Junior cachers were halfway up the tree before I pointed out that most caches don't require the agility of a monkey to find Very Happy. What am awesome tree!

26-Dec-21
A bit of a lonely cache, this one. Pleased to find it after a circuit of the tree. TFTC

12-Jul-20
A wee tumble on the way down, dog and Phoenix in a pile! Dog is nimble and human thighs are well covered! Dog is on lead as his ears turn off when his nose turns on. This tree is awesome and the cache well secured. Tftc

#6920. Decided to tackle this loop today to pick up the caches. The weather has been remarkably fine and dry for this time of the year so hoped the track wouldn't be too slippy today. Apart from a few patches it was mostly dry and easy going underfoot. Haven't been up this loop track at all previously. It had a good variety of forest types with patches of tawa, some lovely hard beech forest on the spurs and patches of kamahi scrub higher up on the ridge. The trip did not start well as my GPS had a glitch and refused to pick up satellites. Its happened previously and can last for a few hours. I have no idea what causes it. So had to use my smart phone and Cachly App. Haven't relied on it previously. Not very familiar caching this way counting down the metres and not having a good topo map to look at. But luckily the hints were all nice and descriptive so I was able to compensate for smartphone inaccuracy with the helpful hints. Managed to find all nine caches attempted.

Starting the descent now. Bit slippery across the top track even though it hasn't rained in days. Reached the GZ and yes its a rather prominent tree. Spent too long searching certain areas before deciding to look around for other options. Finally spied something out of place and there was the cache. Signed the logsheet and replaced the cache where found. Thanks TTT for placing it here.

The second day of the school holidays. My wife and I have sorted out a "tag team" plan for this week where I go to work in the morning and she goes to work in the afternoon. I knocked off work at midday and caught the 12.17 pm train to Melling. I was home before 1 pm and my wife headed straight off to work.

In the afternoon I had to drop one of my sons at Naenae Pool for his swim training. It was literally drop and go because I had the other 2 kids in the car. I thought that maybe the kids would like to come up here for a walk, but they didn't and I took them home.

Later, after dinner, I decided to take Dexter the Border Collie and head out for a walk. I still had this spot in my mind so drove a little further than I usually would for a dog walk and came up here for a look around.

It was a nice evening. There were plenty of birds out enjoying the twighlight. Dexter enjoyed playing in the stream on the way out and back. A very interesting tree!

The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.

Thank you

Went for a bit of a walk around the Keith George Memorial Park Loop. Quite a steep climb to the top but a lovely walk. A quick find on the way back down. Everything in order. TFTC

Found this one unlike the two on the way up. Leaves slippery after rain but fun slip sliding around with kids

On the way to this cache there were some moderately alarming creaking noises which sounded like a tree might be about to come down. For some reason a nursery rhyme came to mind - specifically the line "when the bough breaks" - no doubt seeded by the title of this cache. Unusually for a forest cache, the GPS led me to the exact position reading "0m" when I found it.I had to brush aside some rather large cobwebs to get at the cache but thankfully no sign of a possible owner. Thanks for bringing on this enjoyable loop walk.

A bit dim on an overcast day, but I found what I was looking for with the help of the torch on my phone. Very thick matted spider webs! TFTC

Wisely decided to leave the mountain bikes at home today and were glad we did ! Quite a climb up to the top before heading across to this one. Found easily but would have been quicker if I had looked at the picture which didn't download to c:geo.

I've been promising a return visit to this area for a while now. Today the opportunity presented. Nice weather and autumn colours, and very dry under foot. Made the track easier going than what it would be in the wet.
After a visit to a few earlier caches and a bit more climbing we came upon this one. Certainly in the 'big boy' category this tree.
A straightforward find on the cache ensued.

#7624. A good climb to explore more of Moonshine Valley that we had not been to before. The tracks were all quiet at this time. Impressive tree. Quick find, despite the GPS was reading 10 metres away. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

#1613 Just over one and a half hours on my first wander around the Keith George Memorial Loop Track to claim my dot day cache. Love these evening walks.

Dropped a Diabetes travel coin for safe travels.

Thanks for providing another dot day cache in the neighbourhood. Can't wait to do some of the other ones that I passed on future dot days.

I think today is 129 of my streak.

30-Jan-16
Decided to go for a walk in the hills again this afternoon and get most of the remaining caches I need to find here. Found nice and quickly, coordinates were good.. Definitely an impressive tree specimen! Signed log, TFTC.

** FTF **

Wahoo! This wasn't in the plan when I left after lunch for a walk in the hills, but discovering some recent publications within a few hundred metres of exactly where I was meant it was very well worth having a crack at them.

Nice easy find for this one - Great fun!
Felt very lucky today to already have been in the vicinity. Lovely walking in these hills, and nice to be up here in the summer when it's dry because I know how wet and slippery it gets during winter.

TFTC!
