We decided to have go at finding this cache despite previous comments. There was a fence laneway, about 1m wide, to the church yard. It was a terrible experience. There was a very large aggressive dog lunging at the fence trying to attack us. We did search the area, and we each shed blood from the blackberry vines. We think the CO should seriously consider the viability of the cache.Sorry Jenmen 31 December 2023

With COVID19 locking everyone down for so long, a MUCH overdue geocaching mission was welcomed. FurfacesLL #1 and myself decided to head towards Bathurst and attack some of the TRLT caches and see how far we can go. Spoke to a few of the CO's prior to heading up to see if we could assist with any maintenance that was required, so we went prepared with some camo containers and some fresh log books. We had a wonderful weekend stretching the legs and enjoying the country side.

Thanks for the hide Jenmen Big Grin And thanks to the FFLL ladies for another fun weekend out and about the TRLT trails and others Big Grin

Day 2
With the COVID19 restrictions lifting, we decided to head to the Bathurst area this long weekend on a Geomission with Rapidlywild. Our intention was to attack the TRLT trail and others around the area.
We had a great four days, only a few DNF’s but mostly smiley's, and have left plenty for another adventure. Lovely area to cache in and we look forward to coming back for some more fun and laughs.

Thanks for the hide Jenmen and thanks Rapidlywild for another great weekend away.

Apologies for the generic log, thank you to all the cache owners for their efforts.

This was our third day of searching for caches on this trail, having started late in the afternoon two days again. The first afternoon the weather had been cold and wet, and yesterday dry but very chilly. Today the weather was perfect - beautiful sunshine, warmer and only a gentle breeze. The scenery was simply stunning along the roads the series took us along and so once again we had another great day out geocaching. This one took a while to find as we were searching in the graveyard rather than in the private property on the other side of the fence, but on failing to find the cache we stood back and looked further afield and then spied it lying on the ground on the private property side of the fence - so we took a chance, climbed through the fence to retrieve it, and then after having signed the log book placed it on the cemetery side of the fence at GZ as per our GPS. Thanks so much for the cache and greetings from Zimbabwe

Would like to thank all cache owners, for making and maintaining the caches.

OCW frazerdaze and marj01. House sitting at White Rock for a week has provided an opportunity to do some geocaching runs around Bathurst - mainly TRLT series indispersed with a number of trads and puzzle caches. During the day we saw lovely scenery, lots of sheep and cattle, a few foxes and one deer in the forestry area. We even encountered fire persons doing a burn off which included two of the caches we were chasing. Please excuse the generic logs and thanks to all the CO's for placing the caches and adding to our enjoyment. For expediency all logs were signed OMF.

After overnighting in Bathurst, we are looking at some of the TRLT series today.

What an awkward place. The church property is up for sale, and the gates are wired shut, So we scrambled through the prickly hedge (ouch!), and a new survey marker is near GZ, which is also overgrown with blackberry. I do hope the cache survives it all. On the way beach I decided to jump the fence.

Log signed and cache replaced at 2:18 PM on December 17, 2018. TFTC.

We are heading to Bright in Victoria, we dont have to be there til the end of the month. We are caching as we go, wherever it is safe for us to pull up with the van.

We arrived in Sofala this morning unhitched and went for a drive to Wattle Flats.

Quick find, but be wary of blackberries Thanks Jenmen

Bathurst - Muswellbrook
This was our 2nd look here, bushes are very prickly so mad it difficult to search. Glad to have found the cache this trip.
As we ventured north we stopped to find caches, stopping where we found suitable with a caravan in tow. We had a few of the RLT series to complete & a few caches in the small towns we passed through.
Thanks for placing this cache Jenmen

Leaving Bathurst we headed for Sofala and did some caching along the way. Luckily we found places to pull of the road with the caravan and once in Sofala we were able to leave the caravan at the waterhole camp near town and cache more freely. This was one of the caches we targetted and found. Thanks to Jenmen for placement of this cache and adding to our enjoyment of the area. Big GrinBig Grin

Found by Mary & David at 1030. A FP here, as Mary loves exploring cemeteries. Much to see here. Some sandstone headstones have sadly eroded and are virtually illegible. Sad to see the young ages of the children. Carvings of ivy for strength and steadfastness. Our thanks to Jenmen.

Found as part of a weekend away with Hoojar. We headed up towards Gulgong the first night and camped near the start/ end of TRLT (@ -5 degrees Surprised). The next day we made it through some nice historic places and great rolling countryside to finish up at Sunny Corner after a feed in Bathurst. The next day a few more finds before we headed home. Plenty of roadkill spotted, not many cars and not too much trouble at each cache. Thanks to all those cache hiders Big Grin.

