Sundial in Apollo Park in Kearney, Nebraska. Don't know any history behind it, but it's been here since I can remember.
This sundial dates from 1998 and is located in Shiremoor, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
The sundial stands on the summit of a modern, artificial hill, approximately 15 metres high. The 'face' consists of paving slabs in a variety of shades, with iron numbers around a central disk with a sun motif. The gnomen is a large, slanting slab of orange/brown iron weighing 4.2 tons, with relief designs of natural forms imprinted on either side.
Unfortunately, today was very overcast and there were no shadows to allow us to see whether the sundial was accurate or not.
This sundial was placed for Vintennial by the Centennial Commission to commemorate 100 years for the Town of Vinton, VA USA 1884-1984 TFTC 1BuzyMom
We stopped in to a restaurant in Altoona, PA to see Kickin's Dad's artwork and when we stepped outside, there was a sundial in their entryway!!! What a find!!! Thanks!
Found this one last summer while doing a cache nearby. It is located in the ISU Arboretum.
Found this one made of tiles during the hunt of an other cache.
I can not say something about the history of the sundial. But I can say the GPSr on the picture is history now. This is the last photo taken of it. I lost it a couple of minutes after.

This is a very unique sundial! It cannot be bought for any price, because I calculated and constructed it by myself. How come?
When I was about 19 years old, we had to do a geometry exercise and to construct a sundial. So I made one for the home-coordinates at that time: The location is in the village Ittigen, close to Berne, the capitol of Switzerland. This is the place I lived with my family at that time.
I still keep this one because it was quite hard work to calculate and construct it!
Hopefully you accept this log, since this piece of a sundial is very precious to me.
Thanks for this cache and best regards, PicoKnirps (Switzerland)

1912 Sundial on the University of Oregon Campus http://libweb.uoregon.edu/guides/architecture/oregon/xsundial.html
I had given up on finding a sundial that I could log. I had researched a couple times and didn't log one that had been vandalized in a park nearby which was logged in turn by someone else. Then by chance I was looking for something else and saw a reference for this dial. When I looked up its location I couldn't believe it. It is located just accross the street from my office Less than 600 feet from the front door. this dial was placed on the U of O campus in 1912 in memory of a lost son. One of my more rewarding finds in that it came so unexpectedly. Thanks

Found this sundial on the outside of the Liverpool Astronomical Societies Observatory at Pex Hill near Widnes in the UK. It's a true "sun" dial and looks hand made. Sorry no sunshine today but the time was 11:30am
Found this sundial in Pekin Il. No sun today just a lot of snow. Called,"The World's Greatest Sundial" was constructed in the summer of 1992 in the memory of Jerry Waskowski. The picture does it on justice.
Found this one in the city of Wolfsburg in Germany.

This sundial is not very glamourous. It is a very simple one, but it is placed on a colorful, funny house in the village "Hatzendorf" in Austria. Driving by on the way to a cache I found this sundial. Unfortunately the sun was hidden behind some clouds, so no time was shown in this case. Also the GPS is not very good seen on the picture [8)], but the coordinates were accurate .

This is at the new Columbus Learning Center in Columbus,IN,this is a vertical sundial standing apx, 1 1/2 stories high
Port Perry Ontario Canada This very large sundial stands in the centre of a display area which also proudly holds significant flags and other historical memorabilia. Unfortunately, due to our very snowy recent weather (!), you can't read the top of the dial. TFTC
This sundial is on the side wall of Montmorency college in Laval, Quebec, Canada. This was a project of ingeneering students back in the 80's

College Station, Tx. Texas A&M campus. We were looking for another locationless cache in the area and drove by this one. I though that it was some sort of star chart or something. I didn't think that we were going to be able to use it for a cache of any kind but then I started looking at this cache. I looked up the web site that tells you where all the sundials are in North America. I was surprised to find out that we were at the one that it had on the web site. Luckily we did take a picture and get the coordinates. I thought that would have been logged but it was not.

This sundial is on one of the side walls of St. Mary's church in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape in South Africa.
This morning while we were doing this cache the church service was taking place in this delightful little church which dates back to the early 1700's.

This sundial is located on the south wall of the Eversberg church. Eversberg is a village connected to Meschede, Germany.
At first it does not look like a sundial, but the city guide said so and taking a closer look in the summer the sun is high enough to let the sundial work but now its winter and the trees are too high [B)]

When I was driving past the old Elston High School in Michigan City, Indiana, I noticed this weird thing on the wall. It took a couple of minutes for it to register that it was a sundial! I had given up hope of finding one before the end of the year & it apparnetly has been here for years!
I was not able to history, but I don't think that the school is old enough to have had to rely soley on this timepiece!lol Although the sun was nearly down when we took this pic, it was pretty accurate on the day I saw it. Since we live in the land of Daylight Savings Time, I began to ponder how that effects the efficiency of a sundial. Any feedback woould be appreciated.
I have never seen a vertical sundial before. Are they fairly rare? Thanks for raising questions for my inquiring mind!

This sundial is located in Neuss (Promenadenstr. 13), near Düsseldorf, Northrhine-Westfalia, Germany. It shows roundabout half past 12 which is exactly the time I took this photo.

This sundial is made 1968 by Gunter von Lienen according to the imprint on the gnomon. The gnomon is an obelisk made of profiled copper and the hours of concrete and stainless steel.
Found this sundial at Breedon On the Hill church in Leicestershire, England, whilst doing a nearby cache.
On this church tower is a sundial for every time.

