterbox, Wherigo and Earthcaches as well as attending all the events associated with the Mega. We also managed to complete all the Lab caches over the weekend. Logbooks were signed D.E.F.F.98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo and gridge98).
On the Sunday afternoon, after the final GIFF event, FeatherWaite and I began making our way back to Adelaide, picking up a couple of caches before camping in the Little Desert NP. The following day we continued towards home with a side visit to Mount Rescue to pick up a few caches along the tracks there.
Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches. They included a huge variety of containers, hides and puzzles, many of which were very clever and/or amusing and had obviously taken considerable time and effort to construct. Thanks also to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. I’ll be looking forward to the Mega at Millicent in South Australia next Easter!

Found as part of our trip to the St Arnaud Mega event. On Day 1, e.gregory1, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday morning, straight after the Earlybirds event in North Adelaide. We travelled a long and circuitous route via Bordertown, Nhil and Warracknabeal to find caches in 5 additional Victorian LGAs that I had yet to visit (namely Buloke, Loddon, [Greater Bendigo - I’d previously visited], Mt Alexander, Hepburn and Central Goldfields). On Days 2-4 we met up with Freddo and Davidwazza. As a group we systematically completed each of the many series around St Arnaud and found all other caches along the way, signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, Featherwaite and gridge98), as well as attending the events and completing the Lab caches. After the Mega, e.gregory1 and I headed back to Adelaide camping out in Little Desert NP overnight. On Day 5 we had intended picking up caches around Mundulla and Mount Monster but a last minute change of plans saw us head into Ngarkat CP instead, for a solid drive and a few extra rewarding cache finds. Many thanks to all the cache owners for placing the huge variety of caches around St Arnaud and to all those who organised the Mega and the fantastic weekend away. Thanks for the cache strange quark1!
We thought this was going to be a walking track but with trails all around a nice drive was had collecting the caches in Mt Gowar all the caches are in good condition
What a big trip this was! I headed over to St Arnaud for the 2019 Victorian mega with e.gregory1, Davidwazza, Featherwaite and Freddo for the long weekend.
The weekend was filled with a lot of finds ranging in puzzles, a few events and some very well constructed hides around the area.
Day 1: I headed over with e.gregory1 and featherwaite, with the aim to collect some unfound LGAs for the guys, with only a 500km drive to the mega from home we added an extra 450km to the trip by going over to Bendigo and further south exploring some regional towns, overall we added an extra 6 LGAs with only 18 finds for the day. Was great to see some of the interesting little towns and what they had to offer for future visits.
Day 2: As a group we hit the trails in St Arnaud as a group signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, featherwaite and gridge98) to save a lot of room in the logbook. We started off with the geoart Stars and thought it would take most of the day, as we finished it in 2.5 hours we were a bit surprised so hit the well constructed caches in the south of the town in the bush throwing a CITO in the mix. All the caches were amazing and something you don’t see anywhere else. Adding in 15 FTFs along the way with: everlasting, crank1 and Pwola. The evening settled in and we headed into town for a buffet dinner and a catch up with some familiar faces.
Day 3:
After attending the GV2020 event for the morning we set off to hit the last of the trails left in town of the metal containers, followed by the challenges for the mega as well as quite a few trads around the back roads. We ended the day by having a go at the lab caches at the mega then off to the CITO. I don't think I have ever seen so mant people at a tip before. Topped off the day with an evening event.
Day 4: By today the town was almost cleaned out and only a few caches to find, so we did the last few caches within a rough 15km radius driving around finding the odd cache here and there. The GIFF was finished off the mega so we decided to head to Horsham for the evening.
Day 5: After leaving our camp site for the morning, we cached for the morning around Horsham collecting a few grads and a well earned swim. Then made the long drive back home to Adelaide.
Thanks to all the COs for their cache placements and the Geocaching Victoria crew for organising a fantastic weekend away.

Staying in St Arnaud for the week for the mega.
A few last-minute caches to make more smilies in the area, before heading home tomorrow.
Our first find on Mount Gowar, and the hardest. Even after a PAF, we had no luck. After about 25 mins, and about to give up, when Geoturtle37 managed to finally spot the well-hidden micro.
Thanks for bringing us here by placing and maintaining this cache, strange quark1

Day 3 of the Mega trip with Dr Owl and there was the aim of getting my 12,000th find. Again so many options around here. A plan of sorts was hatched and we were off.
What an amazing place! Thanks for bringing us here strange quark.