29-Jul-17
The opportunity finally arose that Steeba and I both had a free weekend to go caching. We quickly settled upon the northern half of The Road Less Traveled series. We drove to Gulgong via Mudgee after work on Friday, camping just before midnight at the suggested TSR nearby.

Saturday we made our way via the caching trail, and the odd additional cache, to Bathurst for dinner, then back onto the trail to Sunny Corner where we again camped for the evening.

Sunday we turned our heads for home, via a few additional cache stops in Portland and Wallerawang.

A fantastic weekend away, with excellent country to be seen and company to be had. We enjoyed the caches that we found.

Thank you to all of the cache owners, and sorry for the boiler-plate logs!

Cheers

14105. Found during a run through the Bathurst to Mudgee region this long weekend.

Having completed the southern part of TRLT series last month I had the northern part of the series on my radar for this long weekend - plus as many extras as there are along the way. Leaving home this morning I was caching before lunch on the outskirts of Bathurst heading north. All but two of today's caches were found and all were nicely hidden with good sized containers. This was the next find for the day. Quick find at GZ. Log signed, cache replaced, and I headed off to the next one.

Thanks to all the COs for their caches - it was a great run up through this area.

Road trip North to tackle The Road Less Travelled Series with JordsAU! I’ve wanted to try this trail for a while but hadn’t found anyone to try it with. I ran it by Jords a few weeks back & after checking the roster for the week, the stars aligned and we started organising it. He was aiming for “200 caches in a day”, so we planned the trail as best we could!

Monday – we drove up to Gulgong to start the trail. We worked our way down to Mudgee (~30 caches) before setting up camp for the night. We had an early night so we could smash out a big day.

Tuesday – packing up at sunrise and setting out, the big day begun! We reached the first 100 by 2:00pm (7 hours elapsed). We were worried that we weren’t going to reach the 200 milestone considered how far we had to go and how long we had been tracking! The stretch from the Great Western Highway to Oberon made great time and we were on 150 caches. Instead of heading into Oberon to set up camp in daylight, we decided the best use of the remaining daylight would be to push through into the night for the last 50. Eventually we were down to the last handful, when we hit an area of the forest that had been logged. To make up the last few, we assumed there would be caches in Oberon, so we drove 50km back to town. We made the 200 at the Oberon Memorial Site and called it a (long) day.

Wednesday – I was all ran down from the big day, so we made our way back home! I found a few in Sydney, and made the drive back down home. It was a good to unpack and have a nice hot shower. Now for the long laborious task of entering these logs!

Thank you to all the Cache Owners along this trail. It was a real joy to visit another part of this great country we call home. It’ll be easier for me to return to the trail via Goulburn/Crookwell to finish off the series (and hopefully visit any further extensions). TFTC’s!

2/5/17 Found with muppet95. Muppet95 mentioned to me that he was keen to hit up The Road Less Travelled series and we decided to take a few days off to go on a bit of a road trip. I wanted to shoot for a goal of finding at least 200 caches in a 24 hours period and we made plans accordingly. We drove up to Gulgong on the first day and arrived in the early afternoon. We started The Road Less Travelled series there and headed south towards Mudgee, picking up approximately 30 geocaches on the way. We spent the night camping on the outskirts of Mudgee and had an early night, with the expectation of an early start to have the best chance of reaching our goal of 200 caches the next day. At the crack of dawn on day 2, we packed up camp and set out on the trail, finding our first for the day at 7 AM. We then spent the next 14 hours travelling The Road Less Travelled, caching the series and picking up some additional caches along the way. We powered on well after the light of day had disappeared, because we were on a mission and were resolute in our efforts to achieve our goal for the day. We reached a point, down near Gurnang in the pine forest, where the area a cache in the series was supposed to be had been logged and we could not continue, without backtracking and going the long way around. We made the decision to turn around and head back to Oberon, where we would pick up the last remaining few to reach our target number. I am very sad to say that on the way out of the pine forest, a wombat ran out as we were driving past and was struck by the underside of the car. We stopped immediately and I rushed over to its aid. The poor thing was in not in a good way and I did what I could to provide some comfort but it faded away within a matter of minutes. The accident is very distressing and upsetting, and it put a real dampener on a long and tiring day. There was nothing we could do at that point, so we continued on our way back to Oberon, picking up some more caches in town. We reached our campsite and setup, keen to rest up and have a deserved sleep in. It was another cold night, definitely dropping below zero degrees. We woke in the morning and, after packing up, we made our way back to the big smoke. Thanks For The Caches to the respective Cache Owners, and for putting this series together, which takes us on a different route along the Road Less Travelled. We will have to come back at another point in the future to try and finish off the series, and hope that one day the series may be extended further for everyone’s enjoyment.

