**05/11/2023, 07:15:00****Find #5542****Traditional Find #3289**Day number two of our third trip to St. Arnaud. This morning's task was to finish the Eucy drive series but first a few other local caches. The weather was fine but the wind was perishingly cold early on.**Thank-you to strange quark1 for placing this geocache**
*Found on the 5 Nov 2023 @ 7:17am.**Cache find # 15276.* Out and about with biggles1024 for the weekend in St Arnaud. We were needing a few more finds in the LGA of Buloke, so this morning before heading back to the Eucy Drive, we headed for Mount Gowar to check out this area. The track in is a bit overgrown and a couple of sections are a bit dicey for a 2WD vehicle as mentioned in the description but it was fine for the Outback.Once at GZ it was only a short search before the cache was found.**Thanks to strange quark1 for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**
Having a fabulous time up here - the rocks are something! Found lid - given last log which found remnants and time lapsed since last find and weather events earlier this year I replaced it in an obvious well protected spot. TFTC and the lure to visit!
I did find a dilapidated red plastic car which I thought wasn't a good sign. No sign of the cache for me though. I'll go back soon & take someone with me so I'm not on my own if the snaky country produces a snake.
I’d never been here, and without the feast of unloved on offer probably still wouldn’t. But the CO is right about the rocks and the views - it was worth a visit. This one was found by cousin Bruce without a lid, but still in good condition. We put it somewhere it made sense to us to put a hide. Thanks strange quark 1 for bringing us here
We found this cache on day #2 of our Lap year trip.
Selling up our hobby farm in South Gippsland and putting everything in storage we are now living on the road full time in our JB caravan and ‘doing a lap’.
Sorry for the generic log, time, data and reception are all factors in the decision to use a copy and paste log, we will always endeavour to leave one or two photos with each log and always leave a favourite point and unique comment(S) where applicable for the truly outstanding caches.
Earth, Virtual, letterbox handmade and Gadget caches are always at the top of the list for us to find.
Thank you for being on of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to find today.
Cache in good condition.

Welcome back from Covid. If there are issues with the cache after the length of time in situ please message me.
Due to a rise in Covid-19 I have made a conscious decision not to undertake cache maintenance as I feel that it doesn’t fit one of the reasons for being out during this pandemic. As I work in Melbourne in an emergency service but live regional I will not be putting myself or my community at risk.
I therefore am disabling all of my physical caches for the time being. The caches them self will be left in situ.
I won’t be deleting logs or anything like that and I intend to enable them again once I feel that my safety or that of my community won’t be put at risk.
I apologise for the inconvenience.

Being of half decent fitness,
and having an aversion of driving up any hill I could enjoy a stroll up,
the geomobile was abandoned at the bottom of the climb
First stop was this eyrie
I'm guessing that the pillar of rock nearby is the Eagle that's watching me
Meanwhile, looking up, a pair of real eagles were soaring
The pair of eagles don't seem to mind the nearby whirlygigs,
and certainly haven't fallen foul of them
With me own eagle eyes,
I soon made a meal of this cache

#4085 We were caching our way north of St A and noticed this cluster of caches on Mount Gowar on our map which drew our attention. We didn't wake up this morning intending to end up here, but we did! .
Loved the shapes and weathering of the rocks near gz and viewing the 'Eagles Beak' close up. Fascinating stuff!! Found the cache and thought, yes, snakes would love it here, but hoping that they didn't want to come out and play today . TFTC strange quark1.

