I wanted to get a letterbox while in NZ and this cache seemed to be a good option. I read the info and was prepared to NOT mess with the flax. Well let me tell future cachers that that is impossible now. Perhaps when the cache was first placed that was possible. But now, you will absolutely have to dive it to find the cache. Further, as many logs have mentioned, there is a required TOTT needed or else you will not be able to open the cache. I did not have the right one, but the nail clippers I keep in my car served as a decent alternative. But be aware and prepared. Hopefully this will help. Otherwise, I'm glad to get a letterbox in NZ. Thanks!
The final one for our spontaneous day of caching, this style of cache we were unfamiliar with but the description gave us a very good idea and we figured why not! Its right on our back door step. The view from here was spectacular being night time and the skies were clear. Looking around we squeezed ourselves through the fence and found an item of interest, with only a ball point pen on hand I couldnt make much use of that to open the cache. Luckily Kiwi Does has deep pockets and had an item of interest that could be used. Inside we were met with a lonely log sheet and sadly not the full letterbox experience Loved the camo! Blended in nicely and did have us questioning it not knowing a TotT was gonna be needed here. TFTC & our first letterbox cache!
Heading home after another random day of caching with Reschedule. We had ignored this previously, but decided nah stuff it, lets grab it. The fence option was not a chance, there is no gap behind the flax anymore, so we went straight up the hill. The 2 members of Reschedule slipped through the top, but being the man I am, I had to find an alternative and resorted to making my own path through the flax. I soon managed to join Reschedule in behind, at which point we realised we were also unprepared not knowing that a TOTT is required. Not wanting to have to make a second trip through the flax, the MacGyver in me came out and I soon managed to open the box. I am glad we didn't plan to log it as a letterbox, as the only thing in the box was a logsheet. So altho this is our first Letterbox find, we sadly didn't get the letterbox experience.
The fence line entry track is being over taken with harakeke luckily I am on the slimmer side and managed slide through..and the bonus was the correct tools was in hand ...great camo I have seen and used many of these in my line of work . It was great to find and sign this off as wehave passed by here so many times and haven't had the opportunity to get the bootie..cache all good here many thanks Squirrel well done
We have passed this cache many times, usually going the other way or in our motor home, so it is not appropriate for parking. Today, we are on a day trip, so we were able to park safely and head on up and in. Thankfully, macwatt always travels with the appropriate tools. Thanks for the cache placement, Squirrel Nutcase.
Visiting from Canada with fivegk. This was our last find of the day, on our way back to Auckland. After approaching from the rear, we spotted it and fivegk coaxed the lid open, using our only available TOTT. TFTC, and Happy Caching!
No joy here because Mrs RG wasn't happy waiting any longer in the car, so I headed back to her. I'm pretty sure it'll still be there, though.
A group of 38 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland - Team Downunder24 - are traveling for 22 days from Frankfurt/Main via Doha to Australia and New Zealand. I was able to discover many wonderful things and irretrievable experiences are burned into my memory. Today on Leap Day we took the bus from Auckland to the glowworm cave in Waitomo and the Hobbiton movie set in Matamata, where "The Hobbit" was filmed. Completely enchanted by the film setting, we were also able to log a few caches on the way to Rotorua - this was one of them. Thanks to squirrel nutcase for the cache, luring and caring for it - kind regards from Switzerland ????

