Thanks for a great multi

It was a couple of weeks ago that a decision was made to head down to Bacchus Marsh for the weekend. This meant, of course, that while I was here, I would try and get out and do some caching. My plan for today was to spend it in, and around, the Bacchus area targeting a few specific caches that would fill some of my empty Jasmer spots; meet challenge criteria; and be in new LGAs; along with a few random caches in between. Aside from finding all the target caches that I was after, I was able to find a few in between that were quite unique in their creation and definitely worth the favourite points. This made for a very enjoyable day of caching in an area I would hope to return to sometime in the futured. Apologies for the generic log as I have quite a few to write following this trip.Find #9749, at 12:18 pmTFTC Smile

Driving through the richer end of Melton as we approached the first stage of this multi cache. I was impressed and surprised by the house sizes. This cache taught me new lessons on the history of Melton and aviation in Australia. A pleasant walk to the cache after Grub62 had completed the calculations. Thanks for the lessons and the entertainment, and TFTC.

I was on a mission today to collect some older placed caches. This was the first cache for today for bunadoorian and myself. After reading the information I did the required calculations and went and found the runway. bunadoorian found the cache first. TFTC and for bringing us here to this park- maccamob. I don't think this park was here when we lived in Melton - I think this area was farming land - how Melton has changed over the years.

Found with the two most travelled HOBARTARIANS in SSRAT AND GOOSE.Terrible log from me sorry as i always log it having forgotten the ACTUAL cache, just going off a list. This was Ballarat 'plus some' run with the boys, plenty of laughs, coffes and ciders had by all.

The first GC cache of the trip and a good start too with it being an oldie and goodieSometime ago myself and gooseandegg had looked at the idea of doing one of the GeoTours in Australia but due to finders losing the attributes and maybe even the souvenir I wasn't about to go out of my way to search out a GeoTour, upon hearing that finders would retain the attributes and souvenir for the Ballarat GeoTour this changed things and plans were made to head specially to the Ballarat area.We flew out of Hobart on Thursday night after work and after a night staying near the airport we were picked up early by honorary Tasmanian 1Toolman, we spent the next two days searching out all the GeoTour and some choice old or special geocache in and around Ballarat, on Sunday morning we just had time to call at GemmaSistemas event out at Miners Rest before turning tail and dashing for the airport to get on my first ever Rex flight back to Hobart, even landing early at 1307.Found on 26/01/2024 at 10:14:00 thanks to maccamob for placing this cache for me to find. Peppa had a plan, so BM75 and I have joined him on a boys trip to chase the Ballarat geotour. Along the way we have to collect LGAs and oldies and anything else we stumble over. After working out the numbers it was a short walk to GZ and the cache was located. Tftc maccamobFind #5160

Find # 12954

Out on International Geocaching Day.
Following the trail of events across the state.
5am start for me let's see what time I get home.
A lot planned as I'm hunting down 11 GC icons along the days travels.

Seeing as I was this far from home (chasing a virtual icon) I decided to do a short detour for this old multi.

With numbers sorted it was a quick grab at GZ.

Interesting piece of history.

I note that the sign did not mention there is a suburb in Adelaide called Melrose Park. Dad’s house was here and a mate lives in the suburb. Again, lots of history. Jimmy did well. Respect.

Found on a trip to Mexico City from the town north of the border….

Thanks maccamob and clear skies from TeamAstro. ️ Cache the planet!

Needed a fix after the Rutherglen Mega, what better one to find but this placed so long ago by one of my favorite caching teams! Great story that ogre read before, but only because the cache brought me here. Thanks so much for placing this cache

Solved the multi and got to GZ nearby, where the cache was quickly spotted and the log signed. Glad to have marked such an old one.

Melting in the sun too! When I saw the origins and year of publication I made a beeline! Nice to be following a water course and see some remnant bush land. Returning to home base in the NE via circuitous route as I’m on a mighty large LGA mission so it’s Melton here I come today. It’s been hugely interesting to be in the flat country and witness the urban expansion. TFTC and the FUN - glad I came! A fave for longevity!