This was a nice quick find for us whilst we were in the area doing an earthcache. Thanks for placing it here for us to find.
Last one for today and yet still more to do so will definitely have to come back. Thanks for showing us this area, it is lovely as area the views. Thanks for the caches also.
Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the 2019 Victorian Mega event. The weekend was spent primarily with e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98 as we geocached around the vicinity of St Arnaud. All of the events and CITOs were attended, we completed the available adventure labs and lab caches available at the showgrounds, many of the creative trails were gasped at their construction, and interesting puzzles were solved and collected during the weekend.
We all left on Thursday in two separate cars, and met up at the evening event, before finding a camp spot for the night in a very CITO location. On Friday, we targeted the StARS (St Arnaud Ramble Series) and the higher quality, well-constructed geocaches that were famous here in St Arnaud, and got lucky with the 2019 published series that we managed to snag FTFs on. Sunday had us continuing to find the other sets of high-quality caches around the neighbouring town parks, the challenge series, before spending a few hours at geocaching HQ participating in the labs that had been published. The event was also great to see some of the South Australians honoured with geocaching life awards (in amongst everyone on the list). Our final day, Sunday, had us do a big loop finishing off our geocache collection, driving all the way out to Kooreh and around via Stuart Mill, walking the conservation park at Mount Gowar, and finishing off at the GIFF event. A massive weekend that turned out to be a great mega! Thanks to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. The variety between the local high-quality caches, the new series placed by the mega team, and those who needed to be around for the labs and main centre fielding questions was appreciated immensely.
Today with our final day in St Arnaud, we went east and south focusing on some of the *Original Road* series, and the various geocaches that were placed along these routes. Once we did a loop through Stuart Mill, we did a final drive around the town vicinity finding caches. Just prior to the final GIFF event, we thought we would come here to Mount Gowar to do a hike and collect this cluster of caches. Once we completed the EarthCache, we found this cache shortly afterwards. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks strange quark1 for placing and maintaining this cache. The logbook was signed as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo, and gridge98).

Found on the trails.
Twelve months ago as we finished the Parkville Mega we were advised by someone that the next Victorian Mega event would be held in Saint Arnold. Somebody else told us that the Mega event would be held in Saint Arnood. And then another said that Saint Arned was the Mega event venue. Who should I believe? Struggling to understand the English language at the best of time. Freddo speaks two languages, Australian and Bad English.
Move forward a year. There is a cluster of events, including a MEGA event, at this town called St Arnaud burning a hole in my GPSr. The big white Pay Hero is loaded with GPSr, TOTT and camping gear and we headed east with a collaboration of like minded South Australian colleagues. DavidWazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, freddo and Gridge98 make team DEFF98.
Thursday: 5am event at a bakery in North Adelaide. The bed wetter team meets and says that this is way too early. Travel 500km east for the Thursday evening event. Freddo gets a prize. I am no mug. Camping in the bush under the stars.
Friday: Up early and headed out on the trails. And then back to our campground for a CITO! I am sure we did not make that much mess last night. More trails and 200 caches find for the day including a cluster of caches where freddo left DNA. More bush camping after a great meal in the Sporting Club.
Saturday: Up early for an event. Who puts an event on at 8am. Damn South Australians that’s who. After the event it was back on the trails and the Pay Hero is getting dustier and dustier. Found some awesome caches. Freddo the metallurgist was very impressed with the welding. Quality fabrication. And then another CITO. This time at the dump. Plenty of rubbish here. Some of it good stuff. Can I take some home? And finally a giant queue for a free meal. Nothing attracts a crowd like a free meal. The moment of the evening was receiving a Hall of Fame nomination. That prize is going straight to the pool room.
Sunday: Another night camping in the bush. Some fabulous night caches walks were undertaken. Night caching is a special form of entertainment. We spent the day cruising around picking up the left over unfound caches and meeting heaps of new friends. Boycotted the GIFF event since it did not show the freddo film “Cache Confusion” https://vimeo.com/372568752. One minute and forty four seconds of your life you won’t get back. A quick speech and it was back on the road for home. Well Horsham. More camping. This time by a river.
Monday: Caches around Horsham and following the Duke’s Highway back to Adelaide. Time for a shower for this smelly geocacher. An exhausted chocolate frog slept well.
We came, we cached, we ate, we slept; repeat for five days of fun and dust.
Easter 2020 sees South Australia hosting the next Easter big MEGA event, GeoVenture 2020 at Millicent. GC82DAN. Check it out. We would love to see you there.