Another tricky find, especially as it is a micro, but the Fish eventually came up trumps again.
**# 26173** Found on a fine Mega Spring day while at St Arnaud
with Rebel Acts and The Green Geckos.
Many cachers and muggles around today and mostly good safe hides.
It was very well hidden but when you see it you see it.
Thanks for the cache strange quark1,

Found staying in St Arnaud for a week to attend the Mega Event, had a great time finding some quality caches around the area, this was one of them. I teamed up with My good Mate Rosstaman and Green Gecko from Brisbane.
Thanks strange quark1 for the cache.

A quick and easy find... the GPRS was pointing to the next rock formation.
May need to widen the search, but it is a really easy hide/find.
Don’t over think it! Look at the name!

Out hunting caches on Mt Gowar and this one was next. Parked nearby and headed into the rocks where the cache was found after a short search. Thanks to strange quark1 for this one
Today we returned to Mt Gowar to conquer the caches here. We had been here in 2017 but were short on time so that trip was more of an exploratory to check out the terrain. The cache was found snug and secure today. Replaced as found waiting for the next finder. SL TFTC
Today we, my daughter and I, went to Mt. Gowar checking caches as we went. This one was a bit difficult to find, let's be honest it appears to have gone. We searched around to no avail so we set a new one in place.
All ready to go. All the best.
All ready to go. All the best.
Nope. We couldn't find this cache anywhere. Previous logs would also suggest this cache is missing. Discovered how cool these rocks really are though. Wow, carved from the inside and seemingly precariously balanced, looking like a gentle nudge may send them rolling down the hill at any time [:0]
For our last cache of the day we had no luck. We located a likely hidey spot but after an extensive search we could not find anything. We were in convoy with a previous finder and they could not find it either.
Will have another go after St. Arnaud if we get the time.

After brekky and the infamous green string to finish off a Wonderful Wedderburn Weekend, we teamed up with Wazza (minus his Wenches today) to find some caches around Mount GoWar before heading home.
Up up up we go, WoW Why haven't we been here before? Awesome park. At least we are discovering it now. TFTC Strange Quark 1

Thank you, strange quark1, for this cache.

After enjoying the lunch time BBQ Event it was now time to venture out of town in a 4WD convoy to tackle the Mount Gower series plus any others in that area. What magnificent views to be admired up here , blue skies, green paddocks , fantastic rock formations and not to mention the grand turbines towering over the landscape , what more could you ask for ? Thats right , great company as well, with 7 other caching teams we had a ball driving over the mountain collecting each cache and adding our names to the logs.

Found in the afternoons convoy consisting of The Tritonz, The Empire, mischief18, Phetlern, au.fait, highrod, TR! and yours truly. A fantastic drive up round the area and beyond chasing smilies with the 4WD's. Got some great views today from up here, we were blessed with a clear day, and the views went for miles. Thanks for the hide.
Found with seven other caching teams after the lunchtime event in Wedderburn. It was a quick find, so we enjoyed looking at all other possible hiding spots amongst the rocks. TFTC
Found as part of the annual trek to Wedderburn for an awesome weekend, of caching, friends and laughter.
Travelling with TheTritonz, The Empire, Sully1, HighRod, Misscheif18 and Phetlern at this stage, although this changed numerous times over the weekend.
The track was starting to get bumpy, but still very easy track (but we were 4WDing).

Travelling with TheTritonz, The Empire, Sully1, HighRod, Misscheif18 and Phetlern at this stage, although this changed numerous times over the weekend.
The track was starting to get bumpy, but still very easy track (but we were 4WDing).
Came to this one, found the cache as a group, signed as a group and replaced as a group.

Ccccccaching Capers…….
Certain city & country characters combined to conquer caches in convoy. Commencing at Charlton Views, into the rocks;
Curious cachers, climbing, calculating, clambering, concentrating on cunningly concealed containers.
Continual chattering, consultation, camaraderie & confusion, carefully completing calling credentials then……..
Continuing on - Crop a view of this, Coonooer Bridge Community Centre,
Culminating in Choose the Right One… or else Yawong. Image added.
Our thanks to strange quark1 for placing this cache.

