I am regretfully archiving this cache since there's been no response from nor action by the cache owner within the time frame requested in the last reviewer note.

Hi tmuppet

This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit and after my previous reviewer note, there has been no owner response. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).

I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.

Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.

Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.

Unfortunately no luck for us today but it was well worth the visit to this well hidden and beautiful spot. We'll be back.

The girls and I have been camping at Awhitu peninsula. Now caching our way around the Peninsula. Quick find lucky for us this could have taken a while cache has no lid.

Found it on the way back home from Leap Day Camping Event in Awhitu Regional Park. Thanks for replacement! Lovely spot BTW!

I got chatting to a group of finders yesterday, who gave the hint of "GC" which I spotted straight away.

Got to searching, and whilst I was able to get a picture of the cache, I struggled to reach it, even with a stick.

Now someone with longer arms will have more success?

Beautiful location, muggles swimming (that is when I abandoned my search, as I was not sure how long they had been out in the water watching me?)

Thanks tmuppet for the hide Big Grin

Got it!

Hint : look for “GC”

29-Feb-20
We bumbed into AlunB, Agazo and Helefant who were leaving and they gave us a nudge as to where we would find the cache so with was a nice quick find thankfully as it could have taken awhile

29-Feb-20
As long as we were in the area, we swung over here to see if we could find this cache. We drove through the gate to the end of the field, but then walked back to the gate on the north side.
At GZ, six of us looked for the cache then agreed that it was indeed missing. We placed a new cache very near GZ and inscribed "GC" with an arrow pointing to the new hiding spot. TFTC.

29-Feb-20
We were heading to the Leap year event at Awhitu, and while collecting the newly released caches we stopped off to collect this one. On the way we bumped into some other cachers, who told us they had replaced the cache and once at gz to follow the arrow and the letters GC to find this one. Quick find here. We were heading back to the car, when the other one of the cachers phoned us asking if we had found a GPS at gz - we backtracked to gz but didn't find the GPS. It turned out that the GPS unit was in the car!!!

Had a fun weekend camping out down here at Awhitu and took the opportunity to rack up some Feb 29 finds with a bunch of nice cache hides around the regional park, some with small groups from the campout and others by myself while riding around the park on my eBike. Great weather and great company, including the CO for a short while also. TFTC!!!

***[======== NZ Mega 2020 ========](http://nzmega.com)***

Planning for the [NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:

* 20 years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!

Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](http://nzmega.com) - you won't want to miss it!

Part of a group camping at Awhitu, and out enjoying some caches around the area. We left a replacement cache seeing as we knew there would be others out caching today from the meetup event, TFTC

29-Feb-20
A group of attendees visited this one while in the area attending the Leap Year Campout Event. We all searched in the obvious places and agreed that it was indeed missing. A replacement cache was put in the obvious place for the next visitors. Logged as LY20 TFTC.

Couldn’t find this one, there was a piece of fishing wire attached to a branch so not sure if this is where it was attached

15-May-19
Was very careful here and kept well away from dotterels .
Surprising to see a house right on the sea frontage !
Found where Philip Perry put it .... But it could fall ...needs attaching securely to branch.
Or replacing where hint says ....
Thanks tmuppet

10-Apr-19
Found it! Don’t look at the hint as it no longer applies. Previous cachet did good job of replacement but should actually go back to under stairs or update cache info. TFTC!

While staying with some friends in Pukekohe I figured I'd go on a small excursion up to the Manukau Heads. I'd had no DNFs so far but this one came close. I'd seen the previous 4 logs but I became curious when reading the 5 logs before those. I'd found the stairs but alas there was nothing under those so I reached out to the help desk and while waiting for a response I finally spotted the cache!

Suffice to say the hint no longer applies. Container is now a film canister attached to a branch almost reachable from the sand. Coords were sketchy as well but the cache was just a little further along from the rock steps. Cheers tmuppet but this one may need a little update. TFTC.

01-Oct-18
Managed to figure out the cryptic clues here and figured out where we needed to look for this one, but it looks like it has been washed away.

01-Oct-18
Had a good search but no luck here

30-Sep-18
Had a wander to the area but no look for us today

18-Apr-18
Parked up at the end of the road and made our way down to the beach being careful to avoid the dotterels, crossed the small causeway and soon spotted the swing. No luck with the cache however, think we located the mentioned steps but there is a lot of slips and broken trees here, hard to tell if that is new or was there at the time the cache was placed. After a lengthy search it was decided that we had limited time so called it quits. Would be interested to know if the cache is still there in its correct spot.

Find number 3716. I have never been this far north on the peninsula so I am spending the day with my muggle daughter seeing the sights and of course doing some caching. The rain had stopped but I did manage to slip over on the way down. Enjoyed the views before heading off to try to find the cache. I spent quite some time looking in all the nooks and crannies, Under and over, Up and down. Eventually I spotted something in a place I would not expect it. After retrieving it I saw that it was a new log sheet so I signed and returned it to where I found it. I am not sure that the original cache is still in place. Then it was back up the hill to the car. Thank you for bringing me to this place.

Plan for this weekend to visit Awhitu Peninsula Never been in this area before except Waiuku.
Met up with fellow cachers from Huntly on Friday night and travelled up on Saturday morning. Plan to start at bottom and work up.+ Cachers were signed with the team name HRT being first letter of our home towns (Huntly, Rotorua, Tauranga)
Generally caches were good but some a little damp, others requiring reading descriptions, hints and other cachers comments to make finds.
As the day went on we realised we would have to return the next day to complete, so this made it a Saturday & Sunday mission.
Weather was great and some amazing sites visited.
Wish to thank all CO's for caches placed. Great trip. SLTFTC

With Gap (of Fap and Gap), ABCDF4, and eyespyben... For convenience, we group signed the logs H(untly) R(otorua) T(auranga) (or P(apamoa), depending on who signed and how heat-addled we were at the time...) We've been planning a raid on the Awhitu Peninsula for some time, with a view to clearing the area of caches... It's time to execute this mission.