Found during a trip to St Arnaud to attend the Mega event.
FeatherWaite, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday, taking a circuitous, but scenic route to St Arnaud to pick up a few caches in some other Victorian LGAs. We met up with Freddo and Davidwazza at the event that evening and teamed up to complete a couple more caches that night together before camping out of town.
Over the next three days we cached very solidly in and around St Arnaud, finding a diverse range of Traditional, Multi, Unknown, Virtual, Letterbox, Wherigo and Earthcaches as well as attending all the events associated with the Mega. We also managed to complete all the Lab caches over the weekend. Logbooks were signed D.E.F.F.98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, FeatherWaite, Freddo and gridge98).
On the Sunday afternoon, after the final GIFF event, FeatherWaite and I began making our way back to Adelaide, picking up a couple of caches before camping in the Little Desert NP. The following day we continued towards home with a side visit to Mount Rescue to pick up a few caches along the tracks there.
Thanks to all the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches. They included a huge variety of containers, hides and puzzles, many of which were very clever and/or amusing and had obviously taken considerable time and effort to construct. Thanks also to all those who organised the Mega and the associated events. I’ll be looking forward to the Mega at Millicent in South Australia next Easter!

Found as part of our trip to the St Arnaud Mega event. On Day 1, e.gregory1, gridge98 and I left Adelaide on the Thursday morning, straight after the Earlybirds event in North Adelaide. We travelled a long and circuitous route via Bordertown, Nhil and Warracknabeal to find caches in 5 additional Victorian LGAs that I had yet to visit (namely Buloke, Loddon, [Greater Bendigo - I’d previously visited], Mt Alexander, Hepburn and Central Goldfields). On Days 2-4 we met up with Freddo and Davidwazza. As a group we systematically completed each of the many series around St Arnaud and found all other caches along the way, signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, Featherwaite and gridge98), as well as attending the events and completing the Lab caches. After the Mega, e.gregory1 and I headed back to Adelaide camping out in Little Desert NP overnight. On Day 5 we had intended picking up caches around Mundulla and Mount Monster but a last minute change of plans saw us head into Ngarkat CP instead, for a solid drive and a few extra rewarding cache finds. Many thanks to all the cache owners for placing the huge variety of caches around St Arnaud and to all those who organised the Mega and the fantastic weekend away. Thanks for the cache strange quark1!

We thought this was going to be a walking track but with trails all around a nice drive was had collecting the caches in Mt Gowar all the caches are in good condition
What a big trip this was! I headed over to St Arnaud for the 2019 Victorian mega with e.gregory1, Davidwazza, Featherwaite and Freddo for the long weekend.
The weekend was filled with a lot of finds ranging in puzzles, a few events and some very well constructed hides around the area.
Day 1: I headed over with e.gregory1 and featherwaite, with the aim to collect some unfound LGAs for the guys, with only a 500km drive to the mega from home we added an extra 450km to the trip by going over to Bendigo and further south exploring some regional towns, overall we added an extra 6 LGAs with only 18 finds for the day. Was great to see some of the interesting little towns and what they had to offer for future visits.
Day 2: As a group we hit the trails in St Arnaud as a group signing the logbooks as DEFF98 (Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Freddo, featherwaite and gridge98) to save a lot of room in the logbook. We started off with the geoart Stars and thought it would take most of the day, as we finished it in 2.5 hours we were a bit surprised so hit the well constructed caches in the south of the town in the bush throwing a CITO in the mix. All the caches were amazing and something you don’t see anywhere else. Adding in 15 FTFs along the way with: everlasting, crank1 and Pwola. The evening settled in and we headed into town for a buffet dinner and a catch up with some familiar faces.
Day 3:
After attending the GV2020 event for the morning we set off to hit the last of the trails left in town of the metal containers, followed by the challenges for the mega as well as quite a few trads around the back roads. We ended the day by having a go at the lab caches at the mega then off to the CITO. I don't think I have ever seen so mant people at a tip before. Topped off the day with an evening event.
Day 4: By today the town was almost cleaned out and only a few caches to find, so we did the last few caches within a rough 15km radius driving around finding the odd cache here and there. The GIFF was finished off the mega so we decided to head to Horsham for the evening.
Day 5: After leaving our camp site for the morning, we cached for the morning around Horsham collecting a few grads and a well earned swim. Then made the long drive back home to Adelaide.
Thanks to all the COs for their cache placements and the Geocaching Victoria crew for organising a fantastic weekend away.