EnglishWe are six Norwegians on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. We arrived in Melbourne at the beginning of February and are traveling home after the mega event in Adelaide. We travel by car and Geocaching helps us discover many nice places and often helps to decide where we choose the route between our goals which are: Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Dunedeen, and Adelaide. This is one of the caches we found on the trip and we thank you for showing us this place. We who are on tour have the nicknames: MrVonsr, ingsve, EllenSch and TeamEika. And signs the logs with N4.Great thanks for showing us and doing our tour wonderful NorwegianVi er seks nordmenn p tur i Australia og New Zealand. Out on a geocache trip with Ellen Sch , Team Eika and ingsve on holiday in New Zealand, and today it was this area that was prioritized If nothing else is mentioned, we found the cache at good coordinates and it was fine To save space in the log, we often log in with the nickname N4 Many thanks to CO for laying out and maintaining this Greetings from Norway TFTCUte p en geocache-tur med Ellen Sch,Team Eika og ingsve p ferien i New Zealand og idag var det dette omrdet som ble prioritert Hvis ikke annet er nevnt s fant vi cachen p gode koordinater og den hadde det braFor spare plass i loggen logger vi ofte med nick N4Tusen takk til Til CO for utlegg og vedlikehold av denne Hilsen fra Norge TFTC
Cachehilsen fra Ellen Sch, NorgeMe and MrVon sr have come down to Australia and New Zealand, -an old dream has finally come to an end. Team Eika and Ingsve have also traveled with us on this trip.We have been traveling cross-country for a month, and the goal is to end up in Adeleide and mega-event on the leap year. We have especially looked for old caches, to fill jasmer'n, for a couple of pieces, and for the other two of us who have started to think about reviewing more. The vast majority of them showed up at their places, sometimes we had to search a bit, but we were usually lucky in the end. There were also some DNFs.We have mostly logged in with the common nickname N4 (ingsve, Von sr. TeamEika and Ellen Sch), but our own nicknames are also used.A big thank you to all you CO's for laying out and maintaining your caches. Without their work, we would never have been able to make a living with this hobby.Always nice to have a new smiley face on the map.Cache greetings from Ellen Sch, Norway
As a once in a lifetime holiday, this year we are traveling for 7 weeks to Vietnam, Bali, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia we meet Ellen Sch and MrVon sr and Ingsve to visit these last two countries, so here we cache together. We signed the log with N4. Now we have solved many caches so we have a large number of solved coordinates. But we are interested in all types of caches, so if you receive a log, it means that we have visited your cache. We haven't quite decided where we're going, but we'll probably let the weather decide for us. We want warmth because in Norway it is now freezing. We will stay for about 2 weeks in Australia and 2 weeks in New Zealand and we will end the trip with the Mega event in Adeleide on 29 February. So thank you very much to all of you who make it possible for us to travel around finding caches. On March 6, we set course for Norway again. There are extremely nice people everywhere and we are welcomed, we thank you very much. Thanks to our cache friends for good company on the trip.

Today we travelled from Rotorua to Hamilton. We picked up a few caches on the way.Access as described not easy during the summer it seems - couldn't help but bushwhack a little - cache found easily at GZTFTCTim and Viv - ddm
We needed to get one last "street" in the Monopoly set and this was in Rotorua. As we had a spare day we bundled Geodog into the car and headed for a day trip to Rotorua to take ONE PHOTO! We of course had to stop and attempt a few other caches on the way.Quick easy find.TFTC

Our little Aust group has a wannabe postie and it's her phobia not to leave any letterboxes unfound, well mostly unfound. This letterbox just happened to be on our way back to Rotorua so we made a slight detour to collect. Good to add to my letterbox total, thanks squirrel nutcase.
Another day in the land of the long white cloud. TeamARF, JACSTeam and I had a fab day collecting oldies and challenges. Made our way back north to Rotorua . Lots of earth caches and geology lessons today! Rainy windy cold weather dampened some plans . Thanks to all the COs fur the amazing selection of caches highlighting all NZ has to offer
Day 9: We ( TeamARF, Gcoven and myself) have travelled over from Brisbane, Australia to have a visit since we were not able to make it to the Mega. We have spent some considerable time solving puzzles and making plans in preparation. We have a gigantic list of old, interesting, highly favourited, challenges and a few Geo-arts to try and collect over the next 10 days. There is a good chance we got lazy with our logging, or space saving depending on the log size and do some joint variation of our initials - TGJ, GJT or JGT.
Today the plan is to work on collecting things of our list - some of the very old caches in the area as we head back north towards Auckland. We are also picking up a few challenges (will check qualifying once home).
Please excuse the generic log, just have extremely little data to try and survive on it for the 10 days. However, you can be assured that if we have found your cache it was special to us for some reason or in a special location - so thank you for contributing to our holiday.
I will edit logs when back in Brisbane to add more details to those that need more details and of course I will be adding favourite points as I go along.

