All quiet here today when Arcane and I visited it was a nice, pleasant stroll to GZ.
Once at GZ it was a nice and easy find. Thank you for bringing us here. Amazing piece of history.
TFTC roachmann!

This was a very interesting site that i visited today. Luckily being a wet drizzly day there were no golfers around the green so i could take short cuts across the newly mown lawn which then meant i had very grassy and damp shoes for the next little while to be changed once we got in to hawera for lunch.
As we approached Manaia the rain really came down and i doubted my wisdom of looking for this cache but luckily the rain eased off as we got to the golf course so i put on my jacket and took off. It was an easy find and it was soon back in place and i strode off over the greens! I took some photos but they are quite dark due to the very poor light. The Block house are some what different to what i was expecting having visited other more elaborate block house,
thank you for bringing me to this interesting spot

#12,167. A short walk in Manaia. Fortunately, GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Quick find. Interesting location for the redoubt. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Ms_KR and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland for our family Christmas. Today is Stratford to Whanganui. Please excuse the generic logs, there have been a few finds and they get muddled up sometimes.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Teamed up with Cats&Dragons, for an overnight mission down the West Coast focusing in and around Hawera. It's been awhile since we've done a trip like this and it was great to be out finding caches again. We left Hamilton at 7pm Friday night and returned midnight Saturday, with only a few hours of sleep needed we managed 116 finds for the trip. A big thanks to all the cache owners for their placements.
Was not quite expecting this here so was quitely surprised. What an awesome place. Cache was found and we spent a few extra minutes here checking this place out. Thanks for bring us here.

A fairly quick find once we managed to reach this interesting historical location. We couldn't find the start of the proper trail, so had to cross the golf course from the clubhouse, but found the correct trail to return. TFTC
We are checking out Manaia this evening. Hey this place is great. Being so late there are no golfers about so all clear for the direct approach. Sadly the cache was missing so arranged a replacement to keep this one rolling along. Cheers
Day 5- Wednesday 18 December. Hawera district again including Eltham and Manaia.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

What a great place! But the cache was gone. Thanks to a good hint we were able to replace it. nice waterproof florist's paper log.
Day five of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki, starting from Palmerston North. Today is Hawera to Eltham then Manaia - it's going to be a slow trip!!
Highlights:
* 3 weeks, 536 caches
* Mt Taranaki had been removed for washing, which was a bit of a shame. Even after it had been returned we were only allowed to see it for it was less than half an hour a day.
* High percentage of caches with crappy coordinates
* Amazing Pukekura Park
* AMAZING Pukekura Park light show!
* Pukeiti Gardens
* Lots of cache maintenance!

Planning for the [NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:
* 20 years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!
Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](https://coord.info/GC87777) - you won't want to miss it!

We looked everywhere the blockhouse looks like it’s had loiterers in it so I wonder if it’s been found or damaged by them you may need to have a check on it
Was hoping for walk a on the mountain today but weather was not suitable, so I settled for a 50km geo-cycle around the plains.
Had no luck with this cache. Could not even see a hint of the log mentioned by the previous geo cacher.
An interesting spot, we'll worth the visit, even though I didn't get a smiley

A trip to South Taranaki today and a few Geocaches. Amazed at the history in little unknown corners of New Zealand. Found the log sheet just lying on the ground with no container in sight. Placed it at back corner with a little cover but will need attention. Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for placing these caches. My mission is to pick up caches on the surf highwayto Hawera
Out and about this morning with child number 4 and she loved it. Wary of the golfers she moved with stealth hunting and hearing some whakapapa of the area from her Dad and I. Snooped her first cache of the day without her experienced bro and absolutely aced it. A very happy child this morning and another great find for us to build up our tally. TFTGC, awesome! Even if we were in a place that housed soldiers that scooped our whenua. A good history lesson for child number 4 and good reflection for us.
I'm heading back to Palmerston North after spending a couple of nights in New Plymouth for a work event. As it is a Saturday, my time in my own, so I'm being leisurely about it and taking my time and of course, doing some caching on the way, catching up on ones missed or placed since my last trip to various locales around Taranaki.
I started off ok on the offical walkway, but lost my way at sign number 3 as I misinterpreted the arrow. No problems as I found my way across a tee and located sign number 7. What an unexpected find at the GZ. Spent a bit of time looking at the buildings and tower and then the cache, which was easily located. Followed the correct path back and located the missing signs for 4, 5 and 6. TFTC

We were staying the night at the golf course so after tea we headed off for a walk with the geo hound. Found the cache no problem then followed the rest of the signs to continue the walk (go left of the site the sign is not too clear) What a pleasant surprise and a lovely walk. Will bring the geo hound again tomorrow when everyone is out golfing. Thank you for putting this cache here and also for the local history.
What an awesome bit of history . Thank you for bringing me here . Cache soon in hand
We headed off to GZ, taking the less direct route along the edge of the course to the walkway. Golf courses always make me a little nervous in case of someone's terrible shot heading our way, and there were quite a few golfers around today. But we made it there and back again without any issue's. There were also some gardening muggles near GZ we had to be wary of. No problems making the find though.
Thanks for putting this in this interesting spot, roachmann.

