Due to fire danger all the hiking tracks around Nelson were closed, so D4nielB and me looked for alternatives and found Boulder Bank. It was a good choice to hike here from north to the far south and back. Interesting place and many caches around - although we didn't find the last two caches at the south end.
We accidentally found this cache while looking for "Boulder Post" (which we didn't find).
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany.

Today Jul1ane and me wanted to go hiking somewhere around Nelson. Since most tracks are closed due to fire or extreme fire risk, we stumbled across the Boulder Bank. Looked interesting, had a few caches on it, so we decided to hike there. We parked our car at the north end and made our way to the south tip and back, of course while searching for caches.
We found this container while searching for "Boulder Post". What we read from the logs, the container for this cache was transported way away from it's original container and then deposited at "Boulder Rock" by a cacher, who found it. Since it's the logbook of this cache we signed, we also log this cache online.

Correct. this cache is further down next to the cache 'Boulder Post (Nelson/Marlborough)' by bumandworker. A good new logbook has been put in place. Find #451
Found this as per a previous log after the storm moved it. Now 690 ft away, near no dog sign. Thank-you DOCMotueka for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Out caching with Will of the Wisp on our “Round the World in 80 Days” trip to celebrate retirement. Signing logs with our names or initials depending on space. Greetings from England, TFTC.
Cache has been affected by Cyclone Fehi on 1st Feb. 2018. Will relocate and update asap.

Hi, I have found this cach in Kinzett terrace after big Nelson storm on 1th of February and then hid cach to another place few metres further - near by sign no dogs - seen on photo.
Thank you for cach and for that cool possibility to enjoy another way of geocaching - finding where the cach is from etc.

Wow we though that will be difficult but by luck I spotted something of mamkund build, bingo, DOC thank you for placing the cache
Its Nelson Boulder Bank on the radar today with low tide at 1pm. Have done the far end by boat a few weeks ago, but these feet were made for walking - so lets go!!
Tried finding this one on the way out. With another search, and the sun at a different angle I finally snagged and tagged this one.
Cheers

Out for a drive to Atawhai today to collect a few smilies.
I had time for a nice walk and the rain showers thankfully stayed in the hills.
My first one of three to turn the Boulder bank back into smilies.

SJT_NZ had been told that if moving to NSN we had to do the Boulder Bank walk, I'd scoped it out earlier in the week and had pitched an option for kayak variation but as the tides weren't in our favour and it was a lovely still day walking it was. With some nicely spaced caches how bad could it be. A wee search for this one but eventually identified which rock it was hidden under in a pretty impressive structure.
Found with TregearP on a walk out to the end of the Boulder Bank and back.
A quick find and all in good condition. Thanks for the cache.

Spotted a cache on the bolderbank I didn't have a smiley on and such a nice day today so went for a walk
I came in to Nelson to attend an event, convenient as I am also working on a calendar project, trying to get my finds to four per day. And since I am here, did a bit of cache as well. Was invited to go boating and grab some outlier caches. Thanks, Bullertrout! We were going to get a cache on the boulder bank, but we had motor problems so abandoned it rather than risk being stranded. However it did mean that I spotted this, so came here on the way home to grab it.
Passed an interesting driftwood sculpture, will post a photo of it shortly.

I ran past here on my way out. It was pretty dark at 6.15 am when I left the car and I decided to save this one till I was on the way back. I jogged and ran to the other end of the boulder bank. What lovely morning!
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

Nice little walk out to this one. Low tide so loads of tiny crabs on the lagoon mud. Rain kept off for us here this afternoon. Tftc
23/03/17 - Sweet spot, I often see these and wonder who builds them....and for what reason, sun was on its way down and looked very picturesque tftc
Cache replaced 8/3/17. No sign of previous cache. It looks like the previous cache has been removed or somehow washed away by a storm or weather event. New cache is a plastic container with log / pencil and one or two swapables, with a reasonable size rock on top. Happy geocaching.
Despair ! The first cache we tried on the way out and looked again on the way back but no luck for us today. Felt like it could be anywhere.Maybe read a few logs and try again another time. Thanks anyway
By the time Andy caught up with me, I had found, signed and replaced the cache. All he had to do was take his photo. He handed me the car keys and I took off at a fast walk/run to the car and just made it as the heavens opened. Andy jumped in not far behind me and we started heading home through a torrential downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning. Glad we made it back dry.
What a beautiful spot. We could have stayed here in the sun all afternoon! We took a sticker to add to our journal of our amazing NZ trip. Thanks DOC for all you do and for this cache!
Easy find after work - we were nearby on Sunday but the grandkids were getting a bit tired so didn't try to walk them along the bank and given that it is DOCs National Geocaching Challenge week we thought it a good reason to find the two Doc caches in the area tftc
Found on trip from Australia to NZ with family.

Was pick up rubbish on the Boulder Bank with friends and found it by mistake, but we hadn't found it before so got to add another find to our list. The container was a little broken but still holds everything.
A lovely morning for a wee stroll along the Boulder Bank - well not all the way along; not enough time for that today.
Thanks for the Cache and good on ya DoC for embracing geocaching.

