Out for a big bike ride, and decided it was time to stop for a banana break. Should I stop here, or there? I’ll stop there. Let’s check if there are any caches nearby. Oh. I should have stopped here. Then there. Now I am going to eat my banana there, double back to here, then pass by there again.
Puzzle solving with a twist. Dropped the Supa's off for a sleepover and made the finds after dinner. Thanks
Crap weather today to get out on the bike so out in the car collecting a few caches.
This one was a previous DNF for me, so today I widened the search area rather than focusing on one item as I did last time

Was in the area and decided to try this one again.
I reached out to a previous finder, soon after the cache was found.
That's embarrassing... the one place I missed.
I also can't believe it took so long to figure out the puzzle.
Good to turn this one into a smiley.
Stamped the log book and returned the cache to its hiding spot.
Thanks Freddo for this cache.

was at work nearby today when it hit me on how to solve these.
I've had my eye on these caches for months and I can't believe it took me that long to catch on.
I made my way over after work to finally collect them.
However, this one remains unfound.
I looked high and low and in every hidey hole on all the different structures surrounding GZ but came up empty.
Since I found one means I can find the other right?
Apparently not.
Will put this on the watch list and see what happens.
Thanks Freddo for the cache.

An interesting location, previously unknown to me. History all around. Cache blended in well. Thanks Freddo.
Today I went to Newport for business. After that, I tried two caches nearby, and found both.
Puzzle has been solved in the mid of last month. Glad to solve a Freddo puzzle without any help.
Drove to the end of the road, and walked to the final location. No one was around, and I started searching. Not in the first place I checked, but in the second place I checked, I found the cache.
Cache container is in good condition. Signed the log book. It seems I'm the first finder for this cache in year 2022.
Thanks for the puzzle and the cache, Admiral Freddo.
PS: the photo was taken in the listed location.

After a dip at Semaphore South had a little wander around Port Adelaide. This was the second of five caches of three different types that were found on the shortish way home.
Can almost remeber thinking when this and it's opposite came out, that wasn't too hard, must come and find them sometime.
Sometime was quite a while coming.

Thanks for the cache, puzzle and gentle hint that ended up not really helping a great deal. Well it sort of did, but that part was clear after a few re-reads. I tend to over think these puzzle caches, simplicity was the key here.
The people of Portugal have been growing grapes along the Douro River since the time of Jesus. The wines of the region were officially demarcated in 1756. While the term demarcation sounds confusing, it basically means the quality of Port wine is protected. Port became wildly popular when English merchants started adding brandy to preserve the wine for export. Most Ports have added spirits to stabilize them for long term aging.
If left to my own devices, this cache would have had some long term aging without my mark in the book. I eventually had the light bulb moment (that would be a red light bulb being port) and solved this and its compadre in unison.
While out tonight on a reconnaissance of solved puzzles, this one was quickly found and signed. It has been a while unloved but was in good condition. So many times I have ridden a loop around this area and never ventured in. It was a nice walk tonight in calm and delightfully warm conditions compared to what has passed in recent days.
As always, a simple and great hide Admiral Freddo

Spent the afternoon at Port Adelaide walking around in the sunshine (and wind) picking up a few caches. Haven’t been this way for years so it was like being a tourist in my own city.
Not sure if it was the wind or the fact it was a weekday, but not many people out and about today. Makes caching easier so I’m not complaining.
Thanks for the cache.

Nice refreshing air this morning after taking the kids to school, good to clear the head. Tftc
Found with Anne.T Social. Tftc last day of caching in Adelaide before flying back to Perth tonight.
One of a pair of Freddo caches that we finally took the opportunity to cross off our solved but not yet found list... The solution was not too hard for these, yet the location was somewhere we have not ventured yet, so it was quite surprising to see just how nicely most of the area has been fixed up. Lost of jellyfish in the water today, too! TNLNSL TFTC
Came back for this one later in the afternoon when the coast was clear. Out with the kids for a day of exploring the local area for caches and playgrounds. Got to tick off quite a few caches which was great and the kids found most of them. Awesome weather for it too. TFTC and for the fun!
Not sure which of these two I found first!

Did a massive walk from Harts Mill to collect these two caches. If only I could work out other puzzles as quickly. We took an ages to find the first one but the second was an easy pick up. Continued rounds and back to the Mill. We were stuffed after eating loads of food truck food so the walk did us good and the hound loved it. TFTC
Gotcha!
I do love a nice easy puzzle, followed by a nice easy hide.
BTW: It's easy to remember which is Left and which is Right, and which is green and which is red, because even after a heavy night, there is always "a little Red Port Left."

