Enjoyed a paddle around Googong Dam this morning, taking my new kayak on its second outing.

This logbook was completely drenched, so I am providing an image to confirm the find.

Despite the weather forecast predicting showers and wind starting late morning, the water was like glass most of the morning with the wind starting to lift on the way back to the cars. Lots of fun trying to find a suitable landing spots on the islands due to the regrowth and shallow rocking areas and sunken logs. Last time with StarsAlign, we walked out to the islands as the water was so low during the draught. TFTC
The log too wet to sign so took a photo. Container is OK. Unfortunately we had run out of replacement logs. Nice if next person could take replacement log and zip bag,

SocialClimber and I went for a 'recovery' paddle today in Googong after out more serious efforts at Burrinjuck yesterday. I'd been eyeing these little islands off for a while but was much happier to go with someone else rather than a solo attempt.

A great day with all our caches found - we'll come back for the ones a little further out, with the wind increasing towards lunch it got a bit choppy and I was glad to get back to shore to recover from the recovery paddle!

A random pic from today's adventures attached.

Thanks, Champs2Monkeys.

A weekend end away with Crash and PPE saw us preparing for a Yak, tree and Goo weekend for some select targets and to escapes Sydney’s wet.
A late night Friday arrival, a good morning feed and then a 8.30am launch ( well for most of us) to first so the new Capital Paddle Molonglo River series.
From there it was a trip south east for another select target.
Clearly we hadn’t done enough paddling or it was the that maybe we didn’t want to bring the yaks down every trip so ignoring tired body parts launched again. The dam was certainly full as the spill way was going and a bit of breeze had come up with some small chop.
Cache found and completed the signing duties. TFTC

After our adventures on Molongolo River we headed down this way for some paddling on the dam. What a beautiful waterway.

#5396

The plans for a caching excursion into the nation's capital had been in the pipeline for some time. The main focus was the Capital Paddle series on the Molonglo. Met up with bella at waggy and purplepeopleater at our accommodation last night and we were keen for an early start. Having completed our paddling by mid afternoon, there was time to choose some more adventures.

After a quick snack in Queanbeyan, we explored the area around White Walls. With yaks still on the roof, we figured we had enough time for more paddling on the nearby Googong Dam. This added 4 more high terrain caches to our day's tally.

...after returning to [SS Aldi](https://coord.info/TB655ER)'s launching point we successfully recovered her missing fin; the resultant paddle here tracked much truer.

Debmex and CJD79 beat us here in their lighter single person kayaks, but not by much. It's not really a race is it? Big Grin Either way it's a brilliant day to be out on the water, in great company, finding caches.

Found with [@coybear2000](http://coord.info/PR9547H) and [@binliner](http://coord.info/PR2XFEC). We had been on a walk with GW and DC, who had told us that these caches could be accessed on foot. So we walked the temporary isthmus to GZ. Once there we quickly had CIH. Log signed and all replaced and we walked to the next one. TFTC.

25-Jul-20
Was out doing a few caches in the area with binliner and [@trodectus](http://coord.info/PR8JTE0) wanting to the island caches as the water level was low enough to allow a walk over. Walked to GZ over the "peninsula" and once there, the cache was quickly located with the log signed and returned. TFTC

Out on an island circuit with Trodectus and Coybear2000. Can't really class this as an island at present which suits me as I don't own a boat. A short approach across what is normally well underwater over to GZ for a quick find. TFTC C2M

I was at Googong a couple of days ago and spotted the chance with the low water level, for island hopping. I didn't have the time then to fulfil that dream opportunity, so returned today with Decrypter. It was an easy, enjoyable walk out to this one and the feet stayed dry. The cache guardian was in residence. Cache and log were good. TFTC Champs2Monkeys.

A major highlight of my day! I was out doing maintainence on my Queen PT and was not intending to find any caches today but as I approached no. 17, I saw something incredible: I saw a landmass connecting the main land with this island! Then I saw a landmass between this island and Longneck Island!!! I was later to find out, that there was ALSO a landmass between this island and Rabbit Island!!!! It seems that I had visited Googong on a day where the water levels were so low that there was land access to the islands - as someone who does not have my own boat (let alone a car that can withstand roofracks), today lended the best opportunity for me to access these three caches. I steadily walked across the landmasses thinking they mind be boggy, but there were completely dry and way too easy to walk on - it was as if everything was going my way today! Made my way up the hill and had a quick find at GZ. The views from here were spectacular - some photos of the view and incredible landmasses are attached. TFTC C2M! If you feel as though I haven't found this ethically please feel free to ask me to delete my log because I would totally understand why; however I hope you can appreciate how memorable and unique my experience was today.