Found with Brewmaker while on a two day adventure finding caches in The Road Less Travelled trail series and other nearby ones.
We started at Meadow Flat and then headed north (having previously headed south on another adventure) through Sunny Corner and Palmers Oakey before camping overnight at Wattle Flat. Then it was on to Sofala Sally's Flat, Pyramul and heading north towards Mudgee before we ran out of time. Will have to come back to finish the series. Most caches were easy to find and it was a very enjoyable drive along these country roads some beautiful scenery, historic places, native animals etc.
We found this at night under the guidance of torchlight.

Found with MikeV1. After setting uo camp at the racecourse we decided to go in search of some "night" caches. And what better place to start than a cemetery! Spooky, but fun. Took awhile in the dark until I decided to approach from the cemetery side. Soon found now I had a better view.

Over two days we managed to grab 100 finds while attempting part of TRLT series. We started at Meadow Flat and headed north passing through Sunny Corner, Dark Corner, Palmer's Oakey, Mt Horrible, Turon, Wattle Flat, Crudine, Sally's Flat, Sofala, Pyramul and Aaron's Pass, before detouring to Mudgee to refuel and then head back to Sydney. We had a great time taking the Brewmobile along these rarely used country roads, seeing some amazing scenery, old homesteads, cemeteries, plenty of wildlife and natural landforms along the way. Most of the hides were easy to find with good coords and hints. Thanks to all the COs for the time & effort that has gone onto placing these hides.

Day 2 of 23 of our caching trip to Alice Springs, finding 300 caches in total. This was find #31 for the day.

We did The Road Less Travelled with Calypso62 and skebomonkeytown, staying at a lovely property in the Capertee Valley for two nights.

Thankfully Calypso spotted this as we were prepared to launch into the sharp blackberries in the corner!?!

Day 2 of our fabulous adventure with Skyebomonkeytown and Team Canary.
After enjoying a delicious dinner at the Capertee pub last night and staying over at my mate’s place in the valley, we commuted back to The Road Less Travelled to continue the journey. It is obvious this series took a lot of effort to organise and to get it up and running. A big thank you to all the COs for your hard work. It is greatly appreciated.

02-Apr-17
Had a great weekend with Calypso62 and Team Canary attempting the first half of TRLT (most logs signed as a combo of C62 TC and SBMT). We stayed at a friend's place in the Capertee Valley and "commuted" both days through the lovely countryside. We also incorporated the Mudgee parkrun into our weekend on Saturday morning - C62 and my first. Thanks to all COs for the series.

So this one took us quite some time and man are those blackberries sharp (we assumed that was not what the 'black' was referring to, but unfortunately the 'black' didn't help us to find it, although it made sense once we had found it).

This one took a while to locate. Which side should we search on. We all got seriously attacked by the blackberries. Two locals were with a mare and her foal over the other side but they paid no attention to us. After locating the cache I turned around and the foal was approaching. While familiar with horses I know enough no to upset momma so I quickly retreated and left the rest of the signing and returning the cace to drobbonz and kiwisteve2. Here from Portland Oregon visiting friends for the holidays. Doing part of the TRLT trail. Found with drobbonz and kiwisteve2. This makes 300 days in a row of caching. Tftc

Off on a Sofala safari with rogerw3 ...

The 'mushroom was not over keen on a revisit for this cache with memories of a blood-stained DNF seek.

Somewhat baffled, with the Garmin indicating a different GZ, this day's seek also drew some blood, but the hint at least made sense and a quick find was made. Seen now, reviewing the DNF log, that the coords have been changed ... Thanks for the cache, Jenman Smile

Up from Canberra on a solo geomission to Bathurst, Mudgee and surrounds Big Grin The focus of the weekend was to attack as many of the TRLT series as I could as well as any others along the way!

Most of these were found quite quickly and I enjoyed the drive around the countryside collecting them. Apologies for the cut/paste logs - I found so many on the journey I can't possibly remember them all!

As we approached, I noticed the dreaded prickly brambles and almost turned-back as I had suffered badly from their barbs while searching for caches yesterday. However, in this instance, they were not an issue and the cache was soon in hand. It was our forty second TRLT cache.

After finding this cache we went to the general store to buy lunch and dry off, completely forgetting to attempt the nearby multi-cache.

Thanks Jenmen for your wonderful contribution to this extraordinary cache trail. I’m sorry we missed a few due to the weather but we will endeavour to return later in the year.

We discovered all those many a couple of days ago.

We have solved all the interesting mysteries before we started our trip to the Mid Western Region of NSW.

Day 1

We started the day in Meadow Flat, followed by Sunny Corner and Dark Corner past Palmers Oakley.
We loved the hilly nature along many peaceful Gravel roads. Many smilies were forming on our map.
We finished the day in Bathurst.

