Sadly this one has met it's demise and I am no longer in a position to maintain it so it's time for it to go truly silent. The Cookoo has flown the coop. Thanks for the fun and the favoutites!

The locational device at the posted coords is not operating and has therefore been taken away to see whether it can be revived. It's very hard to find the cache itself without the help of the locational device (though not impossible so I'm disabling the cache until we can get the locational device back in place. Sorry folks!

Having a caching day on the Central Coast from Sydney. What a cool little cache this one is! Unfortunately for us silence reigned at GZ. Fortunately we were able to find the final prize when we spotted an unnatural natural object. The container was not connected as it ought to have been and was a bit worse for wear but still very clever. TN L the wolf 2nd honeymoon TB SL TFTC Cheers... Gaztek

PS Note to future finders: the first box you find is not the geocache!

23-Apr-17
Locational device is not working - a battery issue? Container has become disconnected. We did some temporary onsite repairs but they won't last long. Cheers... Gaztek

This was an easy find, but I believe missed the bird due to malfunction and ants?? It will be soon corrected. TFTC

Find #1138
We spent the day caching around the Central Coast today, instead of work/vacation care. With much nicer weather than the preceeding couple of days, we had a great day filling in some D:T grid holes and doing some less-park-and-grab caches than we did last weekend.
Wow - a big surprise. To be honest, I hadn't read the description before putting this on our list, it was just at the parking for the EarthCache! When we found the first part, I knew what to do, but couldn't work out for a minute if the sounds we could hear were natural or not. The cool hide and log was found quickly, and we made a little video to show the family.... TFTC Mumma-Kel, FP added.

12-Jan-17
Today we had a GREAT day caching around Gosford and Tumbi Umbi, we found 19 caches and only 2 DNFs. Lots of big walks and aching legs!

It can't be this simple, and why is there no log? My brain soon clicked into gear and I realised where I needed to go after that. Cache #300 TFTC

09-Jan-17
Seeing this one was confirmed active we headed over to see what the D and T were about. We soon found the first part and realised what it was all about. There was a lot of background noise from the bush but with careful cacher skills we made the find. We completed the signing duties and re hid. A favourite point from us. TFTC.

Was going for a walk in and around Adcock Park today and walked right past where this previously found cache was. Co-incidentally I had read though Wikipedia's "Silence" article* yesterday so I knew I just had to find this very cool cache again. And I can confirm all is well. Left a little something in the cache.

This is the sort of cache that you could introduce a muggle to and they would be "Wow, geocaching is so cool!" although maybe you would spoil them? Smile

* I had watched a short doco on Minimalism (on Netflix). Found it interesting and that left me to look up Minimalism on the 'net > Minimalist art and Klein (the 'blue' guy) > Klein created a musical piece featuring a sustained 20 minute chord followed by 20 minutes of silence (never knew this before) > Silence article. I can add this to similar songs featuring silence by Sonic Youth, Meat Beat Manifesto, and of course John Cage.

Best wishes for 2017 all!

I am on my way to an event Smile and I have plenty of time to find a few caches on the way. Big Grin
Having done a few of these type caches before I knew what was happening ... or supposed to happen as there was SILENCE. Twisted After some searching I found the cache close by. Flat batteries I assume is the problem.
Thanks for the cache.

If we had not read the logs we would have been content with finding the first item & signing the log within and not found the real deal. Pretty cool cache. TFTC

Quickest find ever. Cool hide. No sound for me and no log to write name.

Found this one super easy. Unfortunately did not make any noise for me. TFTC Smile

Well here we are at number 1500. It's taken me just over 3 years and have loved every moment. Picked this one as we were up this way and I'd previously heard it was a good one, so I must admit I was disappointed when I found the container, and scared when I saw the big spider right where the container was! Expressed my distaste to Mrs Canary (of Team Canary, who was with me), wondering about the favourites then opened it up and went ohhhhhh! Unfortunately I couldn't hear the cuckoo but I did see something nearby that I thought might be calling me and sure enough that was the cache - and now I understand the favourites (I've added one of my own)! When I was putting it all back together I heard the soft cuckoo. Thanks for contributing to my caching journey Mumma-Kel! Hope to see you at another event soon.