Im out doing a sopt of long awaited maintenence on my caches in the area, replaced log sheet, a big thanks to the kind soul who left a piece of dry paper behind to serve as a logsheet until i could replace it myself. Re hidden in it's little nook, all ok.
After finishing work in New Plymouth a little bit earlier than I thought that I was going to be I decided that I would take the scenic route around the Western side of the mountain and pick up a few of the caches that have being placed here since I lasted traveled along this lovely SH45.
After finding GC54K0J - Lizzie Bell (coastal south Taranaki), this was the next cache that I had on my list of unfound caches, having being here before picking up a cache that has now being archived, I knew the area quite well. The last time I was here there was a bit more daylight than what I had today as it was getting quite dark, but there was still enough light that I didnt need a torch yet.
The walk across the fairway was quite pleasant as it was far too dark to play golf so I was lucky as I had the place to myself, finally arriving at GZ, I was quite lucky I spotted the cache very quickly, opened to find a saturated logbook, as luck would have it I had a rite in the rain logbook with me so decided to put a page into this container after I signed the logpage and then rehide the cache back as found.
What a nice spot for a cache, thanks for placing it here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (12422), was a safe return back to the car, and then time to make my way to the next cache and head South.

The rain put an end to my day of work. Stopped in Mama is the road side drains were having trouble keeping up with the down poor, I was already soaked, so a walk to a redoubt sounded like just the ticket.
Nice spot, thanks for introducing another slice of history.
Cache was fairly quick to locate although the log sheet was quite damp. I can see this is likely an on going problem given its location.
Cheers.

I am still parked up in Hawera with the caravan and venturing out and about doing the rural caches.
Didn't have to duck many golf balls today as I walked over one fairway.
Cheers for the cache.

We were at Oakura visiting a friend and hoped to pick up one or two of the caches there, but the day slipped away on us and before we knew it we were home again with no new smilies on our map. I cast around for something near, and while my wife made a birthday cake I took a ride in the afternoon summer sun and came down here.
I parked on the main road by the vets and walked up to the golf course, which I remembered from our early caching days as having a couple of now archived hides. There was a small number of chatty locals around on the way there, but nobody at ground zero, and the cache was a quick find because it was poking out from its hiding spot and I re-hid it as best I could.
Thanks for the cache.

Another summer visit to locate the unfound caches in the area and turn them into smilies.
Really windy and trying to rain on our walk to the cache. No problems with the find TFTC.

Out for a day of geocaching around Hawera. As today was World Sauntering Day - the day to take it easy; relax, go for a stroll and enjoy some valuable ‘me time’, a day which encourages you to slow down and enjoy the world around you. So no excuses, time to go strolling looking for geocaches. Turned out it was the day for it, found 23 out of 24 caches.
Found my way into the golf course and as no one was playing this part of the course, in keeping with the day I sauntered over to GZ where I spotted the cache as I approached. Signed the log and returned the cache to where I presumed its hide was. Thanks for the placement and bringing me to this historic spot roachmann.

On a little geotrip around the mountain with JayDubENT, Casey2201 and AABrown29. Cool piece of history here, I didnt even know existed.
Found with JayDubENT, AABrown29 and Riddick0163 on a round the mountain GeoTrip. Nice easy find. Thanks

On a journey through the history of the tangatawhenua. My father's marae nearby. So many recollections from the old people of their early years growing up in this area. Thank you for this cache. Regards 2B2D
Introducing a friend to Geocaching...PlanetXS and I went for a drive in South Taranaki and grabbed a few caches. A quick wander across the golf course....glad no one was out playing tonight...soon spotted the tell tale hiding spot. TFTC
Good to come back here. Great piece of Taranaki history. Very hot and no one on golf course. TFTC
As we headed out towards manaia I said we wont worry about this one as there will be too many golfers but as we passed the golf course there was no one out playing so decided to go for it.
Its certainly a good bit of history there.
Many thanks

Our last one for the morning in South Taranaki. Did not see any golfers on the course as we made our way to GZ. An interesting piece of history and worth a trip out here. tftc
I've just realised this is one of the caches I picked up on a trip into South Taranaki the other weekend, but have forgotten to log. 2 Bulbars and I went into Curtis Falls, then we both headed off to do our own. Me to find some, he to hide some. Great place that I never knew was here. Thanks for bringing me here & TFTC
Last cache of the day before heading back and a chance to complete around the mountain TFTC
FTF 1.15 pm 16/1/16, all in good order, GPS was all over the place. Took FTF token and left tb for STF. Mission accomplished, this one is a wrap. TFTC! Blenheim Bear

Found this today. Didn't even know this was here. A beautiful place. I got a bit confused with the walkway bit but no golfers about so was fine. I saw the geocache before the gps told me. I was aiming for something different haha TFTC