28-Dec-22
The mission: 12 different cache types in 1 day. Whereigo, CITO, Locationless, Trad, Earthcache, Letterbox, Community Celebration, AdLab, Virtual, Multi, Event & Mystery
The route: You Yangs > Melton > Geelong.
Why: Because I can. But probably not for much longer once celebration events and location-less are done.
Mission Status: Successful.

This cache: After a DNF at a nearby multi, I revised the plan and headed over here. Had I realised earlier this was a circa 20 year old cache it would’ve been my first option anyway! At the posted coords I gathered what I needed, punched away at some rudimentary maths in my notes and had a solid looking GZ sorted. Off I ventured and was rewarded for paying attention (at times) during my schooling years with a well concealed container with a logbook begging to be stamped. While venturing back to the car I contemplated the fact that I was a mere 20yo when this cache was hidden. Which then lead to contemplation of the fact that I am most definitely not 20yo any more. Something I was well reminded of earlier chasing a high(ish) terrain cache belonging to the tritonz.

A lovely little spot to visit, and a perfect example of how to utilise a multi cache for a purpose. Thanks for placing it and keeping it going for all these years!

*Cache find # 13211.*

As this is an oldie, I have been wanting to find this one for some time now but when I am in this area most of the time I am on my way through and have no time to stop so today I decided that I would make time and stop of at this one.
This is an interesting piece of history that I didn't know about but I do now.
The info was gathered and the numbers were put together to give me a new location to check out, once there I started to look around and a few minutes later I had discovered the hide, the log was signed and I was on my way.

**Thanks to maccamob for placing this cache.**

Taking a muggle friend on her first geocaching expiriance we arrived at gz and collected the information we needed before jumping back in the car to keep warm while we solved. Very quickly we realised we missed some information and I jumped out of the car to collect it and finish the solve.
With Gz coordinates found we made out way to a quick find.

Disabled for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis. Although exercise is ok, beaches, parks etc are gradually being closed, and we are being asked to stay home. The virus can be transmitted by surface contact, so please don't take the chances. Geocaching is a game, and we are dealing with a serious Public Health issue, so we need to get our priorities in order. Please stay at home!
We believe the responsible thing is to disable all our caches, until this crisis passes.
Thanks.

I must confess, I'd never heard about this Australian hero whose feats and tragic crash had resulted in a state funeral - something so rare for someone so young.
Heymissjo and I were brought here on a mission to pick up some westerly LGAs, and this was our target for Melton. We had a brief hiccup in our calculations, but then what multi doesn't cause one?! And then we headed in search of the treasure. That went super smooth. Well, aside from thinking that there was something dead next to the cache, but fortunately that was merely an optical illusion, lol.
Loved the effective camo on this container. The cache and contents were found in perfect order, and we added our names to the list of finders.
Thanks, maccamob, for this interesting slice of local history and a very enjoyable visit.

We really enjoyed this multi as we learnt about a pioneering aviator that we had never known about. Data collection was straightforward. Working just outside Melton this afternoon and this was a no brainer to help me maintain my streak for today. One of my targets for some time now has been "pre-2006" caches and this one qualifies in a big way.
After working my way through the bitter sweet story and gathering the clues, I calculated the GZ and headed off. Arriving at the GZ and making a quick find of a well maintained cache I discovered that I also gained a small amount of unloved time as well.

This was my first stop on a road trip, to find Ausmer caches and visiting cemeteries for the Premier challenge.
I like multis like this because I get to learn something as well - never heard of Jimmy until now. Luckily I knew the spelling mistake (but my knowledge is slipping in these days of autocorrect) and was soon at GZ. So many hiding places, but I eventually found it, thanks!

11-Jun-17
The story behind this cache interested us so it stayed on our limited list, even though we had found this particular month yesterday- plus it was one of your hides!
We worked out all the details easily except the spelling mistake. We read it over and over and then it twigged! We put the numbers together and were happy with the coordinates we created so off we toddled to see if we were correct. The GPS had us a few metres away (i will rework the numbers to check later) but I spotted a likely hide from there and moved across to it and soon had the little cache out. Woo Hoo!

