Well that was a bit tricky! Having adventured to the waterfall, I thought I’d try this one too. I had the 3 waterfall trail caches, this one, and the top of gully one downloaded on my phone. Unsuccessful at the top of gully one ( that’s not the correct name), I carried on with a clear track. This tool me way off course though! Came to an intersection and down a stream track (clambering over trees etc- did appreciate the ladder though!). I’d read about that ladder but couldn’t remember where! Got to gz and had a big search. Could see evidence of others hunting (I think!) too. I was about to give up as light was dimming and then read some previous posts- mossy corner?! Amazed that I had coverage here, looked this one up, and soon had things in hand. I’ve realised that I’ve missed the mossy corner- hadn’t expected to go that way and didn’t have it downloaded. That’s for another time!
Many thanks - a fantastic adventure! Back at car now- before search party organised

Last find of the day in dying light so had to break out the phone torch. A few candidates took my eye which turned up none but my GPS was to be believed as it was accurate. I disturbed some slugs on top of the cache which was a surprise I'm glad no one was around to hear. Replaced as found with the guardians and now onwards back to the car. Tftc
This was my first stop during a visit to the area this morning. I parked up at the substation, and then headed down the 4WD track nearby which turned out to be the wrong route to take but I managed to get myself into the right area quite easily, down a narrow side-track.
At GZ I found the cache after a few minutes spent looking in a wrong place that fitted the hint perfectly. I was a little confused as to why the cache was in a place that clearly didn't fit the hint, but a short while later I realised that actually it did (see my log for 'Mossy Corner').
There was some water in the container, but I was able to sign the logbook.
Thanks very much for the cache.

With Spring still a couple of weeks away, the last few days have certainly been a swansong for Winter with sub-zero temperatures and rain. But today has been nice and dry, and the sun has tried to makes it's presence felt.
So it was with a spring in my step that I ventured out on my way home to explore a new area for me and try to find this cache. Ever since doing the nearby cache GC4DF1A Tanks for Stopping earlier this year I've been wanting to explore this valley better. I only really scratched the surface today, but I'll be back.
In the meantime, I had a bit of fun getting to this one in my work clothes and flat-soled shoes. No real issues though, and once at GZ the cache was a quick find in the second place I looked. The container had quite a bit of water in it, but then it's been over two and a half years since it was last found. The last claimed find is bogus, insofar as the logbook was not signed (see photo).
The log was in surprisingly good nick considering the water. A little damp, but no problem signing it and replacing it all as found (minus the water). Thanks for bringing me here today

Spent a bit of time looking for this on the way up, but to cold and wet to get too motivated. On the way back down I discovered that there is actually 2 intersections in close proximity and it was a quick find once looking at the right one. TFTC.
Found on a caching trip from the substation to collect the Less Travelled By caches and some of the Pinetops series
Didn't need a GPSr for this one Emptied out a dessertspoon of water and dried with a tissue Log is quite damp but still signed ok Now back up to the substation and home
A very enjoyable afternoon Thanks TrailsTrailsTrails

Find #2969. I needed an adventure that would occupy the mind away from thoughts of going back to work tomorrow so chose this area, having no idea of the extent of the tracks or where they would lead me. Overall is was a very pleasant, although hot, approx 8kms (total ascent 350m) of bush tracks and caching. I say approx because at times, satellite reception was sketchy or non-existent and my tracker sent me off to spots I definitely wasn't at. I used the hints for every cache to be sure of finding them without wasting too much time, although some of them were plainly obvious. Best of all, when I got to near the Silverstream car park, the track along the base of the hill went straight back to Hayward Stream. I had envisaged having to back track the way I had come.
Quick find with the hint as the coordinates were someway off. SL TFTC

Second find of the day for PTS and I as we explored the area. Dry feet are overrated, but my new boots are holding up well. Once we got to the junction, this was another quick find. TFTC, and 764m from the farthest point of our walk today towards the distance part of the DGSC Challenge.
Your right. GPS a bit flaky. Was sure it was here. Emptied the water out. Log slightly damp. Thanks great walk
Walked passed on a whim and found the cache to be intact. A little moisture in the container but a dry logbook. Let the container dry in the sun for 15 minutes. The seal could do with a clean so I'll bring a rag next time.
The track has a few water issues after winter but it's passable. Cheers

After finding "under haywards" I had the choice of heading upstream or downstream. A coin toss had me heading downstream. The track was just muddy enough to make me glad I was wearing boots. A very interesting walk down a nice valley, but with a lot of traffic noise above me up the hill. Found this one nice and quickly, then had the choice of continuing downstream or turning left and heading up a gully. TFTC.
Out for a wander on this beautiful day. Good to explore some of these new tracks in this area and I really enjoyed the walk and variety of bush encountered. All in all, a very pleasant wander in the company of Yeetrees.