Today's target were the caches on the old islands. What better time then now when we can dry paddle all over the place - maybe not all over - but the bits we need to visit to make a clean sweep of the remaining caches in this location.

The islands were fascinating to explore and to see the contents lying, resting, growing on the old lake floor in some locations. It was clear that the recent rains had assisted to raise water levels as the large mud cracks were still visible under the clear crisp waters. There were plenty of flowering plants and lots of noisy insects and birds around today. While there was plenty of large animal poo around none were the animals themselves were sighted - maybe around lunch time they are all resting.

Great to see the eastern side of the lake that we had walked around last Thursday during a 6 hour adventure. The return walk from the car was over 2 hours for 4.38kms for just a total ascent/descent of 110m.

Quick and easy find at GZ. TFTC Champs2Monkeys.

Out at Googong today with my kayak to get some of the caches that are harder to access. After paddling to the island, it was a quick find after a short walk. Thanks Tankengine.

21-Apr-19
Our second cache on Googong Dam as we landed on C+2M Island. Thought the edge was a lot firmer than it was but the sucky mud produced the second thong malfunction of the expedition. This meant we were both doing a one legged, high stepping walk so as not to put any pressure on the toe part.... and daydreaming about an ammo can with thongs for swaps.

Anyway two thong blowouts are no deterrent when you're off to look for a cache. We didn't find it immediately because it appears things have changed since the cache was placed but the co-ordinates were spot on so that's all that matters. TFTC Champs2Monkeys.

Out for a quick paddle at the end of the day. This cache completes my third D/T loop! More walking and weed bashing with the lake level as low as it is currently. TFTC!

Finalf29 and I spent the day in the Googong and what an enjoyable day it was. We paddled, walked (with a bit of huffing and puffing), met a lovely geocaching family Team737 and cached most of the Queen series with them... by the end of the day we were knackered, but still had a brilliant time doing it. Thanks to all the cache owners and thanks to Finalf29 and Team737 for wonderful company.

The water was like a mirror... so flat and clear... such a beautiful morning for a paddle. Thanks

We were very fortunate in that having met GoingPlaces2 on arriving at the campground for the Clearwaters Mega yesterday, they very kindly offered to lend us their canoe so that we could come and search for the caches on this beautiful lake, and so first thing this morning we set off together to the boat ramp where our adventures began. This was the second cache we searched for, which was soon located once at Ground Zero. We signed the log book and then replaced as found. Thanks so much for the cache and a favourite point awarded for a great fun cache to get to. Greetings from Zimbabwe

It was time for Big Blue to float again! The water was a bit warmer than my last sail (returned 19 Jan) and the waves were a bit smaller, 12 mm rather than 12 m. A fabulous day on the water. We should do this more often Wink.

We continued our adventure over to this island. Loki should have worn long pants. Her legs are rather scratched up from the thistles, blackberries, and assorted other weeds. This was a quick find in a light rain. Thanks C2M

While Tankengine and I were out and about collecting other caches and doing some CO maintenance, he had already been here previously and picked this cache up sometime ago, but as I hadn't he was being very thoughtful and let me grab this cache too.

TE told me the story of his cache that had been here prior to this one. He had hung it on one of the trees closest the shoreline and you could practically reach it from the water. Now however that tree is so much further and high from the water. Hard to believe there has been that much of a drop in the water level.

The now, the silt lined banks are tricky to get in and out of your kayak, but we managed without any major incident to do that and find teh cache without issues either. Tftc C2Ms!!!

The hunt was on today for those caches on islands in the Googong Dam area. We set off at a reasonably early start, hoping to achieve our goal before the wind got too much.
The canoe was launched from the boat ramp and the paddle started with little wind, so the going was fairly easy. We successfully found the three caches on our list and each one only involved a short walk on each island. For us this was a successful expedition, as we are really only new to this paddling activity.
Thankfully we had started early, as the wind was getting stronger and we were heading into it by the time we returned. That was harder paddling.
Many thanks to Champs2Monkeys for this cache placement and we were happy that we accepted the challenge of this activity.
Favourite point given for the fun cache.