THE REPETITIVE BIT
We had planned a weekend in Sydney but the forecast was for rain. With Melbourne looking clear we changed our minds at 8.30pm Friday and came over on the 6.10am flight Saturday. Our aim was to fill in a few ‘placed months’. We picked up our first one in the suburbs then worked our way down to Sorrento, across to Queenscliff on the ferry and up to Sanctuary Lakes for the night. Sunday saw us start off at Point Cook before heading west almost to Ballarat, then across to Gisborne and back to the airport for our Sunday night flight home. 600km and 36 hours later we had achieved our goal, adding 13 placed months to our stats.

Thanks for a second multi today maccamob. Multis are always good fun.

In Melton today to attend the local Intervening Event to catch up with our caching buddies in this festive time. After saying our farewells it was off to grab some caches in between the annoying rain. The maccamob multi was spotted as we made a geoprinter list yesterday, so was quickly added to the list of must do's. With a few photos taken of the information board the clues were worked out in the car to keep out of the persistent drizzle before we headed off to what we hoped was GZ. The terrain tricked us at first but with MrT on hand he was able to do the search and find as I watched on. Unfortunately the grass is very long at the moment , so care was taken to avoid slithery creatures.
Thanks maccamob for another well set out multi that has left us more informed than before we started. Always love the history we learn from caching.

29-Mar-15
This cache was our meeting place for our days activities. I arrived first and started to collect the required information. I was stuck on the spelling question and had to wait for SirJ-Oz to arrive to help me out. We then calculated some plausible co-ords and waited for Sharkiefan to arrive before we headed off for the hunt. Whilst hunting we were disturbed by some nobs on some trail bikes. We hunted around and I made the find at around 9:43am. Whilst reading the cache page and looking at the photos on the board, I was so surprised about how young the pilots were back in the olden days!

Sharkiefan, SirJ-Oz and I headed out to collect as many multi caches around Bacchus Marsh and Melton. We had a list, and a plan that I put together to help me complete my Multi March challenge. Thanks for the cache maccamob. This is my #17 multi for Multi March

29-Mar-15
Find #1775. Found @ 09:40 with LouiseAnn and sharkiefan.

The plan for today was to Melton, Bacchus Marsh, Sunbury and surrounding areas and strip mine them for their luscious multi-cache booty as part of our Multi-March adventure. This was find 1 of 35 for the day, with only 2 DNF over 13 hours. Multi find #21 of my Multi-March adventure.

LouiseAnn and I calculated the coordinates while we waited for sharkiefan to arrive. Once we were a trio, we set forth to GZ.
Once there, LouiseAnn made the find, it must have been because sharkiefan and I were dazzled by her sparkly fingernails (I said I'd mention them in my log). For almost the entire time we were in the area, we were buzzed by two fools on dirtbikes racing up and down the paths. I feel sorry for the locals having to put up with that idoicy.

Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the cache maccamob

I've been slowly ticking off some of the Melton caches on my infrequent visits through this part of the world but I didn't realise there was such a long standing cache here. Knowing I was coming through the area I had looked for likely finds and when I spotted this one from the early 2000's I made this my priority. An interesting little spot and piece of history to preserve in the middle of suburbia and my second piece of local aviation history I had been shown from caching in the last month after finding a Houdini related cache near Woodend as well. It's hard to fathom the sort of fame he must have had to get over 100,000 people attend his funeral after such a short life and career. I'd never heard anything about him unfortunately but I'm glad you brought me here to find out. Thanks for the cache maccamob and maintaining it over such a period of time.

Was out shopping with my Mum and Brother today so we decided to find a few caches.
This one was a pretty easy find, we all did the sum separately so later we could compare coords and make sure we had the right place, short walk to the cache and then Mum manged to find it in the place I'd looked only a minute before, nice camo! In good condition, TFTC!

Out on a day/night of caching with Geordiefamily around Melton to add smileys to the map.
It was a surprise to see such a memorial in the middle of a housing estate, respect to the early pioneers of the past.
After completing the coords we set off to find the hanger but after an extensive search we could not find it so as we walked back to the car to redo our sums a gentlemen walked past and asked if we had found it, he was talking about the crash site not the cache.
With the coords redone we went back to GZ, this time with torches Geordiefamily found the hide.
Thanks for the Cache maccamob

Reading about the tragic history, it was quite sad to read that such a talented and ambitious man passed away so young.
We set about gathering the numbers and after calculating a likely looking final destination we set off. A lovely location awaited us, as did an effectively camoed container. It does blend in quite well and shows no sign of wearing away!
Thanks to maccamob for highlighting the interesting history and for the cache.