No apologies for identical logs. Companion puzzles get companion logs....
There is an unwritten geocaching rule when it comes to puzzles, "Do not overthink the Puzzle". Well I know this rule well but do you think I know when to apply it?
This and its companion caused me a lot of grief. For a D1.5 puzzle I agonised ov3er this for ages. Tried something. Didn't work. Reid something else. That didn't work either. Tried something more, still nothing. Grrrrrr. Then at an event I mentioned to to the CO and those around and I got a lot of downcast looks, sad faces, head shaking, then a comment was made ad suddenly the lights came on. Red for port and green for starboard. Went home and got it immediately.
This morning, with a busy day ahead, I decided that it was time to head down nd make the finds. Early start and off to GZ. Parked nearby in the apartment area and wandered to the solved coordinates and put fingers on the cache in the first place I looked. Love it when that happens. Extracted the log, signed and replaced. Not a muggle in sight. Then off to the companion.

Thankfully this was a quick find [^] which was refreshing after nearly pulling my hair out over at the other one for over 15 minutes [:o]. SL at 13:15 on Sunday, 16 April, 2017. Out for a bike ride around the port today, so stopped by to make the find. Oooh, two caches for the price of one I thought when they were released. Then I struggled with the puzzle initially [B)] - until the penny eventually dropped! I can be thick sometimes! . Took a good search at gz to find the cache, but found eventually. Day Thirty Two of our holiday - the first day of April, BettyBoo3747 and I are still at Semaphore in Adelaide.(But not for much longer!)
Today we just bummed around the Port collecting a few puzzles and some trads.
The morning was spent in the car, and the afternoon on the deadly treadlies.
Found one the other was a lot easier.
A better view of the yacht race from here.
A nice bike track around this area that we wouldn't have otherwise found.
Thanks, Robmc.

#12286. Day 32 of our SA holiday. March is over and here we are with April Fool's Day already and that means we are due to leave for home on Monday. Sad at the thought of it but looking forward to getting home.
With some rain this morning and grey skies we hopped in the geo-chariot and headed to the areas around Port Adelaide and Garden Island. This afternoon we got the bicycles out and headed out to gather up some more puzzles and traditionals. I seem to have finished the day with 25 smilies and 4 DNF's.
OK so Port is red - I know that, but will no doubt forget it again shortly. A nice area here by the water and we watched a remotely controlled yacht race from nearby. They were having a battle in the gale-force conditions. I was pleased to retrieve a small geocoin that was dropped in here by Doctor Owl in January. Will move it along.
Thanks Freddo

Owl decided to guard the cars while the more enthusiastic cachers hiked around the ship. They did manage to drop a TB for her though. Or it might have been in starboard - if the colours are incorrect!
Another way to remember which is left and which is right is to think of the historical origins of the terms.
Think back to olden days when boats didn't have rudders but had a tiller on the side used to steer. These were long 'boards' used to 'steer' hence steer board which became starboard. As most people are right handed, these steerboards were on the right hand side of the boat.
Because these steerboards were on the right, when the boat berthed, it had to berth on the left hand side in port, hence port was left. Of course you just think of the colour of port wine to remember that port is red and therefore starboard green.
Anyways, we enjoyed a short stroll around the loop track waiting for Portobello Cafe nearby to open for lunch (very pleasant) grabbing these couple of caches.

When I was a child in Cubs (the precursor to Scouts) we played a game called 'Port and Starboard', which is sometimes known as 'Hit the Deck'. This game taught me port from starboard, and bow from stern etc. But what really cemented this knowledge in my brain was all the fishing trips in Dad's boat as a teenager. He often got me to drive the boat under his supervision and that was where I learned the maritime rules. I always remembered port was left, because (a) both words have four letters - as opposed to starboard and right which were longer words - and (b) as a Glenelg Tigers supporter and later a Adelaide Crows fan, Port can never be right! Easy!
I solved this one and the 'partner' cache quite some time ago, so decided it was finally time to venture to the bad side of town to find these caches. After finding the partner cache nearby (which took me ages, and I had to phone a friend for help), I was very happy to have this cache in my hand after only a minute. It really helps to know what you are looking for, and the type of hide. TNLNSL TFTC Admiral Freddo!

So I am in Adelaide for 3 hours of work in the evening and have a early flight so a day of caching with brisal5 planned. Thank you to all of the owners for their creative hides.
Mogni was in town for one of her 'flying' visits. That means some caching time before she was required for a few hours 'work' before some more caching. The GOTHs needed some maintainance down Semaphore way so I spent the past few days solving a few puzzles down that way. After picking up mogni from the airport it was time to cache our way down to Semaphore. That done we cached our way into the Port for a great Lunch at a pub that mogni remembered from earlier days. You can take the girl out of the Port but you can't get The Port out of the girl. Stomach rumblings satisfied it was time to get back to caching.
The hardest part of these caches is finding a way in with a car. We actually tried the other one first but then came to this one to get a better idea of where to look for the other. As usual mongi made a quick find. Great way to recycle shipping containers and how appropriate for this location.

