The Pike County Courthouse was built in 1889 by McDonald Bros. Co. and renovated in 1932-33.
The courthouse was the scene of Hatfield clan trials for murders of Tolbert, Randolph, Jr., Pharmer, Alifair and Calvin McCoy.
The McShane Foundry bell cir. 1889 in partnership with the Seth Thomas Clock, housed in the courthouse's bell tower, proclaims the time of day hourly.

This spectacular view is from atop Miantinomi Tower. I maintain a cache at this location. The tower is a memorial tower now, and the site is rich in history. The hill used to be called beacon hill and was used by the indians long before the tower was erected. The tower can be seen for miles around, and at this point in its life it is only open to the public on Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. In the picture which is looking southerly out of Newport, to the right is Point Judith, and straight out is Block Island. This pictue was taken last Veterans day as I was there on a maintainence visit to the cache.
Thanks!
Thanks!
This tower is the First United Methodist Church of Clarksville Ar. There are onlt two churches in town with towers and Golfnutz is to get the other church.
Premission to visit here was granted by fellow Rotarian Reverend Steve Wingo.
This tower has it's openings covered by lovered copper to restrict access for the birds. Some years ago the bell fell through a rotten floor and would have stopped on the pastor if not for the convinient location of a steel structural beam.
The bell is still in the tower but is almost never rang. But poppy rang it a bit today.

I found this Tower in Hilden, Germany. It was build some years ago by some young arrested People.
This Tower is only for some Days in every Summer open, because the city is so poor that it was too expensive
to pay an Towerguard.
My luck to enter in November was that here some People repair the Electric wires.

Saint-Coeur-de-Marie de Québec is located on Grande-Allée in Quebec City, Canada. The church is about 100 years old. Over the past couple of years, it was closed and is undergoing renovation. Through business colleagues, I was able to get access and take a couple pictures showing the view from the church tower. Not only is the view from the church nice, but the church itself has a unique tower.
Oh, and the GPS said 77 feet above street level.

This is the Spiegelslustturm in Marburg where I was born. Not usually open every day! Only if the weather is fine and in the main season in summer.

During the running of a famous local horse race I was able to visit the tower of St Francis Xavier Cathedral, Adelaide, South Australia. The tower is not normally open. The main reason is perhaps that it is not possible to get a view. All of the windows were either covered or opaque. The best images are attached.
Found the "St. Petri" Church in Hamburg/Germany.

Found this Tower near Meers Oklahoma it was built in the 1930. I believe that it was used as a Ranger look out but not sure on that. It is no longer in use but it's still an awesome site.....Thanks..Cache On...Kattz
This year the scouts from the Rover Crofts scouting group in the Netherlands build a realy big wooden tower for the JOTA antenna. I was fortunate to climb with special permission the 33 meter high rising tower. It was also the starting point of the Attila's JOTA 2005 event cache (GCQDTP). To tower itself it taken down after the event. Hopefully there will be an other tower next year.
From the tower you could see the nearby town of Utrecht in the middle of the Netherlands.
I would like to thank the scouts for their special permisson.
Thank You all.

This is St. Paul's church in Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia,
Germany, one of the oldest and most important landmarks of
the town. It was built in the 13/14th century.
In 1741 and during WWII, it was heavily damaged. Both times
the tower was destroyed. My grandparents actually witnessed
the burning tower collapse in 1944.
Today the tower is about 79 meters high. Usually it is not
open to the public. When I had lessons as a candidate for
confirmation some 15 years ago, I was on top with other
confirmands and our pastor.
Now I had another chance to see parts of my home town from
above. My mother had told me about a special seminar for
adult education organised by the protestant parish. Thus,
we joined a guided tour around and through the church,
which we enjoyed a lot (we spent more than two hours there)
and during which could also get access to the tower.
At the moment, no church services take place because the
inside is in need of restoration. This gave us the one-time
opportunity to see parts of the building from very unusual
perspectives since we were allowed to climb the scaffolds.
They were quite high actually!
As the parish needs more money for the restoration works,
some 16 companies from the region were allowed to organise
an exhibition within parts of the church this weekend.
On September 11, there will be an open day for monuments
nationwide; then the tower of the Pauluskirche, as
we call it, will be open to the public again.
TFTC! I liked the idea!

As I've recently had comments that some of the people who have logged this cache have either ignored, or not understood the rules, particularly the not open to the public rule, in future, to log the cache you'll need to explain how you got access to the tower.
It will be up to you to persuade me that the tower is not regularly open to the public, so you'll need to provide some detail!

Normally closed, the Gosport Church spire was under reconstruction, and I got permission to take a peek to "inspect the work." The Church is also a benchmark, and rather than waste space re-uploading the pics, I will direct you to benchmark MY4804 http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.aspx?PID=MY4804

View of the railway station and mountains from the Basilica of Notre Dame, Geneva, Switzerland. Not normally open to the public, the height was 261m.
Mass was on several times every day. The earliest on Monday, my birthday, was at 7.30am. We had been in Geneva since Saturday. The Basillica was quite big inside and there were about 50 people there. I saw the open door on the right hand side of the church, and went up. I was surprised when I got to the top.

This tower is located in Barga, Italy.
There are towers all over Italy but this is the only one in Barga. A wonderful hill town to visit with few tourists.

During benchmark hunting (RD) in the Netherlands we found this watertower. A technician let us in and showed the whole tower. So we took some nice pictures. Normally only once a year it's open for the public.
This is the DOM in Utrecht in the Netherlands at 100 meters high.
