Beautiful even on a rainy winter day.

26-Mar-24
Ship Rock Falls were amazing.Especially the caves underneath. Waterfalls, glow worms, caverns, the whole lot. What a ripper spot this area is.The rock just tops it off. Those veins are quite cool to see.

26-Feb-24
This was our first visit to Shiprock falls and we spent a fair bit of time checking out this beauty of a boulder. Its amazing the places geocaching and EarthCaches have taken us to over the years.Once the required information was gathered, we then headed off to the falls. Thanks TeamThommo for the geology lesson and for bringing us to this great location. Permission to log received.

Staying a few night at Kurth Kiln campground with my 2 daughters, what a beautiful waterfall its so nice and calming. Gathered info required for this EQ and sent to owner, got the all ok to log this cool Earth Cache. Thanks Team Tommo.

TwoEms have a few twisty blue veins, but no one stops to admire them like the prettier ones on this granite rock. So impressive are the ravishes of time, and so slow it movesso slow, so still, we stood inside its dark dark belly, waiting for the great big giant to eat us up. Thank you for the cache.

13-Sep-23
Catching up with late logs.We were about to head off for the last QOGM event so we were running around doing maintenance on our caches before we left and with an earth cache so close to ours here we just had to give it ago. We were glad that it was an earth cache as there was a family of kids climbing all over the area that I was trying to examine. We have always admired this boulder but this is the first time that we have checked it out this closely. We are going to have to learn to open our eyes a bit as we walk around. We have finally sent the answers off to the CO.Many thanks Team Thommo for another interesting earth cache, a favourite point from us.

Found with the kids while Mrs Fergzter was doing scout training at Gilwell Park. Back in the day I came here for rock climbing in outdoor education when I was in highschool... Last millenium lol. How times change. TFTEC

Good to see such a big rock

27-Apr-23
Out with Rebel Acts caching for the day, we stopped to pick up this Earthcache we were both mesmerised my the climber climbing what appeared to be shear rock face. I gave him a round of applause when he got to the top and would have liked to have given it a go myself but maybe on a different rock with more footholds.

26-Apr-23
Out and about with Tiz13 cleaning up a few unfound in the area.

This is one of the caches found today. Popular spot with rock climbers when we visited.

Thanks TeamThommo for the cache.

21-Apr-23
I found this cache today in company of Pprass on our Mountain Meander. Finally another earth cache for us to bring our tally to 49, still way off the mark for some of the challenge caches around. Our 3rd geocaching visit to this spot, having found our 422nd, 1,922nd and now 15,183rd find here. A pity not to have also ended in '22'. Thanks from D B-A

21-Apr-23
We were there at 2:46 PM in the company of Rabbitto GAFF1.
A big surprise when we turned the corner and saw the monolith! Then we saw that there were chains to help people get to the top. Must be a popular spot for climbing!
Thanks to TeamThommo

I have been working on trying to qualify for the [WCW - 6 Types every day Challenge (GCA0HZQ)](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCA0HZQ) ever since it got published back in October and with only a few more cache types on a few more days to go I am getting close.

Well today I needed to find both a Letterbox and an Earthcache to finish off all my required cache types on the 22nd and to finish off my last required Earthcache!!!

So today after work I started looking for possible options of letterboxes and Earthcaches and that is when I noticed this Earthcache was near to the [Manfred's Birthday Bash series](https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9Y9F6_manfreds-birthday-bash-07), which has a few letterboxes.

So I headed to this one first, and I was just blown away by the beauty of the Shiprock Falls boulders. I normally love to do non-technical tree climb caches as it reminds me of my childhood, I was always climbing on things. So when I saw the handholds, I knew I had to climb to the top.

*Wow! just Wow!*

Such a fun climb and such beautiful sights, I almost forgot I was out here to log this Earthcache. So I did my best to gather the required the information and after I sent the information to the [CO](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=4c35ffd9-cbf9-4dbe-94cc-36f6cee19efa&wid=f1365195-c397-4fa7-ba4a-48af4828e55d&ds=2) I just laid on the rock basking in the sun.

