Our final cache for the evening before calling it a day. Nice spot to chill and look up at the stars and enjoy the peace with the sound of the running water. TFTC
this is such a cool location for a cache! we found it and the kids made friends with the local eels
Day 1 of 4 staying over Easter weekend, and found 6 caches this afternoon. With miniAG. Boys feeding the eels took no notice of us. TFTC

I like the way the road has been used like a dam to make a freshwater lake, nicely done and the water looks clear as! If the sun had been much hotter, I think I might have been tempted to have a swim. No worries with the hide here either, love a good size cache so as not to slow me down searching.
Mister 6 says it was a 'hard spot' and that he didn't need to crouch. Thanks!!
We made quick work of the cache then all enjoyed spending some time with the eels. There was even the cutest little baby. Like many of the others in the park - the container was wet inside. TFTC.
The eel trough was a bit yuk, luckily didn't have to spend too long near it. A nice hide.
A nice quick find thanks. The eel trough was a bit yuck, hopefully the eels like it that way
Time for another trip to the North Island for Ms_KR and me. Wellington and beyond here we come. Today we toured around north of Waiuku up to the southern heads of the Manukau harbour. It is a hot summer so far!
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

First time at Awhitu - wow! Just wow. Stunning. There is a lot to see here. TFTC!
B4Dawn and I had made plans to adventure in the general Awhitu area to walk and clear out some caches but then the rain set in....ah we don't mind that lets go anyway...just pack the waterproof clothes and jackets!! There were periods it was quite clear and others with really bad wind and rain that made us question what the hell we were doing out but as always it was an adventure and of course some smiley faces to be had.
By now B4Dawns phone was complaining of water damage from the rain so we were working off my GPS. Once again we were drawn to the wrong side of the path first before spying a likely specimen across the road which was much more suitable. I spotted the cache from one side and B4Dawn nipped in from the other which had easier access to grab it.
Didn't see any eels today though.
Thanks for the cache.

Spent an excellent day with Keylev. Super wet day, soggy hiking boots but a boat load of caches to show for it!
I didn't notice the eels but kept the eye on the ball on this one. TFTC

Eels are gross. Two kids fishing for them, pulled in a couple of the slimy suckers
Nice and easy find here and interested to see a couple of eels feeding off a dead pukeko floating in the water. All good and replaced as found.
Well, Easter is here and a Good Friday trip out proved to be a good Friday for a trip out. We headed up to Manakau Heads lighthouse then looped back via Awhitu Regional Park and then snaffled up the two Crayolas that I never found when I last headed out to this area 6 months ago. Not a huge number of finds, but some new scenery was found and enjoyed and some usual suspect COs caches too. Thanks to all COs and to the region for turning on a warm day, again!

Out on a geocaching trip. Staying at Awhitu Regional Park. Thanks for hiding Stik-a-crane
Today was the day Team G0LD (Geocachers 0B80B8, Lis's crew and DaffyNZ) finally got to collect the crayola puzzles. As Pete said we'd planned this trip ages ago but covid-19 got in the way.
I left my sons in Whangarei at 5am and got back home to Paihia at 11pm. It was a long day but I really enjoyed it. We found all the crayola series, a few trads near them, a few other solved puzzles. In the middle of the series we headed up to Awhitu Regional park to get a cache that required low tide. Along the way we even managed two FTF's giving us a total of just over 100 for the day.
This was another cache we collected on the loop while we waited for the tide to drop. A quick easy find here. No eels here. My kids had a teacher at school one year who was very interested in eels and they learnt all about them that year. Thanks for the caches around this reserve

Off on a mission today with Team G0LD ( Geocachers 0B8, Lis & Daffy ) to finally do the Crayola 64 series. The puzzles had been solved ages ago, but due to two Covid forced delays, it was only now we could coordinate schedules and head south from Whangarei to make the finds.
Part way through the 64 series, we decided to make a dash for Awhitu, to collect as many of the trads and bonus puzzles up here as possible. The tide was also supposed to be low around 2:30 and we should also be able to walk out to the island too. However, when we arrived there was still 100 metres of water surrounding the island, so we decided on doing the park walk first.
A nice quick find here on our walk. TFTC

Out with Team Gold (Liz Crew and 0B80B8) picking up as many caches as possible in the South Auckland area. After picking up a bunch of Crayola puzzle caches we decided to head up South Head and collect the series at Awhiti. Soon located by the hint item and had the log signed. TFTC
Doing my bit to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Keep well, Keep safe.
See you on the other side.

The two youngest davidsonclan children and dad have come camping for the night at Awhitu what a lovely spot quiet exploring the tracks now.Tftc quick find this morning.
Located this one on the walks around the Leap Year Campout Event. Enjoyable walk with FMG & Helephant, no problem with the find TFTC.
Eels eating bread, at the lake edge. Then we went looking for the cache. Fun find with rustynz and cachers from Thailand
Great to grab a few caches in the park on the way to the leap year event. Grabbed this one with other local cachers. Thanks CO for the cache.
Out picking up caches after the Leap Year Campout 2020 event. Our geosenses took us straight to this one. Thanks Stik-a-crane.
Had a fun weekend camping out down here at Awhitu and took the opportunity to rack up some Feb 29 finds with a bunch of nice cache hides around the regional park, some with small groups from the campout and others by myself while riding around the park on my eBike. Great weather and great company, including the CO for a short while also. Found this one in the logical spot, but on the other side of the road than where my phone was pointing - seemed a few had this same problem today. An easy find nonetheless. TFTC!!!

We were driving back into the park and there was a group here, so pulled up said hello and they let me put my name on the log before it was replaced, TFTC
Again very slowly making our way to the Leap Year Campout Event
We drove, but gely57 walked! (no room in the car, we have so much stuff LOL)
At GZ muggles where feeding the eels some tasty bread (well it must have been tasty as the eels gathered for some kai!)
Time to look for the cache, but whilst mr gely57 was on one side, I think it was mrs gely57 who found it on the other side of the road.
Happy to find this one, thanks for the hide Stik-a-crane

Found with IuryBR and Line_Moh during the Leap Year 2020 camp event in Auckland. Easy find, and nice to see the ducks getting fed here rather than eels!
Found this one during the event Leap Year Campout 2020 Auckland - GC8HQ7K, VibhaHB was very quick this time, while I was thinking on how to find it without calling the Muggles' attention, she already had the container opened. Easy peasy ay? Didn't see any Eel

Found it despite a few muggle kids hanging around the eels! Bit of a reach indeed but apart from that nice easy find. TFTC!
The cache was on the ground out in the open so returned it to its most obvious spot according to the hint. TFTC
Didn't see any eels today, but it was a nice easy cache kn our way back to the car. TFTC
Day one of a weekend in Auckland with my wife. She loves to geocache, I keep her company.
Eels don't seem to like banana. They are such interesting creatures.
JDScout had a conference in Auckland for part of the week so I met up with hem on Friday night. Hopefully we will find a few geocaches on this trip as I haven't got many left to find in Christchurch.
Thanks Stik-a-crane for placing this geocache find for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.

Plenty of people around this part spotting the eels.We enjoyed spotting them and then made a nice quick find once everyone had gone.
Find number 4702. A couple of cars that had interrupted my search at cattle stop were parked here feeding the eels. Watched them for a while before heading across to make the find. Thank you for the placement.
