Went for a walk to investigate the start of the Te Au track. Rather slippery going up and down the non forest section at the bottom (especially in gumboots). Looks rather lovely in the bush, and quite a steep trek to the top. Just grabbing the one cache today to keep the streak rolling along. Thanks tmann421 #1202

Today is a regular sort of day, as in I need a regular sized cache to fill in a blank box. Its been a while since I walked up this track and I had forgotten how deceptively steep it is. No problem finding the cache which is in good condition. Cheers and TFTC

26-May-24
Macfam41 and geo dog Southridge Laird of Kinlochaline found it while out walking the trail today. Boy, this track gets the heart rate up. Still, I'll deserve a beer after this walk. TFTC

Spider is still in charge and cache is in good order. TFTC

23-Dec-23
It's December, and to help me achieve one of my Geocaching goals I need to log 300+ caches this month, which means an average of ten a day. I started off well, but had a glitch in the middle which has left me behind my target. Today I was aiming for 30 finds (I got 28) by walking up here. The ascension to the ridgeline up the Te Au Track from Huia Street is about as steep as they come, so it was slow going. Finding a cache every few hundred metres provided a nice break in the slog. All the caches up this track were found exactly as expected, all safe and well.---Thanks to tmann421 for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge

**#19,131**No issues here, a quick jog up from the Huia St carpark in the old Jandals, I was tempted to try for one more but the GPS showed me a rapid rise in Elevation contours from here to the next so will leave it for next time!

#62 A nice reminder that larger caches still exist.Found on a day trip down to the west coast. TFTC

Found earlier today

We decided to call it here after finding this cache. Like I said a couple caches back, this is our first cache hike and we were mostly just wetting our feet to see what we were in for

Taking another look at the map compared to our location had us realizing we were in for a much longer trip than initially expected

Weather forgiving, we hope to come back tomorrow with extra water bottles, some lunch and some proper footwear

Thank you for creating this trackof caches, I hope I get to see the rest of them!

Phew! Nice to get under the canopy. Very warm day. Coordinates spot on, quick find. All good, onwards and upwards! Tftc!

Kids loved this one thanks

14-Nov-21
Great find and terrific to see extra log paper here. If the next adventurer could take one of these with them for further up with the next cache that would be very helpful! I’m afraid I added to its dampness .
Many thanks

06-Nov-21
Great effort into the theming of this cache! So the log book has been signed and the cache is nicely back in its spot all ready for the next geo-hunter. Thanks heaps for taking the time to set up this geocache. I really appreciate your efforts in doing so. I also took a spare log book just in case it's needed further along the trail. TFTC

Labour Day - the perfect time to do a power trail. My first in a very long time. I've already done the Parata Track from Tui Cres to the lookout (and the Memorial Seat), so today I was completing the loop by doing the climb from Huia St and the full ridge. It was a total of 20 caches - and by some miracle I managed to find every single one of them! It was a 10km walk with a total of 1000m of climbing, but it was a straight forward walk. Many of the caches were instant finds thanks to the accurate coordinates very detailed hints.

(3/20) The marvellous thing about this cache was the stash of spare logs to take further up the track. As suggested I took one with me, and used it for the Memorial Seat. (As it happens I could have used two). (Yes, I know, I should have brought my own supplies. I'm forgetful. Yesterday I forgot my pen.) This alone makes it worthy of a FP!

05-Jul-21
Decided to spent some time around Otaki and Waikanae picking up some caches. Finished the drive by ones and now time to stretch the legs on this loop walk. A good climb up and great views at the top. Managed 22 in total. Will need to return for the ones along the far ridge top.
Enjoyed the level of hides. Often took a few minutes but the hint was always specific enough to give me hope and continue looking.
Had to backtrack and widen my search but the hint got me there in the end.
Thanks tmann for the challenge and the smileys.

04-Jul-21
Had a bit of a search for this one as it seemed a bit further from the co-ords than expected, but all good in the end. Glad to be at the bottom after the steep bits! TFTC

(# 6499). A trip up the coast to grab some caches in Pukerua Bay and Waikanae. Decided to trudge up the Huia St uphill track to grab the caches then for a bit of an outing decided to complete the loop back down. No muggles at all until met up with various groups walking to the lookout. A quick find. Everything in order. Checked on The Sitting Rock and Huge Tree on the way up and they were both in position and in good order. Thanks for bringing me here.

05-Jan-21
Thanks for the hide and extra blank logs to replace.
I used two of them in the area.

