With some new caches published late yesterday along a pretty section of Murrumbidgee-adjacent reserve, it didn't take much arm twisting to line up StarsAlign and SocialClimber to a long morning's adventure.

This is perfect country for the eMTBs . Once they've been hoicked over the starting gate there's no more fences to cross for the entire trip, and in general the track is in OK condition, looking as if it's been mown in the last month or so.

Easy riding which the EMTBs handled with style and aplomb - except for a rapid deflation of my rear tire about halfway through, necessitating a quick replacement - and it certainly made today's 26km return trip much faster than it otherwise would have been.

The detours off-piste towards the river caches were well worth the effort, with some absolutely spectacular spots selected by the CO, providing a quite different view of the Murrumbidgee corridor to what we've seen from the Tuggeranong side.

A fantastic day with impeccable company and excellent caches.

This cache was quickly located in good condition.

Thanks, Ilmari_the_Red.

A call last night from caching colleagues and a trip was quickly organised - starting from Point Hut crossing and heading up the western side of the Murrumbidgee River. And what a great day it turned out to be for a combination of e-biking and walking (and also some rock hopping/climbing). Had a fun ride along the mix of stone, gravel, dry dirt and grass tacks. Dumping the bikes and making dashes into the grasses and down the rock slopes to the river. Fun day with good company. Poor MB had a blowout on his ebike, fortunately he quickly fixed it and we were on our way again. Also enjoyed eating the blackberries. TFTC

Feeling pretty happy that I brought my waterproof hiking boots today. This place has many of well built wombat holes. Tftc

Initially I considered accessing this from the wrong side, but figured it'd involve broken branches and falling into a prickle bush. Access from the proper side was too easy. On exit we found the wombat toilet, hooray!

Took off for a 10km+/3.5 hrs hike along the M from the carpark just over the weir. An easy going trail but never have I walked through so much long grass in my life, certainly wouldn't do it during the warmer months. With a goal in mind I commenced the journey at 3.10pm. It would have to be at a decent pace, and with quick finds as sunset would be at 5.03pm, and I didn't want to be scrambling rocks in the dark. which I was able to continue all the way.

Criss crossing back and forth over the trail and into the fields I made objective with 13 minutes to spare (4.50pm). A separate adventure there, see GC804YG if you want to read it (not that exciting). Back it was then to the geomobile, taking a bit of a short cut then following the track for a speedy return at 6.45pm.

A great afternoon's adventure, 15 from 15 found and logged. Any notable specifics detailed at the end of each individual log.

Log quickly found, signed and replaced. TNLNSL TFTC

In these coronavirus times, the activity of geocaching seems to fit the bill, providing ample fresh air and exercise opportunities. Today, I sought out several caches on the western bank of the Murrumbidgee River opposite Pine Island. I removed boots to cross the Murrumbidgee near Tuggeranong Creek and had the unusual experience of walking in knee-high grass. Fortunately, it was too cool for snakes to be active. I waded back to the eastern bank at the Pine Island picnic area. This cache was the fourth that I found. It was a straightforward find, being in an obvious position on the coordinates. Fortunately the river wasn’t running! Thank you Ilmari_the_red for installing and maintaining this cache.

I visited this cache over two years ago in the Summer. On that occasion, I had dogpaddled across the river at Pine Island with a waterproof bag with my GPS and bushwalking clothes. I found the cache but my biro had died. I left it thinking I would come back soon. But it took some time.

Today was too cold for swimming so I walked from Point Hut. The cache was still where I found it last time and in good condition. This time my biro worked and I signed the log.

Today I focused my caching along and near the Murrumbidgee. Having found Rocky Raceway, I was now on the west bank of the river. I hadn't planned on finding the caches on this side, but decided to go for it, and ended up finding all the caches on this side of the river before crossing over again. Cache easily found. TFTC.

A quick trip across the rocks keeping my feet dry today as the river is low. I love the area and the cache. Thanks for the placement.

#2384 3rd find of the day. I crossed the river more than 1km downstream. I arrived at GZ the difficult way, then left the easy way. Happends all the time. Signed and replaced. TFTC.

Sunday 18 June 2017 - a superb crisp sunny Winter's day with a brilliant blue sky in the mid teens walking just over 13km in 4 hours (total accent 331m) to find 6 from 6 caches during the warmest hours of the day. Of these caches 'Rocky Raceway' not too far away is a magnicent location and a must find cache just for the superb rocky scenery. Quick and easy find. Thx p2p. TFTC Ilmari_the_Red.

I was walking so fast to try and get back before I got a soaking I actually overshot this by about 70 metres, ooops! Quick backtrack and I was soon up the creek and up a tree...got to love Geocaching! Cache was just holding on and I signed it and replaced it in a more secure position. Thanks again for a nice cache.

2286 2 of 6 today

I came out to south Tuggeranong last weekend as I have lots of unfound caches down here. I've always wanted to get Rocky Raceway as I'd seen it from the north side of the river, but it is inaccessible from there, yet to close. So I checked the maps and found that it would be a long walk today. I parked at Point Hut Crossing armed with lunch and the target in mind. Conditions were good for walking, cool, not much breeze and it stayed dry.