Finally a break in the rain and a chance to get out for a short walk. But out here it was still a bit damp and threatening to soak us at any second. How wet could we get in 465m? Not too bad as the worst of it held off so a nice walk in a great Nelson location. The car park was like grand central station when we got back to the car. Lots of tourists checking out the iconic Nelson landmark.
Thanks DOCMotueka for the cache.

My sister got to this one first, easy, while I was tangled in the driftwood. TFTC!
It was a delightful evening for a boulder bank walk so this was our first find.TFTC
Today is (yet again) a day to head over the hill with mrs capperz, nightowl19 and Tally the dog for a combined caching and shopping trip. No guesses which part of that equation was my choice for the day! I seem to have been on 49xx caches for a while and could sense a few over 20 would get the 5K sized monkey off my back. So I plotted a few solved puzzles, contacted some CO's for some pointers, thanks guys, and a few more out Brightwater way where Tally and I can enjoy a decent Dad and dog waking session. Mission was accomplished just out of Wakefield, not really one for symbolic caches for landmarks and a nice day was enjoyed. Luckily the threatened rain never came until I'd got the penultimate cache of the day so there was no need (desire) to continue along the Spooners road and grab any of those. Came back via Wai-iti Road and popped out in the top of St Arnaud for a quick coffee and puzzle cache before heading along cache highway SH-63 and home. Thanks to all those COs who have helped me reach this wonderful amount, still remember no 1 so clearly. . . . . . . 10 years ago!
First up here and gave the dog a walk along the boulder bank. Nice hide at the back of the manmade driftwood structure. Sea flat-calm today.

Wandered down to this one after visiting a couple of caches at the Glenduan End of the Boulder Bank. What used to be a driftwood teepee has become a lean-to after the recent equinoctial gales. Thanks for the cache DOC!
Was walking along the bolder bank havering just been at the poo factory my friend actually found this by accident

Nice afternoon for the short wander along to here. In hindsight we should've brought a picnic lunch and enjoyed the view from here. Enjoying these caches thanks DOCMotueka. TFTC #7483
Not my first time on the Boulder Bank but a pleasure to return all the same. Easy find at GZ. Thanks DOCMotueka!!
Great spot for a cache. Enjoyed the walk. It's amazing how people don't take notice of signs. Saw people walking 3 dogs not on a lead. Sometimes the dogs would have been 20-30 meters ahead of them
Back to a familiar area that we have walked a few times, mainly for caches. 500m was fine in the shoes Mrs SoBad had on although further would have been more of a challenge. Poor prep had her at the first of the new DOC caches before she thought about footwear, but she correctly decided she would be fine for this distance. it was lovely on the boulder bank today with a blue, blue sea and sky.
Thanks and we look forward to finding more in the DOC series over the Spring and Summer.

Easy find. Thanks DOC Motueka. We found the description of the formation of the Boulder Bank very informative and also the history and culture associated with it.
Beautiful area very relaxing
Wasn't long before we found the cache and signed the log

What a cool place this would be to just hang out and watch the world go by --- until the wind comes up that is. The breeze was pretty fresh out here this afternoon so I didn't linger. How cool to be allowed to hide caches as part of your job. - - - Hope it's within your job description to sign logs as well!!! TFTC .
A windy day today so a good time to blow away some cobwebs with a short walk along the boulder bank to this cache. No problems here. Found cache in the first place I checked. TFTC, Biggles.
StreetWalker and I had walked the length of the Boulder Bank earlier in the year after being dropped off at the Nelson end by the ferry, a most interesting walk but not one I'd care to repeat any time soon! Pleased to see that we needed to walk just 500m or so and that there was a path of sorts for most of that distance as the stones are not easy or comfortable to walk on.
StreetWalker had already found the cache by the time I tardily got to GZ, so all I needed to so was sign the log book. Pretty breezy out here today.
The first DOC hide we have found, and appreciate the effort being put into hiding these caches. Looking forward to finding more. TFTC.

Nice out there around midday, with hardly any wind at all. Looked under a few rocks before we found the right one. Good one, thanks.
#10161. A good place for a cache. A few months ago we walked the boulder bank (one way) from the cut to Boulder Bank Rd. We were pleased this new cache wasn't too far from the car park, and most of the walk there and back was easy going. TFTC.
Stunning mid morning stroll to this....box easily found.
Is that structure certified ??
Nice one, and thanks DOCMot for thye cache

The wind has been picking up badly in the afternoons lately so it had to be a morning walk. The sun was (still) out and with just a light breeze it was a perfect. We've "done" the Boulder Bank before but it was good to be back. Thank you DOCMotueka for creating the reason to be here once more.
We decided last night we would wander along here this morning, and bring No2 grandson with us since he had never been to the Boulder Bank and was with us when we found two DOCGreymouth caches, Reefton Water Race Walk and Colls Dam. Fortunately the wind hadn't got too strong so it was an enjoyable wander. Last time along here there was a few of these structures scattered over some distance but I'm not sure how many remain. Thank you DOCMotueka for placing this cache.
Yay a FTF at 5.42 pm. Today the caching gods smiled as this new cache was published right when I had a caching trip planned after work taking me to the two other DOC caches. A lovely albeit slightly windy walk was enjoyed to the feature and a short search revealed the cache and a nice clean log. Thanks to DOC Mot for the cache and hide.