A huge thanks to [TeamThommo](https://www.geocaching.com/p/?guid=4c35ffd9-cbf9-4dbe-94cc-36f6cee19efa&wid=f1365195-c397-4fa7-ba4a-48af4828e55d&ds=2) for bringing me out to such a beautiful and amazing spot.

This one definitely earns a favourite point from me, big thanks for the fun and TFTC.

Thanks heapf for the earth cache, hopefully oyr answers are good enough, completed this location with JfindZ also. Sent off my answera to the best of my non-geology ability.

A little moist this morning, but the hard granite seems to be able to cope with a little weather - answers sent, now back to the car to put the heater on. TFTC.

What a gorgeous place! And the thought of bouldering was tempting but with a broken thumb thought better of it. Love that this HUGE granite monolith is just sitting here.
Answers (to the best of my ability) sent to CO owner.

This is a really impressive boulder - love that you created this earth cache here. We had a lot of fun bouldering all over the waterfalls further on as well. An ace day. TFTC

It has been many years since I last visited this site. Strange that, as it is so close to home.
We enjoyed a short visit and watching the water flowing down the falls.
I notice that some climbing equipment has been added to the rocks here, but I'm not sure how I feel about that. It's good for people who respect the environment to be able to get up close and personal with it, but we don't want damage to be caused. Hmm!
Thanks for giving us the nudge to return here, TeamThommo. It's a great spot.

After spending the night camping nearby and attending a few geo events, LeeLee headed here on the way home.
I was told this was a great spot to visit and wasn't disappointed.

A FP added for the location and experience.
Thanks TeamThommo answers sent.

Found with Posums and LukeSistema whilst camping and eventing in the area. Great spot here. Love ECs and waterfalls. Answers sent via PM. Thanks for the cache!

17-Sep-22
I was over this way for the weekend to attend all of Manfred’s birthday events.
Unforeseen circumstances resulting in me missing his birthday breakfast this morning but hopefully I can make it up to him at lunch.
So after attending the nearby CITO Gemma, Luke and I headed off to find a few more before the next event.
Something different this time as I was the navigator and Gemma the driver as it is usually the other way around when we catch up.
As they say just one more cache well in our case 2 as there was a trad there as well.
The showers started again so we grabbed the coats and umbrella and headed off to find some answers.
Answers have been sent to the CO.

Thanks TeamThommo TFTC

Solved this puzzle with RoamingHowie and OzHockeyChick.

Thanks for the adventure and walk amongst the beautiful green ferns

Camping at the nearby Kurth Kiln campground for the weekend, we set off to explore the waterfalls. I’ve been here before but it was before I was caching, so today was a good chance to find this earthcache.

We set about measuring and answering the questions and then headed for the falls.

A great spot to explore here. Answers have been submitted to the CO.

Thanks TeamThommo for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

One last stop was made for the day at Ship Rock and I got to work straight away on this EarthCache.
Luckily there were only two other muggles here who were having too much fun scrambling over the rock to notice me staring closely at it.
The required answers were gathered after a bit of thinking and a few laps of the behemoth.
A prompt response was given and logging approval was hence received.
Another EC full of interesting information as always with this CO!

Thanks to TeamThommo for setting up this EarthCache! Smile

What a beautiful location for a wander around on a loverly day.
This big rock looks so out of place where it is positioned, but beautifully aged where it is.

Thanks Team Thommo,
Went out to Ship Rock today, thanks to your encouragement, looked at it in a completely different way. Used to be just a good platform to Abseil off.

Out caching with day1976, he has done most caches out this way and I had found nearly none, but it was still within my 25km lockdown radius and we were trying to avoid crowds on this long weekend.
I have always loved big boulders. Nice spot that I have been meaning to come to for some time now. The falls are flowing a lot at the moment due to all the rain (and flooding) that we got recently.