After a last minute cancellation of my SES plans for the weekend, I jumped in with steeba who was heading to the Victorian Mega for the weekend. With little planning we managed to pack in a whole lot of caching and driving for our 3-day trip.
Driving by night and caching by day we visited Bendigo, St Arnaud, Echuca and Wagga, just to name a few places. Thanks to all the cache owners and event organisers for a fun filled weekend.

Looking at the Geocaching Victoria St Arnaud Mega event, The Rats and I decided on a roadtrip for a few days to get down and back and also find plenty of other caches along the way. Some long days but plenty of kms and finds and a great trip all round.

Day 3 of the Mega trip with Dr Owl and there was the aim of getting my 12,000th find. Again so many options around here. A plan of sorts was hatched and we were off.
A quick break from the StARS run but not geocaching.
Thanks for the cache strange quark.

**# 26171** Found on a fine Mega Spring day while at St Arnaud
with Rebel Acts and The Green Geckos.
Many cachers and muggles around today and mostly good safe hides.
A great 4wd trek up here and a reasonably quick find.

Found staying in St Arnaud for a week to attend the Mega Event, had a great time finding some quality caches around the area, this was one of them. I teamed up with My good Mate Rosstaman and Green Gecko from Brisbane.
Thanks strange quark1 for the cache.

Found this and a couple of others on Mt Gower after completing some challenge caches down near St Arnaud. I some how mist a couple but pick them up when I return. Nice scenic area if wasn't for the wind. TFTC.
A nice quick park and grab, with a slightly differing view this time.
Nice rock formations... was wondering if the dinosaur looking feature just near GZ and the small waterhole in the flat rock next door were the eagles meal?

Apologies for the late log, heading home from Charlton and had time to visit Mt Gowar. I had never actually been up here before. Coming from the Yeungroon School side of the mountain made it tricky finding the road in but my new Oregon GPSr maps were up to the task and I soon found myself driving up the track. I was in my 4wd which made it an easy climb! Parked nearby and walked to GZ where the cache was found quickly. Thanks to strange quark 1 for bringing me up here.
We were around Mt. Gowar today checking on caches. This one was looking fine, and the eagle formation looking as cool as ever. Even better with an eagle flying overhead!
It's in place and ready to go.

We had a small window of time to spare between events and decided to check out the access to this area, so that we could return in the future. We could not help ourselves and just had to do this cache and the very nearby earthcache. The views from here are great and we look forward to the day we head to the top and check out the wind turbines. The cache is in good condition. SL TFTC
To my pleasant surprise this was all a very easy drive around a rather cool area of rocks. Cache was located easily although i wouldn't be so happy searching in summer, definitely a great spot for winter caching
We found this cache on our way home from a great weekend of caching in Little Desert. The truckasaurus made light work of this area, and we were able to park quite close to all the caches. Phew. Otherwise it would have taken considerably longer to walk to them all The views up here are fantastic, more people should come and visit this place! I am quite glad we visited in winter as, I agree, it would be snake heaven in the summer months. Thanks for the cache
We were heading up the track in the late afternoon hoping to get a few of your caches today, but we had left it too late as the sun was already setting. This find took a little while to find but then we were rewarded with the magnificent statue carved by Mother Nature.
Thanks for showing us this area strange quark1