Day 2

We started all fresh again in the morning. Leaving Bathurst, we were able to get going about faster along the sealed road.
We reached Sofala at around lunch time. We couldn't believe that about 40,000 used to live here. It really seemed that the city stopped developing in around the 1850's..
We continued towards Hills End and Windeyer through dry grassy land in 47 degrees heat.
We spend such a beautiful night here in Windeyer in the caravan park. We booked one of the train accomodation where you got to stay in the train back in time. What a great experience. We really liked Windeyer as it seemed so far away from all the city rush. Te locals were very welcoming and were happy to see us in the pub next door for dinner.
What a great community living were it seems like everyone knows everyone.

Day 3

We left Windeyer after a big breakfast. We travelled along Hills End Road until we reached the turn towards another Gravel road. There wer many animals to watch and it got even hotter and hotter.
This day ended in Mudgee.

Day 4

We took a look at Mudgee city today were we searched for a couple of caches and ten continued towards Rylstone.
After we continued to the Wollemi National Park which a good friend recommended us to go. Here we climbed on the top of the mountain and simply enjoyed the stunning view and the tranquil nature.
After, we traveled towards Kandos, Capertee, Cullen Bullen, Portland and Wallerawang back home to Sydney.

We hereby would like to thank all owners for this great interesting tour. We got to see many historical places and sometimes felt like as if we were living back in the the 1850's, which is a good thing.

Thanks

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

We did this series a few months ago but this cache was inactive at the time. We were in the region this weekend so we naturally wanted to find this cache. We made a quick find here.

What's with the Robert Frost quotations I see appearing in previous logs (not just this cache)? I know the poem, I get the connection. It's not the only poem Frost wrote. I'd go for a poem less quoted, personally, like Mending Wall:

Something there is that doesn’t love a micro,
That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it,
And spills the rock hide to the sun.

I might have misquoted that. Thanks

Continuing on TRLT series which we started last year. Finishing this series off as and when we have time.

Apologies for the generic logs, when doing so many caches it certainly is easier. I will however note anthing extra on caches that need it.

Thanks to all COs for participating in this series of caches for us all to enjoy.

This one was offline when we last came through Wattle Flat. Finding this one today means we now have the series completed, except for the archived one. A great series that we really enjoyed finding.

The car GPS wanted us to access this from a side road and cross over private property. We looked around and found the actual entrance on the main road. The GPS does that sometimes, it thinks it can save us time by taking us closer, but ends up taking us more time while we work out ourselves where we need to go.

Thanks Smile

Firstly, happy new year to all and may 2016 be DNF FREE! Lol

An early start this morning with the hopes of achieving 100+ caches in a day. Headed north from Mudgee to start a large loop heading back south and west. Loving this drive - lots of livestock and other wildlife including Roos, foxes, rabbits, birds. The road trip took almost 12 hours in the end. Big day!

This was cache #92. A quick find once I walked around to the correct side of the fence. TNLN TFTC

#3333- At first I took this literally rather than figuratively, so I hadn't realised exactly where I was heading. Once there, it was an easy find. We stopped here to top up petrol (avoid if you can - 60c dearer than the closest ones- captive audience) and have an ice cream, because its so hot. Thanks

Out today with Paul the Hippy. Thanks hippy for driving me around grabbing these caches. We had a great day, even when I got a little grumpy at the end of the day. Woke up after spending the night at medow flats. Had a lovely time finding the ones towards Sunny corner. we even went for a walk and grabbed a few which werent on the series. Got to sunny corner and checked out the old tennis court and dance hall.
After sunny corner we continued to dark corner (great with names out here). Visited acouple of cemeteries and continued down the road until it turned dirt. This was our favourite section oof the series as no cars and felt like we were in the middle of nowhere.
Past Mount horrible we went, thinking why is this called horrible and then onto the tar again. Completed a few puzzles and then back on the series.
Following the black top we went, here the pull offs were better then the second section of the series. Loved the town of Peel, where we grabbed a puzzle and acouple in this series. Got to wattle flat and was exhausted. Had fun with the blackberries in the dead center (NOT). Finally made our way to sofala. Lots of history here and visited another cemetery for a puzzle. Thanks for all the caches, lots of hard work went into these and really enjoyed them. Cheers mr_roo

I was really disturbed here. There was serrated Tussock in the grass. A horrible weed that is a major threat to agriculture and the environment around here/ It was the first time I had seen it since leaving Victoria. I did see it later on over fairly wide areas, which was very sad.

Cache was quickly found when on the correct side of the fence.

It took us awhile to find the entrance to the cemetry. The bushes were so prickly we decided to give up before we got too many more injuries.
Thanks