28-Feb-21
After a fun couple of nights camping at Kurth Kiln, we made our way home via the falls here. Our route took us past this very impressive rock formation, which from one angle reminded us of a submarine. As the family explored the area, I made some notes about the Earthcache. The youngest family member had a blast climbing around the rock. Message sent to CO with (what we hope is) the answers. A few trackables visited, including my Earthcache geocoin. TFTC TeamThommo - another great EC!

We decided to spend some time in this area that we’ve only just discovered, thanks to Geocaching! A truly lovely area, with people swimming in the nearby creek under the waterfall. The Ship Rock is an imposing natural feature; it looks like it’s just been plonked on the landscape.

Thanks to TeamThommo for yet another excellent Earthcache and geology lesson. Answers sent to CO with accompanying pics.

I happen to drive past here on rare occasions. Today the carpark was totally empty which was too hard to resist.
I enjoyed having the area to myself and walking as best i could around the rock. Really impressive and photo-worthy.
I hope to bring the rest of the team back here soon to explore and visit the falls.
Earthcaches always make feel like im studying for a test. Ha.
Test answers submitted later today.

Very much enjoyed coming to this spot. Although we have seen Ship Rock before, this made us look a little closer and think a little harder! Geokids loved scrambling over the rocks. We then went on to see the waterfall and climb back up the rocks along the side. Thanks for reminding us this was a great place to visit and for giving us an excuse to get out and about on a dreary winter afternoon.

Off for a short afternoon adventure with the family. L player son enjoyed driving on the windy roads here, and you could feel him starting to get into the racecar driver mode.

Got to Ship Rock and watched a young girl being coached up the last bit of her rope climb to get to the top. Kids had fun climbing and exploring in the holes.

Thanks for the cache Team Thommo

After camping nearby last night we spent the day exploring the area. It was our first time visiting Kurth Kiln so everything in this RP is new to us.
A great spot here at Ship Rock which is obviously one of the highlights of the area.
The climbing was quite tempting but all the climbing gear was left at home this time.
Ship Rock seemed to attract more visitors today than the nearby falls.
EC answers emailed and promptly confirmed by the CO.
Thanks for highlighting this great formation, TeamThommo.

It has been a long time since I visited Ship Rock. It was probably the late 90s when I got my license and spent many weekends driving around the backroads of Warburton and surrounds, enjoying my newfound freedom.

So today it was good to re-live that freedom, this time with Dee, who hasn't ever explored the area despite living in Melbourne's south-east all her life.

Thanks Team Thommo for bringing me back here, and introducing somebody new to this lovely part of Melbourne.

Climbed, hid under ran around this big rock when I was a kid not noticing a thing about it. Thank you for giving me a lesson. TFTC.

Thanking you!

17-Jul-19
Saw a beautiful little waterfall down the track that I love the green ferns during winter. Lovely light rains here. Very interesting rock to look around. Logged it with permission from CO. Thanks TeamThommo for placing this earthcache

01-Jan-19
On my way up from the falls I stopped in the shade of the big rocks to examine granite veins - not something I would usually do Smile

Thanks for the cache.

18-Nov-18
Wow, this is such a brilliant location! There were already two vehicles in the nearby carpark when I arrived, but the occupants were elsewhere (down at the falls) for the entirety of my visit, so it was a pretty damn fine thing to have this place all to myself to poke around. Can definitely see why it would be popular for a spot of bouldering, climbing, etc.

With time to spare I spent a leisurely while wandering about, making observations and notes, taking lots of photos and generally just soaking up the "big weird rock amongst the trees" vibe.

Logging this with permission from the CO - thanks for bringing me to this stunning and fascinating location, TeamThommo! (Having shown my kids some shots last night they're keen for the whole family to come back so they can experience it in person.)

What a massive rocks!
Glad I stop here to look around include cache. Love g with permission by CO.
Thanks for bring me here

27-Oct-18
Our goal today was to explore this area after Rob stumbled on the reserve during the week on a work trip. Time didn't allow to walk to the falls or the rock, and so we planned a day of caching around the area. We were a bit surprised that the rock and waterfall were so close to the carpark and so easily accessible. The place was very quiet when we arrived in the morning, but as we were leaving a couple of cars arrived.
Thank you so much for highlighting this area with an Earthcache and explaining the geology behind it. We are so lucky to have so many beautiful places on our door step.
We are giving a favourite point, as places like this are what caching is all about.