Found this one also. Decided to walk up the track for this one didn't no if Lance would come back without a dent or 2. Nipper loved it up here, will definitely return to find the rest of the caches ran out of time. Thank you for bringing us here.
After brekky and the infamous green string to finish off a Wonderful Wedderburn Weekend, we teamed up with Wazza (minus his wenches today) to find some caches around Mount Gowar before heading home.
Wow as soon as we saw this unusually shaped rock, we could see how it got its name.
We had no idea this scenic park existed before we saw some geocaches here. A real hidden treasure. TFTC StrangeQuark1

The annual Wedderburn weekend and it's always a highlight of the calendar...
Up the hill we go to find a very unusual erosion that was well worth a photo. Quite an interesting shape.
Thank you, strange quark1, for this cache.

After enjoying the lunch time BBQ Event it was now time to venture out of town in a 4WD convoy to tackle the Mount Gower series plus any others in that area. As we came up and over the bend the first thing we noticed was this magnificent rock carving, one person said dinosaur while someone else said eagle. You would swear it had been hand carved instead of created by weathering.
Thanks strange quark1 for highlighting the Eagle.

Here in town for the Day Out in Wedderburn 2016 event, cruising around with a few other teams - picking up caches after a great lunch! A convoy of 4WDs ascended Mount Gower in search of geocaches. Here in town for the Day Out in Wedderburn 2016 event, cruising around with a few other teams - picking up caches after a great lunch! A convoy of 4WDs ascended Mount Gower in search of geocaches. We found them and a lot more! A tiger in this one... Grrr x2... and then onto the earthcache... Thanks for the cache the old blokes.

We found your cache today as we are in the area for the 2 events in Wedderburn. We enjoyed the 4 car ride along for the afternoon
The cache is in good shape.
Thanks for the cache!

Found in the afternoons convoy consisting of The Tritonz, The Empire, mischief18, Phetlern, au.fait, highrod, TR! and yours truly. We had a fantastic afternoons caching and 4WDing over and under and in and around. A very dear friend owns the Gowar Park homestead here, and when I'm finally driving past his gate, he's up North. Nevertheless we managed to collect a few smilies out this way today, and this was one of them. Thanks for the views and the cache.
Found with seven other caching teams after the lunch event in Wedderburn. Such great views from here. It is terrific to see the green in the paddocks. TFTC
Found as part of the annual trek to Wedderburn for an awesome weekend, of caching, friends and laughter.
Travelling with TheTritonz, The Empire, Sully1, HighRod, Misscheif18 and Phetlern at this stage, although this changed numerous times over the weekend.
Well we had a convoy of 4WD's now, so this was the next one we came across.
The cache was located, signed and replaced.
Thanks Strange Quark1 for pointing out this location.

Ccccccaching Capers…….
Certain city & country characters combined to conquer caches in convoy. Commencing at Charlton Views - Great views here too;
Curious cachers, climbing, calculating, clambering, concentrating on cunningly concealed containers.
Continual chattering, consultation, camaraderie & confusion, carefully completing calling credentials then……..
Continuing on - Crop a view of this, Coonooer Bridge Community Centre,
Culminating in Choose the Right One… or else Yawong. Images added.
Our thanks to strange quark1 for placing this cache.

With the 8 teams I enjoyed this large sculpture by the natural elements, and while there gathered some information for the earth cache. Another great viewing place TFTC strange quark1

Off for another bike ride up a hill, motorbike that is.
Well I have seen the landscape change quite a lot out on this hill, since my first visit. From empty paddocks to concrete slabs to towers to big a$$ fans and the changing view has been worth every trip out.
Seeing that the turbines are now spinning I was interested to listen to how much noise they realy make. Well what a surprise, they actually do make quite a humm and the odd clank.
After taking in the awe with all sences I was back on track to find what was needed.
After stopping on my way off the hill I made a quick find, and was off. But I think I stayed out here a little too long as on my way home the night was rolling in. Yep motorbikes n skippies dont mix, and here I was prime time and heading for a well known location for a meeting. Thankfully all was ok, only one minor scare but he stayed on his side of the fence.
Another great location (as always) for the cache. That topped of another interesting ride.