We enjoyed this pair of puzzles and they did not take long to solve and for us to have the required coordinates for each cache in the pair. Today we went to look for the caches. Our first impression was the unique constructions at each location. These were a great idea, created with a high degree of flair and a link to the history of the area. Full marks for the design and its contribution to revitalising the area.
Accurate coordinates led to quick finds. Both caches were in good condition. It was pleasing to catch up with SA Sewer Rats and Snap Happy at the second location we visited and we enjoyed one each others company for a period of time. We then walked back to the first location (as they had still to find the one we had found earlier) before going our separate ways. Thanks Freddo for an interesting pair of caches in great and creative locations.

I'm really confused now. Was this Port or was this Starboard? Seems someone else was confused too as I found a TB in this one, but it was supposed to be in Starboard (I think?).
Another interesting spot. Although I couldn't believe I couldn't park any closer. It was a relatively quick find after a false start on a nearby structure. Some muggles walked past while I signed the log. These things just seem to be made for caching GZs!
I spied the next one, but decided to go back to my car and park closer. Lazy lazy lazy.

Owl has never been able to remember her stern from aft or port from starboard. Owls don't do boats well! So it took a little hint before the penny (or is that anchor?) dropped on this one. Fortunately the land was deserted and the water devoid of boats for a straightforward find. Now, where is starboard again?

One expression you are missing is "Odds to Starboard, Evens to Port". A useful expression when finding your way around a ship, as even numbered cabins are on the Port side. Even numbered lifeboat stations are also on the Port Side (although the cruise ship I went on had B and D stations on the Port side).
Refilling Chaff launchers is also handy as you don't want to be hanging around long on deck on the wrong side.
A quickish find after letting Bek and Cal search for 5 minutes first.

Cheers

Port and Starboard, I can never remember which is which even when I was boating. [?] These days I don't really need to know, but tonight along with Ismartis we confirmed which was which and two caches were found.
Thanks for the caches Freddo.

Are these puzzles above board?
They have an absolute bearing with one another of zero!
They were plain sailing though and solved at the rate of knots but I was two sheets to the wind when they were published preventing me from launching at the time.
Today I traveled the eight nautical miles from home in a Leeward direction, tacked and continued as a land lubber towards the safe harbours.
The cargo was secured before the ship’s bell even struck and another successful journey was in the ship’s log.
Take a bow, Freddo

I was in the Port for dinner tonight with Dad and his friend so we stopped by here after dinner and the friend and I went for a walk, while Dad stayed in the car.
It took us a while to find but when I did I couldn't believe I hadn't spotted it earlier. I'm sure I'd looked there!
Anyway was happy to make the find to earn my souvenir for the day
I was worried about Dad having to wait in the car for ages so left the other one for another time. When we got back to the car, he was fast asleep. Damm could have got it afterall.................. I'LL BE BACK!
TFTC and fun Freddo!

Geomum quickly worked out the co-ords for PORT and STARBOARD this morning, then took a trip to GZ with geogirl this afternoon and found the 1st of the two caches!
SL, TNLN, T4TC

After struggling to find the STARBOARD cache I was happy to lay my hand on this one straight away.
What a beautiful spot at sunset. The water looked like glass.
Another location I probably would'nt have visited if not for Geocaching.
Thanks for bringing me out here Freddo.[^] [^]

SEMIK and I were just about to call it a night when the notification for these two came through. I haven't been on a serious FTF hunt for quite a while, so we sat down and on our second attempt, we had coordinates for this one. PORT followed almost immediately after.
Take two for this series. Brad&Janet had already claimed FTF on this one, but we were all heading in the same direction, so after a quick find involving a little twisting silver was ours. We enjoyed a quick chat before we had to go our separate ways. TFTC Freddo!

Fortuitously I saw these two shortly after they appeared.
Initial thoughts? Oh no. Two more massive tomes from Admiral Freddo. And an endless loop to get caught in.
Well I might as well start working through some options
Option 1 -> geochecker smilie! That's a bit unusual but we'll take it!
Strangely enough a similar approach worked for the other one too
So into the geomobile and I headed off towards GZ realising there are others who live closer.
I planned to drive in as close as I could but realised that that was not going to be as the R4V4's way was blocked.
Plan B - I knew I'd forgotten something. So it was to be a foot approach.
PORT was the first one I approached. Wasted a minute searching entirely the wrong structure. I didn't realise I was colour blind. Moved to a systematic search and after a couple of minutes I had the prize in hand.
Opening revealed a virgin log
TNLNSL
TFTC yet again Admiral Freddo
off I headed towards STARBOARD knowing I'd likely be back this way soon.
