On our way to Adelaide for the mega, we camped at Punyelroo, and drove our way down to Young Husband, for some paddling on this mighty river. With the Adelaide deadline approaching, we spent a week there and on our return trip stayed for a couple of days in the area once again so we could do some more paddling. This one was found safe and dry, others have had some recent maintenance done. Thanks to The COs for all the caches we found along the Mighty Murray. We were also grateful for some recent maintenance done on some of the hides. Domsky

Muggle65 and l had a super early start as we had a huge list to get thru today. It seems a flood had removed most of these . We did a lot of replacing.Replaced.Thank you for the fun paddle

We were invited up from Adelaide for a day of kayaking and caching. Two of our favourite things. This cache was found in its new spot easily.

Found floating in the water amongst the tree roots. I don’t think it was me that dislodged it because the logbook was completely sodden. Not having any spares or anything to perform repairs, I placed it in a nearby fallen tree. See spoiler photo.

——-

I spent an afternoon here kayak caching here earlier in the week but I had to cut my camping trip short due to my son feeling unwell on School camp. I had to pick him up from Wallaroo...long day of driving that day.

Today I continued my kayak journey along the Murray. Glorious weather today, sunshine and hardly a breath of wind on the water.

A couple of tricky hides along this stretch. 13 finds and one DNF.

Thanks for the cache Captain Monkey & Captain Freddo .

I have been asking my husband about the caches along the river for a while… I saw Whitepaws9 from Victoria and we talked about it. Then we decided to do Animal Facts along River Murray in my kind husband’s boat. We found 29 caches and two DNFs (we don’t want to risk our necks by climbing up the trees) and the other one was out of the way. We had a great adventure with lots of laughter. Whitepaws9 did use her kayak if the boat could not reach the bank due to the roots or logs.

Thanks Captain Monkey & Captain Freddo for the cache Smile

Great day for kayak and boat with Lava12 and her generous captain hubby!
Good laugh and so much to see during animals series cache.
Thanks for bring me here and cache.

A while ago JJ52 asked me if I could take a day off work to go caching at Younghusband. I said I didn't think so. A few weeks later JJ52 asked me again if I could take a day off work to go caching at Younghusband. Hmm I thought I had better have a look to see what the attraction was of caching at Younghusband. Ah ha! Now I know why. I hatched a plan to work Australia Day and JJ52 sorted out a day on the river with CP Wanderer.
This stretch of river held caches I had no chance of finding myself, being boat less and geohusband and I having a bad track record of kayaking....
So I could not pass over the opportunity to spend a day on the river with Captain CP and boat hand JJ52. Another added attraction was that there were 2 caches in the sequence that would complete my DT matrix. CP has this expedition down pat, the 7Ps were in full force today ensuring this was an amazing day out.
So on a beautiful day we headed along the Murray for an epic adventure. So much fun, some fantastic caches, marvellous scenery, splendid champagne luncheon. The day ended with lots of geocaches found, several caches replaced for COs, caches maintained where necessary, loads of bashes, scrapes, blood, tumbles, and happy faces at the end of a long day.
My thanks to CP Wanderer for his generosity in spending the day with us, steering the boat, rowing the boat, sorting the fab lunch, giving hints on where to look, supplying replacement containers and log books. To JJ52 for getting me out there and organising with CP. And a huge thank you to all the COs for placing the caches for our enjoyment. One of my best caching days ever!!! EPIC, this is what caching is all about.
Alas I didn't get that elusive 3.5/5 bucket up a tree, so DT grid not finished, but it will be one day.
We couldn't find this one, but CP had a spare container in hand which we attached to a tree. Thinking lots of anglers probably use these trees for shade. TFTC 3LG

1 man, 1 kayak with a mission. To find some of the geocaches along the Murray from younghusband.

I thought I would be able to sit in the kayak for the whole time, was I wrong! YES! I had only bought things just in case but they were fine with majority of the find I collected. All are in good condition and not a worry about finding most. 2 DNF for me today I’ll have to come back later down the track for those.

TFTC 3LG for the series along the riverbank and enjoyable 4 hours paddling

I was checking out caches as we motored up the river but then ran out of data and had trouble connecting to add more. It wasn't until later in the evening that I noticed we were 20 metres from a cache. First thing this morning I went searching but no luck. I then went looking for the next handy one. On return I had some help but no luck.

Thanks 3LG for the cache. This is our find number 779 and we found it at 2:52 PM on 13 March 2018.
Wow-that was a challenge! Pulled up in our riverboat to find cache only 13m away. Took quite a team effort to find it - me up a tree shouting directions and Edie222 scrambling around in the old willows. Triangulated it and pounced.
Log wet!

This is the story of 6 men, 2 boats and over 40 caches.

Boat 1 with Captain Well-Dunn, Navigator Malco-ordinate and Dog’s body and retriever CoC and Boat 2 with Captain Hurtling, able seaman 4Fun and navigator by the stars Astro.

A great day of adventure, water, mud, pelicans, wind, cuts and bruises, laughs, rain, sun and boat races.