24-Jul-16
Found by Mrs Canary with Skyebowmonkeytown.

She braved spiders and a bush bash??!

The batteries may need replacing as it was very quiet.

TFTC.

The GPS coordinates were very accurate for this cache. Retrieving the cache container was easy enough but opening it proved more of a challenge and required an extraction tool. The cache was well-guarded by an arachnid which wasn't too interested in geocaching, it seemed. TFTC, Mumma-Kel.

29-May-16
After having spent close to an hour a couple of months ago attempting this (there were two lawn mowers mowing), we found it this time in less than 5min! The noise wasn't what I was expecting the first time, it was quite clearly different to the real bird noises! Tftc Smile

28-May-16
Found it pretty cool hide!!

26-May-16
On finding the container, I pushed the button, and nothing happened!
A few more pushes...............still nothing. After checking the battery, and re-seating it, another push elicited a VERY faint response. I don't know if the response is minimal, or my reduced hearing levels make it so!
Anyway, a few more pushes, and I was lead on the way to the cute container, whence the cache was soon in hand. TNLNSL TFTC

Great idea. Never found one like this before. We'll give a FP as soon as we get another. Well done on an awesome cache.

11-May-16
YGAT and I had stopped to do the nearby earthcache but discovered that this one was on the way to the boardwalk so we attempted it first. I have encountered a few of these over the years and they have often been plagued by technical issues, though I admit my hearing is not the best - a legacy of loud rock concerts in my youth. However, this one worked perfectly. YGAT’s younger ears immediately picked up the very realistic call over the din of the peak hour traffic and I heard it soon after.

A great implementation, thanks Mumma-Kel.

11-May-16
Wow, I’m so impressed. This is the first time I have come across a cache set up like this. Thanks, I loved it, a favourite from me.

02-May-16
Tried again when the traffic had died down. I'm convinced either the battery is dead or I'm deaf as a post. Will try again another time

It was easy to find the special tool, then we stared at each other in confusion for a moment. And then we got it, listened quietly for a moment and there it was! Brilliant idea, tftc!

We visited the nice reptile Park in Somersby which was great. A lot of informative and illustrative keeper talks.
After the visit there we stopped at some nice caches in the region.
We looked and listened for about half and hour. We did the Earthcache meanwhile.
we listened carefull and then got to spot the nice one.

Thank you for this nice Cache

Grabbed this then figured id walk along silently and listen while doing the nearby earth cache. After completing the earth and cussing the battery's which I was so sure were empty, I made my way back to GZ. Just as there was no cars passing, with ears attuned to the bush I was able to zero in on cache immediately. Amazing hides nearby Mumma-kel, have much enjoyed them on my morning ride to do the tascott cache Smile tftc

Excellent cache!
Just finished the nearby Earth Cache when geokid Sushi and I noticed this cache with lots of FPs. Approaching the GZ I began wondering about the number of FPs - it did not make sense... Only when we found the "cache" and I saw who the CO is did the penny drop. We wandered around listening for the auspicious noise without success. I even checked the battery... All was good. Only after having to dash home for an urgent "call of nature" and having a moment to read some of the previous logs and ponder the location of this other "call of nature" did I tush back and found the cache within minute!
A definite FP from me!

We had a great walk around looking for this one, I think I will take this idea back home.. Thanks for the cache, added favourite point.. We walked the wrong way to start with, then headed in the right direction and could just hear it from the edge of the lawn.. maybe it'd be easier to hear at a quieter time with less road noise.. Loved it, thanks..

08-Dec-15
Bugger!!!! WP1 easily found but with my 15% hearing loss and geowife's (no doubt) partial hearing loss, there was no way we could pick up another sound over the cicadas and traffic. This might have to wait for another visit to Gosford from wester Sydney.

30-Nov-15
man this is a clever cache and I will say coming into summer with the cicadas is not a great time to do this one haha. So much fun though.
I think I walked around for half an hour covering everywhere but after a while I heard an unsusal sound. Went to investigate and bingo. quickly signed and put everything back. TFTC!!