14-Oct-18
We have been to this area before and admired the Granite. That was before we decided to try and learn more about our geology. Todays visit put a different perspective on looking and learning. Thanks for bringing us back TeamThommo. Answers sent.

06-Oct-18
It had been two years since I visited ship rock - many a time I had abseiled down it with the odd rock climb over the years as an 8th Knox scout. Back then I hadn't appreciated how it naturally got there - this earth cache was a good exercise to study the rock while my kids were in awe of its size. Answers sent / reviewed by CO - tftc.

08-Sep-18
A beautiful spring day so up into the hills I went.
Two cars greeted me but only one couple to be seen.

The rock was an imposing figure. I got the required info and pics and headed down towards the falls.

Thanks TeamThommo, another great EC in a stunning location.

Since moving from New Zealand in 2016 I have been enjoying the area, exploring and finding caches.
So far I’ve knocked off 4 of the states. VIC, SA, NSW and A.C.T all multiple times.
No two areas are the same here and almost every place I go to is stunning. The beauty of caching is that it takes you to so many places you would never usually find.
Thank you to all the cachers out there for hiding and maintaining their caches. Especially to those who put so much effort into creating unique and fun hides.
I enjoy finding well maintained caches in fun and unique cache containers. No one likes finding a mint tin – but a find is a find after all.
Well she was an American girl
Raised on promises
She couldn't help thinkin' that there
Was a little more to life
Somewhere else
After all it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
Yeah, an d if she had to die
Tryin' she had one little promise
She was gonna keep
Oh yeah, all right
Take it easy baby
Make it last all night
She was an American girl
It was kind of cold that night
She stood alone on her balcony
She could the cars roll by
Out on 441
Like waves crashin' in the beach
And for one desperate moment there
He crept back in her memory
God it's so painful
Something that's so close
And still so far out of reach
Oh yeah, all right
Take it easy baby
Make it last all night
She was an American girl

Big a sorry for the delay in logging not sure what happened!
Out and about with Happy Feet1 and happy pants for our Bday weekend.
After collecting the required info made a run for the car due to the rain.
Cheers for the cache.

Found while heading away for a few days with Happy Feet and omegaman1971 on our annual caching weekend and we decided to grab few caches along the way. We decided to stop and attempt this one while the rain had eased for a bit and we discussed our answers as we explored the area a bit. The things you stumble across while you are caching eh? The answers were submitted as a group and we promptly got the all clear to log, many thanks TeamThommo for the Earth Cache and for for giving us a reason to stop and take in some uncharted areas to look around.

Away for the weekend with omegaman and Happy pants grabbing a few caches.
It started out as a reasonable day but slowly deteriorated, along with my ability to make some of these find.
This was an amazing area to explore but would be more enjoyable on a warmer day.
Logged with permission.
Thanks TeamThommo for placing the earth cache for us to discover.

It was raining today, but that didn't stop us checking out this cool place! Beautiful area - although noticed some graffiti on a couple of the veined rocks which is just disrespectful... Also got to see the lovely waterfall nearby!

16-Mar-18
With the other half of our teams on a mission hiking through the Bunyip, Beck of beckNmonts and myself concentrated on Letterboxes and Earthcaches on this side of Melbourne while taking advantage of the late summer weather. As we approached GZ we thought the large rocks in front of us on the left was the Earthcache but as we got closer we saw the gigormous formations on the right that put the other ones to shame. Wow! Very impressive rock formations with equally impressive veins to study. Once we collected our answers we were off for an exploration of the area.
Thanks for bringing us here TeamThommo we were duly impressed.