Cats eat fish, so when a cat eats a catfish is this considered to be cannibalism?

A great day messing around in boats by all was had!

As I believe the quote goes, "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." Thanks to weredunn4, Hurtle, Cache_Or_Check, Malco and TeamAstro for making this a fun weekend of boats and caching

Cheers & thanks for placing the cache 3LG

6 blokes messin' on boats, out for a cruise to find a cache or 40 today.
In the sun, rain, wind, swell and chop.

Found this cache on an fantastic boating/caching weekend at Younghusband with weredunn4, Hurtle, Cache_Or_Check, Malco and Four-Fun. The puzzles are in the bag, the life jackets were on and the lunch was packed. The were laughs, ducks watching, wind, a bit of driving rain and there was blood on most people. A few caches proved elusive but we got them on our way back.

A massive effort has gone into putting these caches out so thanks for this and the fun that will be had by many many people. Well done. [^]

Thanks to 3LG and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

A bunch of blokes consisting of ‘*Cache or Check*, weredunn4, four-fun, Astro, Hurtle and myself joined forces and combined skill, experience, common-sense, equipment, humour and courage to journey along a short section of the Murray. The aim was to scoop up as many water-themed caches as we could and to use yet another great weekend finding Tupperware using a multi-million dollar satellite system. Mission achieved.

Are Eel Tailed Catfish chased by Eel Tailed Dogfish?

Thanks for the cache, 3LG

Found this cache on an awesome boating/caching weekend at Younghusband with Hurtle, Astro, Cache_Or_Check, Malco and Four-Fun.
The moderate westerly winds blowing down the river made this more challenging in the tinnies, along with the odd light shower, however this didnt dampen the enthusiasm of the group. All caches were eventually found along this stretch, with a few requiring a second look on the return journey. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend!
CacheorCheck found this one after disappearing into the greenery - it was good to hear his cry of "found it"! Log signed

I joined Captain CPwanderer and Ensign Hevwalker for a day out in the boat on the Mighty Murray. Razz As is often quoted - "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats."
[8)] Add collecting a number of caches along the way - well - a great day to remember. Cool

Well, this one is only about 6 inches above the water at present! Surprised But we found this one too! Smile

On a 4 day Houseboat trip up the Murray with a group of friends including JJ52, took a couple of attempts to launch the kayaks but finally managed to successfully, this one took considerable amount of balance to retrieve, but finally got it! (and stayed dry!). Just glorious kayaking along the River, very serene.
Thanks Captain Monkey & Captain Freddo we had a lot of fun getting these caches.

16-Jul-17
When I knew I was going to be on a houseboat leaving from Younghusband and knowing about these caches along the river I wanted to try and get a few of them, even though this was not primarily a caching trip. [^]
This was Day 4 and we moored not all that far from where we were on Day 1 so this morning we got the kayaks out and went for a paddle on beautiful calm waters to see if we could find a few along this stretch of the river. Big Grin
We had fun here paddling in among the willows and it turned out to be a bit of a stretch without getting out of the kayak, but ROMA123 managed to get there in the end and the log was signed even though it was a bit wet even in 2 bags. Surprised
Thanks for the cache Captain Monkey & Captain Freddo. Smile

With some FTFs still available out this way it was time to strap on the kayak and head over for a look.
There are still some FTFs available but did manage one, and quite a few others including 3 more on my DT grid and ended the day with only 2 more spots to go.
Thanks for the cache 3LG

31-Mar-17
This would probably be a good spot to find a catfish but though we saw plenty of fish jumping when we first arrived, jumping time must be over. All quiet in the fish world as we find the cache and continue on. TFTC 3LG.

Out on the water today with Mr 3LG to do a maintenance run and to place a few new offerings.
And early start and beautiful weather made a great day. A number of caches were checked, some doubles were removed, and some containers and/or logs were replaced after damage from the Christmas flooding.

A total of around 25 km on the river as first mate of the SS Mangrove Maggot meant that for once I wasn't that upset about having left the kayak at home.

Thanks 3LG for a great day Smile

This one was okay and after the addition of our stamp to the logbook it was on to the next.

WOW!!! What a fabulous day we had on the glorious River Murray...yet our day did start before 6am! Surprised

The lovely Phoenix Flare and I went out on the water with the very cool CPwanderer and his boat Big Grin [^]. We focussed on the Animal Fact series at Young Husband, and also picked up a few more caches on our journey. We were shocked at how high the river is now after the recent floods - this high tide apparently made a few of the caches easier to grab, but a number of them more difficult.

We saw a mummy duck with her 10 babies (soooo cute) [:X], a few water rats (eeewwww!) [xx(],; I enjoyed soaking up the spectacular scenery and breathed in lots of fresh air. A yummy lunch with champers was enjoyed on a grassy river bank and after getting in and out of the wobbly boat a million times my legs are now like jelly SurprisedWink.

Phoenix Flare and I then went and found a few wandering heroes as I needed to do some cache maintenance for friends.

