Up here for the mega with Phronimos this one was one of the easier caches we did up here thanks for the placement and the cache
Up early for our last full day of geocaching in the Dunedin area.Having attended the final event we're here to specifically find GCCCFB, and others on the way and nearby. Upon reflection I thought this cache was considerably BETTER than GCCCFB. And there's a cache to find here! Thank you for placing and maintaining your cache.
Finishing up Mega (GEO TOROA) weekend with a handful of caches up waipori way, Ive been up here over four times in just over a month with the DT series but there was never enough time to log these caches so today was that day while there was time T4TC
This is day four of my Dunedin Mega trip (and IS the actual date of the mega, despite some previous logs to the contrary), the first time I've ever been here before (never mind geocaching). Obviously with such a plethora of caches to find there's going to be plenty I'll skip but I hope to find my targets.Unfortunately logging is going to be generic, but thank you to all the cache owners and event organisers for the things you do.Doing a loop with barefootguru, CrystalFairy and GreenGecko. Logs signed as BBCG.All good here, and thank you to cat_e_bear for the placement of your Traditional Cache.Find #7332 at 27 October 2024 3:39pm
Day 4 of my 6 day trip to Dunedin to attend the Mega and clean up all the puzzle caches solved over the last few years.Todays journey took us to the Mega to meet up with a few cachers and then hit the BT81 series before heading back to Dunedin. Thanks for all the puzzles, caches, find, frustration and enjoyment.Spent the day with BFG, Bruzie and GreenGecko1. Logged at combinations of BBGC.Awesome machinery and FP awarded. Reminded me of some equipment used in South Africa many years ago.
Day 3 of our Dunedin Mega visit. Teamed up with gonefishing for a most enjoyable weekend. Some logs were signed with our separate names, some were signed 'Team bogo' to save space. Today we're heading to Lake Mahinerangi. Enjoyed being out in the countryside. Thanks to everyone involved for putting on a great Mega Event, and also to all the local Cache Owners for placing and maintaining all their caches.Cheers and TFTC
Down in Dunedin for the Mega. Great to be back for another Mega 12 years after NZ's first Mega here in 2012. Finding a few caches with Boxhill and having a few laughs on the way. Today signing some logs as Team BOGO or our individual names. Thanks to the team for putting on a great Mega weekend, and also to all the COs for placing and maintaining the caches.TFTC cat_e_bear
Heading south with Heihei, along with most of New Zealands cachers, for the Dunedin Mega.Out for a day of caching with bruzie, CrystalFairy, & GreenGecko1, logs signed as BBCG.Quick find, cool machinery
Way outside my usual area. Took the advice of the locals and skipped the nearby mineshaft due to risk of me bumbling around and coming to an oopsie. Tftc.
My lovely SO offered to take me out for a drive somewhere so I said how about over to Lake Mahinerangi, haven't been that way for years - he didn't need to guess my geocaching ulterior motive.
Very wet underfoot here. Interesting info sign - hadn't known there was goldmining done in this area until looking at the descriptions of the geocaches around here. Lots of good hiding places at GZ, didn't take too long to find the right one though. Tftc.

A short detour on the way home today took us to this one. The structure is impressive, and the cache is in good condition. Thanks for placing this.
#10,444. I did a bit of a diversion on my way to Invercargill from Dunedin. Yes its the road less travelled to reach that wondrous southern centre of hospitality and sophistication. The lure of some challenge caches and a virtual or 2 pulled me away from the mainstream. After scrambling around in the dense tussock, bracken, scrub and spaniards looking for old mining relics at nearby caches I was very pleased to see this one was a family friendly walk through open grass to a feature that is still well preserved. The cache was quickly located in its hidey hole. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks cat_e_bear for hiding it here.
Been here before but great to return on a sunny day and pick up a cache. Fave from me.
Easy find at a place I didn’t know existed. Nice that’s easily accessible. Tftc
On a trip around this region for the day, a friend brought us to see this incredible relic from the gold mining days. My geocache map indicated there was a cache here, but with no signal I wasn't able to read any hints. Nevertheless a quick scout around and the cache was soon in hand. Well worth visiting. TFTC.
Cool cache brought me down a hill I probably wouldn’t have otherwise bothered with.
day out with raylnz, first time in this area for about 40 years. tftc. Much easier to get too than the mine shaft cache.
Am visiting Dunedin and spending a day geocaching in areas of my childhood and student days is looking like becoming an annual event. Out with gdkja. Another eating place to visit. All good here. Tftc
After nearly being blown away up at the top of the hill, it was lovely to be down out of the wind. We parked up here and had morning tea. The cache was easily found, and it was interesting reading the history of this area. TFTC
I'd love to see the battery actually working, it must have been a sight back in the day. Found with dakotacats, thanks for the cache.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 8 of our extended Easter break, today we are travelling from Clyde to Dunedin via Lake Mahinerangi on a beautiful Anzac day.
Nice to have a trail to the battery and some information. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.