On an amazing trip for the Tarawera Ultramarathon, this was found during our (extended) stay in Rotorua. Thanks for the cache!
Our 6th day in Rotorua and our supposed departure day. We woke up early to find out our flight to Christchurch had been postponed by a day. What to do?? Go caching of course. After a little reorganising of travels plans, we headed off. This one was the first stop off and some fun was had getting to GZ. Eventually we got there and our names signed in the log book. TFTC and bringing us here
Making an impromptu trip to Rotorua so just have to grab a few impromptu caches along the way. After passing through the roadworks we made a quick stop for this one. Thanks for this hybrid in a cool little location .
My streak continues for yet another day.
I Left work a little early today to grab this one. Definitely unprepared. The rain was coming down, no umbrella, no raincoat, no appropriate footwear but, I did have my CCF pen.
I sometimes find that I’m in such a hurry to find the cache that I neglect to read the full description. Today was one of those days.
After a few minutes searching and soaking wet, I jumped back into the car to check the phone. If only I had read this a few minutes earlier.
The description was spot on. The cache was soon in hand and log book signed

Love letterboxing so had to come along and add our stamp. A couple of lovely guardians to watch over it as well. Deserves a fave.
Been up in Auckland for the Mega and now heading home via Rotorua. Stopping for some selected cache. Not many letterbox caches around here so happy to place our signature on the log. Took the fence line. No problems. Thanks squirrel nutcase for the smiley.
Been a while since I’d found a letterbox . Thought I grab a cache before it got too dark
Didn't take this route into town, so it was good to come back up and see this area before leaving to Taupo tomorrow. Rescued a little we travelguy as well.

Easy find.

Heading back to Rotorua and happy to see this cache category. So nice to stop and stretch the legs whilst admiring the view and have a herd of local cattle watching on intently. All good to sign and replace as found.
Visiting Rotorua (from Wellington) for a few days and grabbing a few select caches around the place. This was one of them.
Stopped here as I returned to Rotorua from a day trip up further north. No problems for a good cache.

This was another one of those caches that we had been meaning to collect for awhile now but today was the day for tidying up some of the niggly little caches around Rotz. This one also gave us a chance to drop off a Trackable that we had found in The National Park a couple of weeks ago, and as it particularly wanted to be placed near water, this seemed an ideal spot for it to continue its journey. As we looped the lake I noted how little traffic there was compared to Fridays procession into and out of the city. Was a good day to head off and get this one as we were heading home on a different route. Parked nearby and headed up and easily found the cache. Good view up here of the area, thanks squirrel nutcase.
Day 2 of our visit and 20 caches were found. A real mixed bag with a Geotour one, the CANZ regional one (just AKL to go for the NI set), a couple of solved puzzles (incl a 5/5 Challenge), a letterbox, 4 Virtuals to get the Project-GC badge upgrade, an Earthcache and a lap of the lake (in the car) and plenty of great scenery.
We're off on a mini-break to the Bay of Plenty, specifically Rotorua and a visit that we had to cancel due to the last Auckland lock-down trapping us in the region. Away Friday morning and a weekend in 'Vegas' before heading back home on Monday. Nothing massive caching-wise, a few PWGTs, some Virtuals and a couple for solved puzzles was on the list and that was about it for finds really. As they say, quality over quantity (sometimes). The weather played ball and was generally good and it was good to be back in Sulphur-town after about 6 years since last visit. Thanks to all COs for their contributions.

On our way to Rotorua for an event this weekend and making a few stops along the way. GAR took the easy way to this cache and soon had it in hand. I followed the easy way back - how could I not have seen this in the first place? Not looking good for spotting caches this weekend. Thanks for placing squirrel nutcase.
Travelling to Kawerau to support a friend competing in the 102km Tarawera Ultra. Didn't have my stamp with me unfortunately but nice to see a big cache. TFTC
out with alunb and agazo today, we left agazo back at his camp so he could have a sleep and we headed back to hamilton, this was the last one for today for me, nice to see a good size container, nice view from here, tftc
What an awesome Waharoa!!kept going past the black pipe! Boom there it was. Would have to be the biggest cache I have found. TFTC
North Island Campervan trip Day 7
After the fantastic holiday I had a few months ago traveling around the South Island, making the most of one of those incredibly cheap campervan deals available at the time, I figured it was worth taking a week off work before the stresses of the usual holiday period to enjoy some of the delights to be found around the top of the North Island.
This would be a great chance for me to seek out some targeted caches such as the TMGT ones as well as some that would help me with my Jasmer grid, missing minutes (for a couple of challenge caches I'm working on) and any other caches that caught my eye.
Last night I ended up spending the night at the DOC site near Okere Falls, which was nicely quiet and a great place to start my day from. I knew that tonight I would be in Kaiwaka visiting friends there, but today would be a lot of driving to get there so plenty of opportunity for caching.
They are doing roadworks on this stretch of road, with stop/start workmen and a 50km/h speed limit. This meant that I was able to park up easily whilst heading away from Rotorua and wait for all the banked up traffic heading the other way to be let through before crossing the road. Once at GZ the cache itself only took me a moment to find. Finding no big issues with the cache or the log, I quickly added my name to the sheet and then was back on my way again.
Thanks for setting this cache up.