16-Mar-18
Today I saw veins. Well a Triton pointed them out to me. And I felt them. Interesting. I think I have spent far too much time ignoring rocks. Maybe I’ll turn into a rock nerd soon. Maybe Smile TFTC TeamThommo

The geo kids and I were up visiting the geo parents for a trip out in the 4WD to see some of the locations around Kurth Kiln Regional Park & the Bunyip State Park. It was a great day out and we were able to stop for a few caches along the way. A very interesting area and a nice walk. We had fun climbing where we could on the rock and exploring for the answers to this Earth Cache.

**Thanks to Team Thommo for creating an Earth Cache here for us to discover and enjoy**

31-Dec-17
On our way back from the Mega at Alexandra, we called in to part pf the Kurth Kiln Regional Park and collected information for this Earthcache. From the car park we had no idea that these boulders were so close by. The boulders are very impressive and this earthcache gave us the opportunity to take a detailed look at them. As we were a little pushed for time (still other caches to look for during the day), we didn't visit the falls. That will have to wait for another visit. Answers to the questions for the earthcache have been forwarded to the CO for approval. Thanks Team Thommo for bringing us to such a lovely and interesting location on our way back to catch the Spirit of Tasmania for home.

28-Dec-17
While in the area today, I spied this earthcache and decided to pull in. Not only did I see a great example of local geology, I walked a little further to enjoy the waterfall. Thanks TeamThommo for making me stop today. Stunning area. Answers e-mailed.

After a wonderful wedding in Yarra Glen last night, we decided to make our way home today - the long way of course! Via a couple of nice earthcaches to get the souvenir for earthcache weekend. Sooooo... that's a rock alright. We were able to up close and personal with the rock, reading and answering the questions before heading down to check out the waterfall. Logging with permission. Thanks for the earthcache TeamThommo.

Found it, answers sent to the CO. I actually stopped here last week to grab the nearby Trad, but resisted getting the clues for this one as I knew I needed an earthcache for international earth Cache day (which is actually international earth cache 2 Day's, must be an American thing). So I knew I would be heading home very early in the morning, but at the time hadn't figured on daylight savings, so was here this morning in the semi darkness trying to answers the CO's questions. Hopefully I got it right on this first day of the 2 day international earth cache Day.

28-Sep-17
Found this amazing boulder thanks to Team Thompson. Their Earthcaches are well worth the travel because they are so well organised and informative. Just a short way off the road is this amazing boulder with really thick veins running through it. While I was exploring the rock a pair of blokes came down admiring it, then they climbed it! I had to leave, so I went down to the waterfall lookout. I was pleased to see them safely back on ground and I didn't have to call an ambulance or anything. Thanks for another great Earthcache Team Thommo!

Out and about with the family today, doing a little exploring in the Emerald, Beenak, Wesburn and Warburton area. not after many cache, just a select few including a couple of the local earth cache and perhaps some waterfalls, rock climbing and a little bit of light caving. Lots of fun today. TFTC. Great little spot here and struggled to keep teh 10yr old off of the rock, last thing i need is him stuck at the TOP! Thanks again TeamThommo. Awaiting CO to confirm answer but logged for now.

My parents have recently moved nearby and this was my first visit to Ship Rock Falls for about 20 years! Brought the kids to see the grandparents, and dropped in to the waterfall on the way here. Kids were very impressed with the size of the rock , climbed up a bit and helped me answer the questions. I never knew all this stuff about granite. We weren't game to try to climb the whole thing though! Thanks for the cache and bringing me here.

10-Dec-16
Caching in the area we checked out this impressive granite rock. The veins were certainly a unique feature and we enjoyed our visit here.

Thanks for your prompt response and for the Earthcache - logging with permission.

It's Earth Cache Day and its blowing a gale and trees are following everywhere, so let's head to a park full of trees to get a virtual souvenir!

Despite living not that far away, we'd never visited this area, so it was a great to finally get up this way. A short walk had us at the magnificent rock and we had a lot of fun exploring it and taking photos, including some with a TB we had that wanted to visit bush areas. After getting the answers we needed (hopefully), we walked down to the waterfall which was lovely and then headed home before we pushed our luck too far.