I like finding places like this that commemorate an event and people. This was a pioneering time period and so often those 'pioneers' were very young. After getting the numbers for GZ and wandering off to find the cache I commented to Square Pegs that I like maccamob caches because they often have this link to history and I wonder how they know all this stuff? We got down to the business of finding the cache and discovered it's nicely camo'd and in good condition. Thanks maccamob - good to find another 2002 cache.

Found @16:32 #3394
Having attended the Intervening Days VI event, myself and Ahomburg tackle the remaining urban caches around and South of Melton this afternoon.

It took two goes at doing the numbers as we found a second spelling mistake which we used instead of the first one. The hint help in ensuring we were correct. So it was off to GZ for a brief search and then success at last.Big Grin Nice work done on the container am impressed. This was the last cache found today. An interesting location and history too. Thanks for bringing me here today.

Time: 4:35pm
Find # 3488
Streak: 149 days

I was out and about today with my caching mate SedgwickDave. The main mission was to attend the Intervening Days VI event and also to find as many caches North of the Western Freeway (M8) as possible.

This was quite an interesting multi. I had looked at it the night before and tagged it as a must do. I had taken a guess at one of the answers on reading the listing. We arrived at GZ and gathered all the required numbers to work out where GZ was going to be. we took the walk to GZ and realised GZ was in private property. Where had we gone wrong? went back through the numbers and it was actually the number I had guessed the night before was correct and the one we gathered today was wrong..... Anyway, off to GZ #2, and not long after, the cache was in hands.

Thanks to maccamob for the cache, a wonderful finish to the day. TNLN

I'd decided ages ago that the oldest cache in the state would be my 2000th find, and as the number approached, the seeds of a challenge germinated: find a sequence of hides placed in the years 2000 to 2013.

This placed year was always going to be the trickiest to grab, as there aren't many remaining caches that were published in '02, and most of them are multis, a decent distance from home, or both. Settling on the two best close candidates, I chose Sparkky's first, and drove off yesterday to collect some numbers. Now, I dunno if I made a stupid calculation error, or got caught out by one of several ambiguities, but one thing's certain: I ran out of time and came home without a smiley. A shame, really, because it would have covered an empty Jasmer month. I probably should have gone west rather than east in the first place.

Take two... a nice leisurely drive on the freeways to Melton, with half of the answers I needed prefilled courtesy of the Web. Within minutes, I had a workable set of coordinates, and soon afterward, had fished the cache from its hiding place. Once opened, I had a brand new log book to sign.

I've enjoyed the caches in the "Those Magnificent Men" series; they're a fitting tribute to the courage of our early aviators. It also pleases me to include a maccamob hide in my little challenge. Thanks for your many contributions to the caching community.

vacachin found the log from the previous (muggled) cache, some 12m from the present cache, which is safe and sound. We removed the 2010 log book to avoid further confusion.

Ok we think we found it or it could be the old log book, as we came across a very wet log book under lip of a rock, not sure if it was the current cache or not... no container.. signed and left in same place

Cache still safe and sound in its spot. ctone: you must have been very close.

searched under the rocks but could not find, bit of rubbish across the rocks so not sure if it is still there.

Cache replaced in a similar spot. Good to go.

Looks like the cache has gone AWOL. We'll check it out shortly.

Couldn't find this one, I was a bit hesitant going by the previous log and I fell victim to the same fate. I actually found a note pad with multi instructions for this cache and 'To Learn' with some answers filled in, I think the previous bloke left it there by accident and it sat under the big rocks for all that time.

Anyway back to the cache, I looked under rocks big and small, and spread out a fair distance in search for an obvious hiding spot. Nothing jumped out at me, I took 2 photos of the area so that might help the owners to judge the situation.

Looked for quite a while.

This was, cache # 18 of 24 finds for the day, in the company of Trailrunning, we had been chating and texting for some time now regarding caching but never met, so tonight we finally teamed up and went caching, we had a great night with lots of laughs along the way. I had done the original cache, I noted the new location so decided to claim a find. My thanks to maccamob for the cache.