I was in St Arnaud for the weekend visiting friends. I found this cache while looking around the area. A very cool rock feature, I wonder if it will fall off eventually? Tftc
The last cache for this area. What a climb for most of these caches good to finish off with a nice easy one. TFTC
Find No. 1141. Found at 7.53pm
A late afternoons drive in the geo ute with geodog Penny on board. Had decided to go and have a look at the wind turbines area to see what was happening out that way and then on the way home to visit Mount Gowar to grab a cache or two.
What a great area with fantastic views. Penny however was one unhappy geodog as she was not allowed off her lead to run around due to wriggly things that are around this time of the year. We will have to bring her back when its cooler so she can run around.
Decided to make this our last find for the day as it is getting late. Will come back again to find the others and check out the wind turbines progress as well.
Took pink dragon - Left dinosaur.

Found by Roma and max.
Roma was unable to be present on our previous visit here due to family commitments so today, with a similar mission bringing both of us back to this general area, it provided us with the opportunity to show her this lovely example of elevated rock upheaval and majestic views of the surrounding countryside.
As on our previous visit we found your numbers to be accurate and container well hidden.
Thank you strange quark1.

Today I was given a chance to have a few hours to myself, so I decided that I would go geocaching as the weather was shaping up to be lovely. Last night, I planned it all out and had everything organised so I was able to head off around 10am this morning without too much fuss.
I had initially decided that I would be "reasonably fit" today and walk to all these caches, but I then saw the road and continued by Jeep to the top instead. I pulled up off the road a little and soaked in the surrounds. What a glorious spot!! I took a couple of pics, loaded up the GPS and took off through the snakey looking grass to the rock. I think it looks more like a dragon especially with the rocks jutting out along the outside. Anyway, the rocks were playing havoc with my GPS so I resorted to the cgeo app on my phone and it was a little more nicer to me and had me in the general direction and with a somewhat quick look around, I spotted the cache.
TFTC in such a wonderful area!
Took a small yellow toy car
**This is one of the caches I found to get a Nature Challenge pathtag**
Left a small pink dragon toy

Catching up on some late, very late and extremely late logs (400 in all)
I would like to thank strange quark1 for placing this cache. I always enjoy getting out and about to view this great country of ours and caching allows me to do that. Once at GZ, I sometimes find the cache quickly but sometimes it takes awhile to sus out the well camouflaged hide. Once found, log is signed and the cache is rehidden as found.
Once again thanks strange quark1.

Had a wonderful weekend away with The McLookers, Tomstache, Motndarg, Glanville Girls finding lots of caches and having lots of fun! Was lovely to visit and explore the area…TFTC
Grabbed this one while finding the nearby Earthcache. Fabulous view and really interesting area. Thanks strange quark1.
Wonderful views from up here, saw eagle soaring overhead. Cache located O.K. Thanks.
We nabbed this one while collecting info for the nearby Earthcache. Nice to see the eagles soaring overhead today. Thanks for the hide.
Tricky little hide so many awesome places for a sneaky hide of course strange quark 1 always likes to make us work hard and look around corners in crevices the eyes can't see. Well done tftc
Nards was way ahead of me on this one. By the time I'd caught up to him he'd found it and signed it. Some strange looking boulders around here TFTC
Ftf, I can wear thus badge of honour.
GPS was jumping, so
I grounded it, went away from the obvious and went hunting for a typical Strange Quark hide. I had itin hand and signed it, just as SWM approached. No other cachers in sight.