Thanks for bringing us here, we'll definitely be back Smile

09-Oct-16

Found while up on another cache seeking drive.

Again, as we and many others say, if it wasn't for geocaching we'd never know about this place. What a magnificent rock and a beautiful waterfall below. We were a little stumped with question 1 as there is so much variety but we are hoping the CO allows some flexibility with the answer.
This was another highlight on a caching adventure. Thanks TeamThommo for bringing us here, I am amazed we are only the 10th finder this year

16-Jul-16
When my 1st placement (but not published) cache needed a new place to live. I really wanted a sandy creek bed. I friend suggested that I look up launching place rd as they come cray fishing in the area. So when I found shiprock awhile back ,I placed a note for myself, that I needed to venture up here. So I was thrilled to see another dot had appeared since the last time I looked. My husband, is not one for a lot of geocaching but he always mentions, find me a nice destination and I will be happy. So today was a day for a waterfall. I thought I knew what I was going to find, but the photos just don't do it justice. I think the more you look at it, from different angles and differences in colour .... it really is a lovely shaped rock. Geohusband usually doesn't understand earth caches (geez ...... he just gets the normal one) but he was really intrigued in this spot and even, he got out the camera and started taking photos. My boys had a ball here, just climbing it and sitting on it. We probably spent a good 45 minutes here ( as well as the near by falls). Which is surprisingly really because most people would walk to the look out and just move on but we got there just as the sun was moving to set and the different colours through the natural bush and the bouncing of light off the rock was just beautiful. Once again another lovely presented earth cache. I always feel there is so much work, effort and research go into these that the answers I ponder over. But with permission I have been given the thumbs up. Thank-you once again for an earth cache that really makes me ponder the earth, whereas, I probably would have admired the rock but I would have kept walking. Well done my friend, another lovely memory in our memory bank.

I mostly played while dad gathered the answers. We got some really nice photos here. Thanks TeamThommo for my first Earthcache.

It had been almost seven weeks since I found a cache. It would be my longest slump ever had it not been for a few events I had attended here and there. Between organizing my own event, GM commitments, work commitments and a life in general I just had not found the time to get out caching. So today, in the middle of school holidays, geojosiah and I are sitting at home, inside (because its raining) and playing some mindless computer games. Damn it, stuff the rain, lets go caching!

I had seen this one pop up and have driven past it many times since and just never had the option to drop in and grab it. I had done the nearby trad many many years ago so it was nice to return today even though there was light drizzle. Answers collected (as well as some pictures) and have been sent off to the CO (fingers crossed)!

TFTC TeamThommo!

What an incredible find Thanks for the geology lesson and for bringing me to this amazing place. Not what I was expecting to find in the middle of the bush! That's what is so good about geocaching.

Found in the company of the TallTribe and Clay (whose caching name I have forgotten). What a great spot! We would never have come here had it not been for this cache. And we learnt a bit about granite.
TFTC and for putting together all the information on the cache page!

Found it! Logging with permission. 3rd to find! Cheers! We visited here after spending time driving around Kirth Kiln Regional Park looking for a walking possibilities and caches. It's not really a place for walking as mad motor bikers seem to have taken over. Anyway we, enjoyed our visit here exploring the rock and looking at the falls. Thanks for organising the Earth Cache at this very interesting granite outcrop! Cheers and happy caching! Smile

Headed out for a motorbike ride on my favorite road and to check on my cache at Hoddles Creek. Found that this unfound ( by me ) cache on my list along the way. Nice spot for a pit stop. Noticed the sign on the roadside has gone missing and very easy to miss the entrance. Well worth the walk down to the Water falls nearby.

My carefully laid plans for today were turned upside down when I woke this morning and discovered that two new Earth Caches had been published overnight and both were more or less, between home and my destination. I ran into all the school drop off traffic and caught most of the red lights until I was north of the Princes Hwy and then it was easy driving to a spot that I know well. It was overcast and light drizzle started falling during my time there but I was able to obtain the information I needed and emailed it to the CO who replied in double quick time. Big Grin
