Time to go.

After spending most of the day in the hot sun at a sporting event up north, I thought I should make use of the long evening to pick up a few caches in the Puketi area before heading home.

After a nice walk around the loop walkway, it was back on the road and this cache was a nice quick find here. TFTC

Didn’t want to head straight back to my motel room after work so tried these 4 caches. Herd of cows was very interested in what I was doing. Cache all good. TFTC

NZ is back at level 2 so we can go geocaching again. Please wash your hands and stay safe. Happy caching!

25-Mar-20
IMPORTANT: Due to New Zealand's recent State of Emergency declaration and a nationwide lockdown due to commence at 11.59pm Wednesday 25 March, this geocache is disabled until further notice. Logs from now until the lockdown is officially lifted will be deleted. While geocaching is a fantastic was to get physical exercise and support good mental health, there is risk of spreading the virus by many people handling a geocache. Not worth the risk. Stay home and solve a puzzle instead! Kia kaha. Be kind. Stay home. Wash your hands.

Another easy find

Replaced the log bag as it was split. Cache safe and dry and waiting for more visitors. Unfortunately my nearby caches are being retired because of kauri dieback risk but I’ll leave this one. Happy caching!

Nice find with woolwood9 today.
*We enjoyed the drive / walk around the area.*
Stamped logs as tm/ww NZ which may just look like a black smudge on plastic logs!
TFTC

*We didn't do any walking here, was a bit too far for us today. Just this cache then back through the cross roads for some more*

We're staying around the corner at Puketi Hut, and drove down here today for a family walk around Waihoanga Gorge Kauri Walk. Spotted a likely place for this one as soon as we pulled up, and I was right. Thanks!

10:43 AM We are from Dallas, Texas, with our alumni travel group, the Traveling Aggies of Texas A&M University, on a cruise from Sydney to Auckland.

Day 14, in Bay of Islands, New Zealand. We are on a guided nature hike in the Puketi forest. Grabbing a cache or two along the way.

This was our first cache at the entrance of the Waihoanga Gorge Kauri Trail. Our guide knew most of the cache locations, having seen them by flashlight during night tours. Our companion hiker Tessa may register and take up geocaching, so I signed her in, as well.

Nicely hidden.

We signed the log. Thanks, Skaga, for the cache.

I spotted sign of Puketi on the road at last night. A book guide helped us decide to visit this original forest. So far we are heading for a small Kauri circuit. The cache was frightened me a little. Kačenka made fun and brought me to look at those branches properly Surprised.

Thanks for the cache.

Včera večer jsem zahlédl na silnici směrovku na Puketi. Letmý pohled do knižního průvodce nás navnadil. Zatím míříme k malému Kauri okruhu. Této keši jsem se trochu lekl. Kačenka si udělala legraci a navedla mě, ať se do těch větví podívám pořádně Surprised.

Díky za keš.

Out for a bit of a drive this morning to collect a few caches. Liked the cache container for this one. Thanks.
Unfortunately we don't have time to do the walk today.

I am having a drive around near Kerikeri today picking up the odd cache. I thought of doing the walk but just across the stile there was a lake that I would have had to walk through. Seeing that I didn't bring my gummies with me I decided to leave the walk and the 4 cache for another day

Cheers for the cache.

Easily found the cache but it took a loooooong time to extract it from it's hidey hole. This was a manifestation of a long held phobia of mine and I just couldn't bring myself to touch the cache container. Finally retrieved with some conveniently located sticks. TFTC and adrenalin rush.

31-Jan-16
I was up in Whangarei for the long weekend and today joined up with tikitour and PageHeart for an all day road trip around Russell, Waitangi, Kerikeri and the outskirts of Puketi Forest. It was a great day out with great company, lots of caches found and pleasingly not a single DNF! We mostly signed the logs with some variation of TPV for our caching names.

Towards the end of the day we drove around the back roads by Puketi Forest, finding all the caches around here. All caches were nice quick park and grabs. Would have been nice to do this walk, but it was late in the day and we would have had to negotiate the large crowd of bovines that had gathered around us to see what we were doing! Particularly liked this one - favourite point added! TFTC!

Out for a days geocaching road trip with mr tikitour, Vistra and Pageheart. travelling around the mid north and into Puketi forest. What a great day, weather was good, great company , lunch on a deck overlooking the beautiful Tapeka point and not a DNF today.....we signed the log in variations of TPV to save space and time.

After visiting the forest we toured around to pick up all the new caches .We were keen to do the walk but a huge crowd of cows were in the field with a couple of bulls so we weren't too keen on negotiating them...maybe next time if the field is clear. TFTC

31-Jan-16
So today saw a geocaching adventure with Vistra, Tikitour and myself. Our adventurer started early in the morning and saw us heading for a bunch of caches both new and old in Russel and Puketi Forest and surrounding back-roads. In total we spent over 14 hours on the road and out caching visiting places that we would never have gone without caching,
Logs were signed with initials VTP or a variation of the letters to save time and space.

LOVED this cache! Fav from me! Will be back another day to do the walk. Also the cows looked very interested in what we were up too!

Wow!! This one was great. I'll have to show this to the kids. Gave it a favourite point Smile A great cache trail leading to another amazing place - Puketi Forest. Lots of fantastic trees along this Kauri walk. Make sure you have time to do it when you head out this way. Thanks Skaga for the cache Smile