Had to come check out the Canton Battery while in the area. A quick snag and tag after checking out the great info board. Enjoyed visiting here. Cheers. Fav from me.
Its Wednesday 24 April and we are off exploring Milburn, Lawrence and Lake Mahinerangi today. Awesome!!
Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

Love these old gold mining sites. Well, anything old. I love caches that talk about hstory. The stamper is still in pretty good condition considering its age Gets a favourite.
Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

A quick and easy find after a small walk. We carried on down this road and was a bit surprised were we came out. Cheers
Easter holidays, and a road trip to Milford Sound. Today we drove from Dunedin to Invercargill with lovely weather most of the day till we reached the south coast.
Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

Thought this one would be the last for the night but we still manged a few more after this one. Interesting area. TFTC cat_e_bear
WhTs not to love about a caching trip combined with downsouthinv having to deliver parts for work.
Any excuse is a good one, and time to head off the main road into the wilderness to find us some caches.

At last, a free weekend before the onset of chaos. An early morning phone call...'are you able to take xyz up north to a customer?''
There was no excuse not to, quickly chucked clothes on dragged her outta bed raced into work, got parts, and on the road before 8am.
As we drove, the voice from the passenger seat, piped up and said ' look at all these, aren't we going near here?'
Oooh Goody!! Now it's a fun work trip, might be a long day!!!
A nice walk to pick this one up.
On a beautiful day

Out for a Sunday drive to a spot that has been on the explore list for some time. Was a bit muddy on approach but glad not to have to bush walk and bash like the last two caches! Nice quick find. TFTC
A nice easy one with an easy walk to the GZ. A quick look around and it was in hand. Signed and off to the next one. TFTC
Found it with the Chosens and pjjob on our weekend relaxing at lake mahinarangi.
Parked, walked and grabbed for another find on our weekend at Mahinerangi, with pjjob and granville

Found with TregearP on a visit back up through the Waipori Gorge. We mountain biked through here in one of the Gold Fields Classic events in the early 2000's.
A little less arduous in a car this time - but very hot in the current heat wave.
All in good order. Signed log and replaced as found.
Thanks for the cache.

Out for a picnic and day trip. Stopped at the battery as it was of interest to himself. I wandered along and observed a slight inconsistency and voila!! No idea that a GC was hidden here.
Great day out caching in the area, lot of neat caches, and interesting spots. Many Thanks Bitsprayer
We'd been here on caching business a few years ago and it's nice to revisit for another quick find. Found with AorakiSheep
After an early start this morning and then a flight from Auckland we were really looking forward to a weekend of caching in our old stomping ground.
Interesting history around this area TFTC.

Good historic cache site. Did an extraction job on the cache and rehid it a little more accessible. Photos and video. Fav. TFTC
It was an awkward job trying to extract the cache container which had been shoved well into the structure and was very wet.Enjoyed visiting the battery which is a great historical site. Thanks for the cache cat_e_bear Pipedream
After tackling the other two nearby caches in the park access to this one was a walk in the park. All nice and dry.
I parked on the road, and as it was dark and headed straight for the coordinates, completely missing that there was a path a bit further up. Jumped the stream only to find a few steps on that the grass was floating on the swamp, so ended up thigh deep in the water! FInally made it to the cache.
I'm on a 5 day caching trip in the south island. Have a few aims - right now its to up a few specific caches that I need to complete my grid for a challenge - and find some interesting caches on the way 1800km later I can say I've accomplished my aim!

An Easter Saturday tour of Lake Mahinerangi with Mrs D Senior & Co. Visited the last cache here a while ago. A nice sized cache container, but it's rather disappointing that there isn't any information about the battery given on the cache page. Picked up [TB Ours Canada ](https://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?guid=1942ca87-0bbc-45c5-9d0c-9f48173fa6f0)
What an incredibly interesting area - so rich with history. Its a pity the old trails have become so overgrown but I'm sure they will be opened up at some point in the future as a cycleway. The battery is so neat and makes quite an impact on approach. It was interesting to see the similar but restored one in town later. TFTC #9939
Amazing to see these old information boards out in the middle of nowhere. What a shame they haven't been maintained as the history is fascinating. TFTC and fir bringing us here. In TB
A fairly quick find on a rather damp morning. We had found the previous cache in this location some years ago. TFTC
After finding OPQ Battery, this was an easy find. It was good to see the remains of the battery still there.
+ a marble, - nothing.

Making our way towards Gabriel's Gully. Really enjoyed this leg of our trip.
Was grateful to have tmann421 along so he could explain all these amazing old relics to me.

Seeing that I was out this way visiting the virtual cache down the road it would have been rude not to do this one.
Cheers for the cache.

Definitely been a cache here before. It may even have been in the same hiding place! TFTC.
I've been here before. I don't have a clear memory of it, but I assume it was for a cache (?) or maybe I just investigated when I was here for the nearby virtual cache? I carried on to Lawrence for a round trip. Thanks muchly.

In the area for a day on the lake and I managed to hop ashore and go for a spin to nab a few.
Found the container with ease opened it up and thought there was no log!
Rummaged through the go bag for a replacement then spotted the small log under one of the badges.
A notebook may have been more suitable for the cache size, but hey ho.
Nice spot although it was a terrible day, driving rain and very low cloud.