A paddle on Googong dam was not originally in my plans for this week, but I am glad it ended up happening Smile
Came out here today for another cache, that was published 4 days earlier and had still not been found ... was really surprised to be first, after I had procrastinated for three days before coming out here ... I arrived at the boat ramp at about 1pm, dragged my kayak "all the way down there" to the water (gee - the tide is out), paddled over to the other side and found that one, had a little bit of fun taking selfies, then off to get the other 2 caches on islands ... and decided that yes, it shouldn't be too hard to also paddle down and get the other cache further down, not on an island, while I was on the water ... so I paddled down (into the wind, and some spots of rain but not too difficult a paddle) and found that one, in the drizzle, and took a few photos, drifted part way back in the wind (and a bit of drizzle) while I ate some food, noticed I had drifted near a gorge so I paddled in and had a quick look, paddled over and parked my kayak on the rocks (the rest of the island was surrounded by sticky mud) at the big island and found that cache, and had a bit of an explore, got a wet bum launching again, from the rocks, in the wind and choppy water (doesn't take a very big wave to break over the side of a sit on top kayak - lol), paddled over and found the other island cache, then had a bit of an explore ... realised how late it was getting and dashed back to the boat ramp, packed up, shoved my kayak back on the car, and just made it out the gate before lock up time (actually 15 minutes before the advertised closing time of 6pm, but the ranger was there talking to someone and he shut the gate behind me after I drove out)
Quite a fun little adventure, exploring some interesting places, getting some exercise, having fun out in the fresh air/nature looking at views, rocks, plants, flowers, etc, taking lots of photos ... just what I needed Smile
... and the only problem with having found the other island caches as well ... i will have to find another excuse to come back out for another paddle and explore - lol
I then stopped and found a couple drive by caches on the way back to CBR, got changed into dry clothing beside the car in the dark at the second one, and headed off to an Autistic Women's Group meeting in Woden - lol
TFTC - Managed to find a spot with a couple of large flat rocks to stand on to disembark (most of the shoreline was goopy squidgy mud) and made a nice quick find, which was good because I got a wet bum getting back in my boat at the previous island, and my jumper was a bit wet from lying the bottom of the kayak because I had got warm earlier, and taken it off ... but there was now a "Lazy wind" (so lazy it goes right through you) which made it a bit colder... but I explored the area 4 a bit anyway... would have been longer but I realised it was getting close to the curfew. Pity, because I was having fun exploring the islands ... and this Island is considerably larger than last time I was out near here... lol (last time I was here I only had time to do one island cache, in a hurry, before I paddled back to attend the nearby event that I had come out here for)

With GreyHams we ventured out toward goofing this morning, a targeted cache out on the islands would see me complete my DT grid and I was quite keen to fill that last spot but always like to head out for a paddle as well. Stopped off first to finish a multi that we had started collecting the information but needed to be completed, a puzzle that had 2 years of unlove and another puzzle that could do with a find as well.

The dam levels are very low, although I never have seen them high its clear where the water has been and its no where near that. Just means we had to walk the kayaks down the ramp a bit further but nothing so far from our entry point. All ready to set off, a nice sunny day with a slight head wind into our direction but calm enough. A little tricky to get in with the mud and slope but GreyHams was all over it and managed a memorable entry, all poise... guffaw, chuckle!

Still, not to let it get in the way soldier on he did, despite the broken now one sided paddle he channeled his inner Pocahontas and bravely paddled onward, into the head wind and towards our targeted cache of the day, certainly not easy going. The low water levels had us some distance away from the cache and exiting into sinking gloopy mud, it was something over the three island caches we had to be aware of, it looked good until feet down and meant searching the best location to get out of the kayaks.

All three caches were located easily just required longer walks to get to once out on the islands, and all in good condition. The wind settled soon after and ended up being a lovely day out on the water and an enjoyable day, of course! Thanks for the cache Champs2Monkeys, a memorable day... there are just some things you can not un see, chuckle!

Today, was a day where Aquilus1 and I came out here to get the hides ON Googong (or Goofing for auto correct software). Before we started that we cleaned up a few leftover caches, including this one, before heading out onto the water. Of course, hilarity ensued with me needing to learn a better kayak entry technique.... and I now owe Aquilus1 a paddle.

Not to be deterred, I continued on... Pocahontas style with a one ended paddle, if I knew the lyrics of the songs I would have been belting them out.

This cache was a loooong way from the shore that we landed on. The low water level let this island, iceberg style, to show its true potential size if only the dam wall had been 3m lower.

Anyway, at the end of the day we had all caches found, one placed Wink, and safely back at home with my blanket, which didnt get wet luckily enough due to last minute change of plans.

Geobuddy StangeTrousers had been talking about Googong and how much fun it is. Today was the day to check it out. Fun factor - 10. StrangeTrousers mentioned whilst we were island hopping that when he was here previously the water was a lot higher. On the way back you could see there was a huge difference from one of the boat launching areas up the top of a hill to where we launched off on todays journey. This island had a very different feel to the others. A lot more sand. It is was not so windy I would have loaded the car battery that was dumped on the island into my kayak and taken it back to be disposed of properly.

