We stayed over night at the Clairview campground. Heading further north, we made a few stops to find caches and to shop. This one, close to the campground, was an easy find. Thanks a lot for this cache,Murkel,on tour with Muckel1 27. September 2024 09:47
The Trip: Brisbane to Townsville. Delivering a car, bought in Brisbane, to friends in Townsville. Apparently Townsville sucks as a place to buy cars but it does turn out to be a Geocaching mecca!Day 1 (yesterday) of the drive was a 12 hour slog through rain and never ending potholes. Turns out it was a rain event with the heaviest falls since 1999 is some areas. Which I might have known about has I bothered to listen to the news . But it did make for an exciting drive. The early trick I learned was to *always* make sure I had gunea pig cars in front of me to follow and watch as they dodged potholes (some nearly the size of the whole lane )I stayed overnight at the Barracrab Caravan Park at Clairview, a lovely old park with a restaurant/bar right on the beach and started out first thing in the morning to find this, my fifth cache of the trip, and last for Day 2 before heading off on the second leg to Townsville
This was our next break in our journey since leaving Brisvegas very early as we make our way to Mackay for a few days of caching. This was a nice, easy find, then log signed, and off on our merry way.Thank you, Nedandmrskelly, for the good cache placement.
wow A planned trip to Mackay for a caching weekend saw me leave a little earlier than expected. The plan was to cache a little on the way up, then cache Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a drive home either late Sunday avo or Monday morning.I met up with Snickersallan and Grannysmith1947 for the days of caching. Georode was to meet up on Saturday and Sunday for some kayaking. The drive up was good and we got to stop at a few caches along the way, these became our rest stops and toilet stops as well. We got into Mackay in time to grab a first to find as well. Sunday the rain came in and upset plans but we still got in most of our target cachesThe caches we found along the way were in good condition and we signed the logs and replaced as we found them Stops on the way up were in Gunalda, Childers, Rocky, and then Mackay. It was a long drive but worthwhile drive just the same and having a passenger does spur you along.
found quick and signed log at 09:05am and thanks to gem_54 for replacing this one TFTC
Found the Helly pad easy enough, but no signe of the cache . Replaced everything. All good here again . Its not too hard to find this smile look for rocks.
Had a good search around GZ, on sign, under rocks, along fence and in trees- no luck.
Easy Park and grab, even for a linehaul trucker. Now carry on to Brissie . TFTC
After spending the night in Clairview I collected some caches in the morning. Easy find.TFTC
Found It!A quick find here for the first cache of the day. No aircraft to be seen.TFTC
Dropped into Clairview as a break on a southbound road trip. Picked up a couple of caches while here. TFTC

Departed Melbourne many weeks ago now and have been travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully ), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel.
Finally made the northern warmth and the Cape and we have loved every minute of it now we are on our way home again and having many more adventures as we slowly travel south.
Today, we travelled from Mackay to Yeppoon (or Kinka Beach), a fairly long drive today but we broke it up with a few geocaches along the way.
A quick find on the road south
Strange to find a helipad out in the middle of nowhere...
**Thanks for placing this cache Nedandmrskelly**

On the hunting trail again with SeasonedBird (aka Mrs Geo). The log sheet was full and damp, a replacement added. It’s a great day for caching.

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria
And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Staying at Clairview for a few days. Very nice to know that help can get her quickly if needed.
At GZ we knew where it was….except it wasn’t! We got done kit from the toolbar and went fishing,
Signed damp log and replaced as intended.

