Logs
Heading south with rattll, en route to GeoToroa at Dunedin. Today, started at Paparoa Point, north of Kaikoura, aiming for... somewhere in North Canterbury, tbc. Our sole confirmed target for the day is GCEB9, at Glentui. The oldest letterbox hybrid in NZ, and coincidentally a Jasmer spot that we both need. Everything else collected today is a bonus, so we're stopping as the whim takes us.Paused to search for this one, but no joy. Not sure where the hide is supposed to be, but it looks like a vehicle has left the road and come through here, before skidding back on. Road markers broken off, skidding marks on the grass.
I can juuuust make out the port hills from here so it is indeed a home view!Bit of rust soup action inside the cache. Turning into a sign it where you can deal. Could do with a new log soon.
I very much love getting to visit the South Island. Until recently it wasn't something I got to do very often, but in the last year I've managed a series of mini-trips for geocaching, and here we are at the start of 2024 with another one. Just like my first SI trip in 2023, I've come to Christchurch to target a few specific caches to help with my Jasmer Grid, and qualification for a few challenges I'm currently working on.This is Day 2, and it's raining. Not major deluge-type stuff, but just a bit heavier than a fine drizzle. The kind of rain that gets into everything and can generally make for a miserable time caching even if you have wet weather gear. So I had a cruisy morning catching up with yesterday's logging before deciding that I really had to get out if I wanted to get any caches today. So I set forth, via a Couplands Bakery because, well this is the South Island right?Having failed to find GCE92 yesterday, I had decided to target the only other July 2001 cache available to me, so headed over to Glentui Bush to make the find. With the rain still falling, I figured I'd still be able to head back to Chch whilst stopping to find a few park 'n' grabs, and so I pulled over for this one.A quick find here today. The container has not managed to keep all the rain out so the log was wet. The paper was fine because it's waterproof, but the clip holding it is very rusty. I was to add my name to the logbook and then replace everything as found before heading back to the car again. Thanks for setting this one up.
After a big walk up and around the Mt Richardson / Blowhard track loop, I managed to find a few more caches on my way home. Found this one after a brief search. Log was damp but I was able to make my mark. TFTC, Biggles.
Out this way again, going for a bit of an exploratory drive. I've been both ends of the road, but never driven right through it. Stopped here to grab the cache, unfortunately the log was too wet to sign and my caching kits back in the city... Sorry If I remember, next time I'm heading to my parents, I'll bring some paper and that out.
TFTC TheWanglers, the cache was found however not in great order. Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 1 find(s) of 1 today, making this find #4215

I have it in my head I've looked for this one before but perhaps not. Found today.
Time to visit Oxford and its environs locating and signing off caches.
Had to walk back to this one.
Cheers for the cache.

Third cache for this birthday trip. Removed mushy wet paper log. Left all weather log. Tftc we can see our home from here too!
Tftc, I've done a little maintenance. The spot really wasn't visible, but after searching as though it would be very hidden, we found it.
Visiting from Nelson for a few days of caching with Karmzjay. Today was a cruise around the wider Oxford-Ashley area.
Quick find here. Good view of the plains, but cloud obscured the hills.

Wet log , couldn't really write my name but dried the paper as much as possible. the original log is mush.
Great views today. Port hills in the distance.

Log is soggy can see the port hills even though it is a cloudy day. Nice obvious cache for no hints
The log book was saturated. Sadly didn't have my repair kit with me. Wrote on a receipt. Thanks TheWanglers for creating this hide. It was find 9757 for me.

own from Northland for a one week trip to Christchurch to pick up some solved puzzles, challenges, unusual cache types, Jasmer grid fillers, as well as a few others in passing.
Detoured via here on our way to Glen Tui. A nice quick find, but the log book was too wet to sign. TFTC

A great view today and a quick find. The cache container was full of water and the log is completely soggy. I didn't have a spare on me so it will need a maintenance check. Thanks TheWanglers.
Our first geocache!!! Colecole26 and I took a while to find it as we are new to this but what a treat. TFTC
Together with TEMBO! I had a really interesting geocaching-trip today. We could find some geocaches, met some locals and had a great talk to them.
Concerning this geocache I want to say thanks because we had much fun in searching and finding this geocache! The cache made our trip even more interesting!

It was promising to be a nice crispy winter's day, so I decided to go out a bit to explore. This one took longer than it should have! TFTC!!
Great view, unfortunately, the cache container was full of water, drained and log partially dried; TFTC
A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 4 Wakari to Ashley Gorge 54 caches found including 1 of the targets. I had passed this so after checking in at the nearby camping ground I headed off to grab a few more. I had a view of your home area but not mine. Thank you for the placement.

Definately a lovely view even though a bit misty. Signed log as Girl Power which is made up of Busy Paws, Coconuts3, Jude_E and lyttelton witch. Thanks for the cache TheWanglers
Can totally agree with the spot, a wee bit of mist today. Log signed Girl power. THTC
Cache took a few moments to find by Girl Power team of Busy Paws, Coconuts3, Jude_E and lytteltonwitch. Great views here.
We were in Christchurch for a few days to help one of my sisters celebrate a significant birthday. With the celebrations over we were heading for home with the plan of finding a few caches along the way.
Neither of us have been along this road before, so it was great to be able to have a bit of time to explore the area courtesy of the cache owners who have placed caches that enable us to stop and have a look around.
There was a chook across the road nutting off at us or maybe it was just excited to see some more geocachers stopping near its turf.
Great views from here, I was pleased to have a reason to stop.
Gk found this one and soon had signed the log and returned it as he had found it.
Thank you for placing the cache and of course thank you for the smilie.