The old man wasn't about today. An easy find. Not too sloshy underfoot.

Out for a walk to grab a few caches over this side of the river with Agent Basil and LuckyL10n.....

Parked the car and then looked for the track...once that was spotted it was an easy walk all the way to GZ. Managed to spot a wombat run down the hill and into his burrow just as we were arriving at GZ....and then while signing the log, he stuck his head out to see what we were doing. Tried to grab a photo, but he was too smart for that and disappeared back down into his home.

Cache log was signed, cache replaced and we headed off to the next one. Thanks for the walk and the cache Ilmari the Red.

The first for the day on this glorious winter's day, on an excursion with Sol and LuckyLion. Very cute being spyed upon by the curious junior wombat. I made the find with the goretex Scarpas doing their job admirably. Lovely spot, thanks for the excuse

#4783 - 11:20; This was the first stop on an excursion with Sol de lune and Agent Basil along the western banks of the mighty Murrumbidgee River. Spotted a wombat heading to his burrow at speed on our approach and after logging the cache, spied him spying on us as we were leaving. Too slow to grab a snap of him peeking from his burrow as we headed off again. A favorite I think! TFTC Ilmari the Red Smile

Found IT!

A nice cool day without rain, decided on a short walk to find a few caches. Took awhile to get along the bank with lots of rabbit and wombat holes hidden in the grass. Found a track to get back to the car at Point Hut in half the time as the outward journey. Boy I wish I had known of this when going out.
Only regret was that I did not continue on for another two kilometres to do Rocky Raceway and the Farther Bank. Oh well another trip. TFTCs.

Found at 3:48:00 PM

I needed a bit of a workout today so I loaded the mountain bike onto my shiny new rack and drove down here to explore this trail. As far as this stage it was pretty easy riding. It is an interesting creek. It almost looks mown.

Thanks Ilmari_the_Red

TFTC. To get to this cache and a few others in the area parked car at pine island and walked towards this cache. Then swam across with all my worldly possessions in a plastic bag, etrex30 had in my hand, but that can withstand abit of water with ease. Well concealed container and poor old man, has had a hard life. Cheers.

4509. As I found myself on this side of the river chasing another cache, I decided to check out these other two. I followed the track all the way from "The view from the West Bank" and soon arrived at this one. The flies weren't too bad here today and the Old Man soon surrendered his treasure. No wet feet either! Now back across river somewhere???
Thanks Ilmari for the fun.

Found with Decrypter and Coybear2000. Rather than a very long walk, we decided to paddle across the river and then walk. Once across, we realized we should have gone further downstream, but on we trekked. Soon we found the spot with the interesting den. Soon had CIH. TFTC

Between moving house, going interstate for work, feeling worn out, getting sick and bad weather it had been a couple of weeks between geocache outings. So, this afternoon when the rain stopped I set off in the damp greyness for a walk along the largely ignored side of the river. I'd had my eye on some of the caches on this side for a while, but was waiting for the weather to warm up enough to attempt a wet crossing. I didn't know you could walk on this side, but the description in one of the more recently published caches gave me a clue and I drove to the less favoured of the Point Hut Crossing carparks. After a bit of stuffing about I found the partly overgrown trail and enjoyed a lovely 13 kilometre walk.

I came to this one from Centrelink Cliffs and followed the nearby fence line rather than returning to the main track. Not a great idea due to the longish, thick grass. While snakes were not an issue today. the ground was littered with old and overgrown wombat holes, which meant focusing on every step. Not a big deal, but a little extra effort.

I really enjoyed this one. It was fun getting up close to the Old Man and embracing his secrets. A lovely spot and a pleasant bit of effort. And a 2TF, which wasn't a bad result. TFTC Smile

Chooo ooo *FTF* at 7.45am! Considered this yesterday, but it was raining. This morning wasn't raining, so decided to have a crack at it! Have been down this path many times, but today was the first time on foot. Due to chance of rain, I decided not to ride. Besides the track was muddy.

Within less than 5 minutes my shoes and socks were soaked to the skin, due to wet grass. Oh well, the good news was, they weren't going to get any wetter! I was just going to be a squelch walker for the rest of the hike.

Now, being early in the morning, in the still relative cool (15 degrees), I didn't think that flies would be an issue! However, they were insane! I must have killed 20 or more, but they still kept coming! Someone needs to do a thesis on this - by how much do I reduce the flies by swatting them? What were they doing before I came along? Couldn't they just have kept doing that? Do they hang around until they are swatted, or do they eventually leave?

Anyways, soon arrived at GZ, to find a SWAMP! Wow this was full of water! But that's OK - my feet were already soaked thru! Found the container quickly enough, but took a while to open with wet hands! Signed log, returned container - done! (I hope that dead branch doesn't perish any more, and release its hold on the container...)

Returned to car, no rain - bonus! Thanks Ilmari_the_Red!
