I received a warning that they were going to be doing a reduction burn in the area about 10 days before it was to happen. Unfortunately, they moved it forward with just 1 days notice and with my trip to the Canberra Mega, I didn't have a chance to retrieve it. A message from a new cacher said the whole area had been burnt, so after 8 years, I am archiving this one.
Epic geocache!! Was almost about to give up and caught a glimpse of it on the way out
The first cache of the first of two daily caching outings in this area, either side of the road.A nice easy find here after scrambling around among the many fallen/cut trees now lying around here. TFTC
Today, myself, Cooper from fisherfamfive and AdamW headed out to Lysterfield Lake Park with the main goal of completing the whole NHL series, with some extra caches along the way too. We trekked through the area surrounding GZ, and after a short search we came up with the goods. Tftc muzza
Out on the bikes for a very big day of caching with CammJT and AdamWickenton; starting bright and early at 9am and finishing up at 4:30pm, covering a total of about 30 kilometers, with the main goal of completing the NHL series, and collecting a couple others on the way. Number 33 of our big day out, after making our way through the bush, the cache was shortly in hand. Tftc Muzza
A lovely spring day saw us caching at Lysterfield enjoying the bush walk while picking a few smilies, including this cache.
Thanks Muzza for the placement.

Well no one wants bed bugs but it looks like the original cache would have been fun..A quick cache find while I trapiezed over to this side to explore.
Spent an hour on a lovely autumn day to do a bit of caching and walking in Lysterfield
Track walking, bush bashing, road walking, roo tracks and rock outcrops added to the fun
Cache was found in good condition. Log signed and returned as found before moving on
Many thanx to Muzza for the cache and ongoing maintenance

Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".
So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.
**Thanks to Muzza for this adventure, looking forward to many more.**

On a walk in Lysterfield and heading to Birdsland Reserve and collecting a few caches on the way - one day, I'll clear out Lysterfield. This cache took me a while to find as there were a lot of downed trees. The park rangers are probably trying to make the area look more natural and not so much plantation-like.
Cache was found without many issues, and I used a "spider stick" to stop walking through webs.

Very difficult spot to find the hidden bed bugs. Trees have been cut down they r not scheduled to be burnt. Great fun. Grandmas first time.
I think I would have rather enjoyed the original version of this cache. As would, I daresay, my young companions (team HappyRacoon) whose first caching day was today. Even without the fun bug game, this was a lovely spot for a cache, in among the tall, straight trees. To get there, we got wet feet along Wellington North break firetrack, and collected numerous sticks. Little feet were getting tired, but they had enough energy for this one last hide. Names were signed, swag was swapped, and I think overall a positive first experience. I dropped off a TB for further adventures. TFTC.
So good to finally get out and about again! Cheers for bringing us out for a great hunt!!!
Found two nights ago. A windy night and I was wondering why are there so many felled trees here? And thought perhaps they came down in the wind? Uh oh… but we didn’t get squished by and trees. And also didn’t get blown away by the wind when we got to the boulders at the top of the hill. Very nice vegetation here. We followed the wallaby tracks and found our way to a human track easily enough.
Cheers

Time to head home from this road trip. Stopping along the way in Bunyip, Garfield and a few other spots as well as a late afternoon check in at Lysterfield.
After a bush bash down from the top of the hill, we worked our way back up to this cache. A quick find at GZ as the light was slowly fading.
Thanks Muzza for placing this gamepiece in the wild for us to find.

Six weeks into the year and I'd only found one cache. I set out this afternoon to make amends. If I recall correctly, I was the last person to attempt the original bed bugs but by the time I did, it had met its maker and couldn't be revived. This cache was a much simpler proposition and presented no difficulties.

Hello there dear bed bugs, I’m sorry you’re gone, but I’m awfully glad this lovely prize is in your place.
Hiking around and doing some geocaching today.

Unfortunately, with the current 15 km. limit, I can't get to fix this cache. If you find it, send me a photo and log your find.
We found it, but requires attention. It’s water logged and couldn’t sign the log. TFTC
A very quick find and we were very happy after not being able to retrieve the last 2 solved puzzle caches just now.
However, (there’s always an“however”) the cache is so wet and soggy, it needs an maintenance overhaul. The box is intact but it appears last finders didn’t close it probably.

Pretty wet inside it - poured some water out and there's no way you can write on the paper as it's completely waterlogged.

Was all apart and ruined by rain... have tried to replace it as best I can... will need maintenance
Too bad I never got to see the original, but thank you for the photos and story! Quick find.

Heading to mum's to help out with a couple of things and grabbed this on the way past.
Nice quick find, walked up the hill a bit and then hit the road again.
Cache logged with sanitised hands.
**Thanks for placing this cache Muzza**

Sadly , The Whittlesea Event 2020 has been cancelled this year because of this cursed Corona thingy but big things are still continuing to happen in Victoria! *Are you joining in the fun?*

Father's Day caching adventure during 2020 lockdown. Lucky it's within 5km of home and only took us an hour (ish) to walk here!! Thanks!
Nice area for a Cache.
Saw a family of muggle Kangaroos, who seemed to be happy to watch.

While the race that stops the nation was on this geofamily decided to head to Lysterfield for some caching. What a lovely day to stroll through this park. I don't think we've been to this section of Lysterfield Park before so it was a treat. Anyways a quickly stroll from where we parked and we arrived at GZ to begin our search. It wasn't long and the prize cache appear before us. I signed the log while the little geokid traded swaps.
Shame we're a few years too late to see the Bed Bugs.

Just catching up on logging some finds from a few weeks ago.
Last find in the area for the day (turned out to be unseasonably warm, so needed some refreshments after this find!!).

Headed over to Lysterfield Lake Park for our walk and to pick up a few caches. Once at GZ it was Mrs Pooky who spotted the sneaky hide but it was Mr Pooky who did the retrieving. TFTC and bringing us to this spot. TNLN.
We found RIP Bed Bugs on our Lysterfield afternoon wander.
A quick fine by EB99. A nice memorial to your older cache, it’s a shame we didn’t get to see it as it sounds like it was wonderful.
Thanks Muzza for placing this cache and being a part of out geocaching adventure

Even though Knight_shift had already found this cache, they were good enough to keep me company as we hiked in to this one. I was impressed by the openness of the area under the trees, and enjoyed the company of quite a few roos who wondered what we were doing there at night. Finding the container, we signed the log and kept moving towards another goal. Tftc Muzza.
Today was my first visit to this area. Understandably, with the tree cover, the GPS was taking a while to settle. I spotted a likely hiding spot and soon after, the nice large container. In good condition.
I remember playing the original Bed Bugs machine. I even brought my own batteries in order to play and I seem to remember reporting a problem with the unit to Muzza at the time. So much effort by Muzza to build a cache like this, and so much fun to play. Returning today some 9 years later to find a replacement traditional cache, wasn't as exciting but brought back a lot of memories. TNLNSL. TFTC. Kkams.
Strange, I know I logged this cache earlier today. Now it's showing that I didn't. Try again.
