Very easy find to conclude my tour of Ballsdale

04-Aug-24
Since this cache placement the Hotel has reopened. We often meet friends here on the weekend and enjoy lunch and live music. With a bit of spare time before lunch at the pub we stopped to find and sign this cache. Thanks Bingley3683 for an enjoyable cache.

31-Mar-24
Found it! Lovely to see a recreation park associated with such a minor country town. Great pub, the tennis courts may need a little attention!Cache in good condition. Thanks.

03-Mar-24
Today we had a yummy lunch with family at the local pub and then found a couple caches before heading home. Quick find here and in good condition. TFTC

29-Oct-23
Yes, these tennis courts havent seen a tennis ball for a long long time, but we managed to secure the cache and move onto the next one. TFTC.

15-Oct-23
Headed over to this one still with sketchy phone service, and after checking the seven other GZs that the stupid phone kept pointing at, dad finally found the actual GZ and signed our lives away, meanwhile the Queen got sick of the phone playing funny buggers and went back to the big soccer mum car.

22-Jul-23
Found this one after deciding Balldale Pub was the spot for lunch and this was on the way so we popped in for a quick find.

16-Jul-23
Out with Geowife and Geodogs exploring the area. The Sunshine is beautiful. No balls here today. All good here. Now onto the next one for the day. TFTC

21-Jun-23
I don’t think anyone has played ball here in a very long time.
Keen to get some L plate hours up we came for a back roads drive today. Cache was easily spotted by the teen who was 10 steps ahead. The log was dry but cache was quite mouldy smelling and wet inside.

There was a lady detecting on the main oval, not sure what she’d find out there unless a lost piece of jewellery?!

14-Apr-23
A quick find on my last day in thw Rutherglen area before heading home to QLD. I don't think I could paly on the near by court. TFTC.

What a mega weekend, in more ways than 1, we were out & about with our caching buddies, the Suscoe Duo. We enjoyed reading the cache notes and soon made a quick cache find.

Thanks to Bingley3683 for adding this cache to the gameboard.

Suscoe was out and about with Phetlern today enjoying the caches in the Rutherglen area and a littlen further afield.
It was a rainy night but the day had moments that were dry and at times continued the raindrops.
Some impressive cloud formations were seem as the day progressed.
Thanks to Bingley3683 for this hide. There was a bit of preparation happening in the nearby building, looks like music and community fun coming up today.

It all started with the computer. Had he known what was to follow, he would have never logged on that day. But the truth was there was no way to know what was about to happen. So Dave pressed the start button, the computer booted up, the screen came alive, and everything Dave knew to be true no longer was.
The day had begun on a bright note. The sun finally peeked through the rain for the first time in a week, and the birds were singing in its warmth. There was no way to anticipate what was about to happen. It was a worst-case scenario and there was no way out of it.
The amber droplet hung from the branch, reaching fullness and ready to drop. It waited. While many of the other droplets were satisfied to form as big as they could and release, this droplet had other plans. It wanted to be part of history. It wanted to be remembered long after all the other droplets had dissolved into history. So it waited for the perfect specimen to fly by to trap and capture that it hoped would eventually be discovered hundreds of years in the future.

Found and signed AB&G for Sui_001, Darksidedan, Rapidlywild and FurfacesLL as part of the Rutherglen Invasion Group. Thanks for the cache and the Adventure.

11-Mar-23
We planned to get down to Rutherglen to try and collect all the caches in the area before the mega so we could relax a little more as Mega’s always seem to be a little hectic. With the Canberra day long weekend on the horizon a plan was hatched, and accommodation was found. Our attack group ended up consisting of Rapidlywild, DARKSIDEDAN, Sui_001 and only half of the FurfacesLL team as the other member is broken, seems we are taking turns. We ended up collecting all the trails we had intended to do and many others in varying shapes and sizes and types.