04-Jan-21
That’s fun eek

26-Dec-20
Back down here visiting family and these have tempted me for too long. I thought I should duck up the hill and grab a few on the way. We'll see how far I get today.
Just into the bush and I see what beautiful forest this is already. I can't believe after living in Kapiti for so long this is the first time I have been up this track. I have always gone up the other one.
Was rewarded by a good sized cache with extra log sheets just in case any others need attention. I grabbed a few as I know I'm coming back this way to replace any unused.
Great idea.
Tftc

21-Sep-20
Out for a bit of a walk today.
The weather was a little overcast and drizzly when we started but cleared soon afterwards, and ended up being a very warm and sunny day. Lots of muggles on the track today despite the iffy weather and it being a Monday.
Glad to give the knees a bit of a rest here after all the down hill, but we're nearly back at the car now.
Cache was a quick find. We left a pet rock - a monkey, and took the TB
Mr rattll even spotted an old archived cache (Huia Reborn) not to far from GZ, so we took that out to save confusion.
Thanks for placing these caches here to add to an enjoyable days walking.

11-Feb-20
A cooler morning and a good day to have another walk in this beautiful area and look for some of the caches that I had left to find in this series. A quick find here, all in good order after recent maintenance. I picked up one of the replacement logsheets as requested and it did come in handy further up the track. Dropped off a cute zebra trackable. TFTC

21-Dec-19
This was a quick found, too.

01-Dec-19
Cache dried out and now in a plastic outer bag with log in a plastic jar inside main container.

I have left 20 waterproof logs in little plastic bags and ask visitors to take one if they are going further up to use on any caches that need their log replaced.

26-Nov-19
This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

25-Nov-19
Found on the way to a rock climbing spot in hemi matenga.

Cache was pretty soaked through. Log was very wet and tearing. Couldn't write in it so added a small scrap of paper to the cache.

I had passed this site in 2016 but my GPSr was producing crazy readings so, not knowing were to stop and search, I didn't stop and search. Today, I had no such difficulty and I very quickly figured out where the cache was hiding. I was travelling light and didn't have any waterproof paper and spare plastic bags as I normally would. I used a bit of note paper to record proof of my visit but it is of low quality and won't last.

13-Jun-19
Found with zayn2016. GPS was a bit off so had to search a few places. There was about 1cm of water in the container so dried as best I could. Log sheet all wet so signed our names on some cardboard and returned to the same spot. TFTC

13-Jun-19
Needs new log sheet and bag, maybe a better water proofed container as well

13-Apr-19
Find #3091. Having completed a return hike of Brights Ridge in Paraparaumu, I had time to come to Hemi Matenga, complete the ridge loop and find the last few caches placed since I last did this.
I'm claiming the find but couldn't sign the logbook. As previously noted, it is mush! TFTC

03-Mar-19
As per earlier comment log book is very wet... might be time to visit and maintain. TFTC

17-Feb-19
One of 13 caches located today on a walk with the geohound up the Hemi Matenga Reserve track. Yes, quite steep a lot of the way – a good workout overall! Found this one reasonably quickly. Didn’t manage to sign the logbook as it’s now a sodden mess! I took a photo of the cache instead. It can be produced if necessary. #2321. TFTC.

15-Feb-19
The track goes into the wood and it is getting a little bit steeper. The cache was all wet.

Luckily didn't notice the lid until returning the cache to its home!

Quick and easy find. Found with TwigNZ. Signed the log as "T & T" Thanks for the cache

17-Feb-18
I had been eyeing a few trails to do on the weekends I have my son and decided to go hard out today to see how many caches we could do in and around the Hemi Matenga Reserven an afternoon. We were lucky enough to be blessed with reasonable weather, when the forecast had been for showers, so that definitely helped us to get a great result.
I apologise in advance for the generic log, but there was no way I would have been able to write up each Cache as I went along, so am logging them now in bulk (sort of)

This was near the start of the trail, and at this point we still didn't know how much climbing we were in for today! The find was relatively straight forward, but my son didn't much like the guardian!

Signed the log for myself and my son (Thatweirdguy04).

Thanks for the Cache

This took longer than expected. Found after a little searching as GPS wouldn’t settle. Nice work on top . TFTC

I am heading home after three weeks with the relatives, a pretty awesome christmas break. I have a whole day to get to the ferry from Palmerston North, so thought I would stop off and grab a Waikanae letterbox cache, and ended up walking the whole Hemi Matenga.
A spider home had been built over the cache hide. I hadto break half of it to get to the cache. Sorry, spider Sad. Like the container.

02-Sep-17
A quick find before the steep stuff really started. Loved the container - gets a FP from us.

Left "Dvixen's International Year of Astronomy" TB to contempltae the stars through the forest canopy.

Now that I read the title again in retrospect it explains why the cache was 'guarded' as it was. At the time I did not have the title in mind and I was a little taken aback by what I found and some tentative poking was required before going further! Nice collection of stuff in here making for a good find. TFTC.

I saw the name and thought maybe I should pass this one.... when I found it I almost had a heart attack... thanks for the adrenaline boost!!!

