Road trip today to Middlemarch to give the new/old car a run. Nice lunch at the cafe and a few caches. Picked this one up on the way home. As far as drivers roads goes this one is certainly one of the best. A lot of fun for Mr FF in his 1988 Porsche 944s. To top off the day a quick trip up 3 mile hill to get home left him with a big smile on his face too! TFTC.

A quick stop here for a nice and quick find. No problems here and the road is nice and quiet this morning. tftc

TFTC great spot we also love this drive

We found this one quickly and all though the views we could see were great we can only imagine as we had low clouds. Thanks for the cache. Smile

We overshot this cache but once we were at GZ was an easy find - it is to cloudy to see much of what would be a great view - log signed - thanks for the cache Smile

Have driven this road many a time and usually enjoy the drive. Today was the first time I’ve travelled along here in winter and normal cruising speed was not possible due to black ice in places. Tftc

As a North Island visitor I was very impressed with the road. The hills are higher than you think but the curves, gradients and road surfaces are pretty good indeed. Thanks for the placement.

Indeed, I am one of those people for whom a car is simply a method of transporting stuff from A to B. For me, there are three requirements a car must abide by:
1. it must have wheels;
2. it must have working brakes - quite important;
3. it must have a working radio.

With my current car scoring two out of three, it is suitable for purpose.

As the CO rightfully stated, not everybody "gets" it - I am one of those everybodys. To balance things out, there undoubtedly will be things about me that others won't "get".

Here is an example, one that you can easily try out yourself:
Whenever you are listening to a speech (TED talk, public speech, announcer, host, sermon, et cetera, et cetera), keep a tally - on paper or in your head - of the number of times that the person you're listening to says "euhm", "ah", "so", "yeah", "like", "but", "ok", and similar little filler words. Fun, fun, fun!
And guess what? It is a game you can play while you're driving Smile
Once you're ready, it's time to raise the bar a bit.Take a little squeeky toy with you to your next meeting. Every time someone uses one of these 'filler words', give a little squeek. Do this, and soon you will be the alpha of your office Smile You're welcome.

Thank you for the cache.

Dakotacats was doing all the driving today, but yes this is a fun road to drive. I also like the Manuka Gorge! An easy find for us early in the morning before there was much traffic on the road. TFTC

Found with 4Clubs while out and about having a mother and daughter caching day! We both went to the wrong spots first, then met in the middle! And yes totally agree about this being a great road to drive, I've always enjoyed heading through to Central Otago via this road. TFTC

Anoter quick snag and tag on our way home. Cheers. Toby needs a drink soon but hes OK till we get back to town. The Seagnoid is not convinced though.

Tuesday 23 April - Outrum, Taieri Gorge, Middlemarch and Sutton today. With Jack and Jill along for bike ride at Middlemarch, in the mix.

Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

23-Apr-19
Yep I agree. This is a driver's road. quite an entertaining drive. Made all the more interesting given that Dunedin is way the heck over there, and the fuel light is just came on. I would have stopped here and filled up with the spare tank we have in the back, but no, taybeedragon said we had enough. Turns out she was right. Maybe. I would still have filled up from the spare.

Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

Today we found The Best Driver’s Road in Otago? (Otago) on our travels. Well, wasn’t the wind blowing across here today! After stepping out of the warm car it was a wee shock! Having driven from Queenstown yesterday on some fun roads the Chief was enjoying this one just as much while I enjoyed the lovely vistas.
Thanks U.N.C.L.E. for being part of our geocaching fun.

We are on our summer holiday driving around the South Island with no real idea of where we will end up each day. We are often drawn to an area that has the potential to give us a few geocaching smilies and somewhere we have not spent time exploring before. In some cases we are revisiting placed that we have been before but liked so much we are going there again.
While in Dunedin we were mostly searching for the old caches that fill a gap on our date placed grid and some Challenge caches that fill a gap on our D/T grid.
This was on the way to one of our targeted caches at Sutton Salt Lake.
There was a wee plane doing some pretty interesting manoeuvres above us as we found this cache, so I was pretty pleased it was a quick find and we could move on. We did take time to take a photo of the power pylons heading across the ridgeline into the distance.
Thank you for placing the cache and thank you for the smiley

I had a couple of house untill my flight was departing so I decided to go out and do some more Geocaches in my rental car. I found most of them and many of these were nice boxes and fairly hidden.
Even if the coordinates are not exactly here it was a quick and nice grab!
Thanks for hiding!

It is a really good drivers road, I agree. And I enjoy those. Had to take it slow and be real careful tonight though - all icy in places.
Just a quick stop, tactically positioned car lights and didn't even need to get the torch out for finding the cache Smile

There was very little traffic today which allowed us to enjoy the drive. Another drivers road in Otago, is from Clyde to Bendigo beside Lake Dunstan. We might be biased as we have a holiday home in Cromwell.