After finishing up the Brolga Bill's Bike Trail (BBBT), the Brolga Bill's Puzzles (BBP) and the Rutherglen Beginner Challenges with The Drovers, Geoturtle37 & Papi4506 we went our own ways. We spent the rest of the day driving around collecting everything and anything we came across. All caches this afternoon were signed AB+G's (Adventure Boys and Girls) This team consisted of DSD, Sui_001, Rapidlywild and myself. A very enjoyable and successful afternoon of caching.

Thanks for the hide Bingley3683

11-Mar-23
Plans were put in place for a Rutherglen attack over the Canberra day long weekend with the FurfacesLL, DSD and Sui. We spent 4 days away from home and collected a number of caches of various varieties.

After attacking the Brolga Bill's Bike Trail (BBBT), the Brolga Bill's Puzzles (BBP) and the Rutherglen Beginner Challenges with The Drovers, Geoturtle37 & Papi4506, we split and went our own ways. We spent the rest of the day driving around collecting the Ladders series, trads, multis, virtuals and basically anything that came in our path. It was an enjoyable day caching around Rutherglen. This afternoons caches were all signed as AB+G/AB&G (Adventure Boys and Girls) representing myself, FurfacesLL, DSD and Sui_001.

Thanks for the cache placement Bingley3683

With the chance to catch up with an old caching mate we decided to grab a few caches out of town and why not head off to Balldale and clean up this short little series. Once here we wondered what people do here for a quid never the less the pub is open and hopefully stays open as it looks fresh and lively atm. We headed over to the rec reserve and had the place to ourselves and soon had the cache in hand, thanks Bingley3683 for the hide.

07-Mar-21
Found at 2.00pm, A sad, unloved rec reserve. a real pity that communities like this are dwindling. Looks like the pub has been refurbished and was doing a lively trade with lots of cars present and live music. Well done Balldale.
A good sized container.

So, on the annual christmas roadtrip, with caching and other hobbies on the agenda, so, no fixed destinations for each night, just wherever I end up late in the afternoon. Decided after finding this one, I'd setup way up the back and spend a quiet night in Balldale, eventually it got quiet, but it took a while.

Murray River December 2018. I headed away with Fitzy_1965 for a weekend caching towards the Murray River near Corowa. We targeted a few series and as many DNFs from previous trips as possible. We did of course generate even more this time, but overall had a great time despite a sharp thunderstorm on Sunday morning.

Thanks.

After camping at the Henty Showgrounds overnight, we had an early breakfast, packed up, and hit the road for our days caching. This was the next stop for the day. Nice to see a big cluster of caches around here. Quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache, then headed off to the next one.

Today we were heading south towards Corowa and picking up some caches along our route as well. All were quickly and easily found and there was no muggle activity as we travelled some very quiet country roads. Each log was signed and each container was replaced as found. The forecast wasn't supposed to be very flash today, so we hopped into the car and set of for Corowa and Bulldale. Turned out to be a very nice sunny day! We hit the Chiltern bakery late morning and continued north. Lots of new caches to grab on the way.

Well the sheep must be doing a very good job of maintenance because the oval was green and closely cropped - looked great!
Can't quite say the same for the tennis courts.
Took a little while to locate the cache today.
Thanks, Robmc.

#12421. After a busy start to the morning editing some stuff for Alexandra and solving the 3rd of some local puzzles it was time to hit the road and head for Chiltern, Rutherglen, Corowa and beyond. To my surprise we managed an unexpected FTF, a couple of 2TFs and a few 3TF's. Managed a nice total of 15 finds and 1 disappointing DNF. It was a lovely day to be touring the countryside.

It is hard to believe these facilities are not used any more. A very nicely kept oval and the building looks just fine. Certainly there would be no tennis though and the state of unused tennis courts is a forelorn look indeed. This one took us a long time to track down and unfortunately was very wet and the log is looking past its best. It seems the seal of the container is missing.

Thanks Bingley3683

Don't know how much sport is played at this faculty, wouldn't be much by the look of things, certainly no tennis given the condition of the weed crop growing on the court.
Maybe just a bit of footy and occasional hit of the cricket ball.
Least there were no one around today so was an easy find.