A quick find and I was delighted to find a large enough container for a few travel bugs. I took the container back to the car to off load a few bugs and found I had left them all back at my accommodation. This would be the perfect spot for TB's as it should collect enough traffic to spread them far and wide. TFTC.
Was here 25/5/20 and had to log a DNF (the cache was invisible, and that it my story, and I am sticking to it!)
So much flax, was on both sides of the fence, just could not find it...... but no problem today.
The area has had a big haircut. So much has been chopped back, and now the cache is out in the open. So happy that when they cleaned up the area, the cache was not removed by the gardeners.
It was by the fence sticking out like a sore thumb, mocking me for missing it last time
So happy to be finding this one, and turning it into a smiley.
Thanks for the hide squirrel nutcase, a fun find today on way to Rotorua for a mini walking adventure

On our way to Rotorua to do a bit of filming on a lovely sunny spring day. Nice view from GZ and great size for a cache. Thanks.
Great walk up. Glad the area had been cleared. Container all good. Bit slippy up. Glad to find this letterbox all bulked up.
I was heading down to Rotorua for the plaque unveiling for GC45 - the first geocache placed outside of the US.
Today I was targeting high fave caches around the city centre before heading back up to Auckland. Not too much traffic around so I was able to pull in here as I was heading north. Saw a geotrail which did not fit with the detailed description, so I didn't follow that one. Once at GZ a quickly spotted the cache. Nicely concealed here I signed the log and returned to the car.

First road trip since COVID-19 and we headed to Rotorua for a long weekend. Quick park and grab while in the area.
In Rotorua for the weekend with Jag50 for the GC45 plaque event so collecting as many caches as we can. We followed the fence line and made a quick find in the first place checked
Nice big find on our way down to the GC45 event! Loved the location! Picking up a trackable and getting on the road again! Tftc!
Great spot here - although it was my muggle hubbie that found it - not me! The colour is a great camouflage, and I looked right past it. Glad that we found it though, TFTC
Tried very hard to find this one, came up the fence line, and then back down, and up again along the ridge. Searching here and there. Spotted a white box, which had remnants of a log, but knew that was a decoy. Not sure where it was hidden. PAF, who suggested the other approach. Hmm not sure where it is, but not mine to find today
On a very rare weekend away with Mrs Tuolei and Albert the Geohound and about to get rarer it would seems with the latest announcement which came out as we were approaching Rotorua. It was quite remarkable how quiet the highways were, so quick progress was made.
I do enjoy a good letterbox cache so was pleased to pull in here and sneak up the fence line to look for this one. It is indeed possible to slide up the fenceline without trespassing and after a short search found the rather large cache.
Very pleased as I had brought my letterboxing stamp with me so stamped in to the letterbox cache as well as the geocaching logbook. The last log mentioned a TB but there was there was no TB in the cache as far as I could tell but being a good size I dropped one in anyway as well as one of my new pathtags.
Thanks for the cache - all good here.

Found after going from a different route. Big enough to be easy to spot. I signed the log and then I replaced the cache container as it was discovered.
Thanks for placing this letterbox cache.

Well finally found the right container. Last time I was here the a log sheet was put in the structure I knew it couldn't be right being a letterbox cache so left it. Return today for the souvenir and this time Dot comes up with the real cache. Not sure how we miss it last time. Good size and left a tb. Tftc
No luck on this one, tough it seemed clear to me where it had to be. But as it has been found after I was there I was apparently blind.
After battling traffic and some muggle road workers, a quick sprint ip the hill had this one found, thanks forcthe awesome view.