Ocw the Bebes. Had a good look around and thought we knew where this should be. We used some TOTT materials and managed to recover the cache and replace as intended. Tftc
Having just left the boat ramp we head here for the next cache.
Pulling up on the road I start to follow my GPS across the train lines when I realise there is a road that heads in to where we want to go.
I get Buttons to pile back into the car and head that way while I continue to walk, I'm already most of the way there.
Hmm nope, not in the fence (barbed wire that has half fallen down) like I suspected and follow the road further down.
Buttons catches up with me at about this point and a few minutes later the cache is in hand.
I love simple but tricky ones like this.
Log signed and off to the next one.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 109. Clairview Day 1. I spent the first part of the morning doing the caches along the Clairview shore line. Then I headed south to St Lawrence, where the nearest store is. Still wanting a few more to fill in my morning, I headed west up the Croyden road to the beginning of the range.
There was no activity here today, which I am sure is a good thing, unless there are fly in fly out shack owners here. It would not surprise me.
Thanks for the cache Nedandmrskelly

**This Cache:**
Decided for another rest stop to see what this little village was about.
Honestly I was expecting a nice seaside village with a beautiful beach running it's entire length, that's what it looked like on the map anyway. So was slightly disappointed when I drove through, not as pretty as I thought!
Thanks for the cache, cool little heli pad and a nice hide

**Today:**
Day 18 of my road trip, now heading back to Canberra from the Townsville Mega Event!
Today I drove between Mackay - Theodore, it rained the ENTIRE day, but I still cached my way along the route.
I actually ran into tronador from Sydney today, which was a pretty huge coincidence now that it was well after the mega and we were no longer in Townsville! We found each other at one Earthcache, and then both headed to the same Earthcache next, which was at a cave system! This was extremely lucky as neither of us would have explored this cave alone, but now that we had a friend we entered the cave and had a bit of a look around feeling safer with the situation!
Luckily the rain radar was completely clear from 6pm, so I was able to camp out in Theodore without getting wet! Wooooo! I delayed setting up my swag until it stopped completely, and it didn't rain again, gosh I was lucky! Had a pleasant night!
Thanks to all the CO's

Another quick simple find here today while on a road trip towards Townsville with Swearah and jodsta83.
TFTC. We are making our way to Townsville for the Mega at Easter. As we make our way up we are stopping to find caches between our overnight stops. Always good to stop to stretch our legs. And find a cache as well.
Just in case what? Then the penny dropped helps if one is on the right side of the tracks tftc fav pt
Nice quick grab. I did feel Quilty U turning my van on the helipad. I was quick. TFTC
After parking just off the road I crossed the train line and walked to the cache and then realised that I could have driven and made a quick park and grab, nice hide.

We were a bit perplexed when we first pulled up to look for this one, but after a bit of careful looking we realised our mistake and moved on the short distance needed to find this well hidden cache. Unfortunately the nature of the surroundings make you realise that even in paradise you need to watch out for danger.
Today is another moving day. We have left St Lawrence and are slowly meandering northwards. The next few days we will be staying in Koumala while we try and attach the trails around there. St Lawrence was a good place to stop for a few days at the wetland reserve. Good clean amenities, not crowded with shade and picnic tables dotted around the area. Very cheap as well.
We are enjoying the scenery and the places w3 have seen on our way north. The geo caching trails have highlighted a number of different areas we have just driven past on our previous trips. Being shut out of Victoria (our home state) at present due to Covid restrictions means we have plenty of time to relax and take it easy and find lots of caches! Our thanks and appreciation goes out to the local CO’s for their efforts in placing and maintaining all the local caches we have found. Well done and thank you.

Day two of our trip north to Cairns. Quick stop here and an easy find. Thanks Nedandmrskelly for the cache
Was searching on the wrong side of the tracks for a minute or two. Nice hide. Tftc
Day 2 of my drive back to Brisbane. I have been past Clairview so many times over the last 40 years but was always in a hurry. Today it was time for a break. Missed the northern entry so did these caches the other way around. Last cache for my mini rest stop and the one that proved to be the most difficult. For some reason my mind would not let me look at the obvious feature until all other spots had been exhausted. But got there eventually.

Heading north today to catch up with Liz and Bruce.
Always trying to find a number of caches along the way and we achieved 14 finds and 1 DNF.
Avoided turning blades today.