Went to have a look at Hayes Engineering Heritage site. Well worth a visit - try and find a working day to see the original machinery in action. Also the restored homestead. Caching on the way home. As for not much traffic - truck and trailer, campervan, car, truck and trailer, car and caravan, car and trailer, then us! And not many places to pass. TFTC

We arrived in Dunedin today and traveled to Oamaru for the 2017 Geofest through Ranfurly, Nasbey and Danseys Pass. We attempted many caches throughout the long hot day and as it was the Geofest we bumped into fellow geocachers as well as a few muggles along the way. We were travelling with Keylev, UncleSam, Stik-a-Crane so to save log paper signed as Team SEAC 17.

Thanks to all the COs for the caches along the route.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)… Our journey to the bottom of the South Island has been almost two years in the planning. We were determined to make it to Oamaru Geofest. We decided to also factor in completing a couple of missions (JASMER and Virtual challenges), and the wheels started turning...

Day Two: Dunedin-Middlemarch-Arrowtown

You are quite right about the road conditions up here... A quick find. TFTC.

DAY 2
Must admit I slept in this morning. Plan was to collect some caches around Dunedin and head further North. Time and sleep will only tell where we stop.

The road down here are really good. Would have been great to have a V8 today instead of our 1500cc Holden Trac. Quick find. SLTFTC

Out for an afternoon drive along George King Memorial Drive and decided to carry on a bit to grab a couple more. GPS was telling me to go into the paddock about 12m but a quick look around and cache was soon spotted. TFTC

#4070. I have a conference down in the lower South Island over Queens Birthday weekend. So decided to add several extra days of leave to do some geocaching in the deep south. Flew into Dunedin airport this morning and lucky to land with all the fog and drizzle about. Decided to head north initially up to Middlemarch. Didn't take long to spot where this one would be hidden. Signed the log and replaced the cache where found. Thanks for hiding it here U.N.C.L.E.

23-Apr-17
2am, no cops here! Why am I awake and caching at 2am? cause I'm on a 5 day caching trip in the south island, and really need to start heading north again now. Have a few aims - right now its to up a few specific caches that I need to complete my grid for a challenge - and find some interesting caches on the way Smile 1800km later I can say I've accomplished my aim!

17-Apr-17
Great parking and a quick find. Love the drive. Cheers

Last day our Easter holiday to Invercargill. Time for the trek home...

Thanks to all of the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

15-Feb-17
Yes I have been enjoying the road with its ups and downs and bends and lovely scenery. But most of all its the caches I'm enjoying and the reason I'm driving the road in the first place. TFTC #10,046

A quick easy find, with a great view on a sunny day. We enjoy driving both this road and the Pigroot. We used to mainly use the latter as SH87 wasn't sealed all the way in those days. TFTC

Headed down south with C&D and 11HPG11 for the CHCH Mega as part of the HOAC team, and decided that a Mega road trip/Mega Mission was the right thing to do. We landed in CHCH late Friday night and after picking up the rental car we bee-lined it straight to Dunedin to grab a few hours sleep before the mission truly started.

The goal for today was to locate a certain few geocaches which help for certain challenges that we are all currently working on, and to explore some pretty cool country, before getting to tomorrows starting point in Omarama. We thoroughly enjoyed this day of the mission and saw some pretty awesome places, and managed to achieve most of what we wanted. A big thanks to everyone for placing all the caches, and I apologize in advance for the copy and past logs!

On the way to Sutton Salt Lake from Mosgiel to target the old cache out there.Yes what a great driving road, luck must of been on my side as it was my turn in the drivers seat along this section. No troubles with the find.

24-Oct-15
What a Mega Mission for a group of Hamilton Over Achievers! A great trip, a long time in the planning. I teamed up with Cats&Dragons and HKCB to grab a couple of caches while in Christchurch and surrounding areas for the 2015 Mega Event. We flew out from Auckland on Friday night and traveled to Dunedin in the dark of the night. Stopped for a few hours sleep before setting off to grab caches in the Otago area on Saturday before attempting a few more on Sunday and then arriving at the Mega on the Monday. An amazing, yet crazy road trip that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Definitely some great roads round here, with some amazing scenery as well. I enjoyed it all! Thanks for the cache

This was the start of a MEGA caching weekend in the company of good caching friends. In the company of both HKCB & 11HPG11 this was going to be another memorable caching road trip for many reasons.

After driving down from Christchurch last night, sleeping in the car in Dunedin Twisted, and getting a good early start this is the practice day for the planned mission for tomorrow Big Grin, thats not to say we are not taking the day seriously, but there were roads to travel, views to see (so unlike what we were used to in the Waikato) and of course caches to grab.

Leaving Mosgiel we were headed for Sutton Salt Lake by the backroads. All in all it was going to be a big day with a number of challenges, great sceanery, and of course great company. Fantastic driving along and up here as the landscape was so different from what we are used to back in the Waikato. One good thing about backroads being that we could continue our neferious activites without being disturbed by muggles.
Nice quick find here without any issues Cool

thanks for the placement , thanks for the cache

Found with Hevic, Natalie247, gadget169 and SirBennis. We happened upon the latter two putting the cache away in anticipation of our arrival - thank goodness that we saw them, the above power lines were playing havoc with everyone's GPSrs. Still, signed and sealed OK. Cheers!