A quick grab on the way to Glentui, another day here where we could see the Port Hills. Cheers
Heading home after an awesome 3 days hiking the mt Thomas tracks staying at bobs biv and pinchgut hut would be rude not to grab a few p&g's after all that walking.
Nearly flagged this one as I missed the parking but did a uturn and came back cache was quickly found tftc

Quick easy find on our way home from lunch in Oxford and a run around at the Ashley Gorge reserve. A nice spot for a photo! Thanks for placing and maintaining the cache.
Jess.daphne and I decided to go on another caching mission in order to get 50 caches to get the final Hidden Creature souvenir. I also wanted to take my new car on her maiden caching mission. We all had a fantastic day in the sunshine and howling wind, getting dusty and windswept; team Jeje riding in Gigi.
We had driven through most of the rain by the time we got here. A quick find at GZ. TFTC.

Found today with injeanious, we got around 50 caches today in order to find all of the hidden creatures. We signed the logs as JeJe to save time and space. Tftc!
We are heading over to attend the CITO tomorrow at Woodend and we havent been this way since we were on the Tinker trail in Jan 2015 so there are some more caches to clean up this way. A nice quick PnG - Thanks for the replacement log kotukuSI. I guess you gotta be taller than me to see your Home View. Thanks for placing the cache and adding to our smilies
Rocking around N Canty - having a great time finding a few caches.
This cache had, sadly, gained some water - the log was sodden & not redeemable. I have replaced it with a sheet of paper in a new plastic bag, so all is good to go.
Unfortunately the view was affexted by cloud today - could see a few close hills but not the Port Hills.

Found but the log is very wet so unable to sign log. On our tour of New zealand south island.
#15187. Another cache that took a bit of persistence. Nice viewpoint. TFTC.
Found with StreetWalker on a jaunt to Oxford, Ashley Gorge and Glentui, mopping up a few caches in the area.
This was another tough find as it took several minutes for both GPSrs to settle down, initially they were pointing about 20m down a bank where a micro would unlikely be hidden. We searched the most likely object without luck and were thinking that this would be another DNF, when SW found it a little way away in the grass. Replaced it where we thought it should be, with several covering rocks to keep it in place. TFTC.

Visiting from Brisbane with Slow Puncture for the Oamaru Geofest, and we're seeing all the wonderful sights the South Island has to offer as we travel along. Day 5: An early start as we ventured out of Christchurch in a big loop hunting challenges, solved GeoArt, and older caches. We were stunned by the beautiful views of the Alps across the farmland of Canterbury Plains.
Thanks for the hunt **TheWanglers**, this find makes #4398. Discover our TB

Tuesday. Slow Puncture has teamed up with Orange Crew to make a Moreton Bay assault on the Oamaru Geofest. Day Five saw us take a large loop out from Christchurch, West towards the snow-capped mountains, before returning and doing some urban caching within Christchurch itself.
This was the 36th of 71 caches found on today's trip.
Thanks ***TheWanglers***, for showing us this place.

20 Geocaches in One Day. My biggest day caching ever. I wanted a good leg-stretch so I climbed Mt Thomas up the summit track and came down the Wooded Gully track, finding pretty much every cache along the way. Cool breeze. Nice views from the top through patchy cloud. Lovely bush on the way down. Found a few more on the drive home to make up 20. Cheers to every cache owner for placing and maintaining these.

A beautiful day, and a baby that needed to be sleeping, so I decided to head off for a drive to try get her off to sleep, and find some caches too. Multi tasking!! - Leaving the house is easier to get her to sleep - either by walking with her or driving, so perfect excuse to give hubby for all my caching now! Haha!
Managed to get 17 in the end - not too bad! Most were pretty easy too! Plus baby had 2 sleeps! A 45 min one, and then slept the whole way home from the last cache, and is still sleeping as I'm doing the logging! Whooo!
Nice n quick here too - though some pretty dodgy parking here!
TFTC!!

We pulled over here on our way home from a picnic at Ashley Gorge to show junior cacher the beehives. I noticed this cache on the map very close by so had to duck over and grab a smiley. Tftc!
Mrs TG handed in her thesis last week; and she's taking it easy for the next few weeks before she starts her Post Doc......so 'we' decided on a 'mental health day'....and after dropping the kids at school headed out to Glentui for a loop walk up Mt Richardson - up via the Mt Richardson track (1hr 28min to the summit trig) and then back down via the Blowhard track and the Bypass track (back to the car; total time 3hr 45min). Mild but got hot walking up, very cold and windy along the tops, warmed up coming back down again. 7 caches along the way.
After completing our walk up Mt Richardson we had a hankering for a pie so drove out to Oxford to fill the gap - rude not to stop at this cache as we were passing by. Nice spot. After Oxford we looped home via the gorge and Old Westcoast road. Home in time to rescue Mrs TGs folks from the kids.