The usual TDC cache grab had been put on hold for a week, so I was looking at doing a solo run when I remembered I had a rain check promise with the legendary RebelActs to go on an evening caching run during the school holidays at some stage in the future. Well tonight was the night. We met at Glen Waverley and were soon moving west to Melton. It’s hard to find locations close to either of us where we haven’t already cleared out the area, so the Melton area was easily accessible and fruitful enough for us both. In all we visited about 33 locations with only two DNF’s, one DNA, and 1 very flat tyre. All in all it was a great night out. I finally got to meet RebelActs after corresponding and talking for such a long time and never actually caching together!

I had calculated some co-ords from home, but required a few numbers to complete this one. After a short walk we had the cache found and log signed. I love multi's that teach you something. Thanks.

I picked this one because I thought it would be quick. I was my own worst enemy with the classic saying "haste makes waste".
A pleasant surprise also to realise as I write this to find its a Maccamob cache.

After 30 mins of clue gathering and rock searching the cache was located. Picked up the tb.
I really like this cache for the history. 22 years old isn't much of a run at life. It made for interesting reading and local history.
Thanks Maccamob for the cache.
Very enjoyable.
Cheers

After I think 6 or 7 visits and some help from the owners found it, Ok new to this whole geocaching thing and now after the express and how it was hidden it became so obvious even though I had gotten the hints from the owners that I had to dig around under rocks, mmmmm not sure about summer time caching but winter is fine lmao, took geocoin and left roo (Julie) travel tag, this is the one that represents my mother and we have four others that are travelling to the US, our goal to have them meet up or travel alone and make it back here to Victoria together, if you find the roo Take a picture with some mates having a bbq and a drink and send her on to travel preferably east around the globe but if you are going some .place interesting bring her with you. Thanks so much I think I'm hooked cheers....

Visited today on a trip to the other side of the city hunting down some caches for the GeosportZ 2012 CachingGames competition. I'd tried to shortcut the field calculations with some prior research which got most of the information, but not enough so I had to do it the hard way in situ as designed... Wink Information gathered and after a false start misunderstanding one question (the mistake lead to an obviously incorrect GZ though) it was soon sorted out and a much more promising GZ location revealed, which soon proved to be the correct one as a quick search uncovered the hiding place. I signed the logbook (the smaller, slightly damp one - I didn't look at the other) and dropped off a geocoin in the hope that it will soon be moved on to the airport - and not suffer the same fate as the pilot which this cache is based upon!...) Love a cache with history that tells a good story.

This is something that follows that to a t.

The calculations were fairly quick.

A short walk to GZ and the cache was found.

Found the first part ok. Pretty sure I had the coords right for the 2nd part. Scambled though the brambles but couldn't find the cache but enjoyed the hunt. Nice to find out about a bit of history on my doorstep that I didn't know about.

Found at 1450 hrs whilst trying to add some smilies around the area!

Nice unambiguous multi! Cool It took a few minutes of searching for me to find the cache...

A nice little bit of Australian history that a lot of people would not be aware of!!

Took: Nothing
Left: Nothing

Thanks to maccamob for bringing me here!

What an epic end to what should have been a simple collection of coords BUT NO - spent far too long in the heat of the day trying to find the spelling mistake. In the end frustrated with the heat I decided to PAF - Help was soon at hand with the required answer.
Such an obvious error and yet I missed it completely Red Face
The coords were swiftly put together and off to GZ where a quick find was made.... nice hide.

Thx maccamob for the hide.

We took colford2 out for an afternoon of geocaching to teach them some ropes. We thought this was a great cache and very interesting history of a young pilot who perished. There is a book out on this young man and his achievments and life. If ever your in Melton and passing the Information Centre call in and see them in regards to the book.
We felt the terrain was a bit more than a 1 but that could be we're not as fit as we used to be.
This cache was low on swaps.

We enjoyed learning about this adventurer and saddened by his untimely death. It was interesting to read about the Adelaide connection too. Found the cache after a short search. Thanks maccamob

Super freezing non-springlike afternoon. Nevertheless the plucky and sharp-eyed lobster6 7 made the very adept find and rescued us from further searching in grim conditions. The story is an amazing one for a backstreet park.