Ambled along the track to get this one before heading up the Gully to Mossy Corner. TFTC
I had passed by the entrance on SH2 when I had parked and grabbed the Fantail. It was when I was heading back that I noticed the existence of these tracks and when I pulled up the app I saw that this cache was not too far away. I hadn't prepared myself for track/hill trekking but the appearance of "bottom of the gully" appealed to me so I headed on up. Got to the stream crossing and despite attempting to make the crossing with dry feet I ended up getting a bit of water in my boot (luckily I had my walking boots on).
Carrying on up I noticed that there must have been someone through earlier today as the dew on the grass had been disturbed. It was when I got to the cache itself I discovered that boxhill had made his mark. I signed the log and replaced and did consider following boxhill up but it would have been a steep climb no matter which way I went and I had other caches I was targeting so I headed back down, getting another dunking of water in my boot.
Looking forward to tackling the other caches in the park. TFTC

Cyclone Cook came through last night. It wasn't too bad in Lower Hutt but the Hutt River is up and the stream near the cache is flowing well too.
My wife and I brought the whole family here. Dexter the Border Collie came along as well. The kids had a great time crossing the stream and playing in the mud.
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry inside.
Thank you

This was my first visit to this area and I liked what I saw. Pretty much an instant find here.
On a mission around the Keith George Memorial Park/Haywards area on a rainy Saturday.
Took a couple of minutes to find due to a few options for the hint object but got it in the end.

Last one for today, heading back to the car to get some dry footwear! Quick find, GPS took me straight there.

Left the car in the park near the Silverstream rail and rail and bridges, crossed over and walked up the true right river trail, through the storm drain under SH2 and then wandered south along the excellent tracks. We need a map of the trails to get a better grip of what is there. TFTC
First find of the day with LCBuilder and the geodogs. Easy find, all good here, TFTC
Arrived at GZ after starting at the Silverstream end of the loop track then by way of the mossy corner and down the pine gully trail. Soon had the cache in hand after a small search. All in good order so replaced as found.
Quick stop-off whilst out walking. Checked the cache and it's as originally placed. Thanks for looking after this hide everyone!
Selesi and I initially walked past this one, then spotted. Thanks for bringing us to this area (and pleased most of the walking under bush as a hot day). TFTC
Cache # 3,057 - A nice morning for a walk. Disappointed that I am back to caching in the dark in the early morning, as the sun still hadn't risen by the time I returned to my car at 6:20, so thankful I have several working torches in the car. Of course that makes the trek to caches a bit longer, being more careful with footing. Fortunately an easy walk in from the Fantail sculpture this morning, and figured it was only worth going to the first cache for my cache of the day. Looking at the trail continuing on up to the lookout I am glad I hadn't set my mind on that one, as it is much less formed and needs proper outdoor clothing rather than the business attire I was in today. Easy find of the cache itself, even in the dark, but disappointed to see no trackable in there as listed on the page. Another nice cache in the this nice set of new tracks. TNLNSL. TFTC!

#1914 and day 151 in a row. Thanks for my dot day cache on an otherwise busy day. Found during another evening stroll with wb1117 on a lovely Upper Hutt night.
Thanks for the smilie and adding to me tally.

Great to have a reason to be exploring this part of the valley. I applaud the work of Brian Melbye who has opened up this area by establishing tracks and placing signage. Much enjoyed my visit to the area. And, because the area is mostly undiscovered, we encountered no other walkers throughout the time we were there.
This was a straightforward find, true to coordinates and description; log signed, cache safely re-hidden, just as found.
+ TB
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

Came for a walk with Mrs agcnz this afternoon to find some of the caches along here. Stopped by the information board and walked up from there - cache was a quick find in a pleasant spot. Signed log, TFTC
Ist cache of a long afternoon up in the hills. Suffering (or trying to recover from) a chest infection, so struggling a bit with the fitness, but definitely enjoyed my day out.
Fascinating to explore these tracks as I had never been on them before - very surprising.

Last one on our tour of the area today. Been a great trip, and met two other caches (gpetone) here. Our thanks to Brian the local legend, and to trails x 3 for bringing us to this most interesting area. All caches in good condition . TFTC
Easily found with no GPS required. We had come down from Haywards (via Under Haywards) before making our way to The Fantail and then on to the rest of the Pinetops caches.
We went up the Pole track which was the correct route but at the top we turned right onto the main track. This is a very good track but it is not Pinetops. For that we should have turned left, the Pinetops track can then be found on the right within 100m. The good news is that if you go down the main track you can make a loop up the Melbye Creek Zigzag.
Dropped off a TB with an interesting mission.

Tftc Dobby and I love these tracks and have walked them for many years now and are very happy to see the new tracks being created by Brian. it used to be we could walk them and not see another person but is now happily becoming more utilised especially by a couple of keen MTN bikers who manage amazing feats on these windy steep paths. I bumped into Pukeko and Mr and Mrs Huhugrub out collecting their FTF today. so I can only claim a 2TF
Yay another FTF with Huhugrub. This is a great track. Well sign posted. Now that I know it's here and so close to home I can visit more often. So pleased I decided to come out. Good sized containers too.
#7477. Joint {FTF} @ 10:08 with pukeho1 and first day find. We parked off Haywards Hill Road on Old Haywards Road. As we were about to set off, pukeho1 arrived and it was good to have the good walk round Keith George Memorial Park together this morning. It was our first time to walk these nice tracks in Haywards. GZ was all quiet when we visited. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside.