Awhitu Regional Park: A great location for a rest, and also for a hide. TFTC.

02-Jan-18
Sign on the gate asked me to close it, suggesting it is open to public. There seems to be a new gate in the fence on the left to give access to the beach with a sign about nesting birds on the sandspit. Looking on wams.org.nz suggests there is public access all the way to the cliffs, but maybe not the beach track. Many thanks for bringing me here, another little known gem on the Manukau Harbour. Cache in good condition.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT Cache! One of the really good ones: nice location, good hint, easy to find, no traffic around, a place to linger and to leave all cares behind. Tftc
(Cache is in good condition).

17-Dec-17
Heading back to camp at the Regional park in Awhitu and decided to take a look for this one....

Took a short stroll and after a little look around soon had all the locations searched to locate the cache.... another nice location on this peninsula.....

A beautiful day, so I decided to go for a drive around the peninsular and grab a few easy drivebys and walkbys. Thanks.

We were out and about today and thought of finding this cache Smile . We parked at the end of
Colbeck Rd and then headed off through the gate with the council sign on it. The nearby landowner wasn't home today so we weren't to sure how to reach GZ. A friendly local who was nearby soon guided us the right way and we were soon on our way. As we approached GZ we appreciated the natural aesthetics and tranquility of the area. We did some CITO in the vincity of GZ so this beautiful location can be preserved Wink . We started searching and after 5 minutes we found the cache Razz . Thanks for the cache tmuppet Cool , enjoyed this cache and location, and easy favorite point from us Big Grin . Dropped of TB. TFTC!!! SmileSmile

Out for a road trip on the Awhitu Peninsula. Parked at the end of the road and then headed off through the gate with the council sign on it. After meeting with the landowner of the path and then heading off around the point to the cache we were invited to the bach for a cup of coffee. A lovely couple with a great outlook over the spit as we watched the tide come in. Missed out on a few caches due to the time spent with them but worth it to meet new people. Picked up two TB's that were listed as being in Anyone for Tennis. TFTC

Today was a chance to go caching with Mrs Dragon. It doesn't happen that often as the places that I tend to go are often too wild and rugged for her. As it turned out many of these roads we travelled it was a case of us both enjoying the drive, the countryside and stormy windy weather, and I going to retreive the cache.
Nevermind was still a day full of memories that make up caching.

This was the thirteenth of the day after passing through Waiuku heading for Awhitu Peninsula and South Head, it was now time to start heading back down the other side of the peninsula. Parked at the required location and quickly made my way down to the GZ (all the time working hard not to end up RSE over kite in the slippery conditions). managed to locate in first spot and tool a moment to enjoy the view before heading back up to Mrs Dragon waiting with the car.

Thanks for the cache, Thanks for the placement

Was out for a Sunday adventure as the weather was so good today. Got a zap off the fence, then after reading a few logs I see I was not the first. We raced down the path to the swing and had a play then found and signed the cache. TFTC

30-Apr-16
I haven't been up the Awhitu Peninsula for a while and today was a cracker of a day.

Cheers for the cache.

Nice secluded area for a picnic before heading back to Auckland after an awesome weekend away, TFTC Smile

#11625. The direct approach turned out to be a bad option. It was only when I was more or less over the electric fence that I found out it was on (don't know why; no stock around). Going down the bank looked do-able at a pinch. However, I figured I could get under the bottom fence wire commando-style, and not get zapped. The track proved to be a much easier way to get to GZ. TFTC.

16-Feb-16
The weather forecast for the next few days is for rain, so we decided that today would be the best day to drive up the Awhitu Peninsula to the Manukau Heads. This is an area that neither of us had visited before and it was an interesting journey.
We had a bit of trouble accessing GZ. We drove through the gate and saw the side gate with "private property" on it so carried on. We got to about 10m away from the cache, but it appeared to be over the fence so StreetWalker hurdled it, only to find it was electric and got zapped in the process. After reading the cache page more thoroughly, we realised we needed to be on the beach, not up here on the cliff so backtracked to the side gate. On re-reading the sign, we interpreted that we could use the path, but be mindful that it was through private property and no dogs.
So headed down the path and we were soon at GZ. SW had a swing, then we got down to business. Took a few minutes to track down the cache. Like the steps, we found 2 sets. TFTC.

'Swung' on down on a beautiful Auckland Anniversary Day with Stellaalouise and her mum. What a day for it! Great little hide and a stunning spot! TFTC!

01-Feb-16
Uncovered this gorgeous spot with fwankiebutwhy? and Mum. I've been visiting the area for well over a decade and have never discovered this beautiful place. Great day for it too! TFTC

31-Jan-16
We got a bit confused with this one. When we got to the end of the road some people had just driven out of the gate so we drove in and down to the fence that said private property (the gate furthest away). We decided not to venture down and we also had our dog with us and the sign said no dogs.

30-Jan-16
We were staying in Big Bay for the weekend and finding a few caches while we were here. We parked at the end of Colbeck Rd and walked through the long grass to the end of the point. Once there, we realised we needed to be down on the beach so looked around for a suitable access point to get down. We werent too keen heading straight down the bank so we decided to head down the path back abit further, even though it said private property.

Well that did the trick, though i wouldn't recommend doing this, we soon arrived at GZ. The cache was quickly found, the tide miles out and boy was it hot! We signed the log and headed back the way we came. Enjoyed this one, TFTC! Big Grin

P.S. Not sure about the correct access to the cache? Id make sure that GPS coordinates are added to the cache page to avoid conflict from anyone via access over private property.