A sundial erected in the middle of the small village of Nercwys in Flintshire in celebration of the Millenium.
An eighteenth century sundail that stands in the churchyard of the parish church of St Mary's, Nercwys. The octagonal copper dial is mounted on a circular plinth. It is incised “Lewis Thomas (of Chester) fecit 1768â€.
UBC Sundial. In the Earth Sciences section of the university. Constructed by the Class of 84.
This sundial is located in the Public Gardens, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. There is an inscription that says mean sun time in Halifax is 1hr 14min behind Atlantic Daylight Time. We were in daylight savings time when this photo was taken and the local time was 1:01PM. The sundial showed approximately 1:15PM.
We came across this sundial when we were travelling through Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was located in "The Forks National Historic Site." The outer steel shell had a series of holes which were icons for the tools used to "shape the prairies". The sun shone on the stone shell on the inside. The sun was not shining at all on the day we were there.

This sundial is in the church gardens of St John the Baptist Chruch, in Aldbury, Hertfordshire, England. The time shown is 1 hour fast, as we are now in wintertime (GMT). We have included a shot of the sundials location, to show the setting.
Found it in the Stadtgarten, a maritime styled park along the river weser in Bremen Vegesack, Germany
This armillary sundial was commissioned by Professor Emeritus Harry S. Kieval, PhD, Mathematics, and is located on the campus of Humboldt State University, Arcata, California. It was dedicated in October 1983. It features an equation for time correction and contains the twelve signs of the zodiac. It was in place for two years before the maintenance department realized that the sharp, pointed arrow could cause injury and subsequently blunted the arrow’s tip.

This sundial is on the side of Leicester Cathedral. There has been a sundial on the building since the Norman period, a leftover from times before clocks chimed the hours. Sadly the original one succumbed to centuries of weather but this replacement is a faithful copy of the original, which is now preserved. The pictures represent images from the Bible and refer to judgement day.
Sadly modern youth have no respect for such things as a close inspection of the photo will show that the actual dial is bent, quite an achievement considering the height off the ground!
On the top left of the photo an original Gargoyle can be seen peeking out of the Victorian stonework.

We found this one by chance near White Point in Charleston, South Carolina. It is part of a monument dedicated to the 176 men kiiled in the wreck of the USS Hobson in 1952. We've posted pictures of the monument, the sundial (with a SoccerFanatic and GPSr of course), and also some detailed pictures of the monument.
Our watches said we were there at 11:23 EDT, or 10:23 EST. The sundial read about 10:10. The NOAA solar noon calculator says local solar noon was at 12:04 yesterday, so I believe that means the sundial should have read 10:19 rather than 10:10 when we were there. Not too far off.
The Hobson (DMS 26) collided with the USS Wasp during fleet training exercises, and sank in less that four mintues. The names of all the casualties are listed, and the monument is ringed with stones with the names of the states each victim was from.

Found this one in Bicentenial Park, Sydney. The information board provided corrections to be applied to the sun-dial reading at different times of the years. Unfortunately, not much sun around today, so cannot confirm its accuracy!

This sundial is part of Emerson School in downtown Denver, CO. I thought it was unique because it was originally built in 1884, and was probably used by the students to tell when recess was over.
Located in Roselawn Cemetery in northern Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I was driving around, visiting, and spotted this one near the back of the cemetery. It is actually on top of a small crypt(for cremains). The time was 11:45am and the sundial said about 11:15am.

Well actually I found it long ago. There is a cache here and it is also such a great area, that I come here frequently.
This massive sundial has a 125 foot spire. The 40-ton spire required two, 100-ton cranes to mount. Designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright during the 1950s, the beacon has found its home as the centerpiece to the Promenade of Scottsdale shopping and office complex, on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard. Wright’s original vision was a centerpiece to a proposed state Capitol complex where Papago Park is today. Drawings of the ornamental spire remained in a filing cabinet until 2002. The teal and blue spire has translucent panels that will be lighted at night and will change colors in the daylight depending on the position of the sun.
There is a lot written about the spire, but nothing that I can find on the sundial portion of it.
It was at the end of a very cloudy day, so no shadows to mark the time. I will try again some other time if I can remember to bring a camera, for you sundial fans to see the time on it.

Last year, BC ( before caching ) while vacationing on Cape Cod Ma, I came across the "Lillie Sundial" in Woods Hole. This year I planned to swing by, get the required pix, and make the post of this sundial. Mother Nature had other ideas. Heavy rain and wind prevented the sundal from telling time. Outfor thehunt has agreed to let me post last years pix of this cool sundial. It is named after the legendary scientist Frank Lillie. More information about Lillie can be found here -> http://www.capecodonline.com/year2000/lillie06.htm .

This is "Seven Dials" in Covent Garden, London (UK). Interesting because ... uh, it's got lots of dials
It was unveiled by Queen Beatrice of the Netherlands, but muggins me didn't note what year that was in (Sorry!).

This is "Pipehenge" a very unique sundial at the Ballarat Observatory in Vic, Australia.
Being daytime, the gates were locked, so this was as close as I could get. It is only a couple of metres inside the fence, so the co-ords are still with an acceptable EPE.
There is a better pic of it on their website : http://observatory.ballarat.net/pipehenge.html
Exerpt from the website:
The "pipehenge" was developed by New Zealander Eric Jackson and is used to teach astronomy during daylight hours. The steel construction can be used as a sundial, calendar, observatory, even a climbing frame. More importantly though, it can be used as a very effective teaching aid for the basic understanding of astronomy and the celestial sphere.
In the past, astronomy has been taught from books. By using the pipehenge children actually become the "the compass" with their own bodies being the basis for an observatory.

This sundial is a memorial to the former caretaker of the gardens at the Union Towers in Weymouth, MA. Interestingly, it has an eagle and shows the "Grim Reaper"