TNLN , TFTC , Cheers.

6152. Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1405. When you look about Balldale there can be seen an active community in years past. It is sad that country Australia has almost gone as people move to the larger populated areas. The way this is hidden it should last for some time to come. SL Tnx Bingley3683

We finally got the opportunity to get out to Balldale today to look for this one, and we were pleasantly surprised when we got to the Recreation Reserve for the search.
We parked under the trees near the club rooms and went to the windows to peer inside. It was great to see some of the history of sport in Balldale and the results of their labours. A typical little town and its sports complex. The tennis courts might need some love however.
We approached GZ carefully, looking where we were walking, and soon came across the cache. It seemed to be out in the open more than we thought it should be.
SL at 1pm. All good inside.
We replaced it a bit more protected and moved on.
The family really enjoyed the visit here and I think it deserves a favourite from us. TFTC Bingley3683.

After posting a DNF yesterday the CO kindly messaged me and expressed his concern for the welfare of his cache, he has had bad luck with caches in Balldale. I decided to come out again today and find the cache as his description didn't fit with the locations I spent time on.
Arriving at GZ I could see other vehicles had driven in, I thought that was odd being that Balldale was so quiet, me coming to find a Geocache could seriously be the most happening thing in town on this wet dreary day.
I looked and looked, I saw the trampled grass and though gee we really flattered it yesterday, I didn't think about the fact that someone else had been here today.
Anyway I looked and looked, nothing, I was disappointed once again. Thinking about what the CO had told me about his poor record with caches surviving in Balldale I decided to look a round for signs or parts of the cache. Nothing, hmm..so then I found myself half looking and half just checking the area out when I found, not too far away the cache container open and laying in the ground and the logbook damp but not soaked - it hadn't been there long.
I popped it back together the log book inside and added a path tag. And left it near GZ.
I had originally planned to log a bit later in the day and message the CO and tell him of my discovery.
Before I could I got an email to day he had been out and that it was hanging where he said it was... Well that's strange..I must have just missed him and why is he saying it's hanging up when I found it scattered? Comparing times I was there just after him, hmm was a muggle watching him? Was the fact that two cars in two days had parked and searched the same area too much for the good residents of sleepy Balldale to handle and they had to spoil the fun? I don't know but it's weird and I'm glad j don't have to go back again.
TFTC SL took nothing left a path tag TBV - I'll be annoyed if the path tag goes missing!

Hmmp no good here today, damn it really wanted this one for my grid.
Thanks any way Bingley3683

This one took more time than it should have. Got some photos of the apostle birds nearby hunting on the ground for food. Went and had another look after I put the camera back in the car and spotted the cache virtually straight away ... Amazing I didn't spot it before, just how it goes... TFTC

After being muggled out on our last attempt here, we arrived at Balldale Sports Ground and found it completely empty. Pleased to see that the bricklayer has finished the pillars at the entrance, although it appears that all is not quite finished yet. The find was tricky but we aced it in the end. Well, we now know where the youngsters of Balldale are early on this Saturday morning. We did not think to check the sporting fixtures for Balldale before we left home today! Muggles everywhere - and junior cricket match in progress at 9am, as well as a bricklayer attempting to build a new entranceway to the Reserve. Rather than compromise the hide, we will come back at another time. It seems we were foiled on two counts here today. We were hoping to catch up with mrs harrowang's cousin, who lives (sometimes) in this bustling metropolis, but it seems he is currently in Condobolin and not due home until Monday! Let us hope our next visit is more successful. LOL.

02-Feb-16
We were at Howlong doing some GPSing for a Landcare friend and we noticed the cache still unfounded so a detour on our way home was on the agenda. The sports ground would have been a hub on the weekend all year round. I think they still play cricket here. At GZ the search was on and just on dusk we we found the cache and signed the log at 8.30pm.
Thanks Bingley for the hide.