Find No. 1298. Found with FUF009 at 6.15pm
After work we decided to go for a bicycle ride and grab a cache so off we headed out Charlton Road to Wescotts Road where FUF009 and geodog Penny had driven out to in the geoute to pick us up.
Bikes in the back and up the dirt road we went to Mount Gowar Scenic Reserve.
Well what should have taken us only five minutes took us well over an hour as we sat on the rocks and watched the crane go up and down and back up again. Next we seen a person walking around way up on top - you wouldn't want to be afraid of heights.
Finally we thought we had better go do what we came out here for so off we walked down the hill some 400 meters to grab a cache.
Lucky for us this time it was in its hidey hole and what a good hidey hole it was. (last time we had to do a DNF). Signed the log, walked back up the hill, checked out the workers and homeward found we went.
Bike ride, geocaching and sightseeing - what more could you ask for all in one evening.
Geodog Penny loved the walk down to the cache and back but couldn't work out why she had to sit so long at the rocks staring into space.
TFTC strange quark1. What a great area this had turned out to be. Not only for caching but for sightseeing as well.

Find # 2835 @ 1815 H
Found with Tyred n Cranky and Geo Penny.
Tyred n Cranky wanted to go for a ride after work and I wanted/needed a cache grab for today. So a plan was hatched that they would ride out Charlton road and I would catch up to them in their Geo ute with Geo Penny on board and then go for a drive up to Mount Gowar.
Well what can I say about the view up here, form one side it is all paddocks but the other side has now "come up"
With the installation of the wind turbines, this area is well worth a visit. Mr Tyred n Cranky took the ute to the top and we sat and watched a massive crane slew around. also there was a smaller crane working away and a JCB going flat out along the road.
Well after quite some time of watching the working we remembered what we were out here for. As Tyred n Cranky had put a DNF on this one, and seeing that it was all good to go, we decided that this would be the one for today.
Wow this is an interesting rock formation. After a bit of a hunt we managed to locate the little blighter.

A late afternoons drive in the geo ute with geodog Penny on board. Had decided to go and have a look at the wind turbines area to see what was happening out that way and then on the way home to visit Mount Gowar to grab a cache or two.
Well we thought we would grab a cache or two but not so with this one. We looked and looked but just could not find it.

I detest having to log a DNF, but I must for this one.. I searched and searched and still didn't find a thing, though I may have upturned most of the rocks here! I'll be back!
Glorious spot for a cache though!! Thanks for bringing me out here.

Catching up on some late, very late and extremely late logs (400 in all)
I would like to thank strange quark1 for placing this cache. I always enjoy getting out and about to view this great country of ours and caching allows me to do that. Once at GZ, I sometimes find the cache quickly but sometimes it takes awhile to sus out the well camouflaged hide. Once found, log is signed and the cache is rehidden as found.
Once again thanks strange quark1.

Once again our junior Lookabouts member had his eyes focused for caches today. A quick find. TFTH
Out and about in the area today with McLookers, Motndarg and the Lookabouts. The youngest Lookabout made the find on this one. Thanks for placing.
The Lookabouts Geokid made the find in this spot.
We managed most of the caches in this area on this lovely spring afternoon in a high clearance 2wd. The views were amazing and the geology very interesting. Thanks for bringing us here strange quark1. Caching this afternoon with The Lookabouts, Motndarg and Glanville Girls.

Well this is a really well placed cache. I absolutely loved the cave like rocks around here. I could nearly camp the night in them! Once again we were having trouble with devices jumping around and had to search a bit. Wasn't long until we had it. Thanks Strange Quark 1
More rocks, yeo more bloody rocks. I was impressed by these rocks. Next time iIm on the run, from the coppers im heading up here to bunker down for a few nights. Creative use of the unique environmet. Fave point.

Found by Roma and Max.
With 4 new hides and the promise of a reasonably fine day, which did improve as we made our approach up the Mt, we set off this morning prepared to meet the challenges you had set for us on what proved to be the perfect geo venue, as you had described in your preamble.
We were fortunate here to find our receiver really liked your numbers and the fact we have experienced this type of cunning hide before enabled us to make our find in the first place we looked.
However our good fortune does not detract from what we consider to be a quality hide.
Thank you strange quark1.
Cheers,
from Romax.