Thank you Champs2Monkeys for putting this one out here. Loved island hopping to it.

Found with TikvaNZ and AngelG27. When we set out from the boat ramp, the waters were calm and the breeze was very light and often there was no breeze at all. By the time we pulled back in an hour later the breeze was a constant wind from the south, which would have been impossible for me to paddle into (as I was using an inflatable kayak), but perfect for paddling back to shore. In fact I think I could have just sat back and let the wind blow me home.

Very happy to fill another gap in the calendar and another gap in the D/T grid. Second Saturday in a row that I've managed that!

Thx Champs + 2 Monkeys! Probably see you at the CITO event in April.

What an exciting morning! Fox in Jox offered to lend myself and TikvaNZ a hobie that he has access to, so we (as well as ZQX) headed out early to Googong Dam with the hobie and an inflatable kayak in tow. Fox helped us set up the hobie then headed off on a run. Tikva and I suited ourselves up and headed off to the three islands in the middle of the dam to collect the three caches. We spent about an hour pedalling around in near perfect conditions, with the wind just picking up as we parked the hobie back at the boat ramp. We collected all three, while ZQX only had two to collect.

This was the first cache to be found, and the prize that ZQX and I were after. Tikva and I steered a pretty crooked passage to the island, but we had it mostly sorted by the time we arrived so we were able to "park" at a suitably shallow spot and wade onto the island. ZQX already had it found when we arrived, so a quick inspection of the GZ and cache was had before we headed off to the next one.

Thanks C2M for a well thought through DT cache (fills a neat hole in my grid) - and to Fox, ZQX and Tikva for a fun and rewarding morning. A fav from me!

An early morning mini adventure on Googong Dam with ZQX and AngelG27, thanks to Fox in Jox for his provision of a Hobie. We chose the right time. The journey out to the islands was calm but just as we returned a tail breeze sprung up. An hour later and the mission would have been a lot harder. This was the first of the three island caches we visited. ZQX beat us to this island and had found and signed the cache by the time we got there. After sighting the cache and log we continued on to the next island. It was such a glorious morning to be on the lake and reminded me of past kayaking adventures. (Ruing not bringing my kayak across from NZ). TFTC.

I'm sure I've already been to this island for a previous geo, tankengines, so initially I thought another island I had not seen had popped up miraculously like a volcano. No it had not☺ thanks for bringing me out here again with 3 others for a great day out. The inflatable was leaking so duct tape in the car saved the day till a proper fix can be made. Easy find. Yesterday was LBG. Today Googong Dam. A solo effort today...no partner or geohound. Down to the boat ramp with the borrowed 2 man hobie (the one with the foot pedals). I must say...it weighs a bit getting it on and off the car. Anyway, the pedals are great. With a paddle as well, it was a real pedal, paddle, battle (sorry Dr Seuss). Quick trip to island and grab. Very quiet here. Nice. TFTC Champs2Monkeys

The most difficult part about this cache was the pair of kayak-fishing muggles nearby, who luckily happened to be obscured by the hiding place. Headed straight back to shore after finding this one and got back just in time for the wind to blow up and the rain to start falling. Great timing, as usual Big Grin. TFTC.

#1483 1 of 1 today.
I felt like a paddle today. The weather hasn't been all that paddle-friendly of late, but it was quite nice today with only light breezes. The fact this one appeared very soon after my previous visit to the nearby islands didn't bother me too much as I enjoyed the last paddle out here. I actually visited this very small island last time but wasn't looking for caches at the time. A quick find once there. Thanks for the cache and the visit to your domain.

Reperio at 0715.

I was on my way down to Victoria this weekend, I decided to make a small detour to the ACT for a couple of chosen caches. I arrived at the gates to find them locked (which was expected), but not too long after, a bloke came by to open the gates, and although it was before the official posted opening times, he asked what I was doing, saw the kayak and said that I should be right if I want to go ahead. With a bit of wind around, the water was quite choppy, but fortunately it was only a short paddle, so I was soon at GZ signing the cache. With it being so early still, I decided to stop off and grab a couple of other nearby caches. Enjoyed the paddle.

Choo ooo *FTF* on a lovely sunny afternoon! I did have a cache on this island along with the other two... However it was removed... (Was cable tied to tree). Also, I heard the Rangers were not overly happy with caches on these islands... Although it seems to be OK for now... For those reasons I decided not to replace this one. But nice to see one here again. Enjoyed the paddle, except for the headwind on the way back... Smile Thanks C+2M.