Find #: 1,208
Companions: None
Muggles: None
Weather: Warm spring day
Cache Condition: Good

I had reached my caching limit for the day, but when I saw this on a quick check after a find across the road decided I couldn't miss the opportunity. I headed in to the park and made a quick find of WP1. I had once attempted a similar cache, but it hadn't worked satisfactorily, so I was hoping this would be a better experience. There was lots of noise with crickets, birds and traffic, plus I started off in the wrong direction, so got to explore the whole area (dang, only noticed the Earthcache now) until I eventually heard what I wanted to hear, and made the find. Very cute!

Thanks for a fun cache.

Found with kingfisher_au, decided to attempt some of the central coast's nominations for the coty awards. thanks for a interesting cache. we walked all the way around this park - seems a bird happened to make a noise every time we pushed the button -then we had almost come to the conclusion that the batteries must have been flat. but as the cache name mentions "silence is golden" and we got there in the end. tftc Mumma-Kel, FP from me (1 of only 2 left- seems i give out fp too easily or there are so really good caches around)

15-Nov-15
Not found with BillHill531 on a day "down" trying to find cache of the year nominees. We were a bit confused as this was a multi, not a traditional. I liked the idea, but either it was too wet or we were just too loud, as we could not make the final find.

15-Nov-15
Out with dlturner, kazzacosmo and the group kids. Well we thought this was an easy find but it was not to be. Ok now we all need to put our listening ears on. Thanks to the geo kids that listened and then found. Wow this is a very clever geo.

#4512

We were in the area finding as many of the COTY nominated caches that we could in C4 territory and a few others along the way. We didn't choose the best day weatherwise as it rained on and off all day, sometimes rather heavily!

We found the container straight away and realised that this is actually a multicache and not a tragitional as the cache is not at the given coordinates. The heavy rain that was falling at the time made it hard to hear the call but we manages to wander around a bit and get close enough to hear it properly and soon had the cache in hand. A favourite point from us.

Been eyeing off this one for some time. After being rescued by Seaeagles1997 from the perils of a dead car battery, he recommended that I do this whilst in the area. Having a pretty good idea what the hide was, I set to work. Have seem one of these before, (possibly the same one that inspired this one on one of kels Melbourne trips?), however this one is definately better set up and a much better container than its predecessor! Gotta be quick around here, for a little while I was toying with the idea of making my own one of these! Maybe not now. Excellent hide Kel! Definitely one of the best hides on the coast! TFTC!!!!!

Out on the road today with mr_roo on a fast paced, kilometre munching cache cleanup, and grab for numbers mostly, as he approaches his 8k and me 2k.
Our destination touched Ourimbah, Gosford, Mooney, Cowan, Peats Ridge, Wollombi, Laguna, Broke, Bulga and Somewhere near Putty and Yengo, ending with a touch of Cessnock, and Chrlestown at the Asylum.

Great little cache and new type for me, luckily I had my ears on.Big Grin

Will be awarding a Favorite Point for this cache, well deserved.

I figured today whilst I was doing nothing i'd finally pull in here and have a look at this cache. I've driven past it almost everyday since published but never stopped. After noticing the favourite points accumulate quickly i soon realised this wasn't your average unexciting micro. I had an idea of what this cache might be going in to it and it proved to be right. I've only seen hides like this on the internet but never out in the field so it was nice to finally find one, and a well executed one at that!
After parking the car i was glad to see i didnt have to go very far at all and knocked over the first GZ easily. Then i was drawn over to another spot and there was the little cuckoo nestled away in his home with a pet cricket that decided to make it his home too!
Thanks for a great cache Mumma Kel worthy of a favourite

29/09/15. 9:35 AM. Cache #3057. Streak day #464.
10th of 12 this morning - Mooney Mooney Creek, Calga, Somerby & West Gosford.

After persisting and scoring a find at "Ducks", I headed into Carawah Reserve to look for this one. Hmm, no hint and a pictorial description, this could be good. As I got close, I made a quick find - that was too easy! Aha, but no, there's a twist!

Had to wait for a couple of muggles to walk off before I could use the tool, and then when it did it's thang, I worked my way to the true GZ. Signed and replaced all parts to their rightful places. Another clever, fave point worthy cache! Possibly should be a multi though? Up to "Little Black Dress" next. TFTC.