#3399. The family needed the car this morning and by the time I had it available at 1.30pm, a trip to Waikanae was starting to look a bit uncertain. However the weather was fine and sunny for once and so I headed up north arriving by the Hemi Matenga Reserve at 2.50pm. By the time I got back to the car at 8.30 pm I had managed to locate all 17 caches searched for today, walked 15,000 steps and done some serious hill climbing. Certainly a lovely bit of forest up here with its mature tawa and kohekohe and few big rimu and matai. The cache find here was nice and quick. Soon had the cache in hand but had to watch the resident arachnid for a few seconds before I felt comfortable opening up the container. Signed the log and replaced as found. Then it was off and upward.

I was glad for the chance for a bit of a breather by the time I reached this one.
The cache was quickly found - thanks very much.

Found on tramping club Sunday trip with 9 others to help us. We made it a "round trip" starting at the Huia Street entrance, walking through the leafy streets to Tui Street, through the Kohekohe Walk, over the Te Au Route, continuing north as far as the "Homer Tree" before returning and dropping down to the cars. An easy walk on a good track, the weather was perfect and the views were stupendous. TFTC

Found and took 5 travel bugs, very unexpected! (they weren't logged as being here). I'll be in Ohakune in a few days so up north they go Smile Thanks for the cache!

A great place for our racing trackables to start their journey. May the bet TB win.

01-Jul-16
Wandering Dragons, John the Strong and I decided to take a day out to go grab these caches.. We entered from the Huia Street entrance and glad we did. Very steep going up, but once we finished panting at the top the rest was much easier. All caches easily found and the GeoHounds loved the walk. Pity there were only two real spots for views, but the forest walk in itself was fantastic if not a bit muddy in some spots. Trailed off on the link path at the top, but because the wife had instructed me to be home by 5pm, we didn;t have time to finish all the ones along the third leg. Thanks for the caches, trail and walk. Feeling pretty good after the walk, and a tad bit stiff from the exercise.

01-Jul-16
The Wandering Dragons, Crystal Fairy and myself headed off today for a trek around Hemi Matenga Reserve. Just entered bush and starting to climb upwards. Thanks for the cache.

Cache # 3,233 - Went for a nice long walk with Crystal Fairy and John the Strong and two of our dogs today, on a very long planned trip around Hemi Matenga. First one of the day for me, as I left the two closer to the road for another day (or two). TNLNSL. TFTC and the series.

Ninalila and I decided to go for a walk in the bush not far from the place where we stay.
It w as a really nice discovery, great walk and beautiful view when we reached to lookout.
We had the chance to hear the deers roar Smile
The caches were well maintained and easy to find thanks to the really good hints Smile
We finished the walk at night but we found all the one we searched !

We logged with our team name : Lekiprokos

Thank you to the owner for the caches

21-Mar-16
fefe.adrien and I went into the bush to walk until the lookout. The view was very nice ! We could see the mountains of the South Island, then the sunset on Kapiti Island... Moreover we eard the roar of some deers !!
Finally we decided to make all the loop track, it took 4h including the research of boxes.

This serie is fun and pleasant, hints are very precise !! Many thanks because it helped a lot when satellite reception was not so good. Highly recommend this geocache serie ! Wink

We found all the boxes and we signed on logbooks with our team nickname : Lekiprokos Cool

sorry for the copy and paste logs, it was a bit of a walk up the hill to stunning views, Kaleb was shattered by now and the walking up the hill was not something he wanted to do, so managed to get the ones we did with the plan of coming back to grab the rest this week if weather is good as my sister is keen on the walk, thanks for taking the time to place the caches and the different types have been very welcomed.

11-Mar-16

Nearly there! -completed the Hemi Matenga cache trail, having done most of them last year. Up Parata Track, along the top and down to Huia Street. A good day for a walk!

26-Feb-16
Came for a walk around the loop this afternoon, started at Tui Cresc and ended at Huia St. I have been up here quite a number of times in the past and had found all the caches that had been placed up until recently. This was the sixth of the seven new ones. A quick find - on a whim I decided to stop and check an item that matched the hint despite the GPSr telling me that the cache was about 20 metres further on. The cache was right there. Signed log, TFTC.

I was with the CO when he placed this cache. Quite a few logged founds so logging mine now.

Thoroughly enjoyed the trek up along the ridge.

Two years ago I found caches on this track, and also ones up the other end on Ridgeline Track. I've been intending to do the six along the top on Te Au Route Track. Some time ago I had plans to do these today, and it was good to see some new caches published last week. Entered from Tui Crescent, and walked down to Huia Street. I found the steep downhill section easier on my legs this time. I had parked my bike at Huia Street entrance - so biked back to Tui Street entrance. Straightforward find. Thanks tmann421 for the cache.

Lured back to Hemi Matenga by the promise of some recently laid caches.
Always a great place to be visiting. Very beautiful and cooling on a hot summer's day.
A straightforward find on this one. All in order; log signed, cache then safely re-hidden.

#7510. {FTF} at 09:04. A great day to return to Waikanae to walk up to the Hemi Matenga Memorial Park. Good views from just before entering the bush. Came across a couple of walkers on the tracks. But GZ was all quiet on arrival. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.
