I am regretfully archiving this cache since there's been no response from nor action by the cache owner within the time frame requested in the last reviewer note.

21-Sep-20
This area around this cache has been felled chipped and replanted with small native trees. The council ask people not to wonder off the main track into the new plants. Unless the CO can confirm otherwise I believe this cache has probably gone and should be archived to avoid any environmental damage.

Hi kiwiowl

This cache was brought to my attention by the Needs Archived log. I see there have been a few DNF logs and no Cache Owner maintenance, and the cache appears to be a bit under the weather. May I ask you (the cache owner) confirm this cache remains in place and available to be found? Please **post an owner maintenance log** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and have checked up on the cache.

Just a bit of a nudge at this stage, I'll check back in 30 days or so to see if there have been any updates.

If there are no Cache Owner updates within that timeframe, then the next step is for the cache to be archived.

Regards
TheCoddiwompler

Headed up to Te Mata to look for 10 caches. Basically did the whole of the red track with a few side tracks. Found 6 and DNF 4. Total of two and a half hours. Some stunning views. This whole area has been felled and replanted with natives. Pretty certain the cache will have gone. Thanks

What better way to spend a day in the sunny HB than wandering to the Peak and finding a few caches along the way. Thks. What a great spot

06-Feb-20
Found this one last week but did not have a pen. Thought we would come an get it signed before the logging starts.
Note to CO this area is about to be logged, so cache may need to be removed for a while.

This is definitely an impressive grove of Redwoods. It was very hot today and they made the walk to GZ worthwhile as well as proving a cool place to rest.
A quick scramble and the cache was in hand. Thanks kiwiowl.

#11,527. A good hike in Havelock North. Came across a number of other walkers on the tracks, but fortunately GZ itself was all quiet at the time of the visit. Found after a short search. Part of the additional hints did not apply any more. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Thanks for the placement, and for bringing us to this site, and …

Find #3131. On this, my final day of a long weekend holiday in Hawkes Bay, I decided I should do as the locals do and walk up Te Mata Peak instead of driving (as I did yesterday). So with an early 7am start, I was soon on the Red trail.
The tree that was across the path has been reduced to a long stump but still good to hide the cache with its clever disguise. SL TFTC
Love the redwoods, reminding me of the Rotorua redwood forest.

I found this cache together with my partner Pityulino during our holiday in New Zealand. On this day we hiked on the red track of the Ta Mata Peak and were also searching for geocaches on our way. We found a total of 5 caches during the day. This one was the second of them. We found the cache easily and in good condition. TFTC!

23-Dec-17
Went a bit further than needed and got all scratched up but Gabby used common sense and we came up with the cache

07-Dec-17
I found this cache along with a small group of secondary school students (SJCgeocamp) who were finding Geocaches as part of their camp week. They visited Huka falls, Taupo, Napier, Hastings and Te Mata Peak over four days. We went swimming hiking, and biking and found a wide range of geocaches ranging from traditionals, puzzles, Earthcaches, gadget caches, and the boys favorites-night caches. My hope is that because of their experience they decide to continue Geocaching as a hobby in the future. Thank you to all the CO’s who placed and maintained all the geocaches we found and for bringing us to so many interesting spots.

After finding the cache and making our way into the redwoods we found evidence this area had been recently used as a wedding venue. Very cool.

Today was the day for some of the Te Mata Peak caches to be signed off. Stopped off at the lower carpark to sign off only a couple caches but all cachers know you just leave one that is close by so we just had to do this one.

Cheers for the cache.

Thanks for the good hint which made for a quick find and more time to enjoy the company of the redwoods. The log sheet is surprisingly dry for a forest cache.

23-Jul-16
Mum, Dad, 12YO and 5YO decided to go for a bit of a hike around The Peak; and noticed a number of "new" caches since their last adventure up Te Mata (which was quite a while ago).
Dad and 12YO raced to find the cache, and 12YO over-looked it in his haste to get there first!
Log signed and cache replaced before any muggles passed us on the busy track.

We had a great morning walking on three different tracks around and up Te Mata Peak. Managed to bag four caches along the way. Unfortunately by the time I arrived at this one I appeared to have lost my pen, so was unable to write on it. However, I took a couple of photos of the cache and of the landmark where it is found. Kiwiowl please message me if you would like to see these - I will then visit my son and ask him to attach these to my log - I can be a little computer illiterate at times! Anyway, thanks for the cache which is situated in a lovely area Smile

This is our second cache on our list today on our wander around the peak, we (Angel, Master 12 , master 16 and geodog) decide to take the Giant Circuit a track we havent done yet. After successfully getting Manipulation (Master 12 success) we headed to the Redwoods. Two for Master 12 and zero for the rest of us. Now onto our third on for the day. Can Master 12 have a third success? Lets go listen for some frogs... TFTC

Redwoods is always a special place to visit. Favourite past time here is building huts and having teddy bears picnics as a kid. TFTC in a great location. We recommend a just before dusk wander, no one about and so many birds singing.

08-Oct-15
FTF! The Redwoods is an amazing place and we love coming here to play and explore. The kids always make bridges and build huts and can play in here for hours on end. Today was the last Friday of the school holidays so we decided to head in to find some caches and have some fun. The cache was quickly located on our way in thanks to accurate coordinates and an easy hint. Mr 8, Miss 8, Mr 5 and the dog had a fabulous time playing in the 'Giant's Grotto' but we were very surprised that we were the only ones here (apart from the occasional runner). Thanks for bringing us here again!