Out on a geoadventure with friends and while working through the caches in this area just had to stop at this intriguing looking one. Once at GZ we understood why silence was required. Geokids of all ages loved the find. A fav point for sure.

I am always an optimistic kind of person. Today I had meeting in the afternoon at the Central Coast, and decided to find a chunk of caches on the way. I usually plan for more than I ever seem to get, but today was an exception. After finding the last on my list I still had 20 mins, and had a look for nearby caches. What's this? Looks interesting. Very glad I came, as it was a great cache. I was wandering too far SE for a while, but spotted something unusually when checking a little bit further out.

Well done!

Parking the car near GZ I jumped out whilst geo-son sat this one out. I mean, who wants to walk as far as 10m right?! I got to coords, grabbed the cache and took back to the car to sign...What the? I should have known it wouldn't be that easy! We thought we might know what to do with this now, yet geo-son still opted to sit this one out. His loss cause it was the best cache ever! Well, one of. Have only seen these hides on youtube etc, so it was fun and I really loved it. Thanks Mumma-Kel. Definitely a fav point from us. And being a doggy gal, it was lovely to hear that fellow cachers dogs heard the call of duty for them Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Found 2:52 pm with AuroraEve. I think MummaKel has outdone herself with this cache. Well done I love it. Funny thing is I installed one of these not long ago. Now I've got other ideas. Arrived at the posted coords. Then discovered what I discovered. So now what. Contemplating what to do with muggles around me and bird life and traffic noise etc it was interesting start to figure out where GZ was but after a bit something clicked and I was onto GZ in next to no time. Nice little finish to the whole theme. Well done. Fav. I took AuroraEve over to experience it too!! I think this could likely be a mystery cache.

To borrow a WTF line ... the song going through my head is one that became a #1 hit for The Tremeloes in 1967, after being originally released by The Four Seasons as the B-side of their own #1 hit "Rag Doll" in 1964. That song is of course "Silence is Golden".

Despite the peak hour traffic racing by, I heard and followed the call of nature to where it took me ... and got a golden smiley out of my early morning diversion. Well done Mumma-Kel, I think it stacks up more than favourably with the one that inspired it.

My hopes for an easy find were high when I arrived to find I was the only car in the car park, but my GPSr was pointing directly to where a muggle was incinerating some tobacco. Eventually he finished and started wandering off down the track, but just as I was about to leap out, he stopped for a chin-wag with three other muggles who were a little way down the track.

Patience is a virtue, they say, and they eventually all moved off, leaving me with clear air to make my swoop. After quickly spotting and opening the container, I pricked my ears up, listening for the nearby call of an exotic bird. Soon I was back in my element, bush-bashing through the trees, with the bird-call becoming louder, whereupon I stumbled upon its nest.

The log signed and the bird appeased, I returned to find I still had the place to myself, so quickly rehid the container and dashed back to the safety of the geomobile.

What a fantastic cache, Kel! A favourite point is coming your way.

Came here with my son and a friend of his ('J'). J had never been geocaching before, so what a great cache to start him on! After a bit of confusion the boys had figured things out before me, and soon we had found the cache and I signed the log. Wonderful cache Kel! Kudos too for the deaf geocachers who have found this cache Smile

This is find #430 for me, this cache will get my soon-to-be-acquired next fave point. TFTC!

6739 Cache Found

Headed out to Wymong this morning foe non Geo Cache related business so has not to waste the trip decided to try for a couple of Mumma-Kel caches on the way home. Found the first waypoint with no trouble. Being as the doctors claim profoundly deaf the second leg of the journey was a little bit more difficult but managed to hear a faint call in the distance. Will have to award a favourite for this one. Great cache, Well done Mumma-Kel. TFTC

Brilliant! Great fun! FP-worthy!
Although, on this busy Saturday afternoon, the combined noise from the Pacific Highway traffic and the railway meant I had to wait ages before there was a Golden Silence break before I could track down the little fella.

This is a really well designed fun cache. Everything worked as expected, and just as well there was no-one in the carpark, they would have thought we were cuckoo. I'm not in MrsFish's good books though, because she has been asking me to do something like this since we saw one in Kiama. Thanks Mumma-Kel for a great hide and different cache container, we loved it.