Thanks for the cache Captain Monkey & Captain Frog! Smile

With a few things falling into place we where able to get out for an afternoon on the river. A great day with plenty of bird life spotted. Most caches found without too much effort but a number involved missing some snags or careful footing with mud or slippery logs or some tricky balancing while standing and reaching over from the kayak. Would have liked to have done so more but there is always another day. TFTC.

CPwanderer invited us out on his boat to do some river caches, an offer too good to refuse. It was a lovely day on the water. Mother Nature was being very kind to us today, a lovely 30 degrees but with the sun behind clouds most the day, and barely any wind. The perfect weather coupled with the fact that there were barely any boats on the water made for a great day.
Jumping in and out of the boat while trying to avoid rocks and trying to push the boat out whilst jumping in made for great fun and exercising. We sunk in the mud like it was quick sand trying to get our feet out whilst either walking to grab caches or while trying to get back in the boat with one foot stuck under mud struggling to get it out. We tried walking on branches that were under water so we didn't sink, this worked well were there were branches.......... until I slipped on one that was covered in algae, I ended up in the mud between branches in a V shape with my back side sinking further into the mud with my legs and my arms in the air, unable to get my legs down to help get me out and one arm had to stay in the air to hold the GPS out of the water. I ended up sinking further into the water to be able to get out of it.
Next we were off to tackle to caches on the cliff side of the river jumping up to do these whilst still wet from head to toe made it harder to move as my clothes were sticking to me and I came out covered in orange dust/mud as it stuck very nicely to my wet clothes. At one cache I was leaning on the edge of the cliff with the top half of my body on the ledge holding onto a small tree with one hand and the other hand trying to open the cache, my legs were on the front of the boat to hold me up. Poor CP had to keep paddling forwards to hold the boat forward so that I didn’t slip off into the water.
After all the caches along this section of the river were down we found a nice patch on the river bank and had a champagne picnic lunch to celebrate a great day. TFTC

After messing around in CPWanderer's boat,
Locus Cache & I located the cache from a different location,
hence re-aligning the boat to where we should of gone in the first place.
Thanks for the cache 3LG

CPwanderer had asked if I wanted to put my life in his hands and go out in his new water craft[?]
I figured that if Clare007 could, I'd better do it too Wink
Seems I might sometimes be able to find geocaches but between my head, Nuvi and my GPSr, I couldn't find Younghusband and ended up having to ring CP and state 'help, I'm not lost as I know where I am but I don't know how to get to where you are!Red Face'
CP gave me directions and I arrived, an hour late Red Face despite having left home at 6.30am Sad
Off we headed and we didn't arrive back at the boat ramp until about 5.30pm after having spent a wonderful day on the river Cool
Made better by Subway and champers for lunch Cool[^]
All up, I found 32 Smile caches today and topped off a fantastic day by getting FTF on an earthcache on my way home Cool

I'm not likely to remember all of these caches individually but what I do remember is: water, smooth, shallow, muddy, algae (red), pelicans, large skink lizards, fish jumping, tiny shrimp jumping, shags diving, ducks, ski boats and wakes to bounce through, trees both dead and alive, walking in mud and hidden underwater sticks, Clare007 scaling cliffs, CP paddling and steering and praying that no snakes came wriggling towards us Cool [^]
A fantastic day out in great company Cool

Was invited out for a caching adventure I would not forget quickly by the Co's of the caches along this section of the river.
Came prepared with change of clothes, life jacket ,food and water.Fly net and sunhat.
Also camera to take photo's along the way.
It certainly was a fantastic day which I would not have been able to do with out Mick and Linda.
This was one of many caches I managed to find.

Although my name is first in the log book on several caches am not claiming FTF.
Feel that being out with Co was not fair to any cacher wanting to attempt this great series.

Go out and be adventurous it is well worth is as long as you have a boat and perhaps another person to hold the boat whilst you climb. stretch, slip, slide and if not careful get very wet.
Co even managed to fall and vanish above his shoulders in water whislt trying to secure boat for me.

At times felt the terrain should have been higher as was taking chances on roots and rocks that were not very secure and falling away as I stepped on.
Loved exploring inside a couple of the caves and the earthcache area was the best spot.

At one cache we found a nice shady spot for lunch before heading further along the river.
The scenery was spectacular in spots .

Can highly recommend those that can go out and try for these caches to do so.

As I did so many caches today this is a generic log unfortunately.
Thanks for the wonderful day on the river and lots laughs along the way.

*FTF* @ 12:45 :c)

Saw these published... and as the weekend was going to a nice one, we planned a little geo-camping trip to the river.

Last time we visited this area, we managed to find a nice little spot along the road to launch the kayak. Though this time around, it was a little more tricky... as that spot was being used today, the boat ramp area was packed with wake-boarding boats and jet-skis! There is also an excessive number private property signs along the river bank :c( We eventually found a little spot not far from our previous spot... and after successfully launching the kayak "solo" style :cP we headed across to our the closest unfound cache, where we were rewarded with a blank log sheet :cD TFTC 3LG!!
